I've been coming to the Herb Bar for years, but my recent visit truly stood out. A few weeks ago, I was helped by Kassidy , and I honestly can't say enough good things about her. I explained my struggles with anxiety, and she was more knowledgeable, compassionate, and understanding than any professional I've worked with before. She holds no judgment, just compassion and guidance to healing. I've had trouble sleeping for years, and Kassidy took the time to really listen, educate me, and support me in a way that felt deeply personal. She has such a thoughtful understanding of what it's like to be a woman dealing with anxiety, and that made all the difference. I had the most drawn out fiasco i have ever experienced with the company the herb bar. I was trying to special order some essential oil, I was quoted incorrectly in email and in person. this lead me to spend most of my gift certificate on retail items. I will admit I was somewhat gullible to believe the price the owner quoted me, but she is the owner. Strangly I was trying to communicate thru email because I was unable to call because of a service issue of some sort and it was next to impossible to get a response. this fiasco started in November and today is January 20th. They recieved the essential oil today and there one redeeming employee sent me an email and called me telling me that the oil is about 7 times the quoted price. That price made so much more sense. So long story short I was misquoted twice for an item I special ordered by the owner Megyn. I spent most of my gift certificate on retail because of this and now the item is in and yes a much more believable and very expensive price and definitely not enough discount for the complete absence of customer care shown by the owner. My partner took me here as a surprise to try and lift my spirits after getting not so great news from my ob, we're an occult family so naturally i was excited to see what they have and love all things eastern medicine, herbs etc. i felt so calm and peaceful once we entered their amazing store and also got some quality time with the shop doggo named gizmo, she cuddled up to me while i carried her around and it was incredibly healing for me given the anxiety and stress I've been dealing with. There's so many amazing crystals, tarot cards, teas, books, and more! All the amazing women working were so kind and easy to talk with which made things that much better. Wow! It's been a long time since I've been here. So my main reason is my boss. She has Cedar allergies really bad. I heard The Herb Bar has this serum and I was willing to grab it for her and hopefully help with the Cedar effects. I'll update how things are going with her. A week after my boss has been dealing with Cedar, I started getting the same symptoms, so I got one of the serums for myself too. I'll update you on my results. Since it has been a while, I wanted to see the changes and see what all the items they have. I did buy a hematite ring, which sadly broke in 12 hours. I was washing my hands and it broke in half. I understand that it's a stone and that can happen, just sad that it didn't last a full day at least. Kind of felt like I bought a ring from a bubble gum machine. I wouldn't recommend buying it to anyone. I do like that they have a variety of smudge sticks. I visited this establishment in the fall of last year and got a weird vibe but thought maybe I had imagined it. I went there again recently and had the same subpar experience. Both of the workers I interacted with were not friendly at all. The person who was helping with the herbs was super friendly and chatty with the person in front of me and even walked them to the register. However, with me, she barely acknowledged me and walked away from me when I was trying to tell her what I needed. The cashier wasn't much better. Now that I see previous reviews I realize I was not imagining it and this place is definitely discriminating against people of color. I'm sure they couldn't care less about my experience because their business is still getting lots of other customers but I needed to leave a review to warn other people of color. There are plenty of other places for herbs and such that would be glad to have your business. This just isn't one of them. It's really sad because I wanted to like this place. You would think in a place that sells healing herbs and other things for wellness, the staff would practice kindness and compassion for all patrons. What a great shop. Ive been coming here since way before it was discovered by the rest of the country. Housed in a little stone building probably over 100 years old, it sits just off the main drag of South Congress Avenue. Potions, lotions, rocks, candles, herbs, incense, jewelry. You name it they can support your healthy mystical lifestyle with quality products that are source confirmed. The staff is laid back and helpful and you will never feel rushed or watched here. This is such a cute little shop. From the outside it looks like something from Alice in Wonderland. It's small, but they have so many cool things to look at from books, jewelry, supplements, oils, crystals, teas, herbs, and even tarot cards. As far as stones, they have a good basic selection but don't go in expecting something on the level of Nature's Treasures. They'll have a lot and not have a lot. My friend Steven C. directed me to this spot. We both make small batches of beard oils and these guys totally have the hook up on essential oils! My first impression here is that it looks like something from harry potter on the outside. Some plants cover the entire face of the building and it creates a very nice look. I could almost just sit outside the store, have some coffee and relax. The interior of the business is equally relaxing. Its such a mellow shopping environment and they have enough stock to keep you interested for hours. The selection of essential oils is unmatched the whole town over and the prices are equally great! I cant recommend the Herb Bar enough! If you need essential oils this is the place! They also specialize in some other new age type stuff. The Herb Bar was definitely a fun experience for me because I'd never been to such an extensive holistic spot that offered more than the typical health stones and oils. They have a room that's strictly dedicated to all sorts of teas. My buddy loves this place because they're incredibly willing to help answer all his questions about which tea will get him closer to his inner self. We were in there for almost 30 minutes and my friend walked out with teas, a protection necklace, and literature. I left with a very strong Oolong/Black/Green tea mixture. The teas run about $3.85 and up for small bags...pretty pricey but people love tea! The incense they were burning was so strong that it stayed in my hair and clothes all day(I didn't care for that). My man has a beard that has become a huge part of his life over the past 3 years. He has been oiling his beard for quite awhile and has learned a lot about this. Over the past year he got into mixing his own essential oils. He heard from a friend that The Herb Bar was the place to go to find all different kinds of essential oils. Boy did we hear right! They had a super, nice selection - different brands, different scents and store made scents. It was way better than going to Central Market or Whole Foods. The price was decent too. They also had tons of other stuff you normally wouldn't find in this same genre of product. If you are looking for holistic they have it, if you are looking for a special rock they have it, if you want a spiritual piece of jewelry or a unique gift this is definitely a place to consider checking out. There was also a wall of loose herbs which I thought was pretty cool. My man ended up spending about $60 on essential oils and he probably got about 7 or 8 different vies of oil. I was a customer that spent about $200 a month going into the Herb Bar based on a phone call with them I'll never go back. I went in, had a bandana mask on, changed it with no qualm when they asked me too and continued shopping. I got what I needed and headed over the the essential oils. I saw signs about shop lifting posted on some shelves and I was the only one in the store. I was standing 2 feet from the register looking at oils when someone walked up to me and said, "Can I take your things to the register for you?" I thought that was a weird question... not, "Can I help you find anything?" or "Would you like me to hold those items for you?" It was almost like I was being asked to hand them over with no option of saying no and the lady was standing so close to me it almost seemed expected. I said, "No, I'm done here." At the register when checking out I saw a sign that said, "Please don't leave things at the register." I was 2 feet away, the only one in there, I was wearing pajama pants and honestly thought they pegged me as a shop lifter. It was super weird. I told my girlfriend about it and she called instead of leaving a review. Which is why I'm here now. Ally answered the phone, my girlfriend put it on speaker so I could hear, and she explained the chain of events in order to tell her who I was. I'm honestly not sure how it got to this point but Ally went off on my girlfriend and said, "F*** you and get the f*** out of here! I've had family members die from covid! Get the f*** out of here! We don't want your business and don't come back!" I honestly wish I recorded it because I would post it all over the internet. We were in disbelief we were when we got off the phone. I understand the pain of that and can deeply empathize, however there is no reason whatsoever that a business should be talking like this to customers. I regret ever spending any money to support this business. Wish granted. I'm never going back. I've moved my business for herb shopping to the Dragon Herbarium in Portland, they have a wider variety of herbs that one can ingest and will ship all of their inventory to you if you are concerned about going out. read more

The folks at the Herb Bar are kind, extremely knowledgeable and educate without any hint of judgement. Today I went in to ask about CBD oil. Dani spent 20 minutes with me patiently answering my basic questions, listening intently and sharing her personal experiences. She was supposed to leave on break or had finished her shift but actively chose to finish our conversation. After a friend posted on Facebook how much she loved this place, I checked them out online and was stoked to go! I went this morning before work. I walked through the door and a woman who was one the phone said "We have other stuff to put out! I'm sorry I left the door unlocked." Huh? You're sorry you left the door unlocked?? Good morning to you too! I looked at my clock and it was 9:58 (they open at 10:00). I browsed the small section at the front and neither of the other two employees spoke to me. I just left. What a terrible experience. People come to places like these for healing (among other things) not to be treated like they are a burden. I have a list of Xymogen and other products that totaled almost $300 online. I knew it would be a little more expensive to buy it at a store but didn't mind because it looked like such a cool place. I love the way the store smells! I live around the corner but have only ventured in twice. On my last visit my mother and I walked in seeking relief from lower back and knee pain. I honestly can't believe there is only ONE other negative review of this place. I understand it's charming and there's interesting concoctions all over, but is everyone else really experiencing friendly, knowledgeable service? Really?!? I was "helped" by a girl who didn't know firsthand how to help me, instead she brought me a bag of herbs and some notes by someone ELSE who worked there, who apparently couldn't talk to me himself. THEN when I tried to explain my situation to her, she CUT ME OFF and said, snottily, "That's why I'm giving you this". THEN she handed me off to a taller version of herself, who was weighing out additional herbs. When I asked her what I was supposed to do with this stuff she said, and I quote, "I don't know. I don't know what she told you." Then, after much prodding, she came up with some vague suggestions and handed me a piece of paper. So, $18 and 3 bags of herbs later, I'm angry, vaguely humiliated, and not at all sure the best way to work with these herbs. I could have bought these online. I was trying to support local business and obtain some additional insight. I still have to go online to learn about what it is I bought and how best to work with it. I'll not be going here ever again. I don't recommend you go, either. I hope more people speak up. read more
