EE Sane is long - I've been coming here for nearly 30 years now - one of MKE's best Thai places. They do curries and stir-fries equally well. The Yum Nua is always fabulous. The best pad thai I've had in Milwaukee!! I've been to a few places in MKE and this is hands down the best one I've had. The ratio of noodles to sauce to spice and extras - fantastic! It was enough to split between 2 for lunch. The eggrolls were also very yummy. The service was quick even though it was a busy lunch hour on a Friday. The place is beautifully decorated. We've been here a handful of times throughout the years, but tonight we did takeout and I finally had to leave a review! Everything we've had has been delicious! The curry especially took us back to when we vacationed in Thailand. For takeout tonight we ordered the red curry with chicken (spice level 4) and drunken noodles with pork (spice level 3), and both had a nice kick without being overwhelming, which was perfect for being someone who can't handle too much. We were excited to try this restaurant as we heard a lot of praises from locals and it was also recently remodeled. However we experienced sub-par service as we had to wait an extra hour on top of our reservation. Once we were seated and ordered, the food took an additional hour to arrive. The food itself was pretty good. I got the red curry which was delicious and portion size was large. Excellent Thai/Lao food! We rolled in with 4 adults and 2 kids and zero reservation a few hours before the Wisconsin State Fair. They were slammed but they still found us a table within a couple minutes after first saying 30 minutes (yay!). Service was slow since they were clearly understaffed, but staff stayed attentive with drinks and water. The food was absolutely worth the wait! The Shumai were huge and filling, loved by both the kids and adults. The Masaman Curry Beef was tasty with just the right spice. But the star was the Pork Larb. It was bright, tangy, perfectly seasoned, and unforgettable. I even had the leftovers for breakfast the next morning. Overall: slower service, but excellent food. The larb alone makes it worth coming back. I really enjoyed the newly remodeled ee sane! The ambiance and vibes were good. Perhaps could have used louder music (or was there no music?) but still enjoyed the space. Service was very kind and attentive. They do air on the side of not bothering you/checking in a Ton and the food does take a bit to come out, which I personally appreciate for a dinner with friends but may bother some people. The food and flavors were amazing! The portions and price were fantastic. I highly recommend the curry, tea, and fresh spring rolls. The presentation of the hot tea was exceptional. Stopped by after a museum visit, craving some Thai food, and this spot didn't disappoint! The service was good, and I really enjoyed the open, authentic Thai-inspired decor. The Thai iced tea, served with milk, was exactly what I was craving - delicious! We ordered dishes with different spice levels (3.5 and 4 stars), though I think they might have been switched. Next time, I'd go with the full 4 stars, as it had a nice kick but wasn't too spicy. We tried the Tom Yum soup with chicken, which was packed with flavor - always a favorite of mine at Thai restaurants. We also had the chicken pad thai, shumai appetizer, white rice, and beef. The beef was a bit salty and slightly over-fried, but the chicken pad thai and shumai were really tasty. Overall, a good experience, and I'd definitely return to try more dishes! read more

Exploring halal restaurant week in Milwaukee and EE San delivered. Everything was excellent from the tum yum soup, to the best egg rolls I've ever had. Seriously I've never seen egg rolls without bubbles before it was special. And for the main course the lava dish with steak, this was really good but the beef a little tough towards the end pieces but still absolute fire. Speaking of fire... I'm always craving Thai so i'm glad that this place is 1) delicious and also 2) close to me! Great portions, delicious food, and awesome staff! It's tough to find a Thai food spot around Milwaukee, but I think EE-Sane Thai Cuisine is a decent compromise for the lack of Thai cuisine. Be prepared to parallel park somewhere around busy downtown Milwaukee streets and keep your eyes peeled for the spot because it's quite hole in the wall. Our table ordered a ton of plates of food, and those that ordered meat-based meals shared the consensus that the meat was well cooked through, but lacked balanced portions of meat + veggies + curry/rice/noodles. Vegetable delight: The meal was a very simple mix of vegetables and noodles. Not sure if it lived up to the "delight." It lacked a clean palette of spices, the vegetables were pretty raw and not super cooked through, so the noodles and vegetables felt incredibly separate from each other to be a hearty meal. When I order a plate of vegetable stir-fried anything, I generally look for a complement of flavors, vegetables, and noodles/rice that blend together in their flavors and how cooked through they are with the spices. This location just missed the mark on that. The service was where I had to cut a couple stars. We arrived and had a party of about 8 to 9 people and with that comes a hustle and bustle of chatter. Our waiter came over to tell us to quiet down which we understandably did, until a few minutes later, we hear a set of two other tables chat quite loudly, a child start screaming, and the combination of the two was as 'loud' as our group had been to which the waiter who was also serving those tables did nothing to quiet them down. When it came to the checks, we were overcharged for our meals, waited an hour for our food to come out, two of us had to ask for extra vegetables because some of our plates were more noodles than vegetables. Maybe this was an off day for the restaurant, but I haven't been back since. Would recommend this place for a Thai food spot if you're looking, but at your own discretion, cheers! read more

The food was great. Started with the very flavorful pork dumplings. Order of 6 split 3 ways. We all loved them. I tried the pork larb as Lao food is harder to find. You order the level of spiciness. I picked level two. The spice in this dish is more sharp than sweat inducing. The rice that comes in a cute blue and white bowl smooths it out. The cabbage that comes on the side is meant to be used as a roll up which I didn't realize. The service was a bit slow, party of 6. Dishes came out of the kitchen in waves. Some difficulty getting to separate checks. Everyone enjoyed their fare and commented on the fair portions. 5 took home leftovers. One very confusing thing. There is another ee sane 3 blocks away. We went there first and were late joining our party. There is going to be constant confusion about this. Really dopey. read more

With the ice cold weather, my boyfriend and I had a craving for some spicy Thai food. It was our first time dining there. Thanks to the cold, parking was easy. When we entered the restaurant, there were several occupied tables. We thought it was a good sign that this place was worth the trip in this weather. After we were seated, it was evident that the heat wasn't working. Several space heaters were scattered around the room and it was still cold. The server said it was probably because it wasn't crowded. (I later discovered as we were walking out that the front window was smashed and the plywood they had in front of it barely covered the opening.) Service was a little slow, but friendly. First, we had some pork eggrolls. They were good, although I thought the sweet and sour sauce tasted different. My boyfriend said it tasted like ginger was in it which he didn't mind. I prefer the regular sweet and sour. My boyfriend's main entree was the chicken paneng curry at spice level 3. I had the shrimp pad thai at spice level 3 - or as our server called it "medium." The paneng curry was delicious. I think the coconut milk helped with the spice. White rice also helped balance out the flavors. My dish, however, was so spicy that I only managed a few bites. Note to self, always start with mild and then add spice!!! They were kind enough to re-do it for me to take home. The shrimp was a decent size and tasted fresh. I had to remind our server about our drinks - my boyfriend's beer and my hot tea (which was pre-sweetened - yuck). This wouldn't normally bug me, but I was cold and there was only one other table occupied in that place. Overall, the food was decent, service was ok, and ambiance needs a lot of work (cover that window!!!). Not sure if I will return, especially with other options in the Milwaukee area. read more

Been going here for years and I was so waiting to go back. But I live way across town so when I saw they now deliver in my area via Grubhub and was so excited! I love their red curry...better than any I've ever had anywhere. I was expecting it to be awhile because of the distance and the time of day but that is fine. I ordered 7* spicy (even I can rarely do the 10!). So the bad part...thedriver picked it up and spent an HOUR randomly driving around not even approaching my house. That is NOT the restuarant's fault, so I am not saying that's on them. However, when the obviously high dude finally showed up I saw that the restaurant forgot to include the rice. And lucky me, I was out of rice! After quite a discussion with grubhud they refunded me and I had a frozen pizza. Fast forward to today. I bought rice (how did i run out?), reheated the curry...why has it been so long??? Definitely still the best! So while they forgot the rice I still have to give them good ratings. Also, 7* usually made me feel it a bit, but not so much this time. Don't get me wrong, goos spice and my tolerance is way above most people, but their spice was usually well above other restuarants. Maybe they scaled it back, but the taste was absolutely amazing! I can't wait to actaully get to the restaurant again but it's 20 plus minutes to get there. EE sane is back! They had moved for a while during renovations but they are back in their original location. Got the Tom Kha soup medium spicy and it was...quite spicy! My nose was running a bit. This is our go-to take out Thai place. When dining is open, we'll be in for dinner! The Tom kar soup is perfect - so many mushrooms, broccoli, and other veggies along with a perfectly creamy broth. I appreciate the ability to choose a level of spicy from 1-10. My American palate loves a gentle kick - often opting for a level 2 (for Tom kar soup) or 3 (for red curry), which is perfect to me. HOLY SPICY! I read the reviews before picking my dish and lemme tell you, people were not exaggerating. I split the red curry with a level 3 spice. I could not finish it, but my friend powered through. If I did not have a low spice tolerance I would have enjoyed it more because the curry itself was so flippin good. The flavor composition was well rounded, sweet and bold with a spicy finish. I definitely would come again but probably order a 0 or 1 spice. We also split the spring rolls to start. The peanut sauce was soooooo yummy. The spring roll itself was mid.... more of a vehicle to eat the sauce. Service was great and the ambiance was fine, nothing to write home about tho. This is some of the better Thai I've found in the area. I ordered takeout for the first time from them a couple weekends ago. I will say that the process was a little confusing, took a long time, and it's unclear when going in to the restaurant where to pick it up. I noticed there were delivery drivers waiting (and annoyingly so with their cell phones on playing music or videos??). You have to be careful with the spice though, as I got 3-4/10 for spice and my mouth was on fire the first time I ordered their pad thai.
