We checked back in every 30, each time they said "just a little while longer" It took 2 HOURS TO GET OUR TAKEOUT. No sense of urgency, no real apology besides "we're busy tonight". I wonder if they prioritize delivery services who maybe keep them accountable on how long they take? If covid or what ever slows you down, at least give a more accurate time estimate, and maybe throw in a free side or add a discount? Food was ok. Won't be eating here again. Finally a consistent, reasonably priced, healthy (only if you want it to be!) dinner spot in Montclair Village. Some of the freshest sashimi my husband and I have had in a while. Friendly staff, delicious rolls for those who aren't sushi purists (hi!), and a nice Sake selection. This place has amazing sushi and rolls! Their menu has so many different kinds of rolls, and all of them are delicious! Also, the price is relatively cheap, and they give really generous portions! My family got the Omakase B, Peter's Special roll and Mr. Netscreen roll. Definitely ordered way too much because the portions were so big! Everything was fresh and delicious, and this has got to be my new favorite sushi place! They are only doing takeout and delivery right now for COVID, but I'm excited to try dining in when it opens! Pro tip: for takeout, order on their website or call in rather than order on third party apps like grubhub/yelp cuz the prices are way cheaper (Omakase B on grubhub was $80 and on their website it was $70). Pretty disappointed with TGI Sushi. We ordered to go, with a dynamite roll, rainbow roll, spicy tuna hand roll, cherry blossom roll, and mixed tempura. The Dynamite roll was extremely soggy, and we could even make out what type of meat was inside. The rainbow roll and hand roll were both mediocre, also a bit soggy, and some of the rainbow roll toppings were rubbery. The staff had told me they had to substitute albacore tuna for the cherry blossom roll, and it wasn't good either. We ate about 1/4 of everything and threw the rest out. The tempura was fine, and the staff was nice, otherwise this would be a 1 star review. Not a great way to spend $75. read more

This restaurant has the most genuinely kind servers and sushi chefs I've met and their rolls are so delicious too! Still the best sushi restaurant I have been to for the food, even our cats prefer oni sushi over other places (they have very distinguishing tastes :). They still give very generous portions of fresh fish. However I have to take away 1 star because every time we go, the service never goes smoothly. At the most recent visit, we got our sushi, but no soy sauce dishes. We waited a few minutes for the soy sauce dishes but finally I got up to go ask for some. They have call buttons in the wall but it don't think they work. I didn't like looking at that delicious sushi and not being able to eat it! Then we waited for the bento box, the table next to us who came 20min after ours got theirs first. Called and asked the server if the bento was still coming. Bento came eventually but didn't come with the roll. The servers always seem confused and they gave the table next to us the wrong order. The table next to ours got their check first and so we asked for ours too. Finally check came, no pen lol. My fiancée went to go search for a pen at the front, couldn't find one and asked the server for one. Bottom line-love the food and will keep coming back, but don't go if you're in a hurry. Be prepared for slow service and many mistakes. read more

We've had dinner here a few times pre-SIP and enjoyed it, but the takeout we got last night was inedible. The sashimi had a weird thick texture and smelled and tasted like ammonia. Is this what happens to bad raw fish? If restaurants can't get fresh fish now, they should stop serving sashimi, for safety if nothing else. read more

Okay, have been going to Kabuki and Kotobuki Jr. for years. Both are easily walkable and good options for sushi. Kabuki can be a bit on the pricey side, but great grill and food options. Kotobuki is just solid and never disappoints for well-priced sushi. Went to Oni for our younger daughter's bday (her request) and couldn't have been more impressed. Ambiance (compared to the older Oni) is warm and inviting, service is fantastic, but the offerings can't be beat. I think i found my new go-to sushi joint. read more

The food was ready on time and well packaged, so that it stayed hot for the drive home. I got the salmon teriyaki lunch, which came with soup, salad, dressing, and rice in addition to a larger serving of fish. It really felt like a full meal. Thanks for the excellent sushi AND service. I ordered via DoorDash. Stopped by on way home with 2 hangry kids. My order was accidentally taken by a DoorDash driver. Ok, it happens. They rushed a replacement order in 10 minutes and brought it out to the car. Get the order home and it's missing an item. I call, annoyed. They offer and bring the item to my house.
