This is a clean and comfortable little restaurant. Soft purple walls make for a cozy environment. The service is great with dedicated happy people doing everything. I'll be coming here often. Excellent Thai food. We have enjoyed a meal here about five times now. The owners are very kind and go out of their way to make extra hot level 10 curry for my husband. My favorite items are the pad Thai and summer veggie rolls. They get very busy in the evening so if you can make it there before 5 you'll get much faster service. For me, it's a little early to tell about Thai Number 9 at this point purely based on its service organization, seating layout and seating availability during times when you would normally eat a meal. I would say it is a work in progress - but standard Thai food as expected from the owners who've I've come to enjoy. The food that I did order was good and spicy. The portion size was a little small for the price, but that could be due to my ordering it as takeout. I've lived in Portland, OR where there are some phenomenal Thai restaurants that serve some pretty incredible lunch deals, but by Junktown standards, the variations are standard and the tastes are acceptable. My critique: When I arrived, there was no seating, but a lot of 2-tops in 4-top tables. Since seating arrangement is poor (in my opinion), I placed my order for takeout. Takeout order was no quicker than if I had sat and it was extremely small in size for $11. I would have expected an additional spring roll or something for that price. It was literally a good handful of dish and an equal handful of rice. In my quick observation while waiting, there is some extreme disorganization in communication with the staff, getting tables bussed, and sitting new customers. The sq.ftg. seems really small for a restaurant of this "caliber" - outdoor seating in the future maybe? Starbucks has more sq.ftg. than this establishment. Great location though and it looks like it could have some great potential. I really wanted to order the Larb, but they were "sold out" so I ordered the usual and it was fairly standard, but pretty small for an $11 takeout meal. This was the first visit for my wife and me. Overall, good service and passable Thai for the western slope. We like a bowl of soup with our lunch, but the only soup option was a big bowl serving "2 or 3". We split a Tom Yum, and it was OK once we added a helping of salt. For the entree we each got Pad Thai. Once again, it needed salt and seemed a bit lackluster, but was fine overall. Don't be suspect. This place is legit. The curries are amaze. If you like hot then I'd suggest medium. They have mild, medium, or hot. And trust me, the hot is hot. I've been to Thailand many times and this food is about as close as you can get to authentic Thai food. We are from Los Angeles and have a eaten at the Thai Restaurant in Hollywood where members of the Thai Embassy eat when they are in Los Angeles. The food at Thai Number 9 is wonderful and equal to probably the best Thai Restaurant in LA. They do not tone down the flavor. Thai Number 9 serves excellent authentic Thai Cuisine! Thai Number 9 is consistently outstanding. I come here about twice a week for lunch or dinner and am greeted with a hug by Jojo, who runs the restaurant with her brother and sister, Peter and Susie. When I'm here, I feel at home. Everyone who works here is warm and friendly. The food is great- nice size portions, great veggies, fantastic flavor. The restaurant also offers consistently good service. My favorite dish is the Pad Se Eaw- it's saucy and delicious. This was some of the best Thai food I've ever had. To put it in short I asked for Red Curry simply expecting your average spiced American red curry. Well, I was horribly wrong. I got a wonderful spiced beautiful red curry that filled my heart with delight. It was very spicy but in all the right ways considering I asked for medium. This is our new favorite spot! The food is wonderful and the service made it an all around great experience. The people are friendly and funny. The Tom Kha soup with chicken was amazing.
