Honestly went in without really knowing what Thai massage actually was, having only gotten Swedish massage before. After the initial shock of having someone kind of climbing on your back, my mind was blown! Xabi was phenomenal and so kind! He made it very easy to communicate about pressure and comfortability. I tried this place pre-covid and had a good experience, and decided to return a second time for a couples massage. I'm not sure if they were having a bad day, but I had a pretty terrible experience this time. Upon entering, we waited 25 mins while the staff (front desk, masseuse) started fighting right in front of us. Not sure what was going on, but voices were raised and there were threats to call the police, all while we were sitting less than 8 feet away. After this whole incident, we finally had our massage, but my masseuse (who was involved in the disagreement earlier) seemed clearly distracted throughout the massage. Her phone beeped loudly with notifications three times, and she stopped massaging to check her phone. She also sighed loudly several times throughout the massage, like she was really upset about something - not relaxing at all! Reading through the other reviews, I see that others have noted the internal drama among the employees. I likely won't return unless this is resolved. read more

I found this place on both Yelp and with some research. We did the couples 90 min combo thai and deep tissue massage. We got there about 10 mins earlier and were immediately asked to take off our shoes. We were given blankets to cover with and asked to disrobe. Both of our masseuses were very good and attentive. I was unaware of the point where the masseuse used her feet but she definitely applied necessary pressure. I've never had a massage that involved, but I was sore the next day. The owner thinks it's ok to perform a service with fresh blood on the sheets and does not prioritize the safety of customers. I've been going here since last year and the service is usually great. But today after my appointment, I discovered fresh blood on the sheets. I asked my therapist to take a look and she explained she had accidentally cut her finger right before my appointment but the sheets were clean. I spoke with the owner and he said the same thing so I had to explain that the sheets were no longer clean after they came into contact with blood. I wish she had at least changed them again or even been transparent about not being able to perform a service with an open wound. I was only given 20 dollars back in cash which essentially covered my tip. The owner was more focused on retaining the sale than my concerns with sanitation. I just don't think it's ethical of the owner to charge a customer for a service performed in unsanitary and unsafe conditions. I recently visited the spa after experiencing some tension on the right side of my neck and lower back. This was my first time visiting a spa like this but I watched a short video beforehand to prepare. I would also recommend doing so just so you're not surprised at how the bodywork is done. It was AH-MAZING!!! I do appreciate my practitioner's attention to detail and making me feel comfortable throughout the experience. Some things to note are: It is a little warm in the suite. There will be some more intensive stretching but you can always tell them to apply more or lighter pressure. The staff do wear masks and you will be required to wear one as well. You can tip after your service. You will change into clothes provided by the spa. I would definitely recommend this spa to anyone working from home or elsewhere that needs a hand getting adjusted or less tense. Thank me later! read more

Review is a few days late but I loved my experience here, booked my appointment literally at the last minute the previous night and was able to get an appointment the next afternoon. Maria was my masseuse and she was very skilled and excellent. She asked me if I preferred pressure which I did and she delivered. I was very tight and kinked up in back in which she also inquired if I had a problem area she focused on my problem area as well as my whole body. I slept wonderfully well the same night and my muscles have continued to release and relax from last Friday up until today. I came here for a deep tissue/Thai yoga combo massage with Taylor the day after hitting the gym for the first time in over a year. She is also incredibly warm, humble, & easy to voice your concerns to. I told her everything that was aching & she took special care to give extra focus to all my sweet spots. The spa itself is quaint & impeccably clean, Taylor ensured the room temp was to my liking, & she ended the experience with some deeply comforting hot towels wrapped gently around my feet, hands. & shoulders. I have been an athlete in some capacity for my entire life and have had occasional massages over the years of various quality. I'll admit to you that I know a lot more about dealing with the painful effects of overexertion by just ignoring them or trying to deal with it myself than getting help from trained and talented professionals. My visit to Taylor at Thai Lotus Bodywork was eye opening and timely. I visited her the day after I ran the Chicago Marathon, my body was in about as much pain as I could ever remember, my upper back and legs were tight and knotted up in ways that I still barely believe. I had knots in my calves that when Taylor started to work on them, I was nearly in tears and almost couldn't stop myself from yelling. I was literally biting the towel near my mouth. She didn't stop though, and I am grateful that she didn't. As she patiently worked though my aches, carefully getting blood into and under the knots and scar tissue in my body, I didn't realize until later how effective and helpful that experience has been. I can say with confidence that I've never had such a healing and helpful massage in my entire life. After the massage I had to jump on a couple of planes and fly back to Riyadh in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia where I'm currently working. It consisted of two 7+ hour flights, the increased circulation stayed with me the whole time--and two days after the massage I could still feel the benefits of Taylor's incredible talent for healing. Three days later I feel nearly 100%, but I can tell that I will be feeling better than 100% in a couple more days after I begin my regular stretching and workouts. My legs and body are still recovering from the pounding they took during the marathon, but I know I wouldn't be this far along without the bodywork I received from the massage I received. The only thing I can say is that the 90 minutes I spent with Taylor has changed my perspective on the usefulness of a proper massage, and I wouldn't feel as good as I do now without her help. I know it feels like a hassle to spent the extra time recovering and taking care of your body, but if you have tight calves or muscle pain, don't spend more time in pain and get it worked out by someone like Taylor ASAP. Better yet, just go see her, especially if you have the privilege of being close to this location near Grant Park. I can attest to the professionalism, care, and attention you'll receive--along with a potentially life changing massage such as the one I experienced. Thank you Thai Lotus, and thank you Taylor--the time you spent training to do what you do was well worth it--I'll be back as soon as I can to get stretched and massaged when I'm stateside. I found this place when I was searching for massages around the South Loop area as a birthday gift for my boyfriend. We did a couple's massage for 90 minutes and I can say it was well spent on a Saturday afternoon. When we arrived the place is located on the 2nd floor. Since the door to the suite was locked, I had to call them to open the door for us. The place itself is quiet and clean. You are asked to then remove your shoes and changed into their clothes. (For me, they gave me a black blouse and pants, for my boyfriend they gave him just pants). Thai massage has a lot of stretching and it involves the therapist using both hands and feet to massage. They also apply some kind of oil for the massage. Be prepared to be stretched at every single muscle and joint of your body from neck, shoulder, arms, waist, thighs, legs, feet etc. Both of our massage therapist were professional and good. The price was also reasonable for a 90 minute massage session in the Chicago area. Overall, I had a great experience at Thai Bodyworks and I would recommend to anyone who would want to give Thai massage a try! read more

After years of just going to spas for massages, I thought I'd be getting something similar to the Swedish massage, but after my massage therapist, Miron told me it was different, I wasn't sure what to expect. Unlike other massages, you actually have on a shirt and pants. It's by appointment only and It's very clean and simple with light music playing during the service. There were no frills of aromatherapy or light dimmers and/or black shades. It's just the simplicity of getting on the table and getting up feeling better. I did the Thai massage, and it felt like a mix between yoga, stretching, and a deep tissue massage. In fact, I noticed that I tried to keep my breathing aligned with the stretches. Somewhere in between Miron's strong hands and his gently guided manipulations of my body, I was rejuvenated. This is not the put-you-to-sleep kind of massage. When my hour was up, I was relaxed but not groggy. The dull body ache was gone and it felt as if every nerve ending was on ten. I don't know how I've been sleep on this massage method, but it is definitely my massage of choice now, and I highly recommend Miron. Read the reviews and it looked great, so I booked a couples massage for me and my SO. My SO was placed on his front 55 of the 60 minute massage with his masseuse standing on his back, rocking back and forth the entire tjme. In the last five minutes she had him sit up cross legged, put some oil on his back, quickly rubbed him down, and then told him he was done. My massage was fine, not really anything to write home about but there were definitely some moments that made me question if my masseuse was professionally trained (has anyone else ever had a masseuse just ... scratch your head for a bit during a massage?) But I woke up the next morning feeling incredibly sore, which I haven't experienced with massages before, or even when doing something like "scraping" during physical therapy over scar tissue. I've also been to Thailand and gotten authentic Thai massages there - this isn't it. We will not be returning. read more

I can't believe it's taken me so long to discover Thai Lotus Bodywork when it's just down the street from where I live! I've been desperate to find a new massage spa especially as the one I've been going to just a block away from Thai Lotus has not been meeting my expectations. Thai Lotus is well kept, very clean, and has incredible Thai massage therapists. I always come out very relaxed and happy w the quality of massages they give. They also do deep stretching, which I prefer, but I appreciate that they ask clients if they'd like to have it done at every visit. I also love that you can make appointments on their website. I found out that they have a Groupon special available, but would recommend to just purchase the service at the spa. The Groupon seems to only give a $1 discount, so not worth the trouble to get it.
