Came for the Pizza Puff, stayed for the Gyros and Chicken Tenders! My boyfriend is a Chicago transplant and has talked up these Pizza Puffs for a while now. I finally caved and tried out Tex's last night. The Pizza Puff was a more delicious version of a pizza flavored hot pocket. The Gyro was very flavorful and the chicken tenders were huge! The food is great at Tex's Star. My favorite is the Reuben sandwich, but the menu is varied and I haven't seen one bad thing.

When you're really hungry and in a "fat grams be damned" kind of mood, this is a great place to go. They offer a diverse menu with lots of classics - burgers, steak & cheese, Reuben, Italian Beef, kabobs, etc. The Chicago vibe in North Richland Hills, Texas is a bit incongruent, but fun. Everything is delicious, generous and authentic, as far as I can tell. If you normally "eat clean" be cautious. The gastrointestinal consequences of overindulgence can be...significant. read more

This place is sooo good! I ate a Greek Salad with pita and it was the best Greek salad I've had! My husband had a Gyro and he told me it was super tasty! The tzatziki's sauce is also so yummy, the dressings are homemade (yum!) and the owners were the sweetest with us. We also ate their baklava, yummy! It was delicious!!! Pro Food BIG Con Price Not quite like home but close as we've found. Much pricier than back home too. They stated it was expensive to have it shipped down here. We had the gyro and a Chicago Dog w/ fries. The dog was topped as it should be but the casing on the hot dog is different than what you'd find at Portillo's. Very good food here. Their health score is 100 out of 100 owner is always there very friendly helping clean or whatever, but still has time to stop and chat. Safe spacing for covid workers wear mask and plenty hand sanitizer. Gun owners with permit welcome here is a plus for me. Love there flame grilled burgers not fond of their special sauce though leave that off. At the condiment area load up on ketchup and mustard for the burger and fries. Gyro is excellent seasoned meat and cucumber sauce and fillings in gyro is hard to beat. Yesterday got two quarter pound burgers one fry and two soda drinks little over 16$. Quarter pounder fills me and wife up they do have much bigger burgers if you are really hungry. read more

I Had to change my review from 4 star to 5 stars, this place is just the bees knees. This place is a local gem and after many many MANY visits my little family keeps coming back and very happy with the food. My kids adore this place, they are 3+5 years old and often come dressed in princess and fire fighter costumes. My kids love seeing all the cops and firefighters in the restaurant and they get to see the firetrucks often too. We are from NY, my uncle is a retired NYC officer and my Grandpa and another uncle are retired firefighters, my gpa always says if you ever see the firetruck in front of a restaurant (not in an emergency obviously) it means the food is good tasting and a good value, this advice has stuck with me my whole life and when I see a place with a truck in front I put it on my "want to try" list. This place always has firetrucks, police cars, SWAT cars and so on, from all different cities! That alone should tell you how good it is but if your on the fence let me go on... My family of four goes often, we buy the double burger with a large Fry/onion ring combo for my husband and myself to split and we buy one Jr. Cheeseburger meal (plus one extra drink) for the kiddos to split. It is the perfect amount of food for us. The burgers are always good but I have a weakness for the onion rings and house sauce (I don't actually know what they call their sauce but its a delicious mix that is so dang good). My kids eat all their food here and this is my sons absolutely favorite restaurant. My husband and I have tried several of the burgers but ultimately we just like the classic cheeseburger so we tend to stick with that, It is absolutely worth trying multiple. The owner is very kind and you can tell he takes pride in his restaurant, you often find him in the dining room making sure the restaurant is up to his standards. There is a very tall man who works most days (at least 6'5) and he is awesome as well, he is always busting his bum cleaning and running food. In fact, I see these two more than anyone else up here, I think they only go home to sleep and come right back :) I joke but truly, they are hard workers and you can see their efforts are consistent. There is a shorter/thin gentleman with dark brown hair who is also a really hard worker, he's always helping in the dining room and very kind with the kids. MY daughter dropped a twist on earing and he found it in the dining room and walked around until he found the table that was missing it (us). We really appreciated that as my grandmother (96yo) gave those to my daughter. They cost her nothing but they mean everything to us so we greatly appreciate his kindness. As a mother I appreciate how clean this restaurant is, the bathrooms are always clean, the booths are always clean, the kitchen is partly open and you can see they keep that clean as well. Makes me feel great about feeding this food to my kids. Real meat, and supports a great company with excellent employees. read more

We eat here a couple times a month and the food is great. Hubby always gets the Beef Kabob dinner and I get the got dog combo, add sauerkraut. My complaint is how much they are charging for sauerkraut on a hot dog! Used to be 75 cents, then 99 cents. Came in today and it was $1.99! We have been going here since it opened at least once a month. We've tried almost everything here. The fries, onion rings, Greek salad, hamburgers, chili fries, gyros, kabobs, and many other options are great. The chicken fried chicken wasn't very good tonight and is ok at best most of the time so I threw most of it away this time. The regular cheese cake was no good. It looked like it didn't even come from an actual cake, was tiny, and had a funny taste. I took two small bites and threw it away. We will be back and this is still one of our favorite restaurants. The staff is polite also but I don't understand why they make you park to bring your food out even when no one is in line. We would definitely recommend eating here. read more

I can't believe it's taken me this long to write a review. So let's get this started. First off, I really do like this place. They do a good job with the Chicago foods I have sampled, mainly the hot dogs and the Italian beef, and not so Chicago Philly cheese steaks. I will confess, on the Texas scene this is a five star experience, but on the world stage, the Italian beef is not quite 5 star. Don't get me wrong, it's good, but it's not as "good as it gets" (five star Yelp description). I'm tempted to add a star for friendly service, but when the food is so near and dear to my heart, I've got to make the rating about the food. Our major complaint is the quantity of beef on the sandwiches. Now this may be a delicate balance between what people are willing to pay and what a restaurant can charge, but when I buy a beef, I want it piled high with BEEF. Both of our sandwiches, an Italian beef and a cheese-steak, were just a bit short on the beef for this not to be factored into the rating. Other than that, the flavor is good. I would have liked more giardiniera, and the bread seemed a bit on the soft side, but all in all, not a bad sandwich. There were a lot of tempting cheesecakes in the case, but I will save those for next time. And there will be a next time, as I get the occasional gyro craving, I think Tex's will be able to pull that one off too. Nice, large, indoor dining room, with TVs. Also a nice outdoor dining area. Drive though window in also and option. Bottom line: Great place to get a Chicago culinary craving itch scratched. read more

The restaurant was closing in 15 minutes (we didn't) realize and they still took our full order and cooked it fresh! The restaurant was clean; employees were friendly, and the owner came out to greet us and talked to us. Nice man, great restaurant and even better was the food. BEST hamburger we've had in years! This is another great Mom and Pop joint in Watauga, TX. This place makes burgers that are really fresh. I know this place has a Chicago flare to it and you can get all kinds of other stuff. My favorite thing to get here is a Corned Beef on Rye. I add some spicy mustard and a pickle spear and I am happy. Ok, maybe add a root beer and call it a happy meal. Don't have to travel to enjoy this one. The owner still walks through the dining room daily greeting costumers. And, it is clean. Two weeks ago I witnessed a late afternoon training session from one young guy to a younger guy and they moved tables out of the way and swept and mopped half of the store. I did not mind at all. Tex's Star Grill holds a special place in my heart. I believe I've been visiting the restaurant for around twenty years at this point. That is, I believe I've been coming since I was about 3 or 4 years old. I'm turning 23 in a few months. Despite my family both moving from the area, as well as my own move away for University, I still make a point to drop by here and eat. Anyways, the food and service has consistently been top-notch. I've had most of the items on the menu, and enjoyed them all, however the burgers and gyros are by far my favorite. The employees are always quite amicable, and my family has been acquainted with the owner for some years now; he's very friendly, runs his business with skill, and has more than once catered small school and work events for me and my family. The restaurant is always well kept, and the environment is welcoming and family friendly. The older photos of food from the menu and gyro posters around the place are a nice touch.
