Give it a rare 5 stars cause have not been disappointed here yet. Now if you arrive during prime time dining hours it may take a while to get your food (hint order one of their delicious appetizers) but it is well worth the wait. I have only tried a couple of the big bowl soups the Jmamp pong (sic?) is one if the best soups I have ever had full of fresh seafood noodles and veggies can be ordered spicy or not. For soup very big portion did not go away hungry. I have also tried the big bowl with the ground pork and thin rice noodles which was also excellent. My wife had the cashew shrimp dish with rice and loved it as well. Service was friendly and quite adequate for a busy hour. This place is either fantastic or terrible, depending on when you go and who waits on you. Most of the time it's good but they get some "to go" orders wrong and I'm on the other side of town so can't easily just go back. Even eating in, they will sometimes refuse a request such as "no water chestnuts, I'm allergic" but other times are more than happy to accommodate. It's the only Thai place in town now so I guess if I want Thai food, I don't have a choice but I can't say your experience will be great. It might be awful but it could also be wonderful. I was in Bloomington on business and looking to try something new. Thai House was a pleasant surprise that was different from the usual chain restaurants. I got their Gyoza, which was hand made and packed with protein - good flavor (although it could have used a little more flavor or spice for my taste). Seeing as it was Thai Food I had to try the Pad Thai (chicken). It was good and the flavor snuck up on me - more flavorful at the end than at the start. Admittedly, my experience was impacted by the act that I used a delivery service - so the noodles felt a little overdone and not as much bite as I would like. We have done carry out 2 times within 6 months from this restaurant and both times we received almost NO food in our carry out containers. We spent over $50 and we were ALL still hungry. I really want to support local businesses but not when we're getting ripped off. That would be like going to Panera, ordering a whole sandwich, paying for a whole sandwich, but then only receiving a half. I'm also concerned because the kitchen was super dirty and so was the entire inside dining area. We will never go back. Very disappointed in the only Thai restaurant in town. I hope we get another Thai place soon worth it's salt. This place has the market cornered and it's truly unfortunate. I even called before placing our 3rd order to let them know how little food we received the last 2 times and they could have cared less. The Thai house is a true gem in Bloomington. You can't go wrong with the pad thai, definitely the best in the area. I also had the Tom Kha soup and the cashew chicken stir fry and both were delicious! The food always takes a bit of a wait, but you quickly understand why once you taste the food. My friend took all of us highly recommending this place, so we all decided to go for lunch. we were all 7 people and most of us ordered fried rice.two of our friends got wrong order and we said we would replace that with shrimp fried rice. The guy who took the order and the women bought the food both were literally arguing with us and finally she said she would charge $4 extra for shrimp fried rice. Best Thai food I've had to date! Chicken Pad Thai and Yellow Curry are our go-to items. Crispy Duck is great as well!

So let's start with the food (when you can get it)is awesome! But come on the wrong day (too busy or something) and you get the lunch menu for dinner. Except as a vegetarian most of the good food is on the expanded menu. The curry puffs and non fried rolls are great if they are available. And we love the papaya salad when they can get the right ingredients in. We are visiting Bloomington Il from Texas and went to this restaurant after reading a lot of reviews. We wanted to get Vietnamese Spring Rolls but it looks like they only serve it over the weekends. We ordered Fried Spring rolls, Green Curry with steamed rice, Spicy Eggplant with Tofu, and my daughter ordered Pad Thai. All these dishes were extremely tasty and tasted authentic. Found this place based on yelpers' reviews and wasn't disappointed. I love that the servers take such pride in their food and are dressed to the nines. This place has that authentic feel with its elephants and jeweled photos. The beef sticks with their sweet-spicy sauce were da bomb! Initially when we went there, the food was pretty good. After going there several times, their standards have declined. Usually we dine in however we decided to do a take out and I got the Tom yum pad Thai with tofu. After bring it home, all I had was noodles with no vegetables or tofu. I was so disappointed that I didn't even feel like eating it. The other item we got was fried rice which tasted flavorless. Definitely not going back here. My girlfriend and I order from here religiously every weekend. We get the Pad thai & pork gyoza it is always soooo good and spicy!! They're not messing around. First time we ordered it "spicy" and that was too much. Now we get "a little bit a spicy" and "medium spicy" and it's perfect. Love that they have so many heat options. Only problem I've ever encountered is sometimes when I call to order I'll get a busy signal for long periods of time as if they only have one phone line. read more

I've been there twice (based upon the strength of these reviews) and have concluded that 'meh' is complimentary. I am not a food snob by any means and appreciate cheap eats, but this place is not high quality. Thai House is fast food. Period. It is fine for what it is, but it is not good Thai food, its merely adequate. I suppose that my rating suffers by comparing this restaurant to other Thai restaurants in other cities (Champaign has much better options) and not merely comparing it to the only remaining Thai joint in town, which I think is comparable, not necessarily better or worse. To me, the Tom Kha was not very flavorful, and the coconut completely overpowered what should be a complex dish. This may be due to the ingredients being less than fresh. My experience with their curries (mine and another patron's that I tried) was very similar: meh. The standard Asian fast-food staple of Crab Rangoons were adequate, but not any better than one would expect. The seafood selection was very poor (I understand and accept that this is the Midwest, and its gonna be frozen, but a Thai place should have a lot of seafood on the menu), and the spice level was very cautious: I asked for spicy food and got what I would consider mild-medium. The service was good. I don't mean to be condescending about it, but think that if a really good Thai restaurant set up shop in Bloomington, it would change a lot of opinions. read more

Thai House was recommended to me so I gave it a shot. I was a little hesitant though since no one I talked to in Bloomington (including my hotel's concierge) had ever heard of it. I guess that might be because it's on a small street that's a bit rundown. But I gave it a shot anyway. The first time I went by it was closed that day. I went back the next day (I would not be denied!). The restaurant is actually pretty decent inside - do not judge a book by its cover. I had a seat and ordered. I had a Thai iced tea, spring rolls, and a spicy beef dish with vegetables (can't recall the name). I had forgotten that I don't like Thai iced tea (ha!) - it just has an odd flavor to me and I found it incredibly sweet. But I can't really comment on how their tea is. The spring rolls were good, but not particularly noteworthy. The beef dish was good and spicy, but a little too simplistic I think. I would recommend it though. The server I had was good with one exception - he gave me good directions...to the completely wrong place! I'm not from Bloomington so I had to ask for directions to a movie theatre. I found the theatre (the actual directions were good), but he had sent me to the wrong theatre (the one on the west side of town)! Luckily, I was able to get directions to the correct theatre (the one on the east side near the airport) from the manager at that theatre by awkwardly explaining to them that I was trying to go see a movie at a competitor's theatre. I mean, he's a young guy (maybe late high school or college) and he doesn't know where the movie theatres in town are? I don't hold that against the restaurant though. /tangent Frankly, this place is good (and may be really good for Bloomington standards) but it is far from a 5-star Thai restaurant. A lot of people here seem to be talking about pad thai and while their pad thai may be great, I just don't think that's really a good indicator of the quality of a restaurant. We Chicagoans were in Bloomington seeing some friends. I found this restaurant by asking a pal what he recommended as off the beaten path. He said Thai House was the best Thai food he had ever eaten, definitely the best in Bloomington. By Chicago standards I would call this an average-to-good Thai restaurant, and I was very happy to have found it. Otherwise we would have been eating in a Chilis or some other standard chain restaurant that night. The interior is spacious, well-lit, clean and pleasant. The food was all good. I had both iced tea and iced coffee (need the caffeine). Appetizer: vegetable rolls (a bit burned unfortunately), and Tom Kha Kai soup. Green Curry as my entree. Debbie had the Cashew Chicken. Easily the best Thai restaurant in the Bloomington-Normal area. Its location may seem a little weird or intimidating, but don't fear! This place is authentic. The hallway leading to the bathrooms has large glass windows where you can see into their kitchen! Love that. Amazing flavors, beautiful decor. Relaxing atmosphere. I have tried: Papaya Salad, Su-Mai, Pad Khing, Pad Kra Prao, Yellow Curry and Shrimp Pad Thai. I recommend ALL of them! Coincidentally, I was in B/N again for work, by myself, with a HUGE Bulls game (maybe Thai House is good luck, because the Bulls dominated both games). I ordered take-out during halftime, and, as with most Thai places, they were speedy and efficient--just what I was looking for. I ordered the crab rangoon, which was good, although I remembered it being MUCH better. They seemed to have skimped on some of the filling this time around. For my entree, I ventured away from my "go-to" panang curry, and went for the combo pad thai. It's been awhile since I've had pad thai, but, I thought it was outstanding!! I really wanted to like Thai House. There's not a lot of choice for this type of food in Central Illinois. Last night, though, means I won't be going back. The last time I was here, last year, I had larb - it's a ground meat salad. It was a little salty, which I expected since it's made with nam pla, an extremely salty fish sauce, but it was good, and last night I was looking forward to having it again. The larb I had last night, though, was ASTOUNDINGLY - almost revoltingly - salty. It tasted like it had fish sauce PLUS a pile of salt on top. My mouth was burning for more than an hour after the two bites I had. It'd be one thing if my bad experience with the larb ended there - but it didn't. I told my server about how salty it was. I did appreciate that she was willing to take the larb off the bill, but she insisted that it was always made this way! This was despite the fact that I said I'd had it before, at this very restaurant, and it hadn't been this way. I wasn't offered a plate of larb made differently, the larb wasn't taken away, and I wasn't offered a new plate (though I would probably have gotten a new one if I'd decided it was worth asking). My girlfriend's panang curry, on the other hand, was delicious. It came with a generous amount of kaffir lime peel, and it was rich, with plenty of coconut cream. The appetizers, poh peah sod (tofu/cucumber rolls with a chili honey sauce) and curry bites (sort of like samosas, served with a vinegary sauce) were also tasty. These other dishes were good enough that I decided to give two stars instead of just one. Finally, to add insult to injury, they ended up charging me for the larb after all, and I had to ask for it to be taken off the check again. The whole evening was a really awkward experience. UPDATE--They've got quite a few new dishes and the one I can't get over is the Kao Soy. I've gotten it to go three times now and I need to ask them to take off the basil leaves because certainly fresh basil can be pretty strong.(there's easy 5-7 fresh basil leaves just thrown on top). Long and short, peeling off the basil and just munching on the rest? Well, it's really amazing!!!** Thai House is pretty delish. I think it can be viewed as a bit pricey, but you really get a LOT of food-I'd be willing to guarantee that you'll have enough for a second meal as left over. Appetizers that are sure to appeal to most--chicken gyoza, satay and cucumber salads. Good FRESH flavors! Pad Thai is on par with other Thai restaurants...so if you've never gone out for Thai, you can't go wrong there. I'd say it's the Thai version of Chinese lo mein--it's pretty consistent from restaurant to restaurant. If you're feeling adventurous, the panang curry melts in your mouth. Be cautious though, there's no joke that theirs is SPICY (and I can kill some spice). But, no worries, the Thai House can make anything from mild to mouth on fire...you just have to ask! :o) The pho soup is the same regarding the spice. One hiccup? Because they make stuff to order (as best I can tell), you can potentially be waiting. I typically get it to go and the last few times I was told 15-20...then when I got there I was waiting another 10-20. So, their estimates on when things will be cooked are a little slow (I think it's a combination of how popular they are and their very courteous yet young staff). I have been meaning to go to the Thai House since it opened, but for one reason or another, have not made till last night. I was not disappointed. I got the Thai Egg rolls and the Pad Thai w/pork. Both were delicious! But I do have to say I expected the Thai Egg Rolls to be bigger for the price ($4.50 for 2) Aside from that, I was very pleased with my experience. Thai House is one of two very good Thai places in Bloomington. The only down side is how small of a location they have. You may experience a long wait to sit down and to get food. About four years ago there weren't any Thai restaurants in Bloomington, then three emerged all at once. In my opinion, Thai House is the best of the three. The location is a bit odd, but they have done a really nice job with decorating the space they have. I am no Thai food expert, but I have loved everything that I have tried here. The chicken pad thai is fantastic! I now crave it all the time. I always try the pad thai now when I go to new restaurants and have never found any to be as satisfying. I immediately noticed the decor when I walked into the restaurant. It's gorgeously decorated, with a lot of great art and very competent centerpieces. In short, I was ready to be impressed. My favorite Thai place (Bangkok) was closed for the night so my wife and I decided to give this one a try. Sadly, the food was disappointing - but only in comparison to Bangkok.
