We were a little thrown off when we walked in and we were the only ones in the place on a Monday evening at 6pm. Over the course of dinner - crispy spring rolls, chicken Pad Thai and Pad See Ew - 5 people came in to grab to-go orders, so maybe that's what this place specializes in? The food is solidly tasty. You get 3 crispy spring rolls per order, which seems a little skewed, we would have preferred if it was just an order of 2 or 4, easier to share. Luckily, I was there with my boyfriend, so we just split it. The dipping sauce for the rolls is amazingly tasty. Boyfriend felt the Pad Thai was good but not the best he's had in the area. He also felt that the amount of bean sprouts actually overshadowed the actual dish, half the plate was fresh bean sprouts, so he didn't feel the portion was worth the money. I felt my Pad See Ew was good, noodles cooked perfectly and was a nice portion. Boyfriend made the comment that next time he'd order what I got. I had the Inferno Thai Fried Rice and it was delicious with fresh ingredients! Loved it so much I went back the next day!

The place was quiet and very clean. Wait staff was attentive. I had one of their lunch specials....The inferno chicken. It came with soup, salad and the entree for 7.95. Overall I thought it had a great flavor at a competitive value. The food was not overly seasoned or too salty. I wish there was more chicken in my dish but, I suppose the amount matched the price point. My Co - worker had the Panang chicken which I also tried and found myself a bit envious however, mine was quite satisfying. Maybe I ordered the wrong dishes - but everything we had was bland. Order - fried vegetable spring rolls, cashew chicken, and thai lettuce wraps. Everything was just ok but not much flavor. Lettuce wraps were different then your standard lettuce wraps - sliced chicken breast with boiled noodles, sprouts, and sauces on the side. Thai Bistro. This is probably the best thai food in houston. Me and my wife often frequent this restaurant since its walking distance from where we live. Their Customer Service is very good. very prompt and friendly. Once ordered, the food arrives in 15 mins max. The menu is no doubt a little pricey for us but since their service and food is so good I don't mind it. The reason I have given them 4 stars instead of 5 is because they charge $2 for extra rice. I think their food is aleady expensive to begin with and I can't justify paying $2 for a bowl of white rice. Overall an Awesome place to go if you like Thai food. read more

Oh the difficult choices that every Yelper faces...three stars or four stars. You debate it in your head, you make your list and you check it twice, you toil in agony trying to decide. Was is just "A-Ok" or was it "Yay! I'm a fan"? Thai Bistro was definitely one of those 3 or 4 stars decisions that was difficult to make, but in the end there was just something missing and I will tell you why. I went here for dinner one night after having a strong craving for some Thai food. My girlfriend had seen this place on Yelp and noted that it got good reviews, so we decided to go check it out. From the outside, I must say the completely black tinted windows make this place look a tad bit shady. Whenever places have that I always wonder "Is this a restaurant or a drug smuggling ring? If I walk in I just may get killed!" But luckily, all was good and to my surprise the ambiance was quite nice. The walls were decorated in a very unique way and it felt very cozy and comfortable. So needless to say appearance and service wise this place gets two solid thumbs up. I ordered the Thai Sweet and Sour which is a choice of Chicken or Pork stir-fried with Thai style sweet & sour sauce, bell pepper, cucumber, onions & pineapple. I went with the pork and it was neither the best nor the worst that I ever have had. To start with the ingredients were very fresh and they gave you a decent amount of food. The pork was fried, it had a decent flavor, and they gave you plenty. However, it was very chewy and not very tender. I often found myself having to chew the pork for quite a while in order to swallow it. The sweet and sour sauce was interesting. Usually when you get sweet and sour sauces, the sauce is more on the sweet side with no sour taste at all. However, this sauce definitely had strong hint of both. And with the first few bites,I was really excited about a sweet and sour sauce that actually tasted as such. But as the meal went on the sauce became a little difficult to eat, with the sweet and sour taste becoming simply bitter. My girlfriend ended up ordering the the Pad Thai and again it was hit and miss all in one meal. When she began eating it, she noted that there was something missing and when I tasted it I noted the same thing. It tasted bland. She kindly explained to the waitress that it lacked flavor and asked them to add more sauce. When it returned, it tasted like some of the best Pad Thai I had had in a while. So in conclusion, Thai Bistro seems like a case of so close but still far away. So, I may have to go try this place out again to see if this place is truly "a-ok" or if really its "Yay! Craved a return to the cuisine of one of my best adventures ever and settled on Thai Bistro. The Chang was cold, the place was empty, and the service was attentive. The food was just so-so. The Papaya salad lacked bite (my clue should have been when they asked how spicy - I said medium but my experience is that there is only one way to eat Papaya salad and it's HOT!). It just didn't feel complete, as though the salad was sad that I did not brave an order of spicy or Thai spicy. I had the tofu vegetable yellow curry. Again, so-so as my veggies were drowning in sauce. I think that might be a Houston thing (drown everything in heavy sauce) but it was not great. The staff was very nice and I wish them well - I just won't be satisfying any Thai cravings here again. read more

This location just opened about a few months ago. I've eaten at the Thai Bistro on SW Freeway many years ago, but I have no recollection of how the food was. Thought I would give this place a try since there aren't too too many Thai places along Westheimer that is close to work other than Thai Cottage. I really liked the decor. Fancy little place for Thai food. One part that threw off the fancy is the white butcher paper they put on top of the white table cloth..you know the ones at Macaroni Grill where you can color on? Most of the lunch specials average about $7.95 and comes with either a soup or a salad. I ordered the panang chicken curry while my friend ordered the green chicken curry. I thought my dish was decent, I've had better, but I've also had worse than this. As for the green chicken curry, my friend thought it wasn't too good, and it also gave him a stomachache later in the day. I was fine though. :) Portion size was a pretty good amount though. But I think with my small appetite, I think Thai Cottage has a better deal at $6.25 even though the portions are smaller. But nonetheless, I hope they have more clientele. It's a nice little joint. It was pretty dead when we went there for lunch around 1:45 on a Friday..but then again, maybe we beat the rush. read more

Came here with some friends two days ago. I ordered their Panang curry as it seemed to be a hit amongst their Yelp reviews. It was pretty good, however the dish was simply warm and not served hot, so a little disappointing to be honest. I've had better Thai food around Houston. Nothing to knock my socks off. A friend ordered their pad Thai and she literally dug around to find some shrimp within the dish, which happened to be only two. They seemed to skimp out on the shrimp in the "shrimp and chicken" dish. The atmosphere however was pleasant and welcoming. It seemed busy for a Saturday night! read more

I had the fish cakes really chewy and overcooked. Me & my boyfriend had the green curry with beef. Although the flavors were there, the curry was very thick and chalky it tasted like corn starch was pour in the curry. I always love thai tea every where I go, so I at least enjoyed that. I just wasn't really impressed by the curry and the fact in total we paid 40 dollars. But the service was nice and friendly. I wouldn't pay that much to eat at that establishment. read more

Went here today for lunch, and it was average. The atmosphere of the place was quaint, and cute. The server was average, nice, but not the most attentive. However they do have separate people filling glasses and collecting plates. I ordered the pad thai because I LOVE pad thai. The lunch special came with a salad and soup (you can ask for a spring roll in place of one for no charge, but found that out after I ordered). The soup wasn't anything special, I only had a few bites. The salad was better, had a tangy and sweet dressing. The pad thai had good flavor, but I wish they didn't chop up the noodles so much and there were more peanuts in the dish. In addition, the chicken and shrimp were overcooked. Even though there were some minor taste issues, the price was good. Only $9 something (after tax) for all of that. Overall, the place was okay. Decent food, good prices, big portions, but I would probably only return for the lunch special and try something else. read more

Came here for an early dinner and had an exquisite chicken satay appetizer (seasoned chicken breast on kabob), with a great sauce and garnishes. Fellow I was with enjoyed his sweet and sour pork, and remarked that it wasn't in the fried conveyor-belt nugget style of so many run-of -the-mill Americanized Chinese restaurants around the city: it was more similar to the unfried version served in certain Vietnamese restaurants. The green-curry beef dish was only mediocre, due to ingredients (not preparation) that were palatable but not absolutely as fresh as could be. . I think the only real flaw of this place is that their menu is too generous - they should strip it down based on their strongest talents and freshest ingredients in stock. ***update*** Special note for pescetarians: sweet and sour fish + brown rice I had this month May 2013, was v.good. read more

Great place for lunch. Love the Basil chicken and green curry chicken. I always get the spring roll with lunch in place of the soup. Staff can be a bit slow so you might need to call for them when you need something. Overall great place for lunch. We have not been here for dinner so we cannot speak to that. read more

I came in for lunch and had a Thai tea and the Panang Chicken Curry. The portion was quite small but tasty and fresh. The Thai tea was sweeter than most I've had but also very good. Came by this place for lunch with my daughter ( she's an infant so no she ordered nothing) , I had a taste for some thai food, so this place popped in my head since it had rave reviews by family members. I decided to try their thai tea and I must say I enjoyed it very much, wasn't too sweet nor too milky. For lunch I ordered the Panang Shrimp (they have the chicken on their lunch menu for 7.95) from the regular menu and it was about 14.95, the food was quite tasty, very well seasoned, my only complaint is the shrimp had the tail shells still on it, but that's just me. My husband and I are regulars here. Really good Thai food, reasonable prices, good service, friendly staff. Very nice ambience and one of the few places where it's quiet enough to have a conversation (which cannot be done across the street at PF Changs!) Anyhow, we've had quite a bit of the menu. Some of our favorites: - Tom Yum soup: great Thai flavors, generous with the shrimp - Chicken Satay : outstanding, perfectly cooked, great peanut sauce - Pad Thai: we typically get the vegetarian version because that's what we've always had. It's great - perfect Thai flavors plus veggies not usually seen in Pad Thai, like broccoli. Love the chewy tofu! - Basil Inferno anything: chicken or shrimp, very tasty and despite the name, you can get a mild spice level - Any of the curries but the green curry is my all time favorite Thai dish - Thai Lettuce Wraps: these are our latest obsession, so much better than the oversweet stuff you get at Chinese places. Sliced marinated and grilled chicken breasts with the rice noodles, bean sprouts, carrots, cucumber, mint with 3 sauces on the side - peanut, sweet chili and Tiger Cry. It's a light meal but very satisfying - Mango with sticky rice for dessert - yum yum yum We've lately discovered the hot Ginger drink, which is a nice finish to the meal. Essentially, we've enjoyed just about everything we've had here. They are consistently good. We highly recommend this place, it's great to have such good Thai food so close to home. read more

We had a work lunch here with a party of 10+ and I must say the staff handled it really well. Service was attentive throughout the entire dining experience. They have affordable lunch specials less than $10 that comes with a salad and a soup. The salad and soup are pretty typical so you'll know what to expect if you've been to any other thai restaurant. I had the chicken pad thai with the second highest level of spice and it wasn't really that spicy to me. Note that I do love spicy! The pad thai was flavored well but the chicken was a little dry. A few months ago, I wanted to try this place out based on yelp reviews. My boyfriend got chick fil a to go before we headed over here to get my food to go. He was carrying his to go bag as we walked in and asked for a take out menu. The girl was polite and handed me the menu. Then, she looked at my sympathetically and said the owner does not allow outside food in. She told us we were to wait outside until the food was ready. So, we had to wait outside. In the humid heat. For 15 minutes. When there was tons of tables available inside. JUST BECAUSE WE HAD A TO GO BAG FROM ANOTHER RESTAURANT. I see why this place got 4 stars. I was impressed when I walked in. I love the environment. I ordered a pad Thai. I comes with shrimp and chicken. The dish was average. I prefer it more spicier and more proportion. Maybe next time I will ask to make it more spicier. It's understandable because hot everybody like spicy. My favorites on their menu are Cheese roll, papaya salad, tom yum soup, soy sauce noodle,basil inferno, and pad Thai..I don't like my food being that sweet so I ask the chef to be light on the sauce for pad Thai.
