We have been coming here for few years now. I love their Pho and order it almost everything we come. My husband orders spring rolls and I always order garden rolls for appetizers. They are so good and fresh. We came to today for Valentine's lunch. I stepped outside of my normal and ordered Pad Radna. This dish was a first for me and it was absolutely amazing. Veggies, chicken and noodle in a brown gravy. After lunch they served us complimentary deserts. We had Mung bean custard cake that was so unusual and delicious. Soooo...I'm not sure where to start. My wife and I saw this place had good reviews so we decided we'd give it a shot. We won't be back. The best part of the experience was the server. He was very pleasant but other than that, this place was mediocre at very best. I ordered the fried rice and my wife ordered the pad Thai. My fried rice came out orange and the pad Thai came out looking a bit...greasy and orange. The biggest issue though was the flavor. There was NONE. I asked for the rice to be spicy and it was, but there was no additional flavor to what I was eating. I LOVE fried rice but this was a real disappointment. Would not recommend to anyone. I gave two stars because the young man serving us was polite. As an aside...we also ordered Thai chicken wings. No flavor whatsoever even after they were "marinated" in Thai seasonings. COME EAT HERE! Out of all the Thai places in Harrisonburg, this is the BEST. I am a snob. I've been exposed to Asian food in Philly and Annandale and they've ruined all other places for me but I this little gem steals a place in my snobby life. This restaurant is one of the best in the area. The service is great and the food spectacular. You cab actually tell the chiefs knows what they are doing. Eat dish is unique and taste different. Our family ordered shrimp fried rice, chicken drunken noddles, mixed seafood and pad radna. Each dish was brought out exactly as we requested and in a timely manner. They food portions are more than the other Thai restaurant so, be sure to either come on an empty stomach or share. The server made sure everything was perfect and our drinks were refilled promptly. Three stars based on a comparison between Thai Flavor just down the street. We had the typical Pho, Pad Thai with Chicken, Papaya salad and tea. The Pho flavor was not as robust as Thai Flavor but was still good. The Pad Thai was distinctly different and had a sweeter sauce and was more saucy, which we don't prefer. Almost tasted like a typical Asian sauce poured over the noodles. The Papaya salad was Ok but again Thai Flavor beats it with a few extra veggies and the papaya was crisper. More importantly the service was less than what you get at Thai Flavor. They box your take out including soups which they didn't here. Best choice is Thai Flavor. read more

I agree with the negative reviews. I'm moving to Harrisonburg in a few months. Unfortunately Thai Café is near my new home, but I will not eat there again. The food was bland, unlike most Thai food. I wonder if it was cooked to order because it came very quickly. We had drunken noodles and hot basil with beef. They tasted much the same. I was surprised at the large collection of bottled vinegar and sauces on the table. In desperation for some taste, I tried several of them--a big mistake because they were excruciatingly hot. The spring rolls came with a watery sauce with some chopped peanuts in it. The jasmine tea had no flavor. I now live in the D.C. area, which has excellent Thai restaurants. I plan to eat at them as often as I can before I leave. read more

My friend and I have had lunch here twice and not been disappointed! The green papaya salad was flavorful, spicy and a good-sized portion. On a 1-10 chili-heat level, I picked "6", which was plenty hot, about my limit. The Hot Basil seafood combo was also very good and richly seasoned, with a generous mix of mussels, squid, etc. It's a family run operation and they've always been friendly. The decor isn't fancy, but the food and prices are what we're interested in most. The few poor reviews are hard to imagine; maybe it depends on what one is used to and what one orders? One of my favorite Thai places ever. The man working the evening we went gave wonderful service. I got the Thai Robbie with extra tofu and it was absolutely delicious. The spring rolls were a bit lack luster without many vegetables and wilted iceberg lettuce, but were still tasty. My partner got Pad Steak and LOVED it (and he's picky). The prices were also awesome. This place is amazing! My family goes here for dinner every time we're in Harrisonburg. The server is very nice and usually gives us whatever we need. The only thing is that it takes a little bit for the food to come out but that's because they make everything from scratch, fresh. Ive been going to this place for over 10 years. It is my go to place for Thai food in Harrisonburg, and might have been my first experience with Thai food. The red curry is my fave. In summer time I go for the vermicelli with Chicken. They have the best spring rolls of any Thai restaurant I have been too. I used to come here at least once a week in college. There are a select few places that serve pho in Harrisonburg, and this is probably the most decent in the area (weird since pho is a Vietnamese food). Besides the pho, I am in love with the shrimp spring rolls here. Every other restaurant I've been to serves their fresh rolls with a dark, thick peanut sauce. Thai cafe serves theirs with a clear, slightly sweet peanut sauce which is so amazing! It is the same sauce they use with their vermicelli which is my other favorite thing off their menu. The meat is always flavored perfectly, the veggies and noodles are fresh and if you squeeze in some lime juice, you can't get better than that! The pad radna is another dish that I used to eat frequently. It doesn't taste like authentic Thai food as the flavors are not as strong. I could see why some people would prefer to go other places for authentic Thai food, but I really like the toned down flavors at this restaurant. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying the food is bland, but definitely not your typical Thai flavors. After reading the reviews, I really want to try the curry! read more

Excellent small, informal Thai restaurant in a shopping mall. The fresh spring rolls (an appetizer, sometimes called summer rolls as these are not fried) were delicious and substantial each with a large shrimp enclosed in the rice paper wrapper. It did not come with a dish of nam pla (lime juice/fish sauce/sugar) so you should ask for it. The peanut sauce (which I asked for) was good. There is also hoisin sauce on the table if that's what you prefer. The beef salad was excellent, as was the mussaman curry. The Thai iced coffee is excellent as well. The service was also prompt and helpful; then I asked the waitress where we could buy wine, as we were leaving. She didn't know, but googled this and then directed us to Pioneer Square in Harrisonburg, which was easy to find. I recommend this restaurant very highly and look forward to going back! read more

I seriously can't recommend this place enough, my meal was delicious, freshly cooked and my waitress was super nice. The restaurant worried me, since there was no one sitting in it but the owners little kids playing Nintendo DS. I decided to give it a try anyway. The yellow curry was so good, after my faithful Pad Thai selection at all Thai restaurants. This yellow curry had pineapples in it, those were picked out by me after the first taste of chicken with coconut curry sauce. The food here was great. I have NEVER had food too spicy for me. I'm a huge chili head, so it was great to finally eat a curry that was knock your pants off spicy, and almost hard to finish; but boy did I. That being said. I've eaten there twice and I've gotten sick TWICE...At first I thought it was a fluke, so I went back again. Turns out both times it was because I got chicken. It's not proven, but I've been told since then that other people have experienced this problem, too. EAT HERE WISELY...my friends have never had a problem with the tofu products, and IF I ever go back, that's what I'll have to get, but i will NEVER eat meat from this place, or any small place like this again. This is a very quiet restaurant. Not many people in there either time I went. The food is decent but the service was lacking. We waited forever for someone to take our order and began to think they forgot about us (and we were a party of 9) The waitress only refilled our drinks once and that's after they were empty for a while.
