Never knew this place existed but now know the best Thai restaurant around. Lunch specials are $7 and come with rice, soup, and salad. We ordered the Thai egg rolls as an app, cashew nut, and pad se ew (both with tofu). The soup was tom yum and just pleasantly spicy. The dressing on the salad was unique and tasty. The tofu was prepared just right along with the noodles and veggies. I imagine this is the Thai food one would get if eating in Thailand. Do check out the decorations. Beautiful tapestries and buddhas and pictures. Water is served automatically upon being seated so no need to order a drink. Extra star rating for Square. Now they don't take just cash. We randomly stopped at this place before catching a movie at the Cineplex in the same mall and we were blown away! I love Thai food and to my taste, this is surely the best I've had in the greater Santa Cruz area - super flavorful, fresh and quite spicy. We had spring rolls, Basil Pork and green beans with chicken and all were elegantly presented and ample. On top of that, the prices were extremely reasonable (dinner for 2 with each of us having an ample glass of Chardonnay came to $40 total!) In addition, service was really, really fast and extremely friendly. We only had about 45 minutes for dinner before our movie but we were done w/ 15 minutes to spare, and we didn't hurry. read more

This is a hidden off the-beaten-trail place. You don't really see it from the road, but worth going to for sure. Its' run by one man and his wife, they make ALL the food themselves, and you can tell they put their heart and soul into their small restaurant. They are humble, and take care of the customers. I was quite disappointed eating here for dinner last night after having read the positive reviews. There was no one to lead my party to our table, so we had to seat ourselves after 15 minutes of waiting. I ordered a tofu Pad Kee Mao, which was pungent due to the bamboo shoots in them. The dish should have been cooked in a larger wok on higher heat. Pad Kee Mao noodles are typically wider as well. The egg rolls were overly mushy inside, and the Thai Tea was average. My friends rated their dishes 2.5 stars. As someone who loves Thai food, I would not recommend Thai Heart and will not be returning to this restaurant. read more

This place has everything going for it with great Thai food, and a friendly and wonderful owner who also waits tables. It is a little on the small side but that also can be a big draw for some people. The price is about the same as everywhere else, as are the portions, but the flavor and freshness outshine the competition and by far add to the experience. The service is also excellent. This owner has transformed the old buffet style to a comfortable restaurant with a dog friendly patio. Our initial opinion was formed by the wonderfully smell of 41 Garlic Pepper cooking. The owner, our server, was very attentive and helpful. We had the 12 Tom-Sum soup, I requested not to hot. Was very flavorful without burning. My husband had the 51 Pad Thai. Downside (in a way is) it's hard to find, pocketed away in an alcove in the Walgreen's part of Scotts Valley Shopping Center. Once you've found it tho you are treated to a quiet oasis of nice plantings, outdoor tables. Not like you're in a strip mall at all!! Thai Heart has been there for a year now, replacing the previous restaurant that was not popular. A reversal of fortune for the Santa Cruz, San Lorenzo Valley area! They take only cash/checks. This place was amazing! A husband and wife own this restaurant. They compliment each other as she cooks the delicious food and he serves it. We had the pad thai with shrimp and the egg rolls. They were delicious and we loved the sweet and hot flavor of the pad thai. I really can't wait to go back! It was such a great surprise to find this wonderful restaurant in the little shopping center. I was visiting my parents that live in Scotts Valley. The restaurant is one of their favorites! Been here twice in the past couple of months, both times with a group of 5 or 6. The food and service were great! Everything came out piping hot and the waiter/owner was so accommodating and helpful with suggestions and descriptions. We walked in the restaurant the moment the host looked at us, he rolled his eyes and sighed. Then he told us to follow him in an annoyed voice and told us that we could not order from lunch menu that it had to be from the dinner menu. At that point we decided not to even eat there because they obviously didn't want us there. He was actually happy that we decided not to stick around. I had lunch here today and it was just very mediocre Thai food at best. I had the spicy noodles with chicken lunch special and the noodles were okay, not very flavorful and just a couple of green beans and a small slice of zucchini for veggies and the little bit of Thai basil leaves they used for some flavor were really strong. This was served with a tiny scoop of rice and a little bit of iceberg lettuce with a very thin peanut sauce as a salad and some very thin watery soup with a slight sweet and sour flavor. The price wasn't terrible for the lunch and the service was okay. I did make the mistake of ordering an order of egg rolls to go with this. There were eight or so tiny greasy fried "egg rolls", more of a miniature version of spring rolls really, with very little filling and they were six buck. For an order of egg rolls that cost almost as much as the lunch special I was expecting something much more substantial. Anyway, if you are in the area I reccomend finding an alternative food source. read more

We were hungry after visiting Roaring Camp Railroad and Yelp led me to this excellent restaurant. It was the middle of the afternoon, so it wasn't busy. In fact we had the restaurant to ourselves. We were greeted by the very friendly waiter/owner and were told to pick a seat anywhere. I've been to a lot of Thai restaurants all over the bay area, and I must say the food here is among the best Thai food I've ever had. Everything was delicious! On top of the that the service was superb and the owner (who runs the restaurant with his wife the chef) was extremely friendly and we all chatted a bit too while he served our food. After our meal he even packaged our food up for us in boxes, and then he brought out a couple cool toys for my 2 year old to play with before we headed out. Came here for a meal before a movie and was totally disappointed. The man seating us didn't know the menu and didn't get our order right. I had the BBQ pork and all I got was 5 pieces of thin stringy meat with some random lettuce thrown on a plate. Excited about these reivews, stopped by for lunch, didn't work for me. Had the Pad Thai pork, order the Thai egg rolls. The Pad didn't have a lot of flavor, pretty bland. The soup that came with it had way too much vinegar, no balance. The pork was quite dry, way over cooked. Egg rolls were ok, but again not much flavor. Used to a little more boldness with my Thai. They sure seem to use the microwave a lot. read more

Food: 1. Beef Thai salad was spicy and had a lot of flavor, but the beef tasted a bit dry and chewy. 2. Red curry was delicious, one of the best curry I have had in a long time!!! And the portion was generous compared to a lot of other Thai places. 3. Pad Thai was just ok, kinda on the sweeter side. It hit the spot, but I have had better. The shrimp is from one of those previously frozen and thawed packages and the noodles seemed a bit overcooked To be fair, my friend liked the pad Thai though. 4. The Thai iced tea was on the sweeter side, which might please some customers. Personally, I just prefer it a bit lighter. 5. The brown dried chilli on table is awesome, very authentic and spicy!! I put some in my curry and pad Thai, which enhanced the flavors even more! I have only seen the red dried chilli, but never brown chilli. Definitely a big fan of this. 6. Pineapple fried rice was very good! Lots of flavors, definitely multi-dimensional! 7. Papaya salad is yummy!! Medium spicy Service: service and food wait time quite slow!! The 4 of us had to wait about 30 min to get our food. They definitely need more cooks in back. They even forgot our drinks. The server was very nice though. Decor: the purple painted walls is a bit strange, but the place does have a unique look. I don't mind decor as long as food is good and place is clean. I was glad to see bathroom well maintained and clean. I will definitely give this place a try again, probably during a non-busy time slot. read more
