I got the green tofu curry lunch special here (but I didn't get anything but my entree)... It was good, but their tofu is very chewy. I would steer clear of that. There's also a lady that works there who was very rude. I saw a customer asked for something and she walked away and literally huffed and puffed and mumbled something under her breath. Place is hit or miss. I usually order the Panang Curry for delivery. Sometimes it's perfect, sometime it's overcooked; the coconut milk is burned and chicken becomes rubber. When it's good, it's one of the best Thai places in the city, but it's I consistently has ruined a few nights. read more

They have excellent Crab Rangoon!! If you love Crab Rangoon you will love theirs. If you are not familiar with Crab Rangoon, become familiar with it immediately!!! hehe. Anyways they have pretty awesome Thai food too. They have Japanese food and Sushi on the weekends though and it's not very good at all, the sushi is dry and it's pretty pricey. If you stick to the Thai food and Crab Rangoon though you should have a great experience with this place. My favorite Quick Thai spot in the city. I'm simple. Beef Pad Se Eiw, Satay and Peanut Sauce, and Crab Rangoon. All 3 here are the best I've had in Chicago, especially the Rangoon. Absolutely phenomenal. Big, delicate and super crispy with more complex than usual sweet chili sauce. They're also AA miles affiliated, so bonus time. read more

I really like this Thai restaurant; its great for a quick dinner or for pick-up. One of my favorite dishes on the menu is the Keemow Noodles (made with CRISPY noodles - the crispy part is key). This is one of the only thai places I know that does that - it adds a touch of texture to the noodles that I really enjoy! Its the perfect mix of spicy and savory for me. The pad thai was good, however it wasn't the best I've had. The lunch specials are a great deal and would recommend trying this place out during lunch (however its dine-in only). This is a much, much better bet for take-out. Believe me. It gets crowded in the evening and the waitstaff (though obviously trying their best) really struggles to cope. It always seems like there are only about three people to do the cooking, serving, cleaning and manning the cash register. The food is great though which is why I keep coming back. Portions are gibongous and soooo yummy. I recommend the green curry (HOT) with chicken or the pad kee mow with crispy noodles. Can't endorse it. I went here and tried the pad thai and kra prow chicken- usually my favorite basil, garlic, chili love sauce...not so here..and I asked for spicy and got not any where near spicy. The noodles were too sweet for me and did have the strange flavor quality that Kate G described. That being said - every thai restaurant seems to have it's specialty dish and maybe I just haven't discovered it. I can see how it would be a good introductory "welcome to thai food" experience because the flavors aren't "over the top" with fish sauce or anything- but I love me some fish sauce. If I lived around the corner- I wouldn't feel bad about ordering from here. Didn't mind the cups for byob wine but the cold air from the door got to me. read more

the boy and i went here on a rainy friday night and snagged the much coveted window seat. the interior is cozy and nicely decorated, but a bit cramped. we ordered thai spring rolls to start and were somewhat underwhelmed by the tiny portion, but hey, it was only about 2 bucks. here's where it kinda goes downhill. after ordering our main dishes (standard stuff, nothing fancy), we waited 20+ minutes for the food to arrive and were pretty much ignored by our sever(s). granted, it was a friday night, but its not like the line was spilling out the door or anything. its too bad the service sucked, because the food was delicious. i ordered a vegetable soup with chicken, which came in a big bowl and was packed with real veggies (not just one or two stray broccoli pieces and a mess of mushrooms like some restaurants serve). my boy had lemongrass chicken which was nicely spiced and quite tasty. again, with better service this place could be fabulous. read more

Darn! I wanted to like this place! We just got dinner for two delivered. My fiance's meal (green curry) was good an prepared just as ordered, but mine was a big fail. I had a vegetarian entree dish and they totally forgot the tofu, which was the main feature of the dish. I called to let them know and they offered to credit me for our next order. I asked if they could refund instead, but that was not an option. Besides forgetting the tofu, I'd say that the vegetables in my dish were just not special, or prepared very well. A few pieces of cauliflower, green beens, red bell peppers, and something which I think is radish....not the most special thai veggies I can think of. So I hope to change my opinion if we eat there again! read more

wow, has this place gone downhill. We hadn't had it in a while, and we were excited to try it again, but it stunk. first the food- edible, but nothing special. tofu and cucumber salad had no cucumbers. all the tofu was dry, like it had been cooked days ago. Noodles were so so. no fresh veggies in the veggie dishes. We used to dream of coming here, the food was so good. i guess i should have looked at the recent reviews. I would have given the food 2-3 stars, but the delivery sealed the 1 star. at 7, we were told an hour, after an hour and a half with no food, we were told it would be there any minute. at the two hour mark, 9pm, he shows up with our food- missing one of the dishes, and another one incorrect. They tell me he'll bring it right away. I give him a nice top, hoping he'll hurry back. I live less than 2 miles, straight shot, from Thai Lagoon. An hour later, 10pm, I call, they tell me he just left. I wait 30 minutes more, 10:30pm, and finally call and tell them I don't want it any more, I'm going to bed. No apology from them. 11:15, my phone rings, I'm sleeping, he's outside with my food. I politely tell him I'm not interested, he makes a big deal about how he came all the way back after his last delivery to give me my food, which I had ordered FOUR HOURS AND FIFTEEN MINUTES PRIOR. Crispy fried rice over a bed of lettuce with the most amazing, tangy sauce (tip - ask for sauce on the side if you're getting takeout - rice gets soggy quickly). I've gone to Thai Lagoon for years, and the food, service and atmosphere have always been great. Curries are delicious, though somewhat sweeter and thicker than traditional Thai. And, strangely, despite its location, Thai Lagoon has steered clear of the high maintenance Wicker Park crowd found frequenting most places a couple blocks east or south. read more

The food is good but their customer service is poor. I ordered through GrubHub and after being told the food would arrive within 50 minutes, I waited another half hour with still no food. When they were contacted they apologized stating that the order was misplaced and that it would take another 45 mins for the order to arrive (I should have just cancelled the order). When I asked to speak to a manager about it, there was nobody available. GrubHub tried to have part of the order comped but were told nobody was available to make that decision. I attempted to speak to a manager twice the following day and was told nobody was available. When I asked what time a manager would be in I was told, "they don't have set hours, they just come and go". Very disappointing service! read more

I am loyal to Thai Lagoon for two reasons, they have great delivery service and the food is tasty. Every time I call the gentleman on the other end of the phone is helpful and nice (for a change). The delivery service is never late and my food is always cooked to perfection. I am slightly perplexed by other reviewers concern that the food is too Americanized. What makes this place more Americanized than any other Thai restaurant? Unless you have been to Thailand, I think the description is worthless. With that said, if you want authentic Thai, go to Thailand. Otherwise, Thai Lagoon offers wonderful yellow curry and Tom Yum soup. read more

Delicious and affordable, no frills, just good food! I highly recommend the delicious and wonderful red coconut curried chicken. Comes with white rice and is one of the most tastiest dishes I've ever had! Truly mouthwatering. They have different curry sauces but the red is by far the best. Reminds me of tika masala or a tomato cream sauce in terms of looks and consistency- very delicious though. The crispy rice namsod is also a MUST. Crispy rice with chicken in a wonderful lime juice. I always have them hold the cilantro as it can be a bit overpowering. But overall a wonderful dish! Great food with some wonderful flavors! Looking forward to trying their pad thai next. read more

It was soft and the pieces were stuck to each other... And the pad see ew... I LOVE pad see ew, it's my favorite Thai dish, and this has been the worst one in my whole life. Saturday Night is a difficult night to find a place for a large group, especially for a mainly veggie only group. After our reservation was "misplaced" by another restaurant. Our large group of 12 descended upon the cozy Thai Lagoon, since it was walking distance from the other restaurant. Progressively through the first 30mins our group grew to 25 people. Our group took over the restaurant. To make a long story short... Thai Lagoon delivered with great service and food. I highly recommend the curry fried rice! I had been to Thai Lagoon before and enjoyed the food. However, I know that large groups can make things really difficult for servers and cooks. Thai Lagoon did an excellent job! This is a tough review. This has been our go-to Thai place for years, but it can be somewhat hard to recommend to others because it can be so outrageously inconsistent. On 2 separate occasions in the last 3 years we ordered food which was NEVER delivered. Both times the delivery was scheduled for "prime time" (mid Fri or Sat night) and after calling the place 30-45 AFTER food was to have been delivered, we were told it was not en route and asked if we still wanted it. (One time was yes, the second time was no, because the first yes never came - nor did they call - we had to call back another hour later.) If this place wasn't so close and I had not grown to love their Pad Thai, Pad-see-ew and Massaman curry, I would stop going here. (I also used to love their egg roll, but a re-do about a year ago transformed it from a tasty crunchy treat to the generic flavorless egg roll served at most places.)
