A solid Thai restaurant in the UW! I came here with my sister on a week day for lunch and there was no wait. We ordered the Pad Se-Ew & Gra Prow Kai Dow. Both were really good! The Gra Prow Kai Dow was supposed to be spicy... however I was slightly disappointed as I didn't find it spicy at all. I've been here a couple times and the food has always been tasty. I like the lychee creme brûlée a lot! Service was quick, and I like their red umbrella decor inside! Overall, I will likely return to Thai Market for a quick meal! read more

The place was not busy and we got an amazing window seat and got straight to ordering which included Kow Soy ($17.95), Vegetable Curry ($17.95) and, Curry Rice ($2.50) - a side portion which was enough to feed our little one! Food overall was inline with expectations; nothing spectacular, but not disappointing either. Not much spice kick, but the Kow Soy was packed with flavor and the Vegetable Curry, not so much! This one is probably between 3.5-4. It's a cute joint but the food is pretty standard , nothing too exciting . We also tried the Bangkok cocktail that was supposed to be sweet/sour according to the waiter and ended up being more bitter . I am so disappointed in myself that this review has taken as long as it has. I have been coming to Thai Market now for 10 plus years. Hua is always the best server. She already knows our order once we sit down! It is always the go to place. I have enjoyed many entrees from the menu. My go-to's are usually the Pad Se Ew or the Green Curry with Chicken. Tonight's dinner I indulged in the steamed Thai dumpling appetizer and the Green Curry and I always opt for the sticky rice. The green curry is pretty spicy if you ask me and comes with eggplant and peppers. The sticky rice comes wrapped in a banana leaf and adds a nice sweetness to any dish. Solid staple for the Morningside neighborhood with delicious noodles that hit the spot. The prices have definitely gone up over the years, but their prices are on par with other spots around the city. Most recently, I enjoyed their tofu pad se-ew--it has well cooked, large flat noodles, a good amount of fried tofu and veggies, and a generous (but appropriate) amount of fried egg (so good!) I also tried some of the beef pad se-ew and thought the beef had good flavor but was a bit on the dry side. Someone was crazing Thai so this place came up with a decent amount of reviews. Interior is nicely done with street signs hanging from the wall and a big red umbrella at the bar. The aroma as we walked closer to our seats near the kitchen definitely made our taste bunds react. Service here was very attentive. We ordered the chicken larb, green curry soft shell crab and the basil fried rice with squid. The chicken larb came with sticky rice and a basket of veggies. The taste was pretty but we didn't enjoy the texture of the chicken at all. We are not big fans of white meat and found the meat very powdery and tasteless. We regretted asking if we could change the protein as we were sure the minced pork would have made a huge difference. Almost positive they could have accumulated this request since we were able to change the protein for the fried rice. The green curry soft shell crab was today's favorite dish. The crabs were very big and perfectly fried. The green curry was very tasty and we kept dipping everything in the sauce or eating it with rice. I have always previously gone to this restaurant with great anticipation of delight! The grilled chicken was so succulent and flavorful, with wonderfully crispy skin. The skirt steak was reliably tender and suffuse with nectar-like juices and as for the Pad Thai, it was superb! Tonight, sitting at the bar by myself, I had only the chicken, proceeded as usual, by a Cosmo. Because my drink was only fair, as potent as always, but over sweet like a mix, I ought to have worried. Alas it was nothing like what I've grown accustomed to here. In fact, it tasted just as if it had been prepared hours before and placed on the grill again to be re-heated. Consequently, the white meat was too dry to eat. Ordinarily courteous and helpful to the extreme, the bartender seemed indifferent at best. I will never return and predict that soon, it will close! read more

I wouldn't say it was the most amazing thai food I've had but it was yummy. That being said, there was literally a rat running around inside the restaurant as we were eating. Killed our appetite immediately. They couldn't find the rat but they were trying to calmly search for it. Not only that but the service was not the best. When we put our names down, the waitress told us it would be a 10 minute wait and we didn't get a text for 30 minutes. We would've just gone somewhere else to eat, lying about the wait time did not look good. After we waited that long, they set us in the front of the door which had so much cold air coming in and out (I was a bit sick at the time so I wanted to stay warm). We asked for a table in the back that was empty. They said there was a reservation coming in a few mins. We asked them to close the door. They said they would and never did. Our food came out and we ate for ~1 hour. There was no reservation that showed up. It was sort of clear that they didn't want to move us to the back. Food: Yummy, not the best. Ambiance: Rat?! I got pad kee mao with chicken and moo ping (marinated pork on skewers). Both were delicious, definitely hit the spot. Pad kee mao was very saucy and flavorful. I was concerned that the noodles were going to be dry and stuck together because that sometimes happens when I get noodle dishes for takeout, but the noodles were wonderfully moist and saucy. I personally didn't think it had much spice and would have preferred it to be spicier. I loved that there was a good amount of chicken and other non-noodle components because some places will give almost all just noodles, but not here. Of the pad kee maos I've had, this one is a lot more tomato-forward with hints of a marinara sauce kinda flavor, esp w the small tomato pieces. I loved the sauce of the moo ping and the subtle spice it has. The meat had nice crispy edges, but I wish the pieces were more meat and less fat. Overall, very satisfying meal! read more

For the crab rangoon alone I am compelled to give a 5 star review, but alas there are other factors to consider. My friend and I ordered a gai rad prik (mild spicy) and thai thai basil sauce (medium spicy). We also ordered thai iced teas. The gai rad prik was sweet and spicy grilled chicken and portion size was generous. The funny thing is that this was spicier than the thai basil even though we requested mild spicy. Ah... maybe my memories are warped with age, but Thai Market was not nearly as wonderful as I remember it being about a decade ago, when it was in regular rotation. We used to love the skewers, whole grilled fish, turnip cakes, the noodles -- everything really. On a recent evening, dinner by delivery was a disappointment against the backdrop of our memories -- but was probably fair for the neighborhood. Everything has become Americanized and hyper, gloppy sweet. Fish sauce, spice, and all the pungent flavors that make Thai food interesting are no longer present or otherwise extremely dialed back. Where there is spicy heat, it comes from ingredients that are not traditional for those dishes, e.g. from some sort of sriracha-like hot sauce instead of fresh hot peppers in ped kee mao. Stirfried turnip cakes were once IMHO one of the best dishes in Manhattan, made with crispy-on-the-outside, creamy-on-the-inside slivers of sauteed turnip cake tossed with a melange of sprouts and other vegetables, soy sauce and fish sauce. What we received by delivery was a sodden mess, made with an imbalanced amount of fish sauce that tasted completely off for anyone familiar with the dish or cuisine. Skewers were very vanilla. No longer are chicken or beef heart or gizzards offered on the menu. The chicken tenders and marinated pork we were able to order were sweeter than we like, not grilled (griddled at best), seasoned with something premade, overly sweet and corn-syrupy gloppy. Noodles (ped kee mao and kee mao gai) were texturally pleasant, but poorly made by someone who was clearly not familiar with the cuisine and winging it wrt flavors. We've been hyping the restaurant to friends for years and feel embarrassed for doing so. It's possible we tried on an off night. Will try again... but I'm in no hurry to return. read more

Cute, Thai market inspired decorations, full bar, and extensive selection of solid food! I loved everything, especially the curry rice, which was beautifully fragrant with a subtly sweet finish. Everything was delicious but I thought the rice was exceptional. Few words for the wise : The salmon seems to come medium-medium well so if you like it rarer ask up front. The mango salad packs a bit of heat. It's delicious and well-balanced, but if you're spice sensitive I'd let them know to see if they can make it without the bird's eye chili. BEST neighborhood Thai, probably one of the top on the UWS. Okay, not a super high bar... Full disclosure - I can't take super spicy food, so I don't know if Thai Market comes through for those dishes. It is the only Pad Thai delivery that I get because unlike most of the others, it is not a gloop of oversweetened sauce with overcooked noodles. It is tangy, bit sweet, bit spicy with a great balance of veggies, noodles and protein. Other standouts: GET THE BROWN TROUT! It's hard to find Thai fish dishes that aren't super spicy/ super breaded. The trout is incredibly moist, fried but not breaded, and just the right flavorings. Somehow, the dish survives the delivery process to arrive still hot and still juicy. The mango sticky rice is consistently good. The green curry never disappoints. The larb is inconsistent - the balance of spicy, vinegary and salty doesn't always work. The apps are okay not outstanding. read more

Tom Yum Goong: less sour and complex than regular T Yum, I fell in love with the lemongrass and mushroom combo, with tender shrimp and chopped scallions. Intensely flavorful, this feels like it can cure you of any ailment. I thought the spice level was perfect, not too aggressive. The steamed Thai dumplings with chicken and peanuts come with this perfectly thin and delicate dumpling skin, but no dipping sauces. While delicious, I'd love something to dip them in. Pad Kee mao is fairly spicy and delicious (but not Thai spicy), and is less sweet than places serve. Perfectly cooked noodles that were still a bit firm. I couldn't resist ordering their $25 skirt steak for me entree, with an extra $2 for a side of vegetables. This comes with sticky rice and a spicy green sauce. Not only is this an incredible bargain, but the steak was cooked a perfect medium rare and melt in your mouth tender. Don't skip this! read more
