Had a great meal here Saturday night. I had the Kra Prow Gai Kai Dao with chicken, which was excellent. My girlfriend enjoyed her red curry with chicken and there was enough for us to take home for a second meal. We finished with the sweet sticky rice with mango for dessert. (Definitely recommended.) They also kept my diet coke refilled, which I greatly appreciated since my dish was spicy. Thai Pad is a great addition to the neighborhood! read more

Awesome delicious authentic Thai food, got the larb gai, Sukhothai soup, and mango sticky rice. The larb gai was good, but the Sukhothai soup & mango sticky rice we're both phenomenal. The Sukhothai soup is a pork broth based soup that's very sour, I've had it in Thailand numerous times & Thai Pads version was as good, if not better then the ones I've had in Thailand. I'm a huge fan of Thai food and super picky (I used to help out at Thai Xing) but I've been happy with my experiences here! Funny with another reviewer, as I am too pregnant and trying to eat spicy foods to induce labor. I though, have a high tolerance for spicy food and Thai food always hits it right. I've tried the Tom kha, which is excellent. Not too much fish sauce, which some places can over due it. Its very aromatic, and you can really taste the galanga. I love it! I did notice the first time I had it, they gave me oyster mushrooms and the changed to button the second time. I had the papaya salad too, which I'm happy with as well. It's not to fishy or shrimpy either. Not as spicy as most places (I just got regular spicy) but im sure if I asked they could adjust. (Sometimes papaya salads can get too spicy though). Haven't tried any of the curries yet, but plan to in the future. The staff is really sweet too. I came in last Friday for some soup and EVERY table had a one or more children. (Welcome to the neighborhood!) I felt so bad for the staff, but they handled it really well. read more

BEWARE OF 20% TIP ADDED TO YOUR BILL! We have decided to try out this restaurant in our neighborhood and the food is so far ok. The wait staff were tentative and pleasant. The only disappointment for the night was the 20% tip added to our bill for a party of 3, my wife and daughter. Our normal tipping habit is at 20% as well but never automatically for party of 3 or at least allow the customer know ahead of time. We are restaurant owner as well and I do know it is suicidal to allow staff to automatically charge the tip, fastest way to loose customer. read more

Wish I could give more stars, since we do not have much in the neighborhood. The delivery is mostly fast, and convenient. I was a bit frustrated today, I ordered at 12 noon (clearly lunch time) and he charged me the dinner price. When I called to ask if they changed their prices, he said oops I charged you dinner price, but gave me no solutions or refund. Why would anyone call at 12 noon and want to pay for dinner price? I write this review after dining in the restaurant multiple times and taking out food yet more frequently. The food is good. Most is very good indeed. We like the Thai Fried Rice and the Spicy Eggplant and Tofu, and most of the noodle dishes. The appetizers are OK: not great and not bad. So why only three stars? Because the customer service is uneven. And because the restaurant is distinctly unwelcoming of families with small children. We thought that might be a false impression or perhaps based on a small sampling of experiences but we checked with friends and discovered that they left with the same strong impression. So, we will continue to order take-out because it is convenient. But we can walk to other good Thai restaurants and metro to a wide universe of competing Thai restaurants and we will do that if Thai Pad does not attend to customer service and an ability to serve families with children. read more

I've gone to Thai Pad three times so far -- twice for dinner and once for lunch. (Their lunch special is a steal. $10 for an entree with egg rolls and salad.) They have gotten better since they first opened, in terms of service and wait time for food. I think their dishes are pretty good but so far my favorite is their Four Brothers Soup. Pad Thai isn't too shabby and their Drunken Noodle is good too. Another plus for me, this place is super close to my apartment complex - which makes dinners on a busy week night easy. It's nice to have other options in the Van Ness area that aren't pizza, Burger King, and Acacia Bistro. read more

Visiting from out of town on a very hot August night ! Staying at a local hotel and didn't want to walk too far for dinner, I saw the lights in the window. I was going to take out, but saw how nice and quiet it was inside? I decided to dine in! I ordered the chicken satay, amazing ! The peanut sauce was thick and perfect. Excellent place to eat some flavorful Thai Food. Went to my go to Pad Kee Moi (drunken noodles). Excellent flavor and Spicey noodles. Couldn't get enough of it. Portion size was very adequate if not large. My daughter had the Pad Thai and said it was so good. She is a very picky eater. Service staff was very attentive and friendly. I came here for a cocktail after a long day. The Mai Thai that was made for me was pretty strong, no complaints there! It was quite tasty and I will be back for more. The restaurant is quaint and when I strolled in curiously around 5 on a weekday afternoon, there were only a few patrons, some eating alone. I would totally do the same since the servers were friendly and made the place itself feel like my living room, I was pretty comfortable. I wasn't able to try any entrées but I was able to try the sticky rice custard dessert. I was a bit disappointed because the serving was small....pretty small. So small that I was a little shocked. Maybe I was used to eating in Thailand where the portions are big enough to satisfy you...but no, the portion was gone in a bite and a half. I still think about it til this day. "Why so small, Thai Pad? Why?..." :'( This place is pricey for the size of the portions, but I'll definitely come back for another drink and to review the entrée options! read more

My husband and I just had the seafood drunken noodles, and shrimp pad thai. They was very good. The menu however is set up strangely where the protein is already chosen in the dish, and you can make a substitution. I didn't realize that initially, so it took me longer to go through the menu because I don't eat meat, I was reading the titles of food as chicken... and then passing them over before I realized that they were my regular dishes with the protein pre-chosen and that I could just swap it out. Hm. I'm disappointed. I was hoping this would be a great spot to grab take-out or get delivery, but so far it's hit-or-miss. Drunken noodles- YES. Red curry- YES. Tom yum soup- meh. It's a little underwhelming, lacking in heat and depth, small serving. Spicy eggplant- YES. Pad prik khing- NO NO NO. It was dry and crumbly and icky. The beans were sparse. It was gross. I've only tried this place twice, and I'll try it again, but it's overpriced and underdelicious. read more

Honestly, the best thai curries in the area. Really fresh veggies in any veggie curry, and the sauce is not too rich and not too liquid. Pad Thai is really good too and portions are really generous. The best part is that delivery is free! Sadly they just recently raised their prices but it is still good and I crave it frequently. read more

This is a small Thai place near the Van Ness metro stop. They have a cute outdoor seating area and a pretty extensive menu at decent prices for the area. I had the drunken noodles with pork and a Thai iced tea - both were good though I would only recommend the drunken noodles if you're okay with spicy food. My friend had the pad see ew and that was good as well. The staff was friendly too, as we stayed a little past when they closed without realizing it, and they were kind enough not to kick us out. I just ordered a Four Brothers Noodle Soup, which is supposed to be one of the restaurant's signature dishes. Unfortunately, when I first tasted the soup, it didn't taste fresh. The noodles were stuck together as a chunk and wouldn't spread out. And when I bit into the first shrimp dumpling, I tasted rubbing alcohol. I took a second bite into the dumpling and the alcohol smell and taste remained strong. With hesitation, I tried the second shrimp dumpling, it was the same rubbing alcohol taste. It almost as if someone used hand sanitizer right before touching the shrimp. I then called the restaurant asking for the manager. A woman answered and she said she was the manager on duty. I explained to her the problems and her first reaction was to ask my name, not to apologize or offer a refund. I told her that she should report this situation to the owner for improvement but she didn't sound assuring at all. I hope I don't get sick from the food tonight. As much as I try to support our neighborhood restaurants, with this experience, I will not order food from Thad Pad again. read more

Thai Pad is still open during the crisis, and thank goodness because this is my favorite Thai food spot in Washington, DC! They have been absolute heroes during this time, and I appreciate them so much for keeping their doors open. They're takeout only, but they have taken extremely safe measures to make sure their customers and staff are a safe social distance from each other. I love this place! If you go to the restaurant the servers are always super nice and the food is fresh and tastes clean, not old and reheated. I've tried every single thing on the menu that doesn't have seafood and I've been satisfied with it all. Some of my favorites include the pad see ew (the broccoli rabe is so delicious) and the sukhothai. Having food delivered is a different story. They often forget parts of your order and if your building's sour receptionist pisses off the delivery guy he'll demand you come get your food while the receptionist glares at you. This has happened multiple times. Go eat there! Order delivery only in dire emergencies. read more

Thai food is my absolute favorite and it's usually hard for me not to enjoy it but I've had their Lemongrass soups and it was once a hit and twice fail...no consistency. Also their red curry, massaman curry and panang curry were all watered down and runny ..absolutely no flavorful substance.
