This is a tough review to write, but not for the reason you might think. We stayed at the Omni in Dallas twice in 2014, in August and December. Both times for a week. We spent much of our December visit just decompressing at the Omni. We ate quite often at the hotel's restaurants. I'll get to the point: our experience with Texas Spice was so exceptional that I hesitate to describe it, lest you be disappointed. First, the food is quite good. Very good, in fact. I loved the buffet. The choices quite varied and the quality superior. The prices may be considered high for some folks (I recall the lunch buffet being $18), but given the selection and quality of the offerings, combined with the decor and service, I considered it a very good value. The steaks there were also wonderful. It got to the point where I'd go down to Texas Spice to eat even when I was still somewhat full from the prior meal there! Now to the service. I have never experienced better service anywhere, period (restaurant or otherwise) than we received at Texas Spice. Invariably, the staff was cheerful and attentive. We're not overly demanding on waitstaff, but any inquiry on our part was met with, "sure, we can do that for you." I place the credit for this entire operation with Texas Spice manager Crystal Dossman, who should be very proud of her results. Crystal and her staff made us feel at home. Note: I understand that Crystal is no longer there. I have every reason to believe that Texas Spice continues to provide exception service and cuisine. The hotel itself is wonderful, with Texas Spice the jewel in the crown. We'll be back again. Just staying at the Omni, and eating at Texas Spice may be reason enough to fly from L.A. to Dallas! I wish I could give them six stars. read more

I came here for dinner with a friend and we had an awesome time. The vibe is what you would imagine... Trendy with a laid-back Texan/southern flair. We ordered the deviled egg appetizer which was an interesting twist on deviled eggs. Each creation was unique and delicious in its own way! We also ordered the country fried steak, the crab cakes and the mac-n-cheese. All of the dishes were very tasty, and my friend LOVED the country fried steak. The crab cake dish also utilized BBQ sauce, which I thought was a super creative "Texas" twist. Overall, this is a great spot to check out if you are staying in or near the Omni. With so many southern restaurants around uptown, Texas Spice isn't a place I would typically seek out due to location, but if I'm looking for a solid place to go downtown, I (and you) probably couldn't go wrong here. read more

Once a year we come to Dallas.We always have at least 3 nights at the Omni because we love Texas Spice for breakfast buffet and dinner. This year I had the 72 hour short ribs and my wife enjoyed the chicken fried steak. Both were fantastic. Tonight we enjoyed the buffet. Again it was delicious but the best part of the evening was the service that the lovely and talented Taquisha provide, what a great smile and fantastic server. read more

The restaurant is Inside The Omni hotel. Their buffet is very delicious. I enjoyed the salads that had toppings one can add like candied pecans, cranberries, nuts and more. My favorite today had to be the macaroni and cheese and grilled chicken. The buffet includes soups, salads, and desserts for $19 at lunch. I do suggest a reservation if you are in a hurry. We waited about 20 minutes during a very busy lunch time. I took away one star for a dirty piece of silverware and the hectic pace at the sign in desk. That could be a little more organized. So I'm indulging in decadence during my staycation. The Omni Hotel in Downtown Dallas is the perfect place for such an occasion. This in-house restaurant is something to talk about. I've had breakfast (bagels and lox with fresh berries and grapefruit juice), now I've finished dinner (apple martini, rib- eye steak, hashbrown casserole, grilled vegetables, biscuits and iced tea). I'm going to explode! The food is good! The steak could have been a bit juicier but the natural flavor was very good. Good price point as well. Stayed at the hotel while for a conference. It had good reviews and this was convenient so gave it a try. Terrible service. Waited for so long just get our server to come to us. Placed our order and it took forever to come. Our soup came at the same time as our entree!!! Waiter said nobody told her about that. Well, I didn't know that needs to be specified. Then again she was missing in action and her manager took the order for her because we were waiting for so long. It was a terrible dining experience. Our mood was ruined even before the food came. The food was not bad. Well cooked. Both my steak and my wife's scallops were perfectly done. It was a tad salty as other reviewers said. 1 star because of bad service. This place was on a short list of "places that I could walk to from the Omni Hotel". I would HIGHLY recommend coming here, even if you are not staying in the hotel. I don't remember all the pricing...but it was an avg of $20 I think for each meal. I was here for a large conference. Even though a conference was going on there was plenty of seating. We did not have a reservation and just walked on in. We had the all you can eat "farm to table" buffet. This was $19. The food on the buffet was simply amazing. There was 4-5 salad options, potatoe & corn chips with homemade (maybe habenero salsa...it was HOT), entrees (fish, chicken, beef), HOMEMADE desserts (cobblers, pie, cake, cake shots, cookies), and breads (rolls and biscuits). The chocolate chip cookies were literally the best I have ever had. The service was great. We ordered water. They bring you a large bottle to leave at the table. They even come back and refill your water for you. My glass actually never went empty. Come here. That is all. read more

Because of the relative isolation of the hotel and convention center, this place has a monopoly on food beyond the cafe- or food court-level. So I avoided it. But eventually I got too hungry and had no good option but to try Texas Spice for breakfast. Surprise! At least as a breakfast/brunch choice, it is great. Ended up eating there three days in a row. The food has a farm-to-fork vibe, with a diverse array of atypical ingredients--without taking it to ridiculous extremes. When done right, this approach gently entices you into trying novel combinations and new items, and Texas Spice gets it right. As a devoted carnivore with paleo tendencies, I loved the selection of meats available at the brunch buffet, and the bacon was perfect every day. But the fruit, eggs, and oatmeal were also on point. Once you get through the front door, you'll quickly forget you're in a hotel restaurant. Casual, classy, and comfortable. Service was friendly and attentive, except for my last day when everyone disappeared from my half of the restaurant and no one came by to give me my check for over 20 minutes. read more

I traveled to Dallas for a conference and stayed at the Omni Hotel. Texas Spice is attached to the hotel. I travel quite often for work and have to navigate the world of gluten-free restaurants and menus. This is one of the best restaurants I have ever eaten at, gluten-free or otherwise. And I'm picky, being the Gluten Free Diva (www.glutenfreediva.com). I had dinner here last night and decided to take the chance, which I don't usually do, with the buffet. The head chef came out and went over everything with me and advise me as to what to eat and what to stay away from. It was fantastic. They were very accommodating; they even brought me a special gluten-free dessert, a brownie beautifully tested with chocolate syrup and top with blueberries and BlackBerries and raspberries. I returned for breakfast this morning and ordered Huevos Rancheros. Everything about it was fantastic, from the perfectly cooked eggs to the tasty refried beans and chorizo to the avocado placed delicately on top. I can't recommend this restaurant highly enough you have to try it to believe it. By the way they have a whole separate counter with gluten-free bread, muffins and three different kinds of granola, and a separate dedicated gluten-free toaster. read more

I didn't love the wine list and I thought the food took awhile to come out. Nothing blew me away. The schnitzel dinner was a let down. Came here for brunch with the fam (a very large group) when we were visiting my sister in Dallas. I'm normally not into buffets AT ALL, but this one was THE exception. Everything in it was quality and there were so many choices including an omelette bar. If I had to say something bad about the food, its that I wish they had fresh squeezed OJ. Now, the space itself is amazing. I was really taken about by the architecture and style of the place. Very impressive and fresh. I've been to a lot of restaurants that are in the same vein and they all feel the same, but this one had a real original twist on a hip look. I've been staying at the Omni most of the week for a convention with my company. I had two dinners here with table service, once alone and once with colleagues. And one breakfast with colleagues where I partook of the buffet. Simply, each meal I had was wonderful. The greeters and waitstaff were friendly. My colleagues who dined throughout the week enjoyed the meals and service as well. I hate buffets. But there lunch buffet is the best thing I've ever laid my eyes on. I've tried their lunch buffet twice and they have really great food on the line plus dessert. They focus on local, organic, sustainable and it shows. Everything I tried was top quality. The service was good and attentive and they offer an in house filtration system which gives you free sparkling water - love, love, love this. If you can't keep your will power in check go for the Chocolate Chip Cookies and fresh milk on the dessert bar. The cookies look hard but when you break them open they are all melty inside. Also worth nothing - they always have biscuits and bread but what's fabulous about the buffet is they have a butter board with every kind of butter you would ever want to try. read more

While staying at the Omni we went to Texas spice for breakfast. It is not cheap however it is excellent. My wife got the breakfast buffet which is $19 but does include your coffee and OJ which makes it a little bit better since just your normal 2 eggs, pots & meat is $14 then you pay for your drinks works out to be cheaper. I elected for the breakfast brisket hash which was absolutely amazing. There is a TON of it easily splittable for 2 people that doesn't eat a lot for breakfast. The server was excellent and the food super fresh. Place is comfortable and clean. Definitely recommend because as the saying goes "you get what you pay for" read more

SO, we ate here about 5 times. I know what you're thinking: "THIS IS A HOTEL RESTAURANT, Jaclyn. You don't do these things." Yes, you're right, but the breakfast buffet was such a good deal, and if I was going to gain 10 pounds on vacation, it was going to be because of their amazing cheddar biscuits and ridiculously good famous-for-a-reason chocolate chip cookies. "Downtown" Dallas isn't really a downtown with a main street with lots of restaurant choices, so if you're staying in this area, stay at Omni, eat the cheddar biscuits at Texas Spice, and call it a damn day! read more

I'm still here, enjoying this marshmellow/pineapple ambrosia dessert during my friend's bachelorette dinner.. but the food & service was so superb that i wanted to write down my thoughts before i forgot after the night i'm sure this bachelorette is going to bring me... (ok, i saved the draft & now i'm back the next day to finish this review BUT!) $20.57 total for a buffet of southern foods made farm to table which included: + butternut squash soup - i kept calling it a grainy queso. it is so velvety & creamy - delicious! + fresh salad assortments - i choose the spinach & berries, definitely can taste the crispness, sweetness & tartness of each ingredient. + herb potatos, herb carrots, sauteed cabbage, creamed hominy, mac&cheese - yum, yum, yum, yummmm. + sliced beef - full of flavor! + shrimp & chorizo stew - just the right amount of spices. + roasted chicken - i didn't eat this, but the rest of the girls ate it up. + BBQ meatloaf - in the words of our server Ingrid: "don't sleep on the meatloaf - it is SO good." + assortment of desserts - lemon bar, good. ambrosia, good. ice cream, GOOD. the rest of the desserts looked just as good, but i was so full i couldn't even think about trying it all. the dining experience was fantastic. i had a huge headache from running around finishing up errands that i was actually nervous i wouldn't be able to enjoy the meal or the night - but our server, Ingrid, and the manager went above & beyond by going to the gift shop in the hotel to get me some Advil which helped the headache go away soon after so that i could enjoy the rest of the eventful bachelorette party. in addition to our awesome server, there was a young man near the buffet (i didn't catch him name) who brought out the ice cream when asked who was so sweet to the kids that were asking for whipped cream on their ice cream. texas spice - you're full of sugar & everything nice as well too - will most definitely be back! read more

We stumbled upon Texas Spice on Yelp tonight, and it did not disappoint! From the very moment you walk in the atmosphere draws you in. The staff was delightful. And the food was simply amazing! Someone described this as an upscale Chili's, but it is so much more! They have creative and delicious farm-to-table dishes. We enjoyed the chicken fried steak, fish tacos, and the house burger. My 5 star review is for the breakfast and lunch buffet. I dined here twice, once on a Sunday part of a party of 7 and once on a Monday as a part of a party of 4. The service on the weekends was much more prompt. Our waiter was personable and brought us anything we needed quickly. Our drinks were refreshed before even having to ask. Many of us mistakingly gave up our silverware with our buffet plates and were given new sets without having to ask. The breakfast bar is plentiful and varied. There are gluten free options off to one side nowhere near everything else to prevent contamination. There were three types of cereal, whole and 2% milks, individual chobani yogurts, passion fruit and coconut shakes in small shooters, scrambled eggs, bacon piled high, a housemade blueberry sausage patty, biscuits, white gravy, croissants, toast, bagels, a potato dish, a to die for French toast casserole, and fresh fruit. There is also a made to order omelet bar where you can choose your own toppings with no limit. The same window has waffles. This was one of the best waffles I've ever had. It cones shaped as the state of Texas! They have real maple syrup and whipped cream at the bar. The cold and hot foods are all in a line, the omelet/waffle area is separate as is the bread station complete with a toaster, jams, honey, nutella, butters. This is what a buffet should be! Weekday buffet gets shut down around 1030 but Sunday it runs until noon then transforms to lunch. I don't know if we got lucky on Sunday but we were able to have breakfast then lunch since we hit the sweet spot during both. This menu is thought out and it delivers. For $17 including a coffee, this place is totally worth it. The decor of the restaurant is beautiful, everything matches and gives an upscale feeling. This may be a treat at the price point but I can say I will visit every time I am in Dallas read more
