Jaya is one of those places I keep coming back to because there's nothing else like it in Denver! The owner is so passionate about their food, and the menu has an authentic and approachable variety of Malaysian, Singaporean, and Indonesian cooking. The Rendang beef is my fiancés favorite! It's a coconut beef curry/stew that's slow cooked with a rich brown gravy. You can choose your heat level from 0 spice up- I recommend a little spice. The Hainanese chicken is my favorite - it's poached boneless chicken that's super juicy and comes with ginger scallion sauce and creamy coconut rice! We also usually order the roti, char kway teow noodles (they're thick rice noodles with shrimp) or the chili ayam malacca which are thick peanut chicken noodles. I ordered two items ($15.95 and $8.95). Before charging me, the man asked if I needed a receipt. I said no, and then he charged me $32.92. I waited there for my takeout, but the total kept bothering me, so I looked at their menu. When I asked why it was so expensive, he told me that a bowl of white rice costs $5.25. The thing is, I've been ordering this exact meal through DoorDash or Uber Eats almost every month, and the white rice has always come with the meal without any additional charge. I told him I didn't want the rice, and only then did he refund the $5.25. I'm honestly really frustrated. I'm a regular customer and have been ordering from here for a long time, so this experience was pretty disappointing. After I got home, I looked at the reviews on Google and Yelp and noticed that other customers have mentioned similar billing issues. That made the whole situation even more concerning. read more

We were warmly greeted by Ken upon arrival. He told us it is his family's restaurant, and a little of their story. If you want to know, come ask him yourself! I read they have roti canai, so that's what brought us there. It is served as an appetizer at Jaya. I liked it, even if the roti wasn't quite how I've had it before. They don't quite the authentic Malaysian technique down. I've had it as a main dish with chicken other places. Still, the roti was crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside, which was good. The canai sauce was flavorful as well. Ken suggested beef rendang (Indonesian/Malaysian) and char kway teong, a noodle dish from Singapore. Both were very good. Love to have a taste of home. I prefer the non fusion so it was nice to eat here. Kent is friendly and attentive as well. We chose to start with roti canai and then our entrees of beef rendang and char koay teow. The spice levels are on the spicy side so make sure to choose accordingly. He loves the beef rendang. i'm mostly pleasantly surprised denver even has a malaysian restaurant! i was just in malaysia, so perhaps the comparison isnt fair. but i felt like they made a few of substitutions that didnt really hold up the integrity of the dishes. let me go down each item one by one. roti canai-- great. serviceable, seems about right. i think its usually fairly easy to get this one down, but regardless, i had no complaints. satay-- something was up with the condiment. it tasted fine, but it's not the typical satay peanut sauce. it was closer to a peanut butter. and it didnt come with the chopped cucumber and onion bits which often accompany satay. char kuay teow-- i only had a bit of this, but this just felt like a cantonese beef stir fried noodle but with egg. it was still good, just not really char kuay teow. nasi lemak-- this is the main thing from what i ordered. i dont know where to start with this one, but considering this is the national dish of malaysia, it feels strange to get this one so wrong. the sambal was wrong, it should be a darker red and have more onion. the chicken was far too crisp, not really the right kind of preparation for nasi lemak. then the... vegetable stuff? i dont know the name of this, but from what i know, it doesnt belong in nasi lemak. also, it was 50% jalapeño by volume. normally, this would just be straight up cucumber. i feel like this substitution not only makes the dish further away from nasi lemak, it makes it harder to prepare. i cant be too harsh though, coming from a malaysian family in america i know how hard it can be to get the right ingredients for stuff. again, im honestly impressed this place even exists, in denver especially. im grateful it does. the service was amazing, too. our server was very friendly, checked in on us just the right number of times, and was very enthusiastic about our choice of order. the decor is also quite lovely. i'm hoping their regular customer base is less nitpicky than i am about malaysian food. read more

This is one of our absolute favorite restaurants. Delivery is fine; dining in is awesome and the fresh food always tastes best. We always get the steamed fish in the spicy sauce, and despite orange chicken and lo mein being boring dishes that are never worth it at other restaurants, they are amazing here (so worth it). This week we asked the gentlemen who runs the whole thing (it's a small family business) what to order with the fish and he recommended the chinese broccoli with chilis and salted fish. AMAZING. I've been here a few times now. This time around we got to try more things and overall I was happy with the quality of the food. As a Malaysian I'm always looking for a decent Malaysian place. Of all the things I got here were the standout dishes: Beef Rendang (this was recommended as well when we asked). It's tender and cooked well and the flavors are there. The spice level is good and I appreciated the level of attention to make sure it's authentic in flavor and spice as well. Some places try to bring the spice level down to make it more palatable but this one felt right. Kangkung. This is a very common vegetable in Malaysia it's also called water spinach. Char Kuey Teow. I love this dish in general and it's really hard to get it right but this felt like a decent attempt. For me, decent is good enough and is what it's supposed to be. Given the lack of options for Malaysian food around me, I cannot afford to be picky so this hits the spot! Basil fried rice. A Thai dish but nonetheless very good. It had good flavor. The crispy vegetable egg rolls were pretty standard. We got some Vietnamese spring rolls too which were fine. The roti canai is alright. I've had better ones, the curry that comes with it is quite mild. The chicken satay is also just okay. I think the marinade is not bad but could be more robust in flavor. The peanut sauce tastes fine but I found the texture too gummy and paste like. The most disappointing dish to me was actually the Nasi Lemak. The rice didn't have too much coconut flavor and it was also a bit sticky so I didn't enjoy the consistency. The fried chicken that came with it is a nice addition but it also lacks in flavor. I was expecting Malaysian sambal but they used Sambal Terasi which is more Indonesian. Just a personal preference but I wanted authentic and for me without that Sambal, it's not really nasi lemak. Overall I enjoyed it despite some dishes that missed the mark. Will be back again to try more things!! The service is also good and servers are friendly. read more

This restaurant may have to be our secret go to! Living about 5 min away, I pass Jaya every day and after a year and a half, my boyfriend and I finally went. Penang curry is my favorite dish, and it did not disappoint here! It was unique with a lot of veggies and overall delicious. We also had the Mongolian beef that was tasty and tangy. The wings were also delicious with the perfect crisp and sauce to it. In addition to the great food, our server was so kind and honest. He made sure to stop to talk to us and be personable. We came here with some foodie friends who have been before. It's located in a shopping center on Colorado Blvd near I-25 with plenty of parking and a decent sized restaurant. We ordered edamame and hot tea to start. Not sure if they serve alcohol but I'm pretty sure that it does not. We can rested dishes to share and that turned out well. The pad Thai with chicken was delicious. The spicy chicken dish was really good and served on a bed of lettuce. The house beef dish had a a amazing sauce but the beef was tired. Overall very good and we would absolutely come back. Our server was so passionate about the food and very helpful in understanding how it's made and what goes into each dish when asked. The restaurant is lovely and the ambience seems comfortable but not cozy. Multiple two and four tops and easily configurable based in group size. We all know that it is a challenge to find good Asian food in Denver but this place does it RIGHT!!! My friends and I have been looking all over Denver for decent Asian food and after we found this place it's been a regular outing for us. There hasn't been anything on the menu that we haven't tried that hasn't been amazing. The Char Kway Teow is obviously on the top of the list, but the other items are also very good. Scam alert. I had an uncomfortable experience at this place last night that I think other customers should be aware of. When I paid my bill using the POS machine, it did not show the total amount before tip, so I wasn't able to see the final bill amount. I selected a 20% tip without knowing the total. Later, when I checked my credit card charge, the total was noticeably higher than expected. I asked the server for a receipt and was told he might not be able to pull it up since I had already paid. After I pointed out that the charge seemed too high, the server immediately--without checking the bill--said that he might have charged me for three beers instead of the one beer I ordered, and then refunded me for two beers. Another concern is the beer pricing. The single beer I ordered appeared to be charged at $10, which was not listed on the menu. I'm not even sure if that is the correct price, but regardless, $10 for a single beer felt excessive, especially without clear pricing disclosed upfront. I strongly recommend that customers double-check totals and request a full receipt before completing payment. read more

This place is solid for all the right reasons! I love their extensive menu of Asian cuisine from Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand. The owner is super nice and remembers our entree choices every time we visit. We have tried most of the items on the menu and really doesn't matter what you prefer, it's tasty and authentic. I really enjoy their Pad Thai, Penang Curry, Satay Chicken and the rest of the menu. The ambience is nice, nothing special but clean and the right temperature in the winter or summer. Was in town visiting friends and looking for delicious options to go for dinner, and Jaya Asian Grill was recommended as a tasty option to visit. I saw that they had Hainanese Chicken Rice on the menu - I really like this dish and wanted to give this restaurant a try! We went on a Thursday around dinner time 6pm and had no wait to get seated for 3. The ambience of the restaurant is interesting - upon entering the restaurant, you have to go down a flight of stairs, then leading to a dimly lit area below, which was relatively calm with the sounds of the mini aquarium in the room. Service is fast as after ordering, we got our appetizers and food after like 10 minutes. I got the Hainanese Chicken Rice, which was absolutely delicious! They were very generous with the amount of chicken that you receive, and the chicken itself was tender, had a nice light and delicate flavor. This paired nicely with the broth and rice - the broth may be a bit more on the salty side (I don't recommend drinking it on it's own) but gave the other components on the dish the explosion of flavor that was needed. The cucumber slices provided also served as a nice palate cleanser in between the richness of the broth and the heartiness of the rice and chicken. There is a good amount of soy sauce (? could be some other savory sauce, likely sesame oil + soy sauce) that is at the bottom of the chicken pile that is delicious, but it can get on the side of being too salty if you eat it all on its own. In the end, I spent about $15 for every this dish, and I thought it was definitely worth it - you get a generous amount of food if you decide to order the Hainanese Chicken that will leave you feeling full! I would definitely like to revisit Jaya Asian Grill, and try the various other options they have in future visits! (4.5 stars!) read more

It comes with two dipping sauce options and a small bowl of soup. It comes with plenty of chicken so one order will make you full or order one to share so you can order other items on the menu to try. The chicken is quite flavorful and possibly one of the best things to order on the menu. The mi goreng noodles were good but tastes more like a stir fry. It lacks the instant ramen seasoning. We've been coming to Jaya for over three years now and it is still our favorite place to eat out. Last night we celebrated a birthday and our son being home for Christmas from the Navy. This was his first time.. We ordered beef rendang, chicken teriyaki, Nasi Lemak which is a chicken and coconut rice dish that is mild in flavor, watercress vegetables, roti with a curry dipping sauce, and black rice pudding to take home. They were really busy for a Monday night, which kind of shocked us. There is a long wait for your food because it is a family run business and the father does the cooking with help from the son who is absolutely one of our favorite people. You're waiting a while for your food because he's making it all fresh from scratch. You won't find anything stale m, old or cold that's not supposed to be. The quality of the food has not changed just the wait times. But it really is worth the wait. For me the roti, and the beef rendang are my favorites. But the black rice pudding is my all-time favorite. I know it sounds scary, but it is so delicious with sweet black rice topped with a salty sweet creamy coconut sauce.
