So I came here as part of a Yelp event but the event page disappeared long ago so I'm not sure how to leave a review specific to that... but just in regards to my experience having a consultation at peoples rx wellness department, I have nothing bad to say! I was greeted and seen promptly for the appointment, and I received a body scan using one of their machines which gives a print out of personal stats including body fat and muscle content, water content, etc. It was really fun to learn a little more about myself and my physical distribution. I also received a recommendation for a supplement to help with mild appetite suppression and fat burn which I am indeed curious to try. On a side note - I didn't look through all the pharmacy items because I was short on time but BOY did they have a selection in there! You have to be careful about just starting new meds because they can interact with prescription medications, but if you got a supplement cleared with your doctor, I'm fairly sure this place would have it. They are THE place to get your pet's compounded medicines in Austin, but I'm really irked that they sell homeopathic remedies. Homeopathy (not herbal medicine or traditional medicine) is a scam. The "medicine" is water. A pharmacy is a place where we go to get reputable medications from educated medical professionals, not to be ripped off buying scam water. Selling these things is NOT harmless or neutral. People's Pharmacy, you are harming patients. It is unethical to sell homeopathy. Do not reply to my review with anything other than "We're removing homeopathy from our shelves," because I will not change my mind on this. Because of this, and the fact that they're slow AF, I get my cat's meds compounded at Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital in Kentucky unless it's an absolute emergency. When I called to ask a specific question about ingredients in a topical product first the "wellness" person did not listen. When I described the condition, I got a sales talk on the supplements I should try orally. I explained that was not what might not be a solution for me. Also when I looked up the product Online I got the answer to my question. If you want to be pushed to buy supplements that you may not need, then call Peoples. Waste of time! This review has been long overdue. I've been a patron of People's RX since 2011. I've sent many patients to People's (and myself included) for all of my dietary supplement needs. I've grown to love the staff, the well-curated supplements and even their wellness consultations they offer. Ruby, David and the rest of the staff has always been warm and welcoming. The one thing it is missing is a tip button at checkout for those times when the staff has gone above and beyond their job description. You do not receive service and knowledge like this from CVS/ Walgreens/Whole Foods/etc. I think making this an option for customers reflects the value we have for the staff that service us. read more

This pharmacy is in a league of their own. Anyone on the floor can help you with basically whatever question you have. If the questions are more complex and involve a deeper understanding of additional side effects from other supplements/medicine you are taking they have people on staff that can validate those concerns as well. It shocks me that multiple reviews have complained about Covid precautions, they are doing the best they can just like everyone else. If you don't like it, utilize the curbside service they offer. Not just a pharmacy! They have an adorable Deli that serves vegan food. A healthy choice of drinks and this place is one of the places that uses best practices for Covid. Grab some stuff from the deli and sit outside for a bit :) They have a convenient hand sanitizing station outside of the door which I really appreciate before touching door handles. - Cleaniness "on my level" Even the floors are clean. - Knowledgeable staff - Rewards program They'll let you know if you have a dollar (not percentage) discount off a purchase you are about to make. - if they don't have it in stock at the North Lamar store, they called the one down south and I'm able to get my dog's arthritis supplements the same day. Every time. Super reasonable rates! For context, I picked up the same medication at the veterinary's office which cost over $150. I am able to get the same three supplements he needs for less than $80 (full, 3 month supply) *I typically go in there just to get something from the deli and to pick up standard process supplements. I am fairly sure they check every single thing when it comes in because I have never had any broken packages or had to return anything. As a super bonus - not only are the staff knowledgeable and detail oriented, they also talk to you like they care about you (and my pet, in this case) Side Note - I did hear today that they are getting a little more strict about pet supplements. Just make sure you have a name from your veterinarian. Literally, the best pricing in town, local vibe, and a place to sit and read the chronicle :) Tip: Try to park in the back, the front has three pick up spaces. And, in case you are experiencing symptoms they have a very quick call in and fill process. I don't think I've ever waited more than 15 minutes. read more

I can here to pick up a compound topical medication. People's RX was on top of it from the start. They called to verify if I wanted the prescription due to the price. They also called to let me know when I can pick it up. During the pickup, the pharmacist had a brief chat about the medication after I paid for the medication. Nice people but.... I've had to fill 3 important prescriptions for my cat in the past 4 months, and each has taken 3-4 days to get the medicine. They only seem to start working on my prescription when I call and talk with someone. I understand they're busy. Maybe it's low priority because it's a dying cat? Early yesterday morning I put in a request for a refill. I just called and found out that "There are no more refills. We need to contact the doctor." Almost 2 days later and I'm finding this out. There aren't many compound pharmacy's, so it's not easy for me to go someplace else. My advice is: Always talk to someone there if it's important. Don't trust the automated system. read more

But they also actively promote on their website, and in their store, scams like "homeopathic" remedies that are proven to have absolutely no actual effect on the body, many of which are literally just water. It's unethical to prey on the people who are suffering from medical issues, and selling them products that any medical professional can easily research and see that these products have zero medical benefit of any kind. read more

Boo! This used to be one of my favorite places to find not only compounded meds, but also unique gifts, cards, and other stuff. I stopped by a couple of months ago to look at their card selection. WTH happened to this place? The cool funky gift part is just gone...gone...gone... Bummer! It is now just a sterile pharmacy with no funk, no weird, no fun, no life...Ugh... Sadly disappointed. I honestly don't know why I don't go here more often. I love this place. I've been here a couple of different times to pick up relatively obscure medicinal items. The staff always knows exactly where everything is and points you to it immediately. They are extremely helpful and friendly. I know they also have a smoothie bar and possibly some food items. I'm going to definitely go back soon and check those out as well! You just can't beat this kind of service and it's so nice to not be going to a giant chain. read more

My cat used to have 2 prescriptions and 100% of the time I called to refill them, I would get a call saying they are ready and I'd show up and only 1 was ready. Not only that, they would never have any record of a second one being requested. Every refill request would end up in two trips to the pharmacy. I found a cheaper online pharmacy but now my cat just needs 1 prescription, a different one than before. The vet recommended Peoples and I thought there was no way they could mess up 1 prescription. I just went after getting a call that it was ready, and sure enough there was no prescription there waiting for me whatsoever. read more

Peoples really shines when it comes to finding the odd item that the physician insists on but that getting one of the major pharmacies to carry or even special order is nearly impossible. Ever heard of a petrolatum bandage? Yep, they've got 'em. Try to get these at Walgreens, CVS, or HEB and they don't have a clue what you're talking about. Ever heard of No-Rinse Shampoo? Yep, they've got that, too. When Walgreens didn't carry it at all. Plus, they are pretty free with their advice if you need it. At the same time, they leave you alone to shop if you don't. read more

For real love this place... They have so much in there that I had no idea about! I went in here once when a buddy of mine raved about a chocolate cream pie they stock, but was shocked at the product assortment. The pharmacy is so incredible. They'll offer you western and holistic treatment paths when you come to them with an issue, which I think is really great. The deli offers sandwiches that can be made to suite almost any dietary restriction! From gluten free to paleo. Amazing! The staff is super knowledgeable and willing to assist. This review is for the cocowhip, as advertised on the sign on the road on N. Lamar. While it is hydrating, electrolytic, low in sugars, natural, bio-fermented probiotics, etc., it really wasn't my cup of tea. Although the texture was very similar to dairy softserve, the flavor was not very sweet and rather plant-y. Additionally, when we were there, the price was not well displayed, which caused us to be unpleasantly surprised when it came time to pay. I will note that the fine folks at Peoples have reached out to us and let us know that they're fixing that issue. All in all, I'm sure that cocowhip has an audience, but I'm not it. I would really recommend trying a sample before splurging on a full order. read more

I had an odd experience the other day, and it seems to me it isn't the first time I''ve atleast suspected that someone at Peoples' Pharmacy was outright lying; certainly this is not my first very off experience with them. Customers should also be aware that their pricing structure is ridiculous, unless they want to pay for something else, like the new-age hand holding. I was comparative shopping for compounded vaginal estradiol cream. I phoned Peoples Pharmacy on North Lamar, Medsavers, and a place in San Marcos I heard of by word of mouth. The results: Place in San Marcos: $45 for 100g of a particularly popular formulation that resembles Estrace; otherwise, $45 for a two month supply. Medsavers: $40 to $45 for 15 g; about a month to 30 day supply, no matter what form or strength estradiol cream my doctor prescribed. If I were loaded with money I could have gotten a 3 month supply for $70 to $90. (Medsavers is usually though not always the cheapest place in Austin to get any prescription drug that is not covered by your insurance. I also heard excellent things from my doctor about the base they use for their estrogen creams.) Peoples Pharmacy: $56 for a 1 month supply, no matter how much, what dose or what strength my doctor prescribed, and then when I clarified this, it would be $56 for the next month, and so on. When I expressed my views on that, the pharmacy employee I was talking to told me "That's how it is in compounding". A typical prescription for estrogen cream is for a prefilled quantity such as 30 g and lasts the typical woman three months Not only is this highway robbery, but that clearly is NOT how it is in compounding. Clearly most pharmacies that do compounding, which is an increasing number of them, charge based on the amount. Peoples Pharmacy certainly knows that, or should, and it's a bald faced lie intended to deceive the customer. It was also quite stupid. It was clear to the person I was speaking with that I already knew better. I told Peoples Pharmacy. I won't be doing business with them. Then I told my sister, who is an avid customer of theirs, the entire story. Then I wrote to an executive director of my health insurance, which covers both premarin and estrace at $500 for 30 grams and would save money by covering the more effective and far cheaper compounded creams, and told her the price structures all three pharmacies gave me, as well as that I "more politely" told Peoples Pharmacy to "jump in the lake", so whatever else happens I think Peoples Pharmacy won't benefit from it. read more

A while back, the parking situation at this location was awful. Since then, it's been pretty good. I like this pharmacy, and use it a fair amount for compounding. Customer service is usually quite good, especially from the friendly pharmacists. Today, though, the young man at the register seemed to give me the impression that I was interrupting his day. I was fulfilling a prescription for my baby and wandered the aisles of People's Pharmacy while waiting. Homeopathic remedies are everywhere at People's. I grew up in a religion that relied on prayer in lieu of medicine, and now have a profound respect for the scientific method and medical science. And I've recently learned a lot about homeopathy's approach, claims, and history, which shares a lot in common with many psuedosciences that use scientific language but do not rely on scientific methodology. When I asked one of the employees why they sell chemically inert substances at $20/vial, when they perform no better than placebo, she explained that they don't work on everyone but they do have "magical" powers and that "miracles happen" when you properly diagnose someone holistically. I gently tried to explain about homeopathy's origin, that it was based on 18th century magical thinking that "like cures like", that homeopathy has no basis in evidence-based medicine, and that substances are often diluted past the point of having a single molecule of the original ingredient, I was told about anecdotes of supposedly convincing authority ("I've seen with my own eyes a woman who instantly recovered from anaphylactic shock, how else could you explain that?"). I was told that quantum mechanics would validate homeopathy soon. I was directed to their homeopathic doctor who could tell me all about the mechanics of this magical water. It wouldn't bother me as much if this wasn't a licensed pharmacy. People's is promoting this stuff as a valid alternative to treating real diseases. Most people don't have time or energy to question a person in a white coat telling them that a product will help. And most people don't have time to research the history or basis for homeopathy. The idea of a more natural remedy may appeal to many. But this is just a scam that won't go away. People's Pharmacy is selling placebos while making a hefty profit on people's credulity, people who may forego proper treatment. People's, please reconsider your attachment to homeopathy, consider how pharmaceutical companies have to demonstrate efficacy with double blind placebo controlled testing. Homeopathy on your shelves and espoused by your employees is an injustice to your customers and to the scientific method. read more

No matter how far North I may live in Austin, my pharmacy of choice will always be this People's location. I've been a customer since '99, and I guess I've always taken their great customer service for granted, until I recently tried a Walgreen's up in Round Rock because it was closer to work. Not that Walgreen's was particularly bad, it just couldn't compare. At People's, they value you as a customer, and genuinely want to help you live a healthier life. Whether it be in the healthy food they serve, the holistic / alternative medicines they provide, or the pharmacists that make sure you know all about the prescription you're taking and the effects it may have on you. The pharmacy counter staff are friendly and always make sure I'm taken care of. The front counter / food servers are equally friendly and helpful, and their baked goods are plentiful, tasty, and locally made. Yes, People's will always be my favorite drug dealer in Austin. read more

There seems always be an issue with customer service at this location. This review is only about customer service. Staff just isn't as well trained in the art of customer service. It is almost like the Lakeline store belongs to another company. Night and day between the two. I always have questions when looking for a particular product I have used before or i am looking for a new one. Floor staff doesn't seem to have a great deal of knowledge or desire to answer simple questions. For the second time recently I watched the pharmacy staff eat as the filled Rxs behind the counter at the central store. Really? The health department doesn't allow this in restaurants during food prep but its okay here? One time staff was scarfing house made breakfast tacos and the next time it was French fries. Very off putting especially given all the 'issues' with compounding pharmacies in other parts of the country. I am a loyal long time customer, but sometimes it is so much easier and less frustrating ordering products on line. read more

This place rocks. Not only does it have a full pharmacy with natural and medicinal drugs of all kinds, but they have a really friendly and knowledgeable staff. ( Many times the docs are on call and you can talk to them right there.) If your taking a medicine you have to slowly withdraw from, they can cut tablets smaller and smaller for you to make the process a less stressful one. Ina strange twist, they have a fully operational deli sort of thing attached to the pharmacy. ( Which makes for a pretty strange odor, food and medicine, which is the only downside.) The deli makes a pretty damn good low carb muffin.They also have some other bakery type things and salads and such. All in all, if you are in Central Austin, check out this People's Pharmacy. Michelle C's review is spot-on, but 5-star places deserve attention. So, coming up: more info for those of you really into 5-star drug stores. People's' pharmacists know of what they speak. Then there's the other clerk-folk who if they don't know the answer to a question about stuff on their shelves, will ask and/or fetch a pharmacist. Or a chiropractor. Or a nutritionist. Or possibly a naturopath. People's employs those folks too, if you dig em. People's is also a 'compounding' pharmacy, which is not a common feature of the average U.S. pharmacy, if you did not know. This means they can make different mixtures, doses, suspensions, etc of drugs that manufacturers may not ordinarily sell to you. Or perhaps make a time-released dose of something that isn't normally sold that way (I think). They even have a glass partition that lets you see them in there in their clean-room scrubs making preparations with mortars n' pestles all CSI-style. In addition to all the remedies they carry as a pharmacy, they also have the built-on build-your-food-to-order deli, which normally also serves smoothies and coffee. Their sandwiches (+ gluten-free bread, yay) - whilst on your standard-bread-size slices, are typically hUGE. Not quite as big as NYC-deli-huge, but pretty damn big, with a bunch of fixins for around $6. There are some things at People's that are marked up above what I'd normally pay even at Whole Foods, I presume as a convenience, but if I needed a tincture of yak oil in a pinch and didn't want to burn gas down to WF, well, it's right there if you need it. People's: Live long, and prosper. And gimme an extra pickle. read more

I love this place. It is what it is. It's a natural and holistic haven, with possibilities you don't find in your everyday pharmacy. I actually wish they had some sort of little sitting/table area here as I would probably hang out and read all the relevant free magazines you can pick up there - plus their coffee is really good. Honestly, if it wasn't for Peoples, I am not sure where I would get my dog's medication from. The concept of Peoples is beyond 5 stars. However, because of the inconsistency of their service, it takes it down a notch. Sometimes they are over the top friendly, helpful and accurate. Other times they are just there. If I ever have to leave Austin, People's is one of the places I would miss the most. These folks have been in Austin for over 25 years and offer much more than your average pharmacy such as compounding prescriptions, holistic medicine, nutritional counseling and two of the three locations have a great little deli. It's a weird combination but it works. Yesterday I had an amazing grass fed roast beef wrap with fresh spinach and tomatoes and some really incredible horseradish sauce. And--no kidding--it was about the size of a small puppy! I ate in my car driving to an appointment while the sauce ran down my chin and arms. I really didn't care. This was pure unbridled joy wrapped in a spinach tortilla! Recently, I found several great products at People's that help fight fatigue and at my request, they now have a non-soy based protein powder. I feel like part of the family. Don't EVER get your prescriptions filled here. I used to love this place, but the management has dragged it down hill in a hurry. Look at my previous review to see what I used to think. They have incorrectly filled my prescription multiple times. They do not accept it if you try to take it back even if it is their mistake. Then, they will YELL at you in the store if you complain. I have never had something so unprofessional happen to me in the middle of a store. NEVER EVER AGAIN. How can you fill the wrong prescription....and then do it again... Then, if you are price conscious at all, don't use this place to fill your meds. I get my meds filled at a different place now for almost 1/5 of the price. The RIP YOU OFF. On top of that. Don't be fooled by the tacos. They use Tia Rosa store-bought tortillas. I noticed when they switched, and I asked. They confirmed. Please people, Jenny's bakehouse isn't even sold anymore. read more

I don't buy any drugs here, just sandwiches. There's a little notepad form up front where you circle what you want on your sandwich. I love that. And they toast it. I love that. People underestimate the power of toasting. And I can get Udi's gluten-free bread. I love that. And I can add avocado. I love that. And they are generous with the turkey - it's all piled up and it's not slimy. The sandwich is so packed with good things and the bread is so crisp, that I have to work around not tearing up the roof of my mouth. I love that.
