Pleasantly surprised! They have stiff competition with Kao Sook (aka Sabieng), which is among my favorite restaurants (let alone Thai) in the Santa Cruz area. The Pad Thai is the standard first order for me from a Thai place when I try it out and I had the lunch special. Perfectly cooked, lots of fresh veggies.. and I enjoyed the small side salad and rice as well. HUGE step up from the disaster of a Thai restaurant that resided in the space before. I'm always on the look out for places to eat lunch in Scotts Valley and I'll be back. Next time I'll try a curry dish. Service was quick and attentive as well. Thai Heart is a huge improvement over the prior (unrelated) Thai restaurant at this spot, which once was "Tucson Taqueria"!!!. We had a Friday-night dinner with "fresh rolls" (lovely, minty spring rolls @$6), Pad Thai (chose chicken @$9), and Stir-Fried Mixed Vegetables (chose calamari @$11), plus a small bowl of brown rice ($2) to share. Every dish was freshly made and cooked; nothing tasted warmed-up or leftover. The Pad Thai seemed a little too sweet, but the calamari with the vegetables was "just right". We especially enjoyed the decor and the peaceful atmosphere here. The food at Kao Sook across the street is also very good, but it always seems noisy, crowded, and rushed. At Thai Heart, the male half of the owner couple handles the myriad duties at the front of the house with humor, grace, and efficiency. The other owner, his wife, is busy with the chef duties. There is a LOT of carry-out, much of which is ordered on the spot instead of being phoned in. This takes time away from the seated customers. In handling both the inside and the outside, the front of the house is spread pretty thin. Why not 5 stars? The outdoor patio with its odd assortment of round tables and chairs is not getting any better. Dogs seem to be welcome, which bothers me a bit, and I don't know the local ordinances regarding dogs at a restaurant (unless they are guide or companion animals). Also, there is a crowded room at the back with many supplies stacked helter-skelter. You don't see this unless you use the restrooms (which were 100% out of soap the night we were there). Also, at least two of the tables in the right-hand dining room had newspapers, business accounts, and other items scattered across the tops. We definitely want to go back to try the curry and the desserts. There is nothing wrong with the food at Thai Heart. By the way, the owners are now accepting checks as well as cash. read more

I don't know why I didn't come here earlier. This place is really good. The waiter that I had was very friendly. He helped me decide what to get by showing me their most popular options. When they brought the Pad Thai out it had a cute little cut out carrot in the shape of a flower on the side of it. I also ordered one of their sweet Thai teas. It was all delicious! This is probably the best restaurant in Scotts Valley. Not that there's a lot of competition, but still, it's very good! It is definitely family owned and run. The service is always friendly and usually very quick. Sometimes when they get busy, it is hard for the very limited staff to handle, but it is a very minor inconvenience to suffer for the pleasure of dining at a true family establishment. The prices are very reasonable and the food is tasty. My wife and I particularly enjoy their potstickers, the various bbq dishes, the pad krapow, and the garlic pepper pork. The owner of this new restaurant used to work at another restaurant in town and it was there that I came to know him as an excellent waiter. So it was my pleasure to find out that he and his wife now own and run this place. This is definitely my new favorite lunch spot. Two of us had a great, tasty lunch for under $20. It was all good. And because I have been in there several times now, I have had the opportunity to try a few different items, each of which have been great. I don't like spicy food, and nothing has been too spicy for me, though I am sure that if I wanted it to be, I could have it that way. With all the great reviews I was disappointed. The service was great, as was the thai tea. The shrimp rolls were tasty but too expensive. The green curry was not that flavorful. It's a small family owned restaurant with only a few people working so don't expect super fast service. They're friendly and working hard so be patient and appreciate their effort. This place is so cute! As soon as you walk in you are greeted by statues of Buddha. The decor of the restaurant reminded me of being in Thailand- it was wall to wall with authentic pieces of art. I could have spent 30 minutes just staring at all of it. We came on a Saturday night around 8:30PM and the place was empty. It was just the two of us and the server who was so friendly. He took was so attentive and served everything with a smile. As soon as we ordered he rushed back to the kitchen to help prepare the food and when it came out we were not disappointed. We ordered the Pad Thai and Green Curry. Everything came out piping out and was so tasty! The Green Curry had so many different vegetables and had a good spicy kick to it. The Pad Thai was the perfect mix of sweet, sour and spicy. The sprouts mixed in also provided that much needed refreshing crunch. I would definitely come back here! read more

This is the second time that I've been to Thai Heart. I find Thai Heart lovely but there are a few dishes to note. First, the pad Thai, I would say that this is one of my favorite dishes. I would give it a 9/10 since there could have been a bit more flavor but we found the texture, tofu, and sweetness up to par. The other dish we tried was the chicken satay and we would give this a 8/10 since we found that that other than the chicken flavor there wasn't more that the dish offered. We were left waiting for a more sweet flavor. Very notably, the egg rolls were bland and lacked a lot of flavor and we found that hat the spring rolls were in fact frozen. Next were the fresh rolls which we would give a 7/10 since the mint was on point! So refreshing definitely stays up to par with the name! The reason I take off a few points for the fresh rolls is because the peanut sauce was chunky and didn't have a nice consistency to it. The fried rice is definitely something I would recommend since the the flavor, texture, and sweetness complimented the dish almost perfectly. Definitely 10/10! Next dish we tried was the yellow vegetable curry which had a great coconut flavor paired with great vegetables. We would give this dish 9/10 since there were a bit too many vegetables and we wanted to taste more of the gravy to the curry. So overall, we would recommend Thai Heart and I would definitely come again to try more! But without the egg rolls! :) read more

Love this place. Family run (husband and wife team). Delicious Thai good. Love the basics like their fried rice and spicy noodle. The chicken salad (Larb) is soo good and the coconut (Tom kha) soup is the best in the area. I have also really enjoyed the mixed vegetables and many of the other sautéed dishes. The curries are good too! We seem to go here a least twice a month so I'm still experimenting with new items and hitting up my favorites. They are very accommodating for gluten intolerance and dairy intolerance. I was elated to be able to have Thai tea again because they were able to sub in coconut milk for the cream! read more
