I have been there twice now. Once with my sons, 21 and 5 yrs old, and the service was pretty good. My older son liked his meal, sirloin and BBQ chicken, just fine. My sirloin was ordered medium rare but arrived medium (being generous). Slightly pink in middle and not a drop of juice when I cut into it. The seasoned rice side dish was pretty good. Second visit with my wife was really just as disappointing. This time I ordered the bone in rib-eye, again medium rare. I arrived rare, cold and purple in the middle. My wife ordered a mid sized rib-eye, medium rare also. It was like my first visit, medium well, dry. Rib-eye is about my favorite steak, lots of flavor trade off for a bit more chew. That said, cooked any less than med rare is not doing it any favors. A filet, strip, or even a top sirloin rare can be ok, but the eye has too much marble for that. CHEWEY. Here is my biggest problem; they have a "Doneness" guide on the menu, explaining what each term means. Rare = dark red, cool in middle, Medium Rare= red, warm in middle, etc. Clearly they are unable to produce those results. Which is pretty lame for a steak house. Also on the second visit, the server was really nice and charming, he connected well with my 5 yr old. BUT, he was back at the table every 3-5 minutes to check on us. Although he was trying to be terrific, he clearly needed a couple more tables to wait on. That would cut down on the massive amount of employees milling around. I'm glad they are employing a lot of locals, but seriously the place is lousy with black shirts that say "I Love My Job". I don't mind the Clone Dancing by the servers, but seriously? Update: 8/1/2015 Decided to try again now that they have been open awhile. They STILL don't know how to properly cook a steak. This time I had the NY Strip, barely marked on the outside, cold, purple and raw in the middle. Under cooked even if I had ordered rare. It doesn't help that the quality of meat is poor as well. First of all--you need to know when you go to Texas Roadhouse that it's not a fancy steak dinner type of place. It's going to be loud, , and there will be peanuts. That's no surprise if you know their gig. Second--what a nice change of pace for the area. Everyone was friendly, cared about our experience, and our food was fresh and fast! My go to place, never disappointed great food for the money, and every time I'm here I always wonder why I don't come back more often. As it's my special, Occasion birthday kind of place. But that's going to change, as I happen to be driving by and wanted a good steak. I sat at the bar and was pleasantly surprised. Engaged by the manager and bartender, calling me by my first name making me feel like it on the place. I never had to ask for a refill, I had a steak mashed potatoes and a cup chili. The chili was so good I wish I'd gotten a bowl, the potatoes I normally need gravy to eat with, this time just butter. And the stakes are normally cook just the way you like them and this was no exception. Even on the way out I was cordially addressed. Normally somebody coming to buy themselves, is inconvenient ie to most places. Not here planning to coming back soon. Fun place great food, medium prices. On Sunday 4/03, eight of my family members went out to celebrate a birthday. The waitress dropped an entire tray of multiple plates of steaming hot food and glass on my 3 MONTH OLD nephew who was in his car seat at the end of the table. We had to call 911 and not ONE SINGLE staff member, including management, came to see if the baby was okay. They took our personal belongings off the table to clean it up for the next guest before we even had the chance to go back to collect them (they kept the winning lottery tickets on the table tho). I have never seen such poor customer service or lack of compassion, coming from someone who has worked in the restaurant industry and the medical field. Even when an ambulance lit up the whole place and the baby had to be rushed to the hospital, there was still no concern from ANYONE. Even the other guests rushed to help with much concern. None of us will ever spend money at a Texas Roadhouse ever again. So sad, use to be a favorite. read more

Great service! It's always packed, being it's a new place in town, so we tried it at 8pm on a Sunday night. No wait, but it was still busy. All our food was prepared perfectly, our server was EXCEPTIONAL. Big shout out to TERA! She was on her tenth hour of work, but never missed a beat. Friendly and had everything perfect. The only downside is they had way too many staff. Nobody needs to be greeted by 12 people. Also, there were six people sitting on benches or around the corner smoking when we left. I'm pretty upset that it took my boyfriend and I months to finally try Texas Roadhouse because it is amazing to say the least! The bread was amazing with or without the cinnamon butter. I'm not a fan of the cinnamon butter but that's not because of the taste. I just don't prefer sweet things before my meal. We got some type of onion appetizer that came with a delicious sauce. My burger and my boyfriend's steak were both cooked to perfection and tasted great! Not to mention my patrón margarita was probably my favorite part of our experience! It was mixed perfectly and not overly sweet. Our server was so kind and excited to have us there. She was prompt and professional. We like it here a lot. The service is always really great, and they never leave you without anything. If you run out of even the simplest of things (such as the amazing, endless bread and cinnamon butter), the staff is always right there, asking if you want more. We always ask for another basket of bread and cinnamon butter even after we're finished with our meals, and we take them home. Lol. Our infamous saying is, "We're Texas Roadhouse full", because you never leave here hungry. We're always STUFFED when we leave here. The only complaint we have is that it's a little on the expensive side, but you really do get SO much food, so it is most definitely worth it. We love to go here on special occasions. read more

Skinny margaritas here are great. The ribs were dry though and that's a no-go for us. The side of beans were good but oily or too buttery. The baked potato was delicious. Service was great. Guess I was just really disappointed with the ribs. 3.5 stars is maybe a better number for them. read more

So I'm not a fan of chain restaurants, but I gotta say these guys are doing a great job. The local eateries should be on notice. We stopped in last night to see how this place was doing, and we are very glad we did. The restaurant was very clean, the crew very polite, and the food was on point. We had no complaints, except that we couldn't finish. The steaks are tender, juicy and spot on. The ribs have a great smoke, and are melt in your mouth good. I really like this place! FUN ambiance, good service, and excellent food. Let's start with the food; one can get an outrageous amount of food for the price, which is ALWAYS AWESOME:) When I go I tend to get the 8 oz sirloin that comes with two sides. I like to get the mashed potatoes and then the chili and I ask the chili to be served for an appetizer if I'm not getting an appetizer that day. I enjoy the fried pickles, you get a lot for your money with the appetizers as well. My boyfriend usually gets the New York Strip; he likes his steaks rare and they have never cooked it to his dissatisfaction !! The atmosphere is very fun, but if you do not like loud restaurants than this place is not for you. The servers sing and do line dances, I don't know if its on the hour or maybe something they only do on weekends. They all sing and dance which I think is cute and entertaining but I can see how some people would find it loud and annoying. We sit at the bar so have never had any problems with getting our seats and food fast. Drinks are good and bartenders are friendly. It is a chain restaurant so know that when going in. With that in mind it is one of the better ones around and this particular one is excellent. read more

Since this place is still new to the area and there are not a lot of comparable restaurants, it is still pretty busy. I suggest taking advantage of the call ahead seating. The atmosphere is really fun. Our kids especially love the free peanuts and throwing the shells on the floor. The decor is fun, and the staff dances to certain songs which is always a good time. I had three experiences and all were terrible 1) Went their with my husband, friend and her 4 year old spoilt water. So we asked out server for napkins... Took her over 10 minutes to come back and we had wet seats wet table, and wet friends. Our service was slow and she let food plates, drinks pile up on the table so we had no room for anything. My husband finally asked her to take them. Awful service 2) Drinks and app at bar. You would think this would be easy. A college male bartender took forever to make our drinks and then got our appetizer wrong. Never checked back on food and a female bartender looked so unfriendly (an old man even said out loud how mad she looked) we couldn't ask anyone to fix it. Awful service again 3) A simple margarita at bar. Again the college male... Took almost an hour for our drink. He seemed under trained and unsure of what to do. We almost left until he saw us and said it would be another minute... Needless to say the staff needs more training!!! Both my husband and I served so we are empathic but this is just ridiculous. Some kudos I can imagine children enjoying this gimmicky place--there's a plethora of peanuts and the wait staff occasionally stops what they're doing to dance a few jigs during your entrée. They dance in sync, which I guess is kind of impressive if you're into that kind of atmosphere on a Tuesday night. I will also say our waitress was very attentive. She was certainly knowledgeable about the menu, but also spent a long time explaining how coming early--it was 5pm--was very important. Then she explained the call-ahead system which, I'll be honest, baffled me a bit. I imagine waiting on hold for a long time only to be rewarded with a mediocre steak and the ability to be seated before some angry patrons who didn't call ahead--oh wait--this should be kudos. I forgot! I will say people around us were enjoying themselves, but they were also either elderly (enough said), or celebrating a birthday--the prices here can certainly accommodate a crowd comfortably. My Beef--no pun intended If you want good food, drive a little further into Sycamore and enjoy avoiding the chain restaurants along route 23. Strangely, this was the third time my husband and I attempted to eat here--we wanted to see what the hype was about. Each time we come, the parking lot is packed, and you can barely move when you walk in. Imagine tons of people waiting, loud country music playing, and teenaged wait staff speaking to you in overly peppy--trained--voices. The food was not horrible, but as I said before, it was mediocre. I ordered the pulled pork dinner, and it was not bad, but I can make better pulled pork in my crock pot with a can of Dr. Pepper and some spices. I tried my husband's steak, and again, it was simply mediocre. Not much different from ordering steak and eggs at IHOP. I enjoyed my "plain" sweet potato, but probably because I was not privy to the hidden bouts of butter lurking beneath the surface. My side of vegetables came in a little dish with a pool of delicious butter at the bottom, but if you're 33 like myself, a pool of butter might affect your workout regime, or my case, lack thereof. I don't need the butter pool. Overall, the price was right and if you have a family, it might be the place for you. When there's a babysitter, go someplace better. read more

Just had another great steak at Texas Roadhouse in Sycamore/Dekalb, IL. This is our 5th time since they opened in November. We like our steaks cooked medium rare, and they kitchen staff haven't missed yet cooking up a superb steak. Tonight our server Justice was more than excellent, stopped by at the right times to check on us, and address any issues without being intrusive. We asked for extra ranch, and horseradish, and only had to wait mere seconds for them to arrive. We will definitely ask for him in the future!! PS. If you like margaritas, ask for a Razzlesnake. They're not on any menu and we can guarantee you will love 'em!! read more

My husband and I waited a few months to go here as ALL places in DK/Syc seem to have a rough start. The staff was nice, and many hanging around. I don't know why they all start dancing in an aisle by the bar. I thought they were servers; not entertainment. The place is rather loud too. I guess that is what they want to sell. The food was good. Nice to have a steak place again since Johnny's closed. I hope it stays in business as too many fail here in Sycamore/DeKalb area. Competition is good.
