2017's vegfest got even better! It has been in the works for a few years now (6 to be exact) so I was really not holding my breath for the past couple of years but I think it has finally caught up to all the hype and could possibly be categorized as "not overrated." There were a handful of food trucks who were there and a lot of new guys stepping up and bringing some game to the table. We got to try vegan cheeseburgers, hotdogs, chili dogs, popsicles, icecream, coffee, pastries, macncheese, kale chips, veggie chips .. and even got to get henna done! There was live music and tons of free samples. I do hope that maybe they can start bringing in fresh vegetable vendors. It is a bit tiring to see all of these processed foods, although that is what is hardest to find if you are a vegan I suppose. I also hope they can maybe run it for more than just one day. As it is .. they only open on Saturday and for the time of year they chose it probably means you have to give something else up or cut things short here. It's still a cool concept and I hope to see them grow more and more. I hope to make it to many more of these in the future. Parking is not hard to find if you don't mind walking a bit. If you do mind then just come a little early and you won't have any trouble finding parking. They had really awesome port-a-potties and even provided sinks with a foot pump that you could use to wash your hands with SOAP!!

First time attending the Texas Vegfest in Austin. I live in Houston & usually attend the Houston Vegfest. This year however, Houston Vegfest was cancelled so basically a no brainer. My weakness was all the food available. Lots of new food to try since I usually don't visit Austin too often. Pastries everywhere, Mango chili lime donut was incredible from Red Rabbit Cooperative bakery. To bad they were only a few donuts left when I got there, if not trust me I would have bought some more. There were lots of vendors & food trucks. Arlo's was packed all day long. I liteally waited in line for 45 mins for a Bac N Cheeze burger which after I ate was contempt with. Delicious! Fiesta Gardens is a nice place to hold this event as well. Next to the river so the scenery was pleasent. I will be attending this event for years to come, definetely worth the drive. Next year I will remember to bring a lawn chair so I can sit close to the Colorado River & enjoy the delicous food oftered at Texas Vegfest.

I was greeted and seen promptly for the appointment, and I received a body scan using one of their machines which gives a print out of personal stats including body fat and muscle content, water content, etc. It was really fun to learn a little more about myself and my physical distribution. I also received a recommendation for a supplement to help with mild appetite suppression and fat burn which I am indeed curious to try. On a side note - I didn't look through all the pharmacy items because I was short on time but BOY did they have a selection in there! You have to be careful about just starting new meds because they can interact with prescription medications, but if you got a supplement cleared with your doctor, I'm fairly sure this place would have it. They also have ample parking out front, and are easy to find right off north Lamar.

People's Pharmacy, you are harming patients. It is unethical to sell homeopathy. Do not reply to my review with anything other than "We're removing homeopathy from our shelves," because I will not change my mind on this. Because of this, and the fact that they're slow AF, I get my cat's meds compounded at Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital in Kentucky unless it's an absolute emergency. Kentucky has the cheap drugs for some reason.

Pre-packaged meals and drinks are available to grab from the refrigerators as well if you are just running by. If not, there is a small indoor seating nook with tall seating. I didn't love the Brilliant Brain as I could taste the stevia, and the desserts we tried were ok. The blueberry lavender cheesecake was heavy on the lavender. I will return to try others.

That's finally changed with the arrival of Conscious Kitchen ATX, a new wholesome oasis in West Lake Hills. Opened just three weeks ago, it's already redefining what it means to eat well and be well. Nuts and seeds form the incredibly hearty foundation for most meals, like the pizza slathered with pesto and sun-dried tomato sauce, veggie burgers that use two patties instead of buns, and hefty breads that could double as savory granola bars. I was treated to a sampler platter because I always need a little taste of everything. Try to save room for dessert though, because these creamy creations are something else. My favorite was the coffee cake, which actually relies on chicory root to impart a caffeine-free latte-like flavor. Conscious Kitchen isn't just filling a gap in the local food scene, it's rewriting the script on what healthy eating taste like. The proof is on the plate that raw food can be decadent and crave-worthy, too.

PERFECT?! Intriguing! The linguistics alone sold me. 20% of your daily recommended protein. Ingredients that I UNDERSTAND. That I would actually cook with. Very little sugar, gluten free... basically a protein bar that is way more delicious and lacks any weird shit I've never heard of. When I visited Whole Foods the other day, they were giving free samples of a protein bar. I countered with, "But have you tried The Perfect Cookie?" And began an uncharacteristically promotional rant. I think I convinced her. Yes, these facts are interesting but OH MY GOD. The flavor! I adore Grandma's Cookies (the brand) and this tastes EXACTLY like Grandma's.. but I don't feel horrible when I eat five. So dense and soft and decadent. I've tried all three flavors (macadamia nut and white chocolate, chocolate chip, and peanut butter) WAY too many times in the month since I've discovered this bliss and they are all fantastic. Why you gotta make cookies seem so harmless and good for me? THIS JUST ISN'T RIGHT. The HEB 20% off coupon isn't helping either.

I have not tried the cookies but the Oatmega Bars are awesome. When I don't have time for a sit down meal post workout I will occasionally pick up an Oatmega Bar from either Snap Kitchen or MyFit Foods. I usually cannot stand the chalky meh taste of "healthy" bars or they have more calories than I want. While I am not a fan of how their Dark Chocolate Peanut bar tastes, the Vanilla Almond is heavenly and the Dark Chocolate Mint tastes just like a Girl Scout thin mint cookie. All the bars are 190 calories, have 14 grams of protein, gluten free, have antioxidants from green tea and are loaded with omega 3s. Some of the ingredients include grass-fed whey protein, organic brown rice, organic raisins, non-GMO sunflower lecithin but warning to the vegetarians it does contain fish oils. They do not have a storefront but you can purchase a box online. They are also carried at some HEBs, Central Market, Fresh Plus, and I have seen them at some of the Snap Kitchens and MyFit Foods locations.

We were each given a very tall pilsner glass and 10 generous samples per person. I waved the tipsy flag about 5 in after eating approximately one million pounds of sausage. My favorite link of the day was from La barbecue. It was smoky, spicy, savory, and delicious. I also enjoyed the warm pretzel we shared and awesome kraut. My husband was especially excited that the Derailers were playing and I somewhat remember watching a few songs. I would like to thank all of those who made Austoberfest such an amazing event, the fun loving people of Yelp Austin for granting me access, my German heritage for creating in me a love of all things brews and brats, and metro for being my DD so that all I had to do was wobble myself back to the station and enjoy an air conditioned drunken snooze back home. In addition, I would also like to thank the pecan street festival going on next door who made the funnel cake I just had to have. My only regret was not taking more pictures at the event, especially in the funky cool set up photo booth, but there is always next year! Until we meet again, Prost!
