Packed on a Sunday night, unlike every other restaurant in Lawrence, I never had a desire to try the Roadhouse, being a steak chain and all. We were running out of new places to try, so being one of the newest additions to the unequivocally mediocre food scene that is Lawrence, Kansas, we gave it a shot. Loud country music and servers line dancing greeted us as we sat at CJ's table. She was very attentive, almost too much so, returning every two minutes to see if we were ready to order. Not a fault by any stretch, CJ was enthusiastic, friendly, efficient, and personable. We could not resist the Roadhouse version of the Bloomin Onion, although I have no idea who came up with the concept first, called the Cactus Blossom ($5.99). The onion was tasty, not overly greasy, and the Cajun horseradish dip was a nice accompaniment. We should not have ordered it, only because after eating some free peanuts and 1/3 of a giant battered deep-fired onion, how could I possibly eat the 10 ounce prime rib I ordered? My better half went with the Beef Tips ($10.99), chunks o' beef sauteed with mushrooms and onion and smothered with brown gravy atop a heap o' mashed potatoes (or rice). The potatoes were her first side dish (you get two with most entrees) and fresh vegetables (steamed carrots and broccoli) the second. A generous portion, the tips were tender, succulent and savory and a very good value. I love Prime Rib and do not splurge too often, but it sounded good and at just $15.99 for a 10 ounce cut and two sides, I could not resist. I like the end cut and the one I got was about the right size, tender as a whore's heart, but a tad overcooked even for me and a little dry. The smoked flavor was not what I was expecting either, but a dip in the aus jus and creamed horseradish sauce eliminated the dryness as well as the smokiness of the cut. But for $15.99, I have to say that although dry, it was flavorful and also an excellent value. My only complaint is the drink menu that lacks prices, another pet peeve of mine, as I have learned NEVER to order anything unless I know the price first. I might have ordered a beer or a glass of wine or two, increasing the tab by 1/3 as well as the tip, but we stayed with water instead, only because I am neither going to ask how much a menu item is nor find out post de facto that a glass of wine cost $12. For the value this place is pretty good. The food is ok, but right for the price. We had a couple of things happen that made for a not great experience, but overall I thought it was ok, but would likely try something else in the area instead of repeating. List of good: 1) ambience is good 2) price/value is good 3) clean Experience that was not good: 1) tried to split up our party with no advance notice (we had a party of 10) 2) half of us had drinks other half had water. Water not refilled and left empty... had to ask at end of dinner for refills. 3) Two of us ordered the 16oz prime rib. One of the prime ribs was 16 and the other looked over 30% smaller and was likely the 12. Let server know before the meal and after the meal of the error and nothing was done. 4) Side order of chili not brought out (forgotten). Texas Roadhouse is on the short list of chain restaurants that I will not only say "yes" to, but I will also be fairly excited to go. If you haven't been to a Texas Roadhouse, the short breakdown is that it's a kitschy and over-the top theme where so much of the restaurant is made to look like a rough-hewn Texas "roadhouse" where folks might stop to get something to eat while traveling. They compliment the rough-around-the-edges and anything-goes nature of the purported Texas frontier by having buckets and barrels of peanuts that patrons are encouraged to eat and throw the shells on the floor (Note for peanut allergies -- Texas Roadhouse is on your "never" list). The food is decent for a chain restaurant. The focus of the restaurant is a traditional "meat and potatoes" menu, so there are a number of options for steaks, chops, and chicken, and several hearty sides, including baked potatoes, baked sweet potatotes, mashed potatoes, steak fries, and green beans. Personally, I get a 8oz or 11oz sirloin, cooked rare as hell, with a Caesar salad and steak fries. It may not be the greatest steak in the world, but to get a steak and two sides for about $1 per ounce of steak is a fair deal. Texas Roadhouse was one of the restaurants that I said that I would patronize frequently if they installed one in Lawrence, and we have been several times. IT's a place that I can go for a good and hearty meal with my wife, and I can take my admittedly-picky father there for a dinner out with family. read more

It's always a roll of the dice when going to the Texas Roadhouse near our place in Lawrence, KS. We tried to go on Saturday evening (because we lost our minds and evidently, forgot how to read a clock) - we drove up, took one look at the crowd and headed to one of our favorite Asian places down the street. But we were still hankerin' for some cow, so we went back tonight. Got seated right away, the young people working there are always super friendly. I was finally going to get that six ounce sirloin my mouth had been watering for, for days. Sadly, the rest of the story is not so happy after this. The salads arrived. I think they were using up the last of a old bag of salad -- the lettuce was badly browned and wilted. I was not inclined to eat it. Then the steaks and baked potatoes arrived. The baked potatoes were on point - which is fortunate, because that's all I ended up having for dinner. My "medium rare" steak was not medium rare - it was barely cooked, so I have trouble calling that even rare (it wasn't even cooked enough to BLEED - that's a pretty blue steak, folks...). So the young lady took my steak back to be cooked a bit more. The floor manager returned several minutes later with my "more cooked" steak and an extra baked potatoe (or a "sympathy potato" as the wait staff calls it - whenever you send something back, they give you an extra "sympathy side" to help (supposedly) assuage your hurt feelings. It didn't work. basically, the steak had been CHARRED (not a good crust, which you want on a steak - there's a difference) on one side (ie., not cooked more on both sides but burned on one side). So now I have a half burned, half raw steak that i can't cut into (even with a steak knife). But I tried to eat that steak, because I wanted steak. But the steak gods were not on my side tonight. Honestly, I could have taken that steak to the local hockey rink, dropped it on the center ice, and had a darned good hockey puck. I wish I could say this was a one-time happening. But unfortunately, at this location, it happens more frequently than not, that we either get a steak cooked incorrectly or a steak that's just so full of fat and gristle that you can't eat it. We had the best experience tonight for dinner. Elieka and Kyle were more than accommodating in the bar area. They were friendly, the salads came out before the food, our entrees were perfect, and they were awesome with keeping our 5 and almost 2 year old occupied and happy. We will absolutely be back and couldn't talk them up more. Ashley also stopped by to check in on us. We know that even if there was even the slightest negative aspect of this visit, they would have done what was needed to fix it. We headed to Texas Roadhouse after the Lawrence downtown Trick or Treat. We were cold and needed a good place to warm up and enjoy a good meal. I tried the salmon which came with a huge baked potato and very fresh salad. The salmon was cooked just right as usual. Codi, our server, was very attentive and kept our glasses full. It was a great meal, I would definitely return and most likely try the salmon again. read more

Let me just start out by saying that I am a huge fan of Tx Roadhouse. They have consistently provided me with above average service and awesome food. That is, until my visit with the Lawrence location. The food was very, eh... I ordered the pork dinner, which was very dry. The service was not where it should be either. The waitress (forgot her name) seemed very frustrated and stressed out throughout the visit, even though it was not very busy. The kicker was is that this location is the only location I have been to that does not have a veterans' discount. I am not one to think that a I am entitled to a discount just because I am a veteran, but literally every other location I have been to had a discount (and I have been to several throughout the country). I'm just saying, this seems to be one of those things that should be consistent throughout all of the locations. Overall, I am underwhelmed and will not likely be back. read more

Was going to meet someone for a business meeting at another steakhouse down the road but found out that the place had closed for good. Out of business. So went to Texas Roadhouse when my business meeting got delayed for several hours. Been to other TR restaurants and all have been really good. Had a business dinner with employees at the Olathe, KS place, then go to the new Lee's Summit, MO place. Been to the one in Belton, MO as well. All good places. So went to the one in Lawrence and was expecting the same experience. Boy, was I wrong. First I set at a table before I new the meeting was going to be delayed. Just got water and then the waitress left never to BE SEEN AGAIN! No rolls, no service, no NOTHING! So got up and went to the bar. The bartender was nice, she went somewhere and then the Manager showed up and it got really weird. Talk about rude. When the bartender came back I asked if that was the Manager and she stated yes. I asked what her name was, I believed she said Ashley. I had made a comment that the server called me by my name and I did not remember telling them my name. It was all in fun really on my part. But Ashley, the Manager, got all huffy, and says "well we won't call you by you name anymore" Then she stormed off. I was like she must of had a bad day. I certainly hope she doesn't talk to all the customers like this. Being a business owner for 31 years myself I would hate to have a Manager treat my customers like this. She wouldn't last long at my place of business. I have a service business as well that's why I have been to all these different locations. Really sad service. Love this place, and go often when I'm on the road because the prices are reasonable. The Lawrence location is new, and I was excited when they opened. I would have rated them 4 stars, but this particular location is LOUD. The customers must try to converse over the music, which it too loud to begin with, and when they do a birthday or their line dance (multiple times while we were there) they turn it up even louder. So yes, this place has good food. However, as one of the most expensive restaurants in town, you should at least get quality service. Ordered here as to-go during the pandemic, and our order was missing two of our side items. Furthermore, it took them 45 minutes longer to make our meal than what was told to me. Went to Texas Roadhouse after the lunch hour (1:30) ,,, we waited 20 minutes after being told a table was ready. While we waited we watched employees play stacking games with to go boxes, then used them to put peoples food in...We had asked for a table that would accommodate a handycap person in a wheel chair & 4 other adults. We were guided to the far corner where there were 6 tables of people already seated while the other half of the restaurant was empty. We ordered and got food in a reasonable amount of time. No offer for drink refills , we were only provided a un- needed box after paying the bill. Would you not think that a table could have been provided to accommodate a person in a wheel chair so the wait staff would be able to care for their customers. Thank goodness there was not an emergency, exiting would have been a problem from that area. read more

I used to love this place. I thought great quality and a good price but the last few times have been lacking. I used to get the small strip but instead of giving you half of a nice thick one, they are giving a thin over cooked steak. I changed over to the filet because it was still good but now it is too thin as well. Now every time I go there my thin steak is over cooked and heavily seasoned with Worcester sauce or something. It does not taste the same, look the same etc. The seem to get the order wrong frequently as well. I was once an outback fan until they started microwaving their steaks. I hope that Texas Road House is not heading in the same direction. read more

When being seated, I was asked if I had been to a Texas Roadhouse before. I said it had been over 5 years. They gave me a new guest envelope and said they would order me a sample appetizer plate for free. I never received it and got what I perceived an insincere and dismissive apology. I ordered the steak kabobs strange presentation. Two rows of meat (not on skewer) with a little bit of peppers and onions in a row in the middle. I have never had kabobs that way. I was unimpressed. Service was decent with the exception of not getting what I was promised. Big exception. Probably won't go back. I was not missing anything in the more than 5 years since my last visit. read more

Honestly, had the BEST experience here! Came on a Monday night with my boyfriend, just for a quick in and out dinner and we were both SO pleasantly surprised. Service was impeccable, everyone was above and beyond friendly and accommodating. We got the cactus blossom and two sirloin steaks with sides. Everything was delicious and very fresh for SUCH a great deal! And the rolls...I mean c'mon...need I say more! Amazing. Had a party of 11 we all wanted to sit with one another but the seating situation was very elbow to elbow. 3 people asked to be seated at a different table next to the group. At first, they refused the table next to the group saying the sitting area we have is to accommodate 11 or 13 people. The waitresses seemed a little confused and went and got a manager. The manager explained why she couldn't give us the table, just told her it's too tight and it's okay if 3 people sit here. She finally said that was okay but was very rude and actually seemed to be argumentative. Thanks for trying to get us all together however the seating situation didn't allow it. I just had one of the worst customer experiences at the Texas Roadhouse in Lawrence Kansas. The manager was unbelievably rude, condescending and immature. I received a promotional email over the holidays. I called the manager to get assistance. ASHLEY was the manager at this location. She was not interested in helping me with my resolution so I asked if there was someone else I could speak to. She gave me the corporate office phone number and she hung up on me. Tis the season I guess. This is very upsetting and disappointing! It is really easy to be a kind person and do the right thing. This is a skill Ashley is still needing some coaching on. I will not be spending my time or money at this Texas Roadhouse again. read more

I am a great fan of any Texas Roadhouse. The steaks are consistently good! Buckets of peanuts and ice cold beer. I always sit at the bar and the bar staff always makes a point of getting your name and using it every time they address you. The only bump on this visit was the timing. They brought the steak out less than 2 minutes after the salad. I got about 3 bites out of the salad before the steak arrived. The salad was set aside and never touched again. Poor control from the kitchen. Should be back there next week. If it happens again, it's a management problem. read more

On our way to the Lied on Sept 30, we decided to have dinner at this restaurant, having a positive experience at our establishments. We arrived at 6:03, was told our wait time would be 5-15 minutes, and exactly 15 minutes later our pager went off. We were seated promptly and Hattie was there to take our drink orders. Unfortunately I ordered sweet tea but got regular tea which isn't bad, not what I ordered. I should drink the sugar anyway so stayed with the tea the way it was served. We then ordered our dinners and they arrived within 10 minutes. Hattie asked me to cut into my prime rib to see if it was cooked to medium as ordered. It was more well done, so Hattie insisted in getting a replacement that was cooked correctly. She returned with a new piece of prime rib very quickly, and this time it was cooked the way it was ordered. Overall a great piece of meat done just right. Hattie saved the day by taking care of me, where other servers might have looked the other way. Definitely will consider stopping at the Texas Roadhouse the next time we are in Lawrence to go to the Lied. read more

What a fantastic happy hour food menu!!! M-F 4-6 we got SO much food for just $8.99 it was good, not great and not something I'll be dying to get back to, but a good meal for a good price. This place is super fun. It just opened a few weeks ago. We went for lunch on a Sunday. All the staff was very friendly. The music is country and the staff danced to a song. Peanuts are a nice touch. Portions are huge which is great for our teenage boys. Server was great. It is now one of our boys favorite restaurant and we plan to eat there for his birthday dinner. read more

Had a take out order last night. When we picked up the order we walked into the building (all of the take out order spots were taken in the parking lot) there was no one else waiting inside. We asked if there was rolls included with the meal and girl at the window said "yes". When we got home we discovered that not only did we not have rolls but other items we asked for where not there. We had asked for extra sauces and aju sauce for the prime ribs we ordered. None of that was there. We also asked for extra butter for the baked potatoes and only got one little container. This not the first time this has happened. The last time I did not say anything but now that it has happened again I feel it is a pattern with this establishment. It is not cheap to eat here and I feel you should be given the same respect when getting food to go as if were eating there. With covid we do not feel comfortable eating inside restaurants but still want to support our local restaurants. It was a shame that this has happened twice to us in a row. There needs to be a better way to train staff to make sure the to go orders are correct. read more

Friday I went in for my first time to Texas Roadhouse in Lawrence. I grew up with one by me in my hometown and was so excited to see this one opened here. First off, the margaritas are great, and the food is even better (great steaks for a great price.) but, the service was wonderful as well. Abby took care of us and she was sweet and attentive.
