There are 2 or 3 Pho-like noodle/broth bowls that blow everything else in town away. Some are naturally hot-as-hell and a few you can dial up as 'needed', but generally speaking 3 star-spice outta 5 is hot enough for most...and given the clearing of my upper respiratory and sweat-bead at the top of my forehead, count me among them. I've been here twice and loved the food. The second time I was here it was around 5-5:30 on a Saturday. We were able to get a table fast and order quickly. The problem was that we waited an extremely long time for our food. The waitress was great in making sure our drinks were refilled. The pineapple fried rice was delicious. I love the pineapples as they were juicy. I always love rice and this is my go to whenever I go to a Thai restaurant. I do wish it was bigger but it was still satisfying. I go to Thai house a lot for their good food. I usually get the tum yum (hot pot and noodle soup), green curry, and pad thai. Tum yum is my favorite. I tried No.40 noodle soup this time. It was delicious at first, but after consuming 2/3 of the food, it would be like any other fish at Thai House-the flavor is too strong and single for you to continue. Best Thai food I've ever had, including in NYC, LA, Chicago, and other big cities. Really can't go wrong, but I usually get Pad See Ew or Mussaman Curry. Appetizer platter is also really yummy. We usually do takeout, because you will be here well over an hour if you sit down. Very slow service. Food still makes this worth 5 stars. Closed on Mondays! Update: knocking this down to four stars. Their phone is always busy when you try to order pick up at dinner time. They have no online service and aren't part of Door Dash or Uber Eats. Everything was going great till they forgot the chicken. They offered to throw my perfectly cooked mixed vegetables back on the heat to add the chicken. The chef refused to cook me my chicken until the waiter told her I was on a restricted diet. The chicken came steamed like rubber. Then I was double charged for the tardy chicken. Seven years ago we moved away from Illinois, and last week we moved back. The Thai House was one of our first dinners when we got back. I was shocked by like how on point the taste was... kinda similar to Taste of Thai in Florida. If anyone has ever been to taste of thai it is phenomenal. I ordered the pad kee mow, asked for it to be THAI hot.... for those who loves spicy foods, I dare you to try Thai hot. my friend ordered the tom yum and a couple other items that was not on their regular menu. On the weekends they stick to a solid menu with simple items, but if you go on the weekdays where they're not as busy, you can ask for Thai items that are more delicate and they take longer to perfect but they do a wonderful job of it. My opinion on the Thai tea, it is a bit too sweet, I like it sweet enough but man they dump the whole bag of sugar in mine or something. Their thai iced coffee is good on the other hand. If anyone is around Bloomington area and you're craving for some good thai food, stop by here. I have never been a huge fan of any type of Asian cuisine. My girlfriend, on the other hand, is big fan of Asian food. She has gone to Thai House with friends but has wanted me to go. I decided that I would give it a try. I was not a big fan of the first dish I tried. I was willing to go with her again anyway. I finally ordered the Pineapple Fried Rice. This dish is amazing. You get your choice of chicken, beef, pork, vegetable, or tofu. The chicken works well with the dish so I order that exclusively. The dish also includes slice onions, bell peppers, chunks of pineapple and cashew nuts (Keep this in mind if you have an allergy). The best part is the presentation! I was excited to see my food was served inside a hollowed out half of a pineapple. Now it's one of my favorite dishes. The only issues I have had at the Thai House is the customer service could be better but then again the service isn't horrible. read more

I have been to Thai House many times. Now that I have moved back to Bloomington it will be a frequent stop for me. I always order the same two things. I start with the Tom Kha Kai soup. I love the coconuttiness, it's perfect. Then for my entree I always go with the Mussamon (sp?) Curry with Tofu instead of meat or seafood. I'm not a vegetarian, I just prefer my curry with Tofu. I LOVE the sweet potatoes in this stuff. I usually wind up taking half of it home, because after the soup I can not finish all of the curry. The Thai fortune rolls you get with the check are yummy too, much better than boring ol' fortune cookies at a Chinese place if ya ask me! We all gave two thumps down. #3 - Surprisingly nice. This friend had real Thai foods in Thailand so when he gave one thump up, we all gave additional thumps up. Me - Duck curry was nice but not "wow! this is amazing". Eating Thai for over 15 years... I can say I had better but since we are in Bloomington, IL I will say it was better than I expected? But I have to say something about Pad Ke Mao. This is the most common dish when you visit Thai place. Simply when you order the most basic & common dish and nothing like what you had... I normally give two thumps down. It was too salty & too sweet. The noodles were all too fat & looks like a pig skin (my friend asked me if I was eating pig skin not knowing I was eating noodle). I had to send the dish back & asked them to make it less sweet & salty also little spicier. When it cam back, it was better than before but still salty & still two thumps down. Would my friend & I come back? Probably not... definitely not for any noodle dish or beef. But for curry & fried rice, we would. Oh... never mind. We just moved here from a place that has a lot of good to excellent Thai food restaurants and so we tried this place with great hope and foolish optimism. It's really, REALLY awful. We tried 4 different dishes to get a fair sampling and it was very, very clear from the start that these folks are cooking CHINESE FOOD (not even good Chinese food) with a little sugar, chile pepper and thai basil thrown in there for effect. The smell, the taste, the look...completely wrong and very unappetizing. I guess we'll be learning to cook our own Thai food. read more

As usual, Bloomington Thai House delivered a great meal. Lunch with my visiting dad and the hoard of his children that live in the area, we came here without a reservation for a weekend lunch. We were seated quickly and all had water immediately. Appetizers: We ordered the chicken satay and eggrolls. The satay was delicious, though over priced for only four skewers, even if the pieces of meat were larger. Personally, the eggrolls tasted weird, more of what I would expect from a Chinese restaurant roll (maybe I wasn't expecting the meat). Others at the table enjoyed them however. Meal: My best friend, comfort in times of happiness and sadness, a food that woos my mind, heart and soul, the chicken fried rice. And it was f*cking delicious. Unfortunately, I'd shoved numerous apps down the hatch and I could only finish half. Fortunately, it reheats like a beauty. Double delicious. **For first timers, the outside of the building and area look a bit sketchy. Buck up and go for it, because you won't regret it. Besides if you need proof of cleanliness, there is a large window looking into the kitchen in the hallway on the way to the bathroom. Thai iced tea was nice and sweet. Had Pad Thai and was pleased with the flavor. They put the crushed peanuts on the side of the dish for me to spread over. Noodles were not as wide as some I've had but the flavor was decent. Portion was just right and left enough to take home. A definite Thai favorite of mine is Tom Ka Gai soup. Theirs was labeled "Tom Ka Kai" (coconut chicken soup). I have tried this soup every time I go to a Thai restaurant and ieach place makes it a bit different. Thai houses' was sweeter vs spicy or brothy, and it had a nice strong lemongrass taste; chicken and whole mushrooms and onion slices I think. Went at 5:30/45 on a Sat night and first seemed too quiet. Then it filled up quick! Staff was friendly. Restaurant is small/med in size. Easy to find off of Morrissey Drive, not too far from Oakland. I think used to be the original/first Steak 'n Shake building. Interior is simple, typical with lots of plants. Having spent time in Thailand I tried a Thai phrase on my server but then she said that she was not from Thailand LOL. Good food for a first visit. Most of my experience with Thai restaurants are up in the western Chicagoland area. So I was decently impressed with the quality for the B-N area. Look forward to trying it again. read more

The servers were friendly and were very prompt on refilling my water lol. they had plenty of vegetarian options, i got the lunch special pad thai and for lunch it comes with skinny noodles but the flavor was still good. i would definitely come back in the future and recommend this place to others. read more
