I eat here once every couple of months. This place makes delicious food. There isn't anything that i have not liked yet. They can make the food mellow or very spicy. I prefer most of the food at a 3-4 level of spice. The only downside to this place is the service staff gets overwhelmed. There are many times during lunch that the place will be full, people are picking up to-go orders and the 2-3 people working customer service are all tied up. This has become our favorite lunch go-to spot. The food is always fresh and absolutely delicious. The lunch special is a great deal! I'm stuck on the green curry with tofu, and my daughter is a huge fan of the sweet and sour with tofu. The spring rolls are a huge hit here, and the little candies given out with your check are the perfect way to end the meal. When this establishment first opened it was the best thing around. Everything was super fresh and the service felt as though it was family operating it and they took the utmost care with things. The last couple of times we have been here it was off from when the first opened years ago. There have been new wait staff and they didn't quite have the same level of attentiveness. I can't say the quality of food has really gone down but the overall experience for me is down just a bit from the early days. Friendly service. Decent food. I would say it is more of a Thai fusion restaurant than authentic Thai food. Lacking flavor. Portions on the pan fried noodles were large. Curry was a bit too runny/watery. Overall just a bit bland. Total came out to about $82 for 7 people (one dish and drink each). So I would say the pricing is pretty fair. If you're into more subtle Asian food, this might be the place for you. Disappointed.... we arrived at8:20 Saturday evening. They close at 9:00 pm. By 8:30 any table that was empty they started putting the chairs on top of the tables. We got our food by 8:35. We had to ask for napkins and utensils. Bottom line is we never saw our sever again. All of the employees were intent on closing up. They locked the front door at 8:45. Someone had to knock and apologize when picking up his to go order. It was very uncomfortable for us feeling like we needed to hurry and leave as we were keeping them from leaving. We hurried and ate and we were gone by 8:50. They could care less like we were holding the up from going home. Only reason for 3 stars was the food was good. I'm my opinion they were all very rude. OK, it's obvious from reading other reviews that this place has an issue with service. Let me tell you from my experience that these are no exaggerations. Service in the restaurant is horrendous. Expect long waits and rude staff (the owner). Take out is little better as the phone goes unanswered and when they do answer expect to be placed on hold and once again expect a long wait to get the food you ordered. The food is what is amazing and why people are willing to put up with this place, however every time we go there I end up saying never again. Should you try it? Gave this place a second try after one bad experience....unfortunately this time was worse. Sad because the food is decent, but the service is HORRENDOUS. The first experience was when I was trying to call in an order for pick up on a Friday evening. The phone rang and rang, no answer. My boyfriend was going to stop by to pick up the food on his way home but I texted him that there was no answer. So he stopped by Thai Basil. He asked why no one was answering the phone...they thought that was funny - said they were busy...So he put in our order, and it took over an hour to get the food to bring home. The second trip was this evening, we ate in and ordered some appetizers, rice and a Pad Tai dish and asked for it to be made NOT spicy. There were three of us there. One started eating the noodles and was fine with the spice level, but when the other two of us tried it (one has a serious dietary consideration) it was just too spicy. We sent it back and the waitress said that "Not Spicy" according to Thai Basil standards is a "2". Well that's good for them, but we could not eat it. Next thing, a young man brings the dish BACK to the table and says that we ate half and that we should have let them know sooner and refused to replace what he said was a half-eaten dish (we disagree). So I guess the implication was that we were on the take to get a FREE HALF of an $8.00 entree. Really? He did this in front of the other restaurant guests and included smug remarks as he walked away. My friend told him that he had just lost our business. He said "Good, go somewhere where they'll take back a half-eaten dish." Well, I guess that leaves us with just every other restaurant in Visalia to dine at. Gave one star only because I had to to post this review. Deserves a zero. read more

I've been here a few times and I think I'm ready to review. Unfortunately, it seems there have been several one star reviews as of late. This is pretty disappointing, as I know if these patrons had experienced the level of service and quality of food that I have received, their minds would definitely be changed. As I don't live in the area, my visits have been sparse. But enough to know that this place is a gem in the Central Valley. I can thank Yelp for initially guiding me to Thai Basil. I would have otherwise been lost in the sea that is fast food along the 99. Thai Basil is small, located in a strip mall, and shoved in a corner. You would likely miss it if you didn't know it was here. Parking is plentiful and free, always a bonus for big city folks. Something we small town dwellers take for granted. The restaurant is laid out a little odd. I never know whether to stay by the door for a seat, or go up to the counter. The screen and plants kind of block views and make for a crowded entryway. Luckily, we've always been greeted by someone serving other guests, and have been promptly seated. The lunch hour can be quite hectic, and if you're not their early, plan on waiting for a seat. Employees are always polite and efficient, but definitely seem understaffed. I've seen a few patrons be seated, and within 15 minutes of no service get up and leave. So yes, this place could use a few more employees, but don't take it personally. I've ordered a few different options, but always go back to my old stand by: Pad Thai. I typically opt for pork or chicken, so I can't comment on any other meats. It's not overly sweet (which I actually prefer), but is blended quite nicely. I always ask for Medium spice, but it's usually pretty underwhelming. I may be bold and ask for Hot one day, but I'm afraid of a heavy handed cook In a way, I wish they provided a spice rack so you could experiment with your own level of heat. But now I'm just being picky. Another favorite is their Som Tum (Papaya Salad). Nothing, and I mean NOTHING, satisfies my summer hunger more than this. There's something so wonderful about this dish. It's light, fresh, slightly fruity, and spicy. I could honestly eat this alone and be a happy camper. But my eyes are typically bigger than my stomach and I end up ordering enough for a family of 6. Other dishes I would highly recommend are the Thai Dumplings and Fresh Spring Rolls. You can't go wrong with either of these. Everything Thai Basil does is great. Like I mentioned, if you're in a rush this may not be the place for you. Oh and if you really want Coconut Ice cream, just head over to the Save Mart around the corner and buy a carton of their Sunnyside Coconut ice cream. This unassuming restaurant is tucked away in the corner of an equally unassuming strip mall. However, be not fooled. The food is great! I was not expecting much, but boy was I impressed. The ambiance is traditional Thai, despite the restaurant having a small footprint (approximately 8-10 tables). The waitress was friendly and helped us make selections for our lunch this day.
