My question is, how can they make 4 Thai Basils locations work their consistency? This Thai resto is one of the best Thai we've stumbled upon in the Valley. And I have to say, there are quite a few really good Thai places in the Phoenix Metro Area! Fab place for Thai! This location on North Central is decent, comfortable, friendly and convenient! Overall, their offering of Thai standards as their curry's (whether as panang, Kang Kra Ri, or Masaman), stir fry's, grilled pork or chicken, steamed jasmine rice, a unique Siamese Chow Mein or rice noodles - it's all superb. Thai hot penang curry was really good had the right amount of vegetables and chicken, it wasn't really that spicy though. I have had spicier. The spring roll was good. I had some grubhub credit I needed to use so decided to try Thai basil. To be honest I didn't know much about this place although I've seen it multiple times on the way to the gym and also have seen their downtown location. I am basic so I ordered the pad thai with chicken, medium spicy. I felt the noodles were dry and the spice level was very mild. Portion size was generous. Overall the flavor wasn't there for me so this was a miss. I also got the crab puff - they were very oily and not tasty, would skip in the future. Unfortunately I don't think I'll be back. read more

Last Thursday my colleague and I needed some comfort food after she arrived from the Netherlands and I from L.A. We ordered take out, but upon picking it up decided to eat there. We sat in the cute outdoor seating area on a perfect night. The food was very good. The chicken satay was especially tasty as an appetizer. I had pad Thai with chicken, which was good and a huge portion (though not enough peanuts on the side)-- plenty for dinner the following night, too. My colleague had green curry with tofu and loved it. Also a huge portion. Plus, the staff were very nice and perfectly timed their visits to refill water. Had the yellow chicken curry during lunch and it was delicious. Good amount of chicken and veggies. The jasmine rice was aromatic and I can smell it right when I open my bag. This was a tough one. As a Thai person it was hard to eat what I ordered. The Pad Thai was missing ingredients and made incorrectly, pad see ew was not done correctly either. I popped in here for lunch and it was OK. I've been to Thailand and been to Lom Wongs and Glai Baan here in Phoenix and well this place slumps comparatively. They have a lunch special for $11 and I tried their tofu pad see ew. It comes with salad and spring roll. Salad was covered in some weird dressing, so I didn't bother. Spring roll was ho hum. The pad see ew was barely passable with some chili garlic added, it was also quite wet, which isn't the way it's usually cooked. It's a nice spot to hang out as West Hut and Green Woodpecker brewery right next door. I maybe would come back here if there was no other choice available. read more

The coconut and peanut flavoring was great since it was a bit sweet with a nutty aftertaste. The broccoli and zucchini were soft without being mushy but it was a bit sparse in protein. #44 Pad-See-Ew with pork at Thai hot spicy level - 2/5. The noodles were cooked well and the spicy level was great but there was not much flavoring to the dish overall other than the spice. The protein was a bit lacking and it just felt like we were eating spicy noodles with vegetables overall Ambience: n/a - ordered food to go. Loud oriental ambience music was playing right as you walk through the door but it's reasonable once you're no longer in the entranceway. Well I suppose it was a matter of time before my luck ran out at Thai Basil. Today was my first order from this location. I ordered my usual pad Thai with chicken through Door Dash. It arrived with the box open so the food was not even remotely hot upon arrival. It was completely inedible to me due to the amount of fish sauce. Stopped here before a show at the nearby Orpheum Theatre. It's basically across the street. We've really missed great Thai since moving from Seattle and the reviews were spot on. We arrived before 6 and there were plenty of tables. By 7pm the place was packed. We ordered crispy spring rolls, and they were decent but nothing memorable, so we'd skip those next time. Hubby ordered the pad see ew and said it was one of the best he's had. I enjoyed the chicken cashew which was also very good. One thing I would leave out was the pineapple. It made the dish a bit too sweet. We both chose 3 star and found it to be the perfect amount of heat. Service was great and very fast. Prices were average ($9 for appetizer and $16 for our entrees). Only a 35-minute drive from home so we'll be back for sure! read more

We enjoyed the chicken satay with peanut sauce and a small green salad, as well as the chicken pad Thai. First off I love Thai food and I am extremely picky when it comes to the spice level of my food. I was very pleased at the service. She was very polite. Outstanding Thai food with many vegan-friendly options -- actually turned out to be my favourite of the 3 Thai restaurants in this immediate area. I put in an order over the phone, requesting everything to be done vegan -- no problems at all with that. The food was waiting for me when I requested it. We got: -The pad-rad-nar with tofu ($13.95), 4/5 spiciness level. This dish came with mixed veggies and is flavored with soybean paste and a Thai gravy that is light-to-medium sweet and wonderfully savoury, while still being on the gentle side. Such an amazing noodle dish here. 5/5 -chili garlic vegetables ($13.95), 5/5 spiciness level. -cashew nuts ($13.95), 5/5 spiciness level. Both these dishes were pants-shittingly spicy in the best of ways. They don't just load up with chilis; they integrate the spice beautifully in the dishes. Both were wonderfully savoury, complex, with the veggies cooked perfectly. Just sublime. 5/5 The two non-noodle dishes come with rice. All in all, this place was a touch more expensive than the two other Thai places a block away, but it was the best flavour-wise and came with the largest portions. My highest recommendation: top-quality vegan Thai food, especially if you like Thai spicy levels. read more

Their food at Thai Basil is generally good. I like the flavors. I have tried a lot of their food. I usually get the green curry or the pad Thai or the pad seew ew or one of the rice dishes. The food has a lot of flavor. Sometimes I make green curry at home and it is just as good. I like how easy green curry is to make. The pad Thai at Thai Basil can be lacking a little in sauce. Sometimes I think there should be more. The noodles tend to drink to each other and it is hard to get them separated. The rice dishes are good too and full of flavor. The meat tends to be dry or chewy though. The chicken tends to be very dry. May be over cooked. The beef tends to be chewy. I am not sure what this means. I like their Thai Tea a lot. They don't do free refills like other restaurants do. They also don't seem to have quite as good lunch special prices as other places but I like their food, just not the meat. read more

The food is ok, however, service was unprofessional at all. The lady who's at front desk to pick up the phone call is not pleasant at all. I ordered a Doordash pickup order for 2 days later and then on Doordash app it showed the food is preparing right away. I called Thai Basil right away explaining we ordered the food for 2 days later, not right now. The lady who picked up the phone was ignorant. She replied: "oh, then why you placed an order today?" Then she continued: " you should contact DoorDash, we have nothing to do with this!" Excuse me... are you in contract with DoorDash? I complaint: "stupid system to order food" then this lady was jumping up: " did you say me stupid? why do you say me stupid?..." I explained to her : " I did not say you stupid, I meant this situation is stupid..." and she kept yelling: " hey, why you call me stupid!"... OMG, her voice was so unpleasant and she just kept talking. I just hang up the phone and contacted Doordash away to cancel this order, since after this conversation with this extremely sensitive lady, I have great concern that she would spit something interesting into my food. I usually came here for a quick lunch during noon time, not any more. PS: You could not even cancel this order ( they threaten not to refund you) even though it's for 2 days later(please see the attached picture) and it's just show "preparing" status all the time. I personally would assume it's a special setting from Thai Basil to hold you back from cancelling, since I tried another Asian restaurant nearby and order food for later this week, the latter order could be easily cancelled.
