Ambience: very busy place on a Saturday evening. Even while busy, it has a southern feel to it. Service: excellent customer service. Friendly server. Quality: Good food. Great drinks. Ordered the cheese fries, Caesar salad, steak kabob for food. For drinks, ordered house margarita (Kenny's cooler) and Michelob Ultra. Rolls with cinnamon butter is amazing! Price: Decent

I had been to Texas Roadhouse several times in the past 20 years while in town visiting my family. This time I went with one of my best friends from high school. We started off with the Cactus Blossom. Pretty tasty but a little more grease than I prefered. But that didn't stop me from eating it lol. My friend and I had not seen each other in a year so we had a lot of catching up to do. It took us probably 30 to 40 minutes to place our dinner order. Our server kept checking back with us and finally asked us to let her know when we were ready to order because we couldn't stop talking long enough to look at the menu;) I ordered the 6 oz steak with a baked sweet potato with brown sugar and butter and a side salad. This was suggested by my friend and it was delicious. I ordered my steak medium and it was cooked and seasoned perfectly! Oh and I can't forget the rolls with honey butter.....yummy! I ordered the rolls and butter for our Thanksgiving dinner last year and they were a big hit with the family. It was a fundraiser for my great niece. It was nice to know that this franchise was willing to help the local children raise money for a school project! This spot was a little pricey but worth it!

Well done steak and extra butter on potato.

We were really looking forward to a nice dinner out together, but unfortunately, our experience here was very disappointing. We were at the restaurant for two hours and still hadn't been able to order dinner. We started in the dining area, but our server, Amanda, wasn't very friendly or attentive, so we decided to move to the bar. The bartender was incredibly kind and doing her best, but she seemed overwhelmed by how busy it was. With some extra support--like a barback--she could have provided an even better experience. At that point, though, after waiting so long, we were just ready to grab something quick and head out. Sadly, we won't be returning, and I wouldn't recommend this spot to others based on our visit.

This is barbecue that announces itself honestly. No gimmicks, no pretension--just meat treated with respect. We started off with the Texas Sausage Sampler which includes 3 Sausages. Jalapeno Cheddar, Hickory Smoke and Original Old Fashioned. Served with Carolina Gold Sauce, Mustard and Horseradish. The sauce is outstanding. Smoking J's Rib House in Ashland, Kentucky, is the kind of place that reminds you why barbecue isn't just food--it's culture, patience, and pride rendered in smoke and fire. The ribs are the undisputed star. Thick-cut, generously portioned, and lacquered with a bark that balances sweetness, smoke, and spice, they arrive with that elusive perfection every pitmaster chases. The meat pulls cleanly from the bone without collapsing into mush, proof of disciplined temperature control and timing. Each bite delivers layers: smoke up front, pork richness at the core, and a restrained tang from the sauce that enhances rather than smothers. Brisket lovers will find plenty to admire. The slices boast a pronounced smoke ring and a pepper-forward crust, with fat rendered to a buttery softness that melts on the tongue. It's assertive, confident barbecue--unapologetically Southern, yet precise enough to impress even seasoned purists. The sides refuse to play second fiddle. Mac and cheese was amazing, creamy with a baked top that adds texture, while the baked beans carry a subtle smokiness that echoes the pit rather than competing with it. Coleslaw provides a crisp, cooling contrast, cutting through the richness exactly as it should. What truly elevates Smoking J's, though, is its sense of place. This isn't barbecue chasing trends or Instagram aesthetics. It's barbecue rooted in community--food that feels earned, familiar, and deeply satisfying. The atmosphere is unpretentious and welcoming, the kind where regulars are greeted like family and newcomers are quickly converted. Smoking J's Rib House doesn't just serve great barbecue--it reinforces why Ashland deserves a seat at the table in Kentucky's smokehouse conversation. It's a destination for locals, a worthy stop for travelers, and a reminder that when barbecue is done right, it doesn't need to shout. The smoke speaks for itself.

I'm not interested in a free meal or anything of that nature. We will not be returning to Outback again. I do think it's the right thing to do, though, for others to know what a poorly ran location this is. People work too hard for their money to go spend it at a restaurant that can't treat customers like they matter. My husband and I came to this location for NYE dinner. The last dinner we had in November was sub-par, but we had a gift card I'd received and thought we'd try it again- poor choice! Walking in, I noticed trash scattered about the outside. It takes 10 minutes for a staff member to come out and pick up trash. We were seated in the bar area; the bartender ended up being our server. I was immediately put off by the fact that she had waist-length hair that wasn't tied up. I ordered the margarita flight. I don't typically order alcoholic drinks, but it was NYE, so I thought I'd splurge. All four drinks were so, so sweet, I couldn't drink them. We ordered and was waiting for our food when a couple walked in carry a dog and went to sit at the bar. Mind you, it wasn't a service dog (no vest or indicator that it was a service dog), it was a small lap dog. Our entrees arrived, and the continued disappoint of this experience continued. We each ordered a side salad with sweet tomato dressing. We both love the sweet tomato dressing and is one of the main reasons we've chosen Outback in the past. Our server tells us that they're out of that dressing. My husband orders the teriyaki kabobs. He said the vegetables were crunchy and undercooked, and the sauce tasted like it was poured right out of a bottle after the kabobs were (half) cooked. My dinner was equally as disappointing; I ordered a medium well sirloin that arrived bloody. I'd pushed my steak and the margarita flight to the end of the table. The lady manager ( I assume she was the manager) walked by and asked us how our dinner was. I explained to her all the issues we'd encountered. Her response- "well the drink mix sits in the bottom of the glasses. You have to stir them up." No response about my bloody steak. She simply asked if she could take it all away. No offer to take items off our check. We paid the check and left. We've frequented Outback for many years.
