While the DNA confirmed he's a Maltese, he has curly hair (not typical for the breed), weighs 15 lbs, and suffers from multiple health issues, severe anxiety, back and leg problems--likely due to inbreeding per our veterinarian. Claudia is clearly passionate about her dogs, but she admitted that our dog's parents were purchased from another breeder, which led us to discover they were related. Although Claudia did not intentionally breed for these issues, it's a reminder to be cautious when choosing a breeder. At $2500, we did not expect him to be an inbred puppy. Claudia may not have known about the inbreeding, but we urge potential buyers to carefully consider the breeding practices before purchasing as the genetic health problems have been frustrating.

After the deposit was sent, the breeder changed those terms. When I was no longer comfortable proceeding and requested my deposit back, she refused to refund it, which ultimately led me to file a dispute with my credit card. Additionally, there were several inconsistencies and concerns regarding kitten care. Her website states that kittens are kept until 12-14 weeks for their "mental health," yet kittens are actually released at 10 weeks. She also does not perform fecal testing on the kittens or provide microchipping. Given the price being charged, it did not feel like the money was going toward comprehensive health care or best practices for the kittens. Based on my experience, I would strongly advise potential buyers to be very cautious, get everything in writing, and use your credit card. For anyone looking for an ethical and responsible Ragdoll breeder, I highly recommend Cajun Ragdolls in Houston. I've had an amazing experience with them.
