As a college student, I ran on Thai Fortune. This place was a favorite of several of my friends and coworkers so I have plenty of pent-up experience to unleash in a Yelp review. The actual location is a bit run-down, but I think that adds to its "hole in the wall" character. At lunchtime, this place gets packed, so usually your best bet is just to order out, which is ridiculously fast. They will almost always have your food ready if you arrive after 10 minutes. Taste-wise, I'm in love with the pad woo sene (spelling?). Be careful about spicy levels (I'm sure that's in a review for every Thai place). I have never ventured above medium spice as my friend had his meal ruined by the next spice level. The same family has been running this place for years, and are always nice when I go in to pick up food. They do not price gouge and run between $6 and $10 for most dishes (which get more expensive at dinner time, FYI). Lastly, they offer a 10% discount to Oakland University students which is more than I can say for most other businesses in Auburn Hills. Thai eateries are always subjective as so many different places cook the food in so many different ways, but I've been to quite a few in my area and Thai Fortune is my personal favorite (so far). Really good food. One of the best I've been to (in my humble opinion). Very fast for pick-up and very reasonably priced. Take-out portions are much better than some of the other Thai places in the area. It gets packed quickly at lunch time, though. Get there near 11am when they open or wait until after the lunch rush. This is our go-to Thai restaurant in the area. For North Oakland county, it's about as good as you can get. Not award winning, but above average. Portions are huge and spice levels are high. Always order one spice level below what you want - can always add more spice to make it hotter, but can't take it away. I have been to the majority of Thai food places in Oakland County and must say that this ranks up towards the top of that highly competitive list. Great taste, spice level, and selection of items on their menu. They also give you gigantic proportions here. I would say that it is better for take out than eating in, but their service is always top notch either way too. All staff is very quick, attentive and friendly. This is our go to lunch place for Thai, better than all Thai places within 10 miles. Personally been here over 100 times, and haven't been disappointed. My favorite dish is fried rice #4 w/ Pineapple added. I prefer to arrive by 11:15am for lunch, the place is very busy when you arrive at noon but worth the wait! I've tried everything on the menu, Pad Thai Curry is another great dish you won't be disappointed with. When it comes to substitutions or tweaks to a dish, they are very flexible. The food here is really good and I have eaten a large share of thai being celiac and all rice noodles is my life. One reviewer said the spice level is indeed higher that typical american taste buds and he was spot on. Regular spicy is actually really freaking spicy not the dumb down version for americans spicy. Pad se ew was great prices very reasonable. Nothing fancy in the dining room or sudo takeout area. Place was packed so get there before noon or you are going to wait and there is no real place to wait. Gotta knock 1 star off for that. You get soup with everything. read more

I eat here frequently. The food is inexpensive, good and plentiful, I usually get two meals out of one. My personal favorite is the Gang Dang with Chicken, spiced Thai Hot. The service is fast, friendly and efficient. I have only a few times seen pepper flakes used to spice my food. Most of the time it is finely minced hot peppers. For those that complain because your favorite is not made the same way another place does, I haven't been to a Thai restaurant yet that makes things the same, even the sauces are often different. Look at the ingredients listed before ordering to be sure you are getting what you want rather than assume it is going to be the same as somewhere else's.. The furnishings are very plain so if you are going to have a conniption over that then this is not the place for you. If you like decent food and don't mind very casual atmosphere then this is a good place to eat. read more

I'm writing this as my food sits in front of me but I am questioning whether I want to eat much more of it. The prices here are good for the portion size, but the food is salt and spice and that's it for flavor. The tom ka soup was a salt bomb with no complexity of flavor that I get at many other thai places (such as lime, cilantro, ginger, garlic with the coconut milk and curry). A couple pieces of chicken in it (which I picked out) looked raw, so I cut into them and yep - raw in the middle. The pad thai curry was swimming in sauce and the noodles were very mushy. I asked for mushrooms instead of meat on the pad thai curry and only got 5 slices of mushroom in it. I couldn't taste the curry in it, either. Just salt and the red pepper flakes. They added a significant amount of pepper flakes for medium spicy, changing the texture of the dish to more gritty as well. I also got a huge mouthful of eggshell. Overall not an enjoyable experience, and I doubt I'll be back for seconds. Post-lunch update: I did not finish either the soup or the pad thai curry. I am usually a leftover fanatic, but I tossed what I had left because the thought of eating any more of it made me feel queasy. An hour later, I got sick. read more

Drunken noodles were made with dried basil flake and not fresh basil leaves like most other places use so that was disappointing. I added chicken to mine and all it had were little chicken specs. I'm not all that picky but this was pretty low. Not cheap either! It was still $10 for a cheap rip off of a drunken noodle dish. read more

I hate to be this harsh but the place is almost as disgusting as the food... it was extremely dirty, not to mention that little kids were running around in the kitchen. I ate maybe three bites of the sweet and sour shrimp and felt sick. When the waitress saw that I didn't eat it she said "yeah, most people don't like that". This is hands down the best Thai food around. I have tried Thai restaurants all over Michigan (I moved around a lot for a few years) trying to find Thai food as good as this place and had nothing but fail after fail after fail. My family and I have been going here since I was a small child. And my step mom will actually occasionally call in and pay for an order and then have me come pick it up (because I live near) and drive over an hour to her home and bring her the food from this restaurant because it is so good. It's kind of ridiculous if you think about it but that's how good their food is! And their hot and sour soup is the best I've ever had. EVER. This is my local Thai place. Their food is decent for the price. Menu does not include any Thai curries, which is disappointing. Inside dining area is small and sometimes occupied by the owner's children. Carry out is always fast and friendly - usually ready in 10 minutes or less. This place is simply delectable! I went here for lunch with a friend. We were warmly greeted, our server was very helpful. Pre meal, there's miso soup/ a salad with ginger dressing. They used fresh ingredients and had large portions. My bill came to 10.05. I highly recommend this dining experience. read more

This place is pretty good. The service can be hit or miss during the busy lunch rush. For around 9$ you get a bowl of soup with shrimp chips and an entree. The entree will come out on two plates. One for the rice and one for the food. Personally I love this concept. It felt only right to review their business, as I've been eating there regularly (VERY regularly) the past three months or so. I'll be honest, the reason I always go there is because it's right down the street, and is the closest thai place without any reasonable competition for that distinction. That being said, I have to say they are pretty spectacular any way you slice it. The first dish I got from them (the pad see ew) failed to impress, as I ordered it since it was my favorite dish from my last (and first, incidentally) favorite thai place. That was a mistake, as I've learned, not only from ordering many "familiar favorites" from them, but also from subsequently trying a multitude of thai restaurants, that no thai place has the same take on the same dish, and often the differences are stunning. I originally ordered a bunch of different things, intending to try them all, but got stuck on the thai fortune noodle, as it's simply too good to Not order when I'm going to get food from them. Perhaps there are other hidden gems on their menu, but I find it difficult to care, as their thai fortune noodle ranks among the best thai dishes I've ever had (as is appropriate for a dish you put your name to, I suppose). The things that impress most about them, though, are all the right things: Their prices- easily 10 to 30% lower than other thai places in the area. The quantity- there is no reasonable way you can eat all the food they give you in one sitting, as their portions are significantly above what I would normally expect to be considered "generous". Their service- I've never seen a place get carry out ready so quickly. It's truly stunning the first time you experience it. I took a friend there once on the way somewhere, convincing him it was worth the stop to grab some of their food, and his comments sum it up nicely- "wow, I was literally expecting it to take about twice as long as that". These things together make them an easy choice for a lunch break, or food to grab on your way home or on your way out. I wouldn't drive over 20 miles to get food from them, as that would take away some of their greatest features (price, after factoring in gas, and speed of service, after factoring in drive time) and would set yourself up for a disappointing experience, as once those factors are taken out of consideration they are not Significantly above the quality of competing thai food places. But if you are have the 'fortune' of living, working, or going to school near this place, you should try them out, as you may easily find yourself a frequent customer shortly thereafter. read more

A hidden gem. This is undoubtedly my favorite Thai restaurant in the area! The eat-in area is somewhat shabby, but it's all about the food with this place. Their Hot & Sour soup is the best around, but admittedly not a common Thai soup style (You'll understand once you try it). Great food. Interior is not fancy but always clean and very nice family owned restaurant. When you eat in the restaurant you get Thai soup to start then your main course.
