Just started Ortho-K contacts for my child to slow progression of myopia. Dr. West and her staff were amazing. We discussed a number of myopia control options with Dr. West and settled on Ortho-K. Everything was explained very clearly and her staff took as much time as was needed to make sure my child could safely and confidently insert and remove the contacts. If your child is nearsighted or at risk of becoming nearsighted because of family history and/or lifestyle it's totally worth it to see the options that exist slow or prevent the progression. read more

After 3 1/2 months had to get glasses and a better prescription somewhere else. Negotiated a refund for contacts exam.

Had an appointment a couple of weeks ago, but couldn't make it on time. Was gonna be 10 minutes late, so I called and asked if I could still come. They said no and that I had to reschedule. I show up for the rescheduled appointment and sit in the lobby for 15 minutes after check-in before I'm seen by the initial examiner who prepares you for the ophthalmologist. They do the whole eye scan/puff of air thing then take me to the room to wait for the ophthalmologist. I've now been here 53 minutes and the ophthalmologist finally walks in (after an additional longer than it should be wait) and takes about five minutes tops for the eye exam. So, two big gripes here. First, if a patient is going to be sitting around for 15 minutes anyways, which is extremely common for doctor visits, why did I have to reschedule for being 10 minutes behind. Secondly, and most obviously is the fact that all of the interactions totaled about 15 minutes (including check-in/out), but the total time I was there was an hour and eight minutes, which is just unacceptable. Hopefully it just so happened to be a one off situation. Either way a patients time should be better respected than what I experienced. read more

Very disappointing experience here. I feel as though egregious "claims " were made just to make extra money off me and my medical and vision insurance companies, and I was given completely unwearable glasses that they won't fix. I have since gone to another provider, paid fully out of pocket for exam and new frames/lenses, and I am completely happy with them. They do not make me uneasy on my feet and nauseous like the ones I got from Texas Family Eyecare. I have never posted a negative review about a provider of any kind before so this terrible experience speaks volumes. read more

I am reading some of the reviews on here and I find them appalling and clearly uninformed. Dr. West is the most caring and honest provider I know. She is extremely knowledgeable and truly cares for her patients. She has seen my entire family for 15 years. We even drive back from Belton to see her. I am a professional in the healthcare business (specifically compliance, coding and auditing). I've seen some things in the reviews which are clearly false and spreading incorrect information. 1. Unfortunately as a provider Dr. West nor her staff can address any issue on any public platform. This would be a HIPAA violation. 2. Dr. West does not make the rules for what is proper coding and diagnosis. She fully recognizes there are many clinics who choose to call everything wellness vision and not properly bill for the medical conditions. That is fraud. When you go to your PCP for your annual wellness visit and have an issue they will treat your issue and you are no longer getting a simple annual wellness visit. Many practices have you sign a document that says you understand this. For vision it's the same thing. Your vision insurance is for wellness vision. You come in with blurry vision and you have self diagnosed that you need new glasses. Until Dr. West does her exam and asks you all the questions she can't determine that your blurry vision is not just because you need new glasses. You might have dry eyes, cataracts, glaucoma, or God forbid signs of diabetes, macular degeneration, a tumor and on and on. The rules of coding and compliance dictate that her medical decision making and determination of your diagnosis drive the coding. Just like your PCP addressing a complaint your optometrist is addressing the complaint which happens to be a medical condition. 4. Dr. West just like every other office on the planet sometimes has to hire and train new staff. She makes every effort to have competent, friendly, high quality staff. If you don't know how hard that is try hiring some people to do work for you. 5. Dr. West is the only physician I know who makes every effort to address concerns with patients directly when she is made aware of them. She also is VERY aware of and concerned with being on time. Unfortunately as with every practice on the planet things happen sometimes and they run late. 6. Contact lens wearers are thoroughly trained until they indicate they are comfortable. Having long fingernails can hinder a new users ability to effectively get contacts in and out. Being afraid to touch your will as well. The staff will ask if you would like to make adjustments that make it easier but the bottom line is the patient is responsible for owning their care and decisions. If you say you are comfortable then own it. 15 years of AWESOME care, customer service, growth, follows the rules and does her absolute best to make sure she's doing everything she can properly so she stays in business for a really long time! read more

I visited Dr. West's office today because I took my 5 year old for a routine check up for the first time. It could not have gone better! Her staff is very friendly and warm. They made my me and my son feel comfortable. I felt like they truly cared for us. The office itself is clean, modern and has a large selection of frames to try on. My dad is a patient here & I came along with him when he got his new glasses. the lady in the front or office manger is the RUDEST person I've ever came across. Didn't say hello, no eye contact, didn't acknowledge anything my dad was saying. Another nice lady helped us, but even when we left she didn't even say bye either. She had this entitled problematic attitude on her. Someone like that shouldn't be an office manager. Other than that Dr. West is AMAZING! I know a thing or two about a thing or two, but I've been wearing glass for 4 decades so I'd like to think I really know glasses. I've been seeing Dr West since she was at Lakeline. She's great, has been proactive when she's seen something that concerned her and gets second opinions when needed. Jenny and Debbie are always friendly and so helpful, as well as the interns that are sometimes there. They both have helped me pick frames and they've always been perfect. My husband and I started seeing Dr West when she was near TSO at Lakeline, I think it was late 2005. She is absolutely amazing! My husband has had bad vision all his life so he has had more than a couple eye doctors, he also had several doctors tell him he shouldn't even wear contacts. My husband races mountain bikes so glasses aren't really a great option for his lifestyle. Dr. West not only prescribed him contacts, she got him to 20/20 with them which our former doctors could not. I started wearing contacts with her and have fairly bad allergies plus pretty sensitive eyes. She would not give up and trying until we got some I could wear. I think it was a two month process but she just kept trying. She knew I also mountain biked and that contacts would work better. It helps her husband and her are very active (even mountain bikers), she could relate to our needs and preferences with vision correction. On top of an awesome doctor, she has a great staff. They are friendly and remember the patients. And since I am a bit scatterbrained and forget to order my refill on contacts until I all but run out, they always try to find me samples to get me through. I can't say enough good things about her office, care and staff! read more

It was time for new glasses and I knew my prescription needed to be updated, so I made an appointment here and am glad I did. For starters this location is extremely convenient for me being only ten minutes away from my house. The inside is warm and clean, and the employees are welcoming. They have a small waiting area, but used the space wisely by making a quarter of it carpeted with numerous toys for kiddos. The front desk assistant had sent me all the forms ahead of time which made checking in a breeze. All she needed was my license and insurance card to make copies, and the doctors assistant came to get me 5 minutes later. I hate to say I don't remember the assistant's name, but she was so sweet and while doing the puff of air test we all hate, kept offering words of encouragement and saying it was almost over. She noticed the screws on my frames were loose too, so she took them back during my actual exam and fixed them for me free of charge. It's always the little things like that which make places stand out to me. Dr West is very nice and professional. Eye exams are probably my favorite doctor visits because they take no time at all. Once I was done, Dr. West led me back to the front area where another kind assistant helped me look at frames. Prior to going in I had found a pair I loved on Warby Parker, but I have VSP and they only reimburse me a small amount for those so I figured it wouldn't hurt to look. She was very patient, even showed me a box of frames that just came in, and helped me find quite a few pairs I liked. In the end though I decided to go ahead and order the ones from Warby without putting a claim in to my insurance. Worse case scenario, if I hate them I can always come back here and get different frames in which VSP will cover almost completely. My copay was only $10 too which was great. If glasses aren't your deal, they have plenty of contact choices as well including the colors of the rainbow. Seriously, the woman checking out in front of me was given 5 different contact shades to sample of the color green alone! They take their time here to really work with you and make sure when you leave, that you have exactly what you were looking for. I highly recommend checking them out. read more

Dr West is so personable and thorough! Local and family business, well run, clean, the staff is nice and honest. I have seen Dr. West for several years now, and she is great! I have terrible eyes, and have been in glasses and seeing eye doctors for 20 years now. Dr. West is thorough but prompt, practical, and open to questions. She really seems to have a passion for what she does, and seems to enjoy interacting with people. Her staff is helpful. I can't really comment on the cost. I used to have better insurance coverage, but with the change in my coverage recently vision care got cut. So I think it felt like a lot, but best I can tell the prices are reasonable. read more

Moving to Leander I was upset that I had to change my optometrist but I must say I am very impressed with this place. Appointments - They made appointments for my husband, son and I around the same time which was wonderful. The first thing that impressed me was the fact they have extended hours one day a week to allow those with kids to come in after school or adults after work. During the week, they do have long enough hours (530) so you can be fit in on those days as well, the extended day just ensures they can serve more clients. Staff - The staff is so friendly and easy to talk with. They explain your benefits to make sure you know how much things will cost both with glasses and with your exam. The optometrist was friendly and made sure all my concerns were addressed. Picking out glasses - I hate trying to pick out glasses but the person narrowed my focus by asking me questions and by seeing what I was wearing she picked out some pairs for me to try on. She gave me advice and let me know what would happen to the look of the glasses when my lens was put in (I have a thick lens). I felt like I had my own personal stylist it was wonderful! *Helpful driving tip - you may go past them since it is hard to see their sign. They are in office buildings that look like a set of homes. Just drive slower when you come near that area. read more

We've been going to Dr. West at Texas Family Eye Care since we moved here and I can honestly say, they are excellent! I have a rather rare corneal deformity (some of my co-workers say that I have a rare mental deformity too but we won't go there on this review) that makes it impossible for me to get LASIK or wear contacts and Dr. West not only knew about it but has also made sure to carefully monitor what's going on with it on my annual check ups. Considering they're in Leander, there's an amazing selection of frames and they always seem to have that funky set that I'm looking for and usually on sale (and who doesn't love a sale???)! I love Dr. West, she's got a great sense of humor - while never stopping being a professional - and anyone who names their child Ryatt (...quiet Ryatt!) Easton West (get it?) is A-OK in my book! I also can't say enough about her front office staff who, despite managing a very busy practice, really get to know their patients and go that extra country mile for excellent service! read more

Went in for my yearly exam recently, and Dr. West said my prescription had changed, so I ordered new lenses for my existing frames. New lenses arrived and were worse than my existing prescription- blurred distance vision, so Dr. West gave me a brief partial exam again, said her first prescription was too strong, and another pair of lenses were ordered with the revised prescription. They arrived and had the same problem, worse than my existing prescription. At this point instead of trying to get it right, Dr. West had one of her team tell me there was nothing more they could do and gave me a partial refund for the deposit I had put on the new lenses. Money for the incorrect exam and prescription was not refunded. Very disappointed in Texas Family Eyecare, and very unprofessional of Dr. West. read more

I went here because of the online reviews and they are spot on. I brought my kids in for their annual eye exam and a new pair of glasses. The kids loved it here. I loved the very friendly and professional staff. The doctors took the time to answer all the questions my kids had. Not sure how anyone can give this place and its staff less than 5 stars. Dr. Yonker is great! In my 10 years of getting exams I've never been so informed! He gave me a huge selection of contacts to choose from. He also told me how certain lenses work better than others. They gave me a great deal on a set of Costa glasses. I've definitely found my go to place for exams and glasses. The ladies in the front were very helpful, everything went smoothly and rather quick. They are nice, but I feel I was ripped off. Still in my trial pair from October, at which time I owed $130. I call to ask why it's now $280. 1st I was told my insurance didn't pay, then it was because I the pair I have was more than the 1st trial. Not sure if I was the first patient but I did not have a wait. They have a good selection of frames but I would have liked to see a few more designer names. However I did end up getting some that I am happy with. I mainly went there for contacts and just my annual eye exam. I have stopped seeing multiple doctors over poor staffing, but Dr. West has a great team! I also recently went through LASIK surgery, and Dr. West was amazing. She talks you through everything, and does all the pre-op exams and follow ups; which made me feel very comfortable, having my doctor in the know on my surgery and progression. My first experience with Dr. West but not my first experience with glasses. Been seeing eye doctors for decades. The staff was both friendly and professional. Dr. West, and everyone involved, took time to understand my needs and lifestyle. Dr. West took the time to discuss all my needs and concerns without rushing me or dismissing my questions. She did a very thorough examination. Laid to rest some of my concerns about my eye health. I cannot honestly remember having a better experience. The only, very minor, negative was that it took a bit longer to get my glasses back from the lab than I expected. Not sure if that is normal or just a odd occurrence in my case. No points off for that. Glasses seem to be exactly what I needed and they had just the type of frame I was looking for. read more

Dr. West and her team are amazing! Like the majority of contact lens wearers, I normally go in once a year, do a check up, buy more contacts and move along. It started this way with Dr. West and since I am getting a few years older, I am starting to have the "close vision" problem. Dr. West is great about trying out one type of contact prescription, then tweaking if that's not the best fit. I am not used to that-I am used to the eye doctor telling me what I should have and that's that. So in the midst of trying out new contacts and getting a feel for the perfect prescription, I develop a pretty bad eye infection. I was immediately seen by Dr. West as soon as I called and ended up going into the office twice a week for a few weeks to treat this eye. I am now on a first name basis with the front office staff. They are incredibly friendly and helpful and Dr. West is very knowledgeable and thorough. But the other great news is that there is not usually a wait - they pretty much stay on the appt times, excluding any emergencies that can happen. My son has special needs and a lot of anxiety about going to doctor appointments. He was having a meltdown and really overwhelmed as we tried to get him through the eye exams, and Dr. West came in and was SO good with him. Within a couple minutes his mood totally changed and he was cooperating like a champ! She has a way with kids that is so rare. I went there to get fitted for contacts & glasses. At first it seemed friendly, but there was a level of customer service missing. Even though they asked all the questions about my use and expectations for contacts and glasses,it seemed like they weren't listening. The process of being fitted for glasses & having lenses marked was odd, standing at the checkout and having the lenses marked for prescription location was just weird. So it was no shock that it was marked incorrectly. I returned them, and was told they could only change the lens one time- "we aren't Lenscrafter's". Odd, cause long ago when I have used Lenscrafter's the prescription was either right from the start or they adjusted it without insulting me. After a month of trying to wear the progressive lenses, they told me I am far sighted and that makes it very difficult to use progressives. It would have been nice to know that before I selected that lens. My cost, after insurance, was $480 for glasses that I probably will never wear. It just wasn't a good experience for me and I will not go back there. read more
