Craving pho today and sooo glad I stopped in today for Lao's version, with much more umami, beef flavored goodness to quell my jungle Asian taste buds. Tons of meat, beef and meatball, toppings, vegetables to add in, plus a DIY spice pepper rack with sambal, chili oil and dried peppers, your boy was in sap sap heaven. Service is very kind and helpful, place is clean and had on Thai music for the nostalgia but rap, island reggae for extra flavor. Had dinner at our favorite Thai Restaurant on the West Side, Thai Lao located next to the Texaco on Farrington Hwy. Service was great, our server was very attentive and accommodating. We ordered a couple of our favorites the Deep Fried Fish in Red Curry and the Evil Jungle Curry. The Fried Fish in Red Curry was perfectly prepared and delicious. Fish was crispy outside, moist and tender inside with that wonderful Red Curry and fresh Green and Red Peppers it's a totally cravable dish. We also tried something new for us the Beef Tomato and the Stir Fried Long Rice Noodles with Shrimp (Pad Woon Seu). The stir fried noodles is lighter than their Pad Thai. The shrimp was good perfectly. Very good flavors well balanced. Note that the building management changed all the parking fronting the restaurant to 30 minute parking. read more

We had the Shrimp PaNang and the chicken satay appetizer. $43 The chicken satay was a bit dry but also did not seem to be freshly grilled. Strange. It came with a citrus sauce drizzled all over it and the bamboo skewers which made it a bit messy. If it was not for the peanut sauce this would have been a complete bust. We ordered the PaNang Thai Hot and it did not disappoint. There was a $2 upcharge for the spice level as it shows on the menu. Just be aware so you are not surprised. We were warned that they did not have any basil for the PaNang. Even still, this was the 3rd best PaNang we've ever had and the second best we've had on the island. We ordered online and took our food to go. The Pad Kra Pao with beef was yummy, as were the summer rolls, and Pla Meuk Mano (steamed fish with lime juice). The fried spring rolls were also good. I didn't care for the Gung Ob Woob Sen as the noodles were overcooked and dry yet oily and the shrimps were black on one side, and the house chicken salad was okay but underwhelming. It's been awhile and the flavors are back!!! The food was fresh and everything we had was pretty amazing. We ordered papaya salad, padsew, red curry, beef fried rice, pad phet and spring rolls. If I had to pick surprisingly it was the padsew. The noodles were delicious and they got the dark sauce to highlight the dish. I asked the waitress if they have a new chef and she said yes. My only Thai food spot near home that I religiously get take out from! Finally dined in for a late lunch and it was quiet with fast service. Servers are always so nice and tentative. Food is astonishing! I sadly get the same thing every time because I just love these dishes so much :) pad si ew is my top favorite dish with extra beef! No where else makes it like them! When a Thai restaurant can't do plain white rice you know it's bad. We had been here before a few years ago and loved it but it is, terrible. The rice was pure mush. Someone with no cooking experience ruining instant rice would have done better. The food was flavorless. We had the pineapple curry that came with 4 chunks of canned pineapple and no flavor. I was craving some Thai food but wanted to try a new restaurant. Food here was flavorful. We ordered the following: spring roll, papaya salad, drunken noodles, mussaman curry, and larb. Ordered chicken larb and a Thai tea as pick up. The service was quick - ready in 15 minutes. The staff wasn't overly friendly, more direct and transactional. The restaurant seemed clean. It was packaged well but the juices leaked out into the bag making a bit of a mess when I pulled it out. The portion was a good size, lettuce and cabbage served with it were clean and fresh, appearance was beautiful, but it was extremely salty, almost inedible. I can tell effort was put into this, but the saltiness of the meal makes this a huge miss for me. We ordered Panang Curry, Pad Thai noodles, Green Papaya Salad, rice, and Stuff Chicken Wings. Panang Curry - peanut nutty, coconut, medium spicy flavors....heavenly! Pad Thai noodles - tasty, nutty, with white fish (mahi mahi), got to have some rice noodles, red bell peppers, beans sprouts, sliver carrots, and peanuts. It has many textures! Papaya salad - tangy, salty fish sauce ( but not fishy), slight crunch when chewing the green papaya. I always wanted to try this chain of Thai food . Took my daughter for her bday and ordered 6 dishes very excited to try the dishes. The rice came in bamboo containers stuffed to the brim until it toppled over. I tried the sticky rice and it tasted a day old or a couple days old. Horrible!! I used to hit this place up all the time back in high school, so when I was in Kapolei recently and was craving Thai food- I knew exactly the spot! We checked out their menu online and called in our order of seafood green curry, stuffed chicken wings, and a order of sticky rice. The total was around $45 after tip and our order was ready within 15 minutes. The parking lot was a bit crazy, ( I think because the tattoo shop nearby was offering $50 flash tattoos for Halloween), so I circled the lot as my friend jumped out and grabbed our food. My favorite is their stuffed chicken wings. Total game-changer. Imagine the love child of a chicken wing and a spring roll. That's what you get--deboned chicken wings packed with ground chicken and herbs, etc. Crunch factor? 10/10. Don't forget to dip it in that sweet chili sauce. The green curry was flavorful, with some shrimp, mussels, and white fish. But let me tell you, the unsung hero here was the eggplant. Super flavorful and just soaked up that curry goodness like a sponge. Originally, we stopped at the Pearl city location. This is one of our favorite Thai restaurants. Got their a few minutes before the 11 am. opening. A few minutes after 11 am. the open sign was turned on. A worker was bringing out the Thai statues to decorate the entrance. He asked me If we were going to dine in. I said yes, he then told me they have no cook. He then went inside and turned off the open sign. In a short discussion with the wife, we decided to come to Kapolei. The restaurant is located two doors down from My Café. The food turned out to be good. Although they didn't have pineapple to make the pineapple Curry, which I was craving. I substituted red Curry with chicken. Flavor the Curry was spot on. The chicken was a little dry. Drunkin noodles, another favorite, had a stronger shoyu taste than PC . Hit and miss! 2 really great experiences, 1 was ok and 1 most recent one was terrible. Not sure if this matters but both good experiences were during dinner time so maybe the chef and staff are different at night. The server in the afternoon is super disinterested and provides very subpar service. Same with the chef, it's almost like they're just mixing random stuff together when not busy. Our pad kee mao was garlicky and dry which is not what you'd expect. The evening server is great and also the manager I think. He takes care of you and makes sure you like the food and even remembered us on our repeat visits. Also much busier and lively in the evening compared to afternoons. Always ordered their Green Curry Fried Rice & Pad Kee Mao. Make sure the server hears your order correctly. We never order Thai spicy, just spicy. Not only did they make our dish Thai spicy to a point where we couldn't eat it, but they also charged us more for it. It was pretty inedible to the point that both my wife and I had physical reactions to spice (I had nose bleed and she had ringing in her ear). The only thing the server could offer in her defense was a pretty superficial "sorry". We were charged $15.95 for fried rice and $14.95 for their pad kee mao but this really should've been $13.95 each based on their menu prices. Also they charged us $5.25 for thai iced tea and coffee, both of which were priced at $4.95 in their menu and in store specials board. No correction, no sorry. Tax was extra which is fine. We left having drank both the drinks with a nosebleed and barely having touched our food and threw it out later as it was simply inedible. We both really like this place but not sure now if we'll return. Maybe one more time in the evening to give it a best out of 5 chance. read more
