Picked up a take out order last night. First time ordering from here. The people were very nice and I like that I get a message when my order was ready. I ordered a small Tom Yum Seafood Soup and Pad Thai. I ordered medium hot and it wasn't really that spicy. I'll learn their heat levels. The soup had a fantastic flavor but there wasn't much to it. There were two shrimp, two pieces of squid, a mussel and a couple of pieces of tomato. It was very flavorful but not worth $11.95 to me. I'll definitely skip it next time. The Pad Thai was definitely the better value of the two at $13.95. Not a huge portion but enough. I'll probably go back and try some of their traditional Thai dishes. Overall it was good. Literally the best crab rangoons i've ever had. The service was great & very friendly, the food was fresh & hot, it didn't take long to receive our appetizers and entrees. Our drinks were always full, the food was pretty good size portions. I will definitely be returning!! Probably our favorite Thai place in Southlake/ Westlake/ trophy club/ Roanoke area. Friendly family owns and runs it, big menu and everything we've ever tried (even bites off our kids plates) has been better than expected. We come once a week now. Gotta try the crispy basil Duck! read more

I always feel good and satisfied when I eat here. No maker if you dine in or take out its good stuff! I'm a picky eater, but I will try a new place always. ...you never know. Anyway, restaurant is usually pretty chill but don't let that fool you, the take out orders are a constant. If you dine in you get a side salad and an egg roll, just putting out there.... "Have you ever seen one do this, before?" "No." Hooper to Quint, in "Jaws". I've had Thai food from Hawaii to Texas. I thought I had seen it all ... but I hadn't. This restaurant does something unique - they cook VERY authentic Thai food, then tweak the recipes to accommodate the Texan palate. It's all aromatic, complex, cooked perfectly, and sweet. Much sweeter than any Thai food I've ever had (from Hawaii to Texas and several places in between). So, if that's not your thing - beware. Sam Choy, the famous chef from Hawaii, used to do the same thing. 95% of the dishes he made, were sweet. Even the salads. Thai Monkey doesn't go THAT far, but this was the sugariest perfectly prepared Pad Thai I've ever had. To paraphrase Jerry Seinfeld, "Having said that ..." their food is fantastic. Cooking duck right is hard. They make it seem easy - crispy/crunchy skin, tender moist meat. Shrimp done right - not rubbery and hard. Who can resist the temptation to overcook pork these days? They can. Even the potatoes were done beautifully. Sweet enough to flirt with being called "dessert-like", but awesome. One other thing - the restaurant packs things meticulously better than any other Asian place. They separated the duck from the sauce. They made sure the deep fried spring rolls were sitting on lettuce and had holes cut in the styrofoam so they'd remain crisp. The sticky rice (which was done right) was double triple wrapped in foil, plastic wrap, stored in yet another foam box. So ... I give them an A. You might hand them a dead flunk. I doubt they would do well in Bangkok, but in the DFW, you won't find anything better. The next time I eat there, I'm going to ask if they can make their food less sweet - they might come up with something that would make Yul Brenner swoon. read more

We stopped by to try the Thai Monkey as this was the only restaurant that served Thai in Roanoke. As we walked into the restaurant, the presentation of the exterior was dismal. Uncut grass, spilled paint all over the sidewalk. The building had been sprayed yellow and was a sloppy mess. The interior was covered with Halloween decor, including blood and guts spilling from a human corpse, and Goulish figures throughout. Certainly not a place to enjoy a meal! We ended up not eating there because of the atmosphere. read more

Pretty good authentic Thai food. We had fish cakes, crab Rangoon with pandan, pad thai, basil chicken with fried egg on top, larb nua, fried squid, Thai fried rice, and tiger cry (their version of thai beef salad). The spicy fish condiments were readily available. We didn't have time for dessert. My only criticism would be the breading for the fried squid was bland. read more

I have eaten in the restaurant 3-4 times, however I have had Thia Monkey several times to go. A total of around 15 times. However the past two times I had a cricket part in my Tom Kha soup. For first time antenna and the 2nd time a cricket leg. Which is sad because the food is incredible in flavor, just hard to stomach again after it's happened twice. We were so excited to try this for the first time, but we didn't even get inside the door because of a disgusting, gory Halloween decoration that is hanging in the front window. I'm from Los Angeles and have had my share of Thai food. I've to say Thai Monkey really impressed me with the quality, authenticity, and taste. I ordered basil with chicken and yellow curry with shrimp per the server's recommendation. I asked for spicy since I love heat. Both dishes were large in proportion and flavor. Since I'm used to spicy food, I didn't feel the spice level was extreme. I'm used to spicy Thai food being much hotter. I'll be making more visits to this beautiful restaurant so I can try more dishes. read more

We e gotten food here for the past seven years. It used to be very good, but the last two times we were very disappointed. The Tom Yum soup was good, but the Thai fried rice had no flavor. I've been here three times now. They never disappoint. Their pad Thai is filling and super good. They cook their tofu perfectly. I went with my mother yesterday and had the "pad see ew" for the first time, but it was really salty from the soy sauce they cook it in. Next time I'll stick with the pad Thai. I would give 0 stars if I could. There was a cooked beetle in my food and when I called and complained, the person on the phones first question was "is there something wrong with that?". Only to then ask me to bring the food back for proof and when brought back they just grabbed the food from me and went into the back without so much of an apology the only words uttered when they came to retrieve the food was "is this the order?" Not wanting the currently dining guests to hear me say that there was a cooked beetle in my food. I would recommend the health department give this place a thorough check. read more

This place is new, and replaced a different Thai place. We really liked the Pad Thai at the old joint, so we gave this a try. They have definitely helped with the decor. They have yet to get their liquor license, so we had a free glass of wine (only 1 allowed). But hey, it was free. We ordered the crab Rangoon which was not quite as good as others I've had. Also, some Thai sausage that was nasty, and chewy. I had big hopes for the Pad Thai but it came out super sweet. Too much sugar! The space: This place has such a large space. I love the art work on the wall. Table setting was nice as well. Food: You can choose the spiciness which is 1-5, 5 being the spiciest. I ordered the masaam curry during dinner dinner time, medium spice level (3), and it was really filling. The portion size was a lot larger than I was accustomed to and I think that one curry would be enough for two people (just order an extra rice for the person you are sharing it with). Amazing Thai joint for a chili head. Absolutely amazing. I spent the last ten years living in Dallas and have eaten at dozens of Thai restaurants. None of them even came close to being spicy to me. I ordered the drunken noodle 100x Thai hot (make me regret being born) and it was both DELICIOUS and SPICY. Sitting here sweating and can not wait to go back. Admittedly been a while since we ate her but we used to do pickup semi-regularly with the occasional dine in experience. Staff was always friendly and helpful, and I love the art in the building. They even decorated for Halloween one year! I do miss the massaman curry that was made by the Thai place that was there before them (it had avocado chunks in it!) but I don't hold that against them. I went four stars because the meat was not consistently high quality. It often was but occasionally would be quite gristly. Not so bad it couldn't be enjoyed but definitely took away from the experience. Also, spiciness wasn't always consistent between ordering on different days. Found this hidden gem on a whim and I could not be happier!!!!! Pad Thai is usually nothing to write home about but THIS RIGHT HERE!!!!!! This is worth a trip from anywhere in Texas just to taste it. I have not found this flavor since leaving Phuket Thailand but now I go here anytime I'm missing the Far East. Yellow Pork Curry is also amazing and they have the best spring rolls in America!!!! Ambiance is lacking due to an odd smell in the common area with restrooms that should be avoided if at all possible. That being said the staff are very kind and attentive. I was craving Asian food so I decided to give this another try and let them tell me what I should get. They gave me a huge menu that seemed like a dinner menu so I asked the waitress what the top sellers were "for lunch" and she said "oh, I couldn't find the lunch menus but we have" ( and then she started saying a bunch of different things). I decided on Drunken Noodles after she suggested and it was awesome. Still served the room temperature egg roll with weird sauce but I'll go back again for the Drunken Noodles.
