This is a very quiet restaurant. Not many people in there either time I went. The food is decent but the service was lacking. We waited forever for someone to take our order and began to think they forgot about us (and we were a party of 9) The waitress only refilled our drinks once and that's after they were empty for a while. I came in for lunch and it was quick and efficient. I ordered the yellow curry because I saw another person eating it and it looked really good. I asked if I could have some of the Thai chili in the fish sauce and they made it for me as well. I thought this place was better than taste of Thai and much more authentic. I think I ordered the wrong thing. In from out of town I grabbed Pad Ginger and Drunken Noodles for myself and my fiancé. The drunken noodles were incredibly bland.. No heat and no texture to the noodles, just served in a blah gravy sauce. The pad ginger also lacked that kick of fresh herbs and spices that you expect from a Thai restaurant. After reading these reviews... I should have ordered Pho and Vermicilli. I was surprised to see the Pho on a Thai menu... Either this place is really Vietnamese or it is dulling down the Thai flavor to appeal to a city that may not be as familiar with the big bold tastes of Thai cooking. read more

Engaged service is rare and Thai Cafe never disappoints in this area. I've only dined here for lunch and have always had fast, engaged, friendly service. The food is good. No qualifiers needed. Very good restaurant on many levels. I would recommend trying the fried spring rolls they have. They are some of the best I've ever had. Very crispy, good flavor inside as well. Also the vermicelli is delicious. I'm not a huge fan of the sour one but I liked a lot of other ones. Service has always been quick for me and the staff seems pretty nice. Can't help but compare to those in DC area. Yes we are spoiled living there, so my review is biased. The peanut sauce that came with the spring rolls was watery fish sauce with peanuts in it. supposed to be thicker and not have fish sauce in it. strange. The pad see ew and drunken noodle dish came out as the exact same dish!!' Sauce was gravy like, tasted like ramen noodle seasoning with egg flavor, almost was a taste of Chinese food and ramen noodle/Thai combined into one dish. The pad Thai had a sour taste to it and noodles were overlooked. Very bad taste... Need to stick to American food while visiting in Harrisonburg. read more

Excellent Thai food! The best egg rolls I've ever had. Love the pad Thai as well with chicken or tofu. I'm not an adventurous eater so trying tofu pad Thai was a stretch for me but I was blown away! The Thai Café located behind the Valley Mall in Harrisonburg was the first Thai restaurant in Harrisonburg and still one of my favorite inexpensive places to eat. The atmosphere is thin, but the flavor is long lasting. The Tom Kai Gai is the best of the entire 3 Thai restaurant as are the spring roll. There Massaman curry is also the best with a rich creamy coconut curry with chunks of potato, pineapple, onion and bell pepper and topped with chopped peanut. And the portion is very generous. All the curries here are tasty. I really like the BBQ Steak Salad it is nice and refreshing with a dressing similar to the peanut sauce you get with the spring rolls. It has cilantro, onion, carrots fresh Thai basil in it. I ask for fresh Mung bean sprout and crushed peanut for it. The chicken salad is good and tastes similar with the same ingredients. Try the Rice Vermicelli with chicken is shredded lettuce topped with rice noodles in rice vinegar dressing with fresh Thai basil, Mung bean sprouts, match stick carrots, julienned onion, crushed peanuts and lime. I also like the pork and beef versions of this dish. Everything here I have had is always fresh and flavorful. The service here is always friendly and they almost always remember what you like. That is very nice when you go out to eat. My only complaint is you can get a beer here; they do not have a liquor permit. But it is a small thing, and this is a great place to eat before a movie. The owner here is the brother of the lady who owns Thai Flavor and I feel like I'm cheating when I eat here. It is an inexpensive, fast and delicious you can't beat that! read more

Not impressed. The waitress was friendly and the restaurant was semi-clean but I definitely would not call it a Thai restaurant. The dishes, red curry, hot basil chicken, sausage and onions, pad Thai all were missing authentic Thai flavors. The red curry did not have enough meat. Thai tea was a concentrated mix. Disgusting! Our overall experience was underwhelming. Our meal was about $35 but it was not worth it even at the low cost. Also, the food came out at different times which was highly odd since the first order recipients were finished their meals by the time the last order came out. If you're visiting from out of town, save your time, tastebuds, and money. Eat elsewhere! read more

We went here based on all the good reviews and were terribly disappointed. Thai food is supposed to be very flavorful and the food here was so bland. The Tom Yum and Tom Kha were so tasteless. We also ordered the phad Thai and it didn't taste like any we've ever had before. My daughter ordered the lo mein and it came out watery and there were more vegetables (mostly onions) than noodles. Although the food here was barely edible, the customer service was quick and friendly. Food was definitely overpriced compared to other Thai restaurants we've been to. No doubt my favorite restaurant in town. I've been going for years and always have pleasant service. The vermicelli dishes are outstanding, you've got to try it. They're filling but light. I have trouble ordering anything else because I always get the same thing, but I hear great things about their curry (especially green curry) and their pho. One of my favorite places to eat when I went to school in Harrisonburg. I can't find any Thai place that makes Pad Radna the way they do it. I think the difference is the sauce, the veggies, and the way they fry the egg noodles. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. Every time I visit I make sure to take one back home with me. I always get the Radna, but the pork vermicelli and fried rice are good too...I think I'm going to take a little road trip right now. read more

Terrible Thai food! It was extremely bland! I had the Pad Garlic and Snow Peas with shrimp. The shrimp was tough/overcooked and tasted freezer burned and the garlic sauce was so watered down there was no garlic taste at all. We also had the Yellow Curry with beef and it was the worse curry dish I ever had. I was so hungry that I tried to fix up the food with soy sauce and salt but just decided to throw it away. I've had Tom Kha abroad and throughout the country, this was the worst I've ever experienced. Maybe I'm jaded by my Columbus, Ohio spoils, but the food is flat and flavorless. I LOVE this place! And it's next door to the best nail salon :) My family and I dine here at least once or twice a week, it's that good. If you're looking for Pho Soup, this is the place. Their traditional coffee is great (REALLY strong) and their mango sticky rice dessert, even better. read more

I liked the beef vermicelli here, but didn't really care for their fried rice and pad thai which was very wierd compared to many restaurants in northern virginia. Their pad thai was more like dried yentafo noodles. The place were hidden in a small street and parking limited. Overall It was not too bad after a long day of hiking. read more

We stop by this place whenever we are driving up I-81. They have a peanut sauce like no other...it's hard to describe, but I'm not the only one crazy about it, as I've seen other customers buying large containers of just the sauce.
