One of my favorite meals is the chicken fried steak, mashed potato's, both covered with milk gravy and a side of fried okra. Talk about memories, my mom's is the best. So when we discovered this place, we didn't know if it would match my memories or be another frozen mock up. Walking in, the decor is really country chic, very old school, from the old photo's, the license plates to the lighting. Our server was quick and friendly. We got our food and it was delicious, since my meal didn't come with the fried okra, it was an add on, it came out way before our meal along with the bread, and both was eaten way before the main meal, but, they were hot and I didn't want them to cool off, so we ate. As for the chicken fried steak, the breading was close, but not exact to my mothers, it didn't taste or look like a frozen piece, so it was one the best, chunky, breading, golden brown, tender steak. Had lunch here today. Used to love this place. Unfortunately this will be our last time making the trek up there from Mesa. Our host/waiter apparently has not done that type of job before. No personality, never came back and checked on us. My husband enjoyed his chicken fried chicken. Wish I could say the same for the prime rib. It was way over cooked, burnt on the ends and tough. No pink in the middle, no juice, and so thin you couldn't tell it was prime rib. The potatoes were very dry, too. Like they had been sitting around for hours. The only saving grace was the onion rings on top. Very tasty. But man cannot live on onion rings alone! It was so good when the original owners were there. read more

One of the best Prime Ribs in the Valley not to mention the very best Chicken Fried Steak anywhere. Plus the service is outstanding.

I have come here for years, love the place, but the quality has gone a bit up and down. My last couple of visits, I was extremely happy. The prime rib was excellent and the chicken fried steak was good again! It had deteriorated to being a thin, nasty piece of meat with too much breading. But it was back! Unfortunately, we went there last week and wanted steak. Although in the past, I had tended not to order steak here, I thought, "what the heck." The ribeye was expensive, but I thought it would be a nice piece of meat. It wasn't. It was a very thin cut and not tender. Or flavorful. Plus, I was under the illusion that they would cook it on a grill. They didn't. It was pan fried. All in all, for the money, it was not a good meal. I can still recommend this place for the prime rib, chicken fried steak, the chicken fried chicken, But I have some questions after getting three rather poor ribeye steaks. I will be back and let's hope this was an aberration. But $35 for a bad steak seems a real waste. And the first time, our waitress was less than great. Abrupt. A little rude. What a great find! I was in the area visiting friends and we talked about getting a chicken fried steak. This place appears to have been around a long time. I started with a house salad...nothing special but was a nice serving. The lettuce was crisp and it had ample tomatoes. Next was the chicken fried steak that was breaded perfect and a very large portion. It was served with real mashed potatoes and everything was covered in white cream gravy. It's a huge monster, with a crispy double dipped batter layer encasing a beautiful tenderized steak, smothered with a beautiful white gravy. Without a doubt TEXAZ Grill has the best chicken fried steak in the Phoenix area, perhaps even Arizona! Portions are huge too! The dinner portion actually gives you two steaks while the lunch portion gives you one. The coleslaw and mashed potatoes on the side were huge as well. I don't understand the hype behind this place. The interior looks like it's from 1987, complete with the duct tape holding the booth upholstery together. The silverware is flimsy, cafeteria-grade to boot. Service is atrocious. Dined here twice, equally disappointed in the quality and portions. This place never disappoints. The staff is friendly and efficient. They will make you laugh and feel as is you are apart of the family. I had the Chicken fried steak, warning I would get the single serving , otherwise you will get two and it takes up to 2/3 of the plate, stacked. It comes with a small side salad, just your generic salad. Mashed potato's and it is all smothered in a milk gravy, very southern. I was craving for country fried steak and drove to this restaurant to fulfill it. As you enter the restaurant you will notice the hats, license plates, nostalgic Texas decoration. It feels like you've been transformed into a Texas country bar. We were immediately greeted by the hostess and sat down inside of a booth. The menu is right side up on the table. Inside the menu are comfort foods to order such as, chicken fried steak, fried okra, steak and burgers. Of course, I ordered the chicken fried steak with the gravy on the side; it was so delicious. Well, 2nd trip to TEXAZ grill to try the smoked prime rib. OMG, it was awesome! The bark was just right and the smokey flavor was in every bite. It was served in a platter swimming in an ample amount of delicious au jus. The meat was juicy, tender throughout, and cooked just right. I asked for horseradish and later felt bad for not eating it.....the prime rib was soooo good, I just wanted to savor every bite of meat without the horseradish! TEXAZ grill will now be my go-to for prime rib. It's well worth the trip from Surprise where we live. Go early before they run out - the prime rib is popular. read more

I was introduced to this place years ago by two good friends that are regulars. I have not been back until two relatives from the Midwest were craving a down low place for a good steak *boom it clicked. From the outside to the inside you are in dive city but inside it is one of those places with everything stuck to the wall, every square inch and it's kind of cute. Service was good can't complain and when we were ordering I decided to go big or go home (chicken fried steak) when our server asked if I wanted a full order or a half order I was like "pssssh I'm a grown man give me a full!" OMG when it came out it was an unassuming huge piece of CFS with delicious gravy and flavorful potatoes and I wasn't paying attention until my friend looked over and said "there is another huge piece under that one" upon inspection I had an entire meal under my meal = full order. Half of it was just as delicious reheated the next day. Huge portions, unpretentious and a delicious ultimate splurge! I left hungry, heart broken and very disappointed. I absolutely love chicken fried steak so of course I wanted to try their's. It's a cute spot without a doubt. There is so much to look at inside. Buttttt it took my boyfriend and I a while to get seated and our simple cup of chili and "Bubba's special" which consisted of eggs, biscuit & gravy and chicken fried steak never made it to our mouths! I'll start with the service, I sat at the bar today, lovely young lady who was very engaged and determined to make my first experience here a lasting memory... she succeeded. I ordered a drink and discussed menu options with her, I landed on the trio of fried meats, cfk, cfc, and cfp however I hate chicken so I asked to substitute for an additional piece of cfp. I wasn't in to the sides as I really don't like potatoes or vegetables (yes I am a fat person who loves meat) so she suggested a double order of salad, I declined thankfully as the salad she brought out was more than I could eat in a week. The salad was old school style, not that thick ass nasty dressing, appropriate consistency and very tasty, I actually ate more than I expected. Then she brought the fried meats, now typically I go gravy in the side but I got distracted and forgot to add this to my order, but the gravy was so good it didn't matter. They pounded the cfk and breaded it to order, I assume the same for the cfp. Outstanding in crunch, tenderness, quality and flavor. Absolutely delicious. This place is hilarious. We went on Sunday night at 8, the kitchen closes at 9 even though they say they are open to 10, they said they can't control YELP, HEY YELP, THEY CLOSE AT 9 ON SUNDAYS!! The food is authentic Texas, fried and then fried again. None of us tried the chicken fried steak because we forgot our Lipitor. Had fried chicken, beef brisket, and the rib eye all were ok, mashed potatoes were probably better earlier in the day. Nothing to flavorful except I did like the coke slaw and the biscuits. It's probably more fun at peak times when your waitress isn't running on fumes. I can't believe I've never written a review on Texaz Grill! I've been many times over the years, including Christmas Eve a couple years ago w my family. Anyway, back to the food. There are a lot of reviews and I don't want to be repetitive, So I will attempt to summarize those attributes that contribute to my five star rating. #1: the food - The food is consistently excellent. While I haven't had everything on the menu, I've had quite a few items and they never disappoint. One of my favorite things to order is a large portion of prime rib dinner for takeout. Also the chicken fried steak is another takeout favorite. I had the chicken fried steak tonight and it was perfect when I got it home- crunchy and hot. #2: the service - The service is always friendly and efficient. I've never had an empty iced tea cup, they've made great menu recommendations. #3: they are accommodating- they are nice about modifications. I had the Brazos Burrito made as a salad, gotta love me a brisket salad! #4: generous portions - I always have enough left over for another meal. Every time I visit, we always see something we didn't notice before and strikes up some unique conversation. I always (and probably forever) order the Chicken Fried Steak! Let's say that this is homestyle cooking. The food was ample in portion but needs a little lift. The salad is very basic and bland. Needs a little color and flavour. There was not a lot of excitement from the start. I was craving a great steak and I had never been here before. The Ribeye (My favorite cut) was lacking in the quality of the beef. It tastes like grocery store Holstein and looked like it when it cooked up too. The meal covered my hunger bit I felt this place could be so much better with just a little tweeking. The decor I loved and it screams Texas. It was fun to read the articles and see all of the hats hanging from the ceiling. As always, I may have just caught it on an off day. I'm new to.the Phoenix area and Texaz Grill like many other eateries are in walking distance from where I live so I ordered take out so I can.have a relaxing movie night. I ordered the chicken fried steak, fried okra and mash potatoes. It came with a salad and a biscuit. When I went to pick it up I was checking out the look of the establishment it's really neat. Biz cards on the ceiling, I'm mean its covering the just about the entire ceiling, baseball caps repping Tx and so many other great souvenir pieces The next time I will go in and eat to take pics of the nice establishment. I saw on the menu they have liver onions so I definitely want to try that. Every once in awhile I want a good meal. I will return Texaz Grill. The chicken fried steak was very tasty along with the okra and mash. Sald was good with the mustard vinaigrette dressing. This was my take out box.ill be eating on this for the next 4 days.
