tasted like greasy Chinese food. The Thai flavours were not there, we ordered Phad Thai and Green Curry- both inedible. Yuk.

After being a customer for 9+ years at this location, I am sad to say I will not be ordering or dining in this restaurant again. I am appalled and can't believe what has just transpired with the "manager" at the 18th street location. I called and placed my order for delivery. As I later learned the manager was the person who took my order. He asked me if I wanted a large. I replied ,"yes". When the order arrived it was incorrect and I called to inform the restaurant. They said I needed to talk to the manager. The manager, who is the person that took the order said "your a liar" "you did not order large". Then he said, "I want my food back". WOW!!!! After owning several different businesses in several different industries over the last 20+ years I don't recall my people training managers that this is the way to run a successful business. Well because, it is NOT! The driver was very apologetic and had me sign a slip to void the sale. The problem with this is that the void sale did not include the tip that I gave the driver the first time he was here. Not his fault. He is the just the driver. Maybe he should run the joint. In a nut shell, I paid $3.00 (tip) wasted 30 minutes waiting for food and was called a liar by the manager. What a treat. read more

Thai hot is not even medium. Kung pao didn't contain peanuts. Delivered fast. But overall, not good.

I love this place. Granted I'm pretty simple; orange chicken, fried rice, and some wontons will do it for me. But the food always comes out hot, and tastes delicious! I've had a very hard time finding good Asian food, but I've come here a few times and haven't been disappointed! read more

I have a love/hate relationship with Thai Basil. Why are you so fickle, mocking me so? I want to like this place. Good location, nice decor, food is usually quite good . . . provided you are at a table . . . if you dare order takeout all bets are off. Seriously, I think they have a mutant relative locked in a back room preparing the takeout orders from leftovers and trash. Dinner at the restaurant and what they bring to you in a paper bag are completely different. Wilted greens with slime on them can be overlooked once or twice, but when it happens constantly you know the mutant pulled those greens out of the trash bin. I love the potstickers here . . . when their regular chefs fry them up in the wok and bring them to the table. They are delicious. Do NOT ever order potstickers to be delivered. Apparently, the mutant cannot be trusted with hot oil and open flames, and he will use a light bulb powered EZ Bake Oven to fry them up. TWICE I did receive undercooked potstickers from delivery, and you really do not want to experience a mouthful of raw ground pork. Food at the restaurant is usually quite good, although the nasty old lady glaring at us isn't very endearing. Do not order delivery from Thai Basil . . . or suffer the wrath of the mutant!!! Great lunch! I was impressed with the fast food service and great food for the price. Two of us ate for around $12 bucks! Yum! We had the eggplant basil and vegie basil and it was delish! The service was a bit confusing when we first got into the place because it looked like they were a bit short staffed for the weekend. read more

My compAnion and I live a few blocks away. Recently we returned have been very pleased with service, quality and quantity of food at lunch or dinner. The great thing about free enterprise is we each can form our own opinion. We returned almost weekly even for my 70th birthday.We particularly like the vegetables. Unlike many oriental restaurants they know that a huge quantity broccoli is not enough to qualify as vegetable. We have recommended their duck to 3 other people all of who have returned and they still speak to us. Also while they have "hot" menu items the taste in my mouth is warm and sweet not over powering. I do love their vegetables crunchy not overcooked soggy and the onions are wonderful. We have eaten their 6 times not disappointed and those we recommend Thai Basil like also. We are very satisfied with the consistency and quality of food here. They have outdoor patio but no liquor license for there only food. read more

Huge portions and fresh quality Thai. Cannot understand the low rating as we eat here pretty often and have never had a bad experience. I placed an order for delivery with someone named Sean. He told me that I needed to order $25 worth of menu items in order for them to deliver. I ordered $25 worth of food and then asked about the coupon for free wontons with a $25 order. Sean immediately said "We don't deliver to you" and hung up. I called back and he told me that they wouldn't honor the coupon and wouldn't deliver to me. I asked to speak to a manager and Sean said there was no manager. The manager at the Uptown location couldn't be any more rude or worse about etiquette and customer service. We ordered delivery and felt rushed off the phone through our order (which has occurred often when calling up there). This time, as soon as we got off the phone we had a feeling he didn't get the request right. Sure enough, the wrong size was brought to us so we called up there and were given to the manager. The situation was calmly explained yet the manager proceeded to tell us we were wrong and offered no "sorry about that, we'll bring the remaining portion of what you wanted". We would've been willing to pay for the increased size from the small to the large. When we asked for a return then on our order, the manager actually yelled "then I want my food back!". He can have his food and we did give it back when the delivery driver brought us our refund receipt. Seriously?? Is this what food service has come too? We are talking about a few extra dollars and another delivery trip to keep a long-time frequent customer happy. Thai Basil has my business no more. read more

Prices are great here and definitely a good atmosphere for a dinner with friends. The meals are big, prices are good, and they have a special for $0.25 beers as long as you order an entree! There may be other better thai places in town, but I haven't found any of them yet and it definitely meets all of my requirements! read more

A staple! We're regulars for a few reasons: quality, location and price. They really know how to fry tofu and chicken. Their shrimp is fried hard like Friday, but otherwise they make damn good food and the price is right. We take out once a month and haven't been sorry once. read more

The food from this Thai Basil location is flat-out disgusting. Not just one bad food experience, but every time we give-in and agree to give them a try again. We used to live near another Thai Basil location and ordered from them religiously at least once a week for six years. But now we live on this side of town, this last attempt at the 18th Street location is our last time. Everything in my vegetarian "thai basil vegetable" dish came out of a can, and is a weird version of itself. The pad thai did not have any bean sprouts in it, no peanuts, and it was soup-like and weird. Never again. That's it. If you want asian food, even specifically Thai food, do yourself a favor and drive over to Wokano -- or give them a call for delivery. Their food is always good. Sorry Thai Basil, but we've broken-up with you. Many good years in the past, but never again. Yuck! read more

This is my favorite Thai restaurant. I love most dishes and my #1 choice is the Panang. The best panang I have had. Each location of Thai Basil differs in preparation. Some locations I like a lot, and some not so much. I would give them 4 plus stars if they were consistent. read more

I have been a loyal Thai Basil customer for almost 3 years but after my last two delivery orders I will not be ordering again. Not only did they quote me 45 minutes for delivery and show up over 2 hours later, but the entrees were cold and 3/4 full and the spring rolls were hot and falling apart. I thought the first time this happened a month ago it was a fluke since normally they are so quick and taste great, but they have really gone downhill in the past few months and this seems to be the new normal. When I called and asked for a status update they said my driver was on his way and it took another 45 minutes for him to show up and once here, when I asked the driver about it he rolled his eyes and didn't seem to care. read more

My girl friend and I ordered from this place because she was sick and had cravings for Thai flavors. the order was delivered quickly which was a bad sign. The delivery person was unprofessional, he was chewing gum and looked like he just fixed his car. The green curry with fish was too sweet and has potatoes! the lemon grass pork chop was absolutely tasteless. the veggies were dry and dehydrated, they were cut in big chunks you can barely fit in your mouth. I have worked in the uptown area for over ten years and have been a loyal customer here for all these years. They recently moved to the corner and along with the change in location their food seems to have changed too. Entrees that I have always ordered are not the same. I don't know if they changed cooks or recipes, but I am NOT impressed. As a matter of fact today I am pissed with the Lo Mein I ordered. I noticed right away upon opening the container it looked different than usual. Then once I started eating it I could tell it was spaghetti pasta noodles tossed in the brown sauce and NOT lo mein noodles!!! The eggrolls are different (and disgusting)! Way to save money I'm sure. Funny thing is, is right before I went to pick up my food a couple of coworkers were telling me how lately they have been disappointed in the food and that they would no longer order from them. Now I see why and I will also stop ordering here. The prices went up and the quality of the food went WAY DOWN! Save your money. read more

I accidentally called this Thai Basil last night (5pm 10/22/14) and ordered cary out. When I realized I had ordered from the wrong location, I called to let them know. The man answering the phone that night was EXTREMELY rude to me and hung up on me before I could offer to pay for the wasted food. I called back twice after and he claimed his name was "Jon" -- which I have a hard time believing. He treated me as if I was an ungrateful, wasteful, stupid person and I did not appreciate it. He kept repeating to me that he "asked if I knew what location I was calling". He probably did ask, however he spoke so fast and his English was so poor, I did not understand what he said in the first call. We are regulars at our local Thai Basil on Alameda and obviously I made a mistake. I guess the moral is, if this happens to you, don't bother calling to let them know? I could not find any contact info for the Thai Basil management, so I hope they will see this review. read more
