My go to place whenever I want amazing chicken pad thai. It's always piping hot and full of flavor when it comes to the table!

I mentored a little girl for a year, and when I couldn't think of anything else to do for our weekly visits (museums get real old real fast in the winter when you're 8 years old), we would go out to eat. We tried pizza from Piece, cupcakes from Southport Bakery, ice cream from Cold Stone, but her absolute favorite was when we went to Thai Lagoon. She had never had Thai food before, so the first time we went, she was totally overwhelmed. The waiters were so sweet to her, and eased her into Thai food with some chicken satay. Well - turns out she LOVES peanut sauce! Not just on her chicken satay, but on her pad Thai as well. After that first trip, we would go about once a month to feed her peanut sauce addiction. Thai Lagoon is currently my go to place for local Thai. I love their crab rangoon and after trying several different dishes there I've never been let down in quality. Sometimes the spiciness is inconsistent on the Pad Thai. Order mild and it could be too bland but order medium and you might be hitting your beverage more often than you'd like. Still, the service has always been good and the food is yummy enough to keep me coming back. I just wish they delivered. read more

I was so excited to try this place based on the reviews that we read and we were disappointed. It wasn't BAD, but it just wasn't GOOD. We order delivery from The Spice Thai Cuisine all the time, but we were looking for a place that had a more welcoming exterior so we yelped this place. The food from The Spice is WAY better, but you have to get to Milwaukee and Diversey to get it. Was I super :-( last night? Nah, but I don't know that I'll be going back. Oh yeah, but their Panang curry is aight. I love that stuff too, so I'm glad I didn't dislike theirs. I'd have to get Yelping ninja on they asses if they messed up that one. Just a 3 star...If you are a Thai food snob, you probably won't be super impressed. Curry is watered down and seasoned more with salt than with authentic curry paste. They seem to use cane sugar than palm sugar in their pad thai. They do give you a lot of chicken in your meal! The rice is also not jasmine rice, just regular white rice. read more

Great local Thai spot if you're not willing to travel elsewhere. Hip aesthetic with beautiful graffiti and low lighting. Service isn't the friendliest and once in a while I have a slight issue with the food- chicken a little tough or not the freshest veggies. Otherwise, I still come again and again. read more

I can't believe that I took this place for granted when I lived within walking distance of such yummy goodness. Thai Lagoon offers a fantastic laid-back, BYOB and trendy atmosphere in addition to delicious Thai food. Take-out from here was a weekly occurrence at our house. I was never unhappy with anything I ordered and, now that I live far, far away, I dream about their fresh Vietnamese spring rolls with mint in them. YUM. read more

I love this place. I live within a rock throwing distance of my apt and I always order the exact same thing. Fresh Vietnamese Spring Rolls, Crab Ragoon, Basil Chicken with rice, and Sauteed Greens with pork and fat noodles and every time it's delicious. If you decide to order out make sure you call it in because everything is made to order and you'll be waiting a while and getting frustrated, better to call and walk over! read more

I came here the other night with a bunch of friends so that we could have a BYOB dinner. This place had excellent food (crab rangoon!) and it was pretty cheap. The service was very attentive, probably because we went on a weeknight and there weren't many people in there. We got some spring rolls and I ordered the Grilled chinese eggplant sautéed with choice of meat and fresh basil. It was full of flavor and everything came out really quick! Excellent prices, but I'd be willing to pay extra for better quality food & friendlier service. I regularly pick up orders here, and the employees are always running around too stressed to be friendly, but yet the restaurant is empty. I stopped here on my way home from work. I didn't know what to expect but was hoping for the best. I ordered food for take out. Chicken Pad See-Eiw, Chicken Pad Thai, Spicy Basil Beef, Egg Rolls & Crab Rangoon. The appetizers were really good. The main courses were a disappointment. The chicken was dry & the beef was tough. The noodles were rubbery & lacked flavor. Considering the fact that there are many other Thai restaurants in Chicago I don't think I will go here again. read more

This place is great. VERY tasty food, and BYOB. They do have a $3 corking fee...but that's better than a 300% wine markup! Pricing is moderate, and (again) the food speaks for itself. Two of us only had to wait 20 minutes for a table on a busy Friday night. They had only one waiter...and he was able to pull it off. I'm definately going back. read more

Good place for Japanese influenced Thai-ish food.

I really wanted to like it here but it's hard to give a fabulous review when the food is just average. The soup was good with the perfect amount of spice, but maybe one too many mushrooms. The Crab Rangoon was good as well, hot and fresh. Figured the Pad Thai had to be good, since it's really hard to mess that signature dish up, but I was wrong. The sauce was a little off, there was no fried egg in sight, and the chicken was just average. The noodles also didn't seem to fit and the dish was just missing something flavor-wise. Ew. really not very good, even for "sloppy" Thai. Noodles were overcooked and not particularly flavorful, yet very salty. Portion was fairly well-sized, not that I really wanted a lot of what they gave me. read more

This place was a beacon of light in the neighborhood years ago when they first opened. It was on the fringe of a developing area and provided great food at a great price. The motif was very calm and subdued and the staff was quite pleasant. While some changes have occurred over the years it's nice to see that the core foundation that made this place a favorite of mine hasn't changed. One inconsistency that I would like to see worked on is their seasoning. In that I mean their hot vs. mild etc... Todays hot might be tomorrows mild without warning. The food is always great and with some chili paste at my side this is easily remedied but it would be my only recommendation. Try the Vietnamese Spring Rolls!!!! read more

I just dropped in on a Friday night. The wait wasn't long, 15-20 minutes. The service was awful. The food could be the absolute worst Thai food I've ever had. We had the chicken satay. Very dry. I've had better. The only redeeming quality was the peanut sauce and when you need to lather the chicken with peanut sauce that says something about the meat. I ordered the pad see eiw and it was completely flavorless. The waiter asked how spicy I wanted it and from my prior knowledge of pad see eiw isn't made spicy, AT ALL!!! The sauce wasn't even brown, the chicken was dry and tasteless. I also worked at a thai restaurant about 6 years ago, and this place didn't come close to the caliber of thai food. My boyfriend ordered the basil chicken and although it had more spice, it still wasn't very good. At the end of our meal, I barely touched my pad see eiw and he ate half of his basil chicken which was too bad since we were starving when we walked in. Our waiter asked if we wanted it wrapped. Seriously, are you kidding. If anyone really thinks this thai food is good, you should hit a real thai restaurant...even Pot Pan further down North Ave is waay better than this place. Aside from the (lack of) quality of the food, the service was horrible and it took forever for us to get our appetizer much less our entrees. I will never go back to this place. read more

I'm surprised at all of the negative reviews that Thai Lagoon has received. I can't claim to be a Thai cuisine connoiseur, but I've been here several times and have always enjoyed the food and gotten good service. Actually had some very yummy pad Thai here about a week ago. The portions are generous--my bowl of Pad Thai yielded two days of leftovers--and prices are reasonable. When I go here with my dinner pal, we usually end up spending around $25 for two entrees and one or two appetizers. The restaurant itself is kind of small. Probably not the most comfortable place for a large gathering, but a nice spot for dinner for two. read more

Thai Lagoon is one block from my house... so I've ordered from there a lot! It's solid. The crab rangoon is fantastic and recently I've been on a kick for the satays which also rock my world. This Thai restaurant is not good and borderline inedible. Don't eat here for Thai food. They prep food and leave it sitting cooked too long to just reheat. Noodles are gummy, sauce is salty. Crab Rangoon is OK tho. I don't recommend this place to anyone that wants to taste their food. read more

We live down the street from Thai Lagoon so it is eaten weekly in the Urbansky household. The food is consistently pretty good, it's not the world's best thai food but it's much better than other alternatives at that price point. This review is based on food alone, I very specifically choose not to eat here and do take out for a reason, the actual restaurant isn't much and what it is isn't great. This place seemed a little overwhelmed when I came in with a group of 7. Everyone got there dishes at different times, along with the wrong dish. When we ordered appetizers and our meals we had to get the attention of the waitress who seem to be doing other stuff. The food was Ok for what it was but was not great. I think the key at Thai Lagoon is ordering the right thing. I'm about to do you a major solid and please contact me for my address when you would like to send me a thank you fruit basket later. Khao soi is the best Thai dish ever. This is saying a lot because Thai food is delicious but once you try it there will be no reason to eat anything else. So order it here and you won't be disappointed. The portions are huge for a great price and they deliver on the cheap. I've tasted my friend's other food and it's aiight but it all fades away when you're munching on that Khao soi just saying. Just ordered delivery from here and I have to say I never complain, but it was really disappointing. I ordered yellow curry with tofu, and it only had tofu, none of the vegetables mentioned on the menu. My boyfriend ordered pad prig and it was nothing like any pad prig we had ever seen, and had completely different ingredients than what was listed on the menu. The Crab Rangoon were great and I would definitely recommend them.. perfect mixture of both crab/cream cheese. The Pad Thai was very good but a little sweeter/tangier than I'm used to although I really enjoyed it! I asked for extra sauce (+$1.50 just FYI) and it was actually too much so next time I order from here.. which I will.. I will try it without. Overall, accurate delivery time (1 hour) and great food!
