I had the pad Thai lunch special, my co-workers had the red curry, and a shrimp dish, and we were all pleased. The portion sizes are more than enough. Thai Basil was a decent place to eat. I do have to admit that I like that they make it so any dish can be set on a scale of 0-10 for spicy (and when I tried a 7, that was pretty damn spicy!). They were pretty busy when we came in and both food and the hostess took awhile getting back to us but they were busy and it looked like they might have been short staffed too. The atmosphere was nice, service was so cold, and non communicative. We waited quite a while for food, and our server didn't check in very often. We ordered a simple meal since this was our first time here; chicken satay, beef curry and shrimp fried rice. The chicken was rubbery and stringy, sauce was blah, beef curry had odd shaped and cut chunks of potato and carrot. The curry was comprised of thin over cooked beef, big potato cubes, hunks of carrot and slivers of onion. Our fried rice was oily and burnt, I attempted to eat it, ate 2 shrimps a spoon of burnt rice. Server was behind computer 70% of time we were there, and didn't come to table to check on us after the food was dropped off, when she did arrive it was with the bill. I relayed that the rice was burnt, and she took 4$ off our bill for a 10.95 dish that was inedible. Awesome place!!! Found Thai Basil on Yelp with 24 reviews, most are 4 and 5 star. I had shrimp Pad Thai. They use a hot scale from 1 -10. I picked 5, it was hot. Almost to hot, but nice. Most people would say this place is like any other Thai place in town and comparable. Well, let me tell you what sets this place apart is their flavorful food which is always consistent. My wife took me here on a whim and it turned out to exceed expectations. The restaurant is small and could use some freshening up. The waitresses were vety attentive and the food came out quickly. The spring rolls wr had are not the deep fried type and were very fresh and crisp, served with a nice savoty sauce. I had the pineapple curry woth pork and a side of steamed rice. I have been eating here for the past three years. And I got to say If you want real authentic Thai food; then you need to try this place. I have been to Thailand and I have tried food from patong, Bangkok and other parts and this place taste the same. I love it. I have to eat hear at least once a week. If you don't like spices then maybe this not for you. If you like the Thai Orchid in Fresno then you will like this place. I think this is the best Thai place in town. Food is great, restaurant is clean and you probably won't get shanked eating here, like the other Thai places in town (other places have good food too, but I can really only go to them when I'm with a big, armed guy) Anyway, the food here is awesome and the service is always friendly. May not be fasted place to eat, but then again, they make everything fresh as it's ordered, so the slight wait is well worth it for the freshness. If you go, get some fresh spring rolls....not on the menu, but you can get them with chicken or shrimp. Very fresh and light with a to die for peanut sauce. My other favorites are the tofu pad thai and their curries....delish! The owner talked me into his signature cashew chicken one time and I really didn't care for it....it was dry and too over fried, but perhaps it was just a bad day, because I've had friends tell me it's very good. Excellent Thai iced tea! Had the lunch special of cashew chicken. Came with a big ball of sticky rice and a mini egg roll. The entree iteself wasn't very large, but it was lunch afterall, and I left full and satisfied. The dish was spicy and full of flavor. Service was very good. Our server was friendly and attentive. Yes this Thai restaurant is as good as what many here has posted. I've been coming here since it opened. Since the ownership changed I have noticed dome changes. Overall the standards , taste, and value has not deteriorated. This is my go to place whenever out-of-towners requested something non-American. Well... I got hooked on Thai food while living in San Jose, CA. I've been very disappointed with the quality of Thai food in the Central Valley... until I tried Thai Basil. It's a small place, located near Block Buster on the corner of Noble and Ben Maddox. The food was great, and the service was really good too. We ordered waters and kept getting out glasses refilled without having to ask! I ordered vegetarian pad thai with no onions. It was great. I asked for a side of limes so I could add a little tang to it. My husband hates Thai food but he tried the sweet and sour chicken (which is not fried) and he actually really enjoyed it! Only down side? It's a tiny bit pricey. We ordered off the lunch menu and our items were $8 each. I thought that was a little high for a lunch special, but it was really good so I think it was worth it. Portions were good - we both had some food left over. Check it out. *Update 9/20/11: I take back what I said about their lunch specials being a tiny bit pricey. I went back yesterday and ordered the Pad Thai lunch special. Not only did I get a pretty good portion of Pad Thai, it also came with steamed rice and a small spring roll. Given everything that I got, I think $8 is not a bad price. That being said, I don't disagree with some of the other reviewers when they complain about portion sizing. I've noticed that if I get curry not on the lunch special, the portion is a bit small and it doesn't come with rice - and who eats curry without rice? I always try to stop here when I'm in town for the papaya salad. I live in Fresno where there are way more restaurants to get papaya salad but this place does it better than any of them in my opinion. Very authentic and full of flavor. I get mine a level 6 (out of 10) in spice level and it's pretty darned hot. Everyone I've had try it at this level thinks they can't eat it though so just be careful about the spice level you choose. This place has a pretty great lunch special from 11-3. I usually get chicken pad thai level 4 and it's pretty darn good- not spicy at all unless you add the chili. It comes with steamed rice and an egg roll. I recently also tried the tofu pad thai and it was honestly also very good, my only concern was how chewy the tofu was but then again it was my first time trying tofu! My only issue is that when you call to order they ask for your number and I assumed it was to call me back when my order was ready for pick up, but nope they never call so it's very annoying having to tell them my number every time. I have not tried any of there other food, but the pad thai lunch special is definitely worth a try. read more

My husband and I came here for lunch today and we Fell in LOVE! We ordered the cashew chicken lunch (#6), my husband ordered the #5 (can't remember the name), and we ordered pineapple fried rice. I should've just ordered the PFR because it was legit. So good! Pinapple chunks weren't too big, no curry to takeover the flavor, and yummy cashews. The cashew chicken lunch was delish. Nice, subtle favors mixed with fresh veggies. And my husbands lunch was so good! So much flavor and spicy! Really delicious. Service was good. No complaint. I would give it 5 starts if the menu was more accommodating, like allowing lunch items for dinner with an added charge or kids menu items but they don't and your lucky to get a seat because of the restaurant size.
