My husband and I were very excited to check this place out because I'm from NYC & he from Hawaii. Asian cuisine is like our favorite, but this place was not it. We came in at 8pm and they did not seat us until 8:30, then finally took our orders & gave us one bowl of rice at 8:50pm and told us they are not making anymore. This is an all you can eat place, there is nothing else to eat the meat with except RICE and they didn't want to make more? It was pretty disappointing and we explicitly requested can you please make more, and they just said no we're not doing it. There was no policy mentioned, it just seemed like laziness honestly. I was with a group a people who eat a lot of food and would have eaten plenty of rice. The waitresses were also at the front of house just gossiping throughout the night, and there were tables that could have been cleaned. Unfortunately, the work ethic of many of the employees were subpar. It's disappointing that restaurants nowadays do not put the customers first or the representation of their establishment at a higher standard. Really disappointed and I wouldn't recommend coming back. I recommend Suehiro! Suehiro has been around for years and it's very clear why, when I want some authentic Asian food, I think they might be the best place to try in Grand Junction. read more

I am very well versed in this establishment. I have been about 9 times, having korean bbq 5 times and sushi 4 times. I think their concept is pretty good but they do have a lot to build on/improve. The service is very slow and you will likely spend 3+ hours there on korean bbq. The servers are doing way too much and should have more support somehow. they cannot efficiently create the experience, explain the concept and menu, help with the bbq, and bus. They are doing a great job but need support. I think the menu is entirely too large and overwhelming to first time diners. I think they cannot possibly keep the menu fresh and clean and quality with how large it is. A lot of the meats for korean bbq are chewy and inedible. The sushi is expensive but very fresh and creative dishes. The asparagus in some of the rolls comes out woody and inedible. It is a little disappointing but i think a good try for being one of the first of its kind in. I think they have a lot to learn and should be open to feedback. read more

We loved it! We had Korean barbecue and it was great. First timers here but all the staff were welcoming, helpful and instructive. Great variety of meats, seafood, vegetables. All fresh and great quality. It's clean, comfortable and fun! Casual enough for every day or fun for a special occasion or adventurous second or third date. The Korean BBQ and Hot Pot was excellent! I've been to several similar places and this was the best I've been to. Tons of selections of meats and sauces and accompaniments. Plenty of quality meats. I'm in Grand Junction on a work trip, and I stumbled upon this new sushi restaurant. They also have Korean bbq, hot pot, and a plethora of appetizers. I sat at the bar, and the service was great! It's very clean and organized, and has a good ambiance for lunch or dinner. (Not too dark or too bright) I ordered the jalapeño yellowtail app, and the surf to turf roll. Both were really yummy, and the yellowtail was fresh and delicious. (Says a lot for a landlocked city) The surf to turf roll did have a bit too much cream cheese for my liking, as it tends to overpower everything else, but the flavors were amazing! They torch the top of the roll to cook the steak, and it gives it a really nice charred flavor. Overall, I'll be happy to come back when I'm in town. read more

How do I even start this review? Coming from California, I was very skeptical about a place called Surf to Turf that offers Korean barbecue, hot pot, and sushi all in one. But honestly? It ended up being one of the best meals I've had in a long time. I recently moved to Grand Junction, and this spot surprised me in the best way. Our waiter, Chloe, was attentive, had a beautiful spirit, and handled everything perfectly. As someone who's worked in food service, I notice the details--and I left completely satisfied. Sushi is amazing but the bartender/ bar manager Jaxson is in the wrong business, last two times we were there his mood is "difficult " he says he had his ass kicked both times before we arrived, shouldn't be our problem. When my husband asked him about his mood and he said " maybe you shouldn't come in when I'm working. Needless to say we won't but too bad because their sushi is amazing. Service from jackson in the bar was very poor. Not friendly or professional. He said he was the bar manager. Every time we go in he said he just got his ass kicked and thats why he is always in a bad mood. Not the customers fault sorry. Leave your personal feelings at the door & pick them up when you leave work if you are a professional. This guy shouldn't work with people. He needs to be in the back room stocking shelves. The food here was absolutely amazing. I would highly recommend anyone looking for a good kbbq place to come here. My wife has a bad peanut allergy and they were super accommodating to her with her allergy. Our server was absolutely amazing he was very attentive and kind. He definitely is a great person! It started in the parking lot. 3 male employees were smoking in the front of the building 5ft to the left of the front entrance. So, the cloud of smoke we fought through followed us right in the front door. (Yikes) I've never had Korean BBQ, so the "experience" was ok. But, I didn't find the overall experience particularly great. It could have been my cooking, the selection was a little slim, they were out of several items on the menu and the soup appetizer came at the end of the meal, and was very spicy. (That could be a normal spice level, admittedly, I am a lightweight on the heat!) The sushi wasn't particularly remarkable. My husband ordered several rolls. The timing on the service of the meal was off quite a bit as well. Serving one person their meal while another waits 30 mins is a bit weird. The waitress was polite, attentive and new. Her knowledge of the menu wasn't very helpful, but again, she is a newer staff member. I probably won't come back, but, I guess I'm glad I went the once. We ate on a Thursday night right at 5. Came here for Korean bbq on Valentine's Day and had a great experience. I'm from AZ where we had kbbq on every corner so I am thrilled one with good quality meat options finally opened up in GJ! We've had Korean BBQ overseas and this didn't overly resemble authentic K-BBQ, and the quality of meat was poor - the beefs were extremely chewy but the Kobe was more tender, but the standard sauces they bring just aren't good & varied - they do have a sauce bar, but unless you know what to mix it's really a crap shoot - in the authentic K-BBQs overseas they always have 5-6 good, very different sauces they bring to the table. They're also very slow to bring out additional meat & shrimp and they heavily push the sides, clearly it's cost effective for them to let you fill up on the sides rather than always supplying you with meat/shrimp, and we went when there were very few full tables in the restaurant. If the meat & sauce quality were greatly improved it might be worth 2/3 of what they charge, but it's extremely expensive for what you get and how good it is. read more

I went to try out Surf to Turf with a group of friends since it was their Grand Opening. My friends tried out the Korean BBQ & Hot Pot and they raved over it. Unfortunately my experience was far less positive. I am a Chef and have worked at many levels of the food industry. I've also had experience evaluating new servers for BJ's Restaurants. 1. I ordered 2 very simple sushi rolls. I know how to make sushi and I know these 2 particular rolls take approx. 10 mins if you have your prep table organized as it should. My order took 90 minutes. I was told twice it was being prepared. When I became frustrated after watching my friends eat, I told the server just to cancel my order. I not only received attitude from the server, I was also relayed a message from the sushi chefs that if I wanted it faster, I should come and my it myself. So YES to Surf to Turf. I will be making my own sushi because my rolls use better quality ingredients than what I was served. Maybe look into your severs so they understand the concepts of Customer Service because clearly they do not. Good Luck in the future. read more

Came here on Valentine's day so longer of a wait, which was expected, but got sat at a table and waited over 20 mins to even be talked to by a waiter. Hotpot is good but the meat is bland (also expected). Korean BBQ was pretty good too, nice place to sit and chat. The decor was nice and intriguing to look at. Went for their sushi special they have going on and was certainly not expecting to wait 86 minutes. (Our server told us how long we had been sitting). I understand businesses can be hectic quick but if you're offering a special such as 50% off, you should expect to be prepared for any and all possibilities. Server also did not really talk to us and check in during that time, update us, or just acknowledge us until our food was ready to be prepared next. Place seems very inconsistent and like everyone has their own rules of the place. Cleanliness is also something I now fear from this establishment as a lady had told me she contracted a bacterial infection from her sushi she had consumed. Every spot was filled. So parked at Sam's club and walked over. Only waited 10 minutes to be sat even though they seemed slammed. Waited a little longer than expected for our food. Sat on the sushi side. Food was excellent. We ordered the "Titanic" boat load of sushi among other items. We did not get the sushi on a boat. It came out on plates. This bothered me. I wanted everything to be perfect because it was date night with my wife. Overheard the server talking to another server about the sushi bar being slammed and that they were not sending the sushi out on the boats because it took too long. With this info I was bummed. Didn't express it to the staff nor to my wife because I wanted to keep the night perfect. I highly recommend this place. We will go back often. Just next time I order a boat load of sushi, called the "Titanic", I want the sushi to come out on the ****** boat. Still a 10 out of 10, FIVE stars, awesome experience.
