Ordered Ladnar with beef. The noodle part of the dish was very SMALL and way out of proportion to the broth/gravy and meat. Not a whole lot of flavor/seasoning. Bland but edible. It was almost $20. And then also got the crab Rangoons which were so small and DRY for $10. Definitely needed the dip because there wasn't a lot of flavor or crunch. The dip was a bit too sweet. Easily the best restaurant in DeKalb, but here I am writing a bad review. I've been eating here for years both carryout and dine in and have never had a problem until my most recent trip. The service here is usually so good but I'm not sure what happened. Even more unfortunate, I brought friends from out of town who were just stopping by on their way to Chicago and I had promised them that we /do/ have good places to eat in DeKalb. ... So much for that. We went in right when lunch special hours started and the restaurant was empty. Waitress told us to sit wherever we wanted. Then the first not-so-good sign. I've worked in a restaurant before and I understand the value of seating charts and having waitstaff assigned to certain sections, especially when it's busy. Being lunch hours, this place got busy FAST and then we essentially got ignored the rest of the time we were there. People who came in way after us were served, got their food, and left before we even got our food. Our drinks were empty and no one stopped to refill them or see how we were doing even though both waitresses stopped at every table around ours. It was to the point that my friend asked me if we were purposely being ignored because that's what it seemed like. They would just walk past us, not even look at us (one even looked at our table and then looked away?), and it got to the point where we had been there over an hour and we had to verbally get the attention of a waitress to request the check and boxes which I hate doing and I think is the most rude/embarrassing thing ever. As per usual, the food was great. Still easily some of the best Thai food I've had in the Chicagoland area, but the service made me really skeptical about eating here again. I recommend their fresh lime chicken and duck curry. I've only been here twice but both my experiences were good! The flavors are strong but not overpowering. Staff are nice and the atmosphere cozy. The best place for thai in dekalb and probably the whole Sycamore area. The duck curry was really good. The duck came with some skin and you could really taste the roasted duck flavor in the meat and curry. I also asked them to make it extra spicy, which they did well. Some places also make their curries with too much coconut milk but that was not a problem here. I also liked their fresh lime chicken a lot too. It's best shared by 2 and used as an appetizer/desert. It's a bit heavy as it's both fried and sweet. It's basically the same as walnut shrimp from other places. The breading and frying is pretty thin and the added lime gives the dish a subtle sour kick. The staff was very friendly, but somewhat to a fault. Over the course of a meal, I had multiple waiters come over 4 or 5 times asking if the meal was good or if we needed anything. While well intentioned, it can be very disrupting. But it didn't affect me too much. If you're in the area and like thai, definitely give these guys a try! read more

We used to go here regularly. They had good food at moderate prices. The prices have gone up and the quality has gone down (quite a bit on both accounts). We recently ordered 4 dishes for take out. Two of the dishes used to be favorites of mine that I would eat until I was stuffed. They are now mediocre. The sauce used to be thick, now it's watery and lacking flavor. Leftovers never survived over a week in the past, they are in the fridge getting old right now. Very disappointing. Not worth the $$$. read more

I LOVE Thai food. I love to go to New thai restaurants when I visit a town. This place did not disappoint. It will be my go to spot every time I'm in the area. I ordered the spicy basil fried rice. This usually my go-to for new places. It was above and beyond delicious. The prices was full of flavor. The presentation was colorful and amazing. The portions were very fulling. My colleague had to take his home. It was his first time eating thai and he was hooked. The only reason I am giving it 4 stars is because I only tried the one dish. Definitely one of my favorite Thai Restaurants. I went to NIU for undergrad and grad school, so I've been here many times! The service is always great, workers are friendly (my friends used to work here too), and the owner is genuinely nice. Some of my favorite dishes include chicken tom yum soup, red curry, green curry, masaman curry, lime chicken, pad see ew, pad ke mao, and of course chicken pad thai! You honestly can't go wrong here. Not something you want to eat everyday. Even our 'better' food isn't that great. Thai Pavillion is something special. It's a small, little, hole in the wall restaurant in DeKalb that consistently makes amazing Thai dishes. I'm a huge fan of curry and noodles and they make some of the best. The masaman curry is my favorite. A sweet dish with coconut milk, yellow curry, sweet potatoes, onion and your choice of meat. I typically choose chicken, but beef is good also. If you decide to dine in or take out, they make food fairly quick here. Not a whole lot of waiting. The staff is usually pretty friendly and I've never had a bad experience yet. Be adventurous and try something new every time you go here. You won't be disappointed. Also, don't forget the Thai Iced Tea! They make it really good. read more

Food was amazing here! I had the spicy chicken Beanthread Pad Thai which is the same as the Pad Thai but just with glass noodle instead of the wide noodle. It was sooooo good. who would ever expect such a hidden jem in DeKalb....for goodness sakes, it's DeKalb!! No one really travels here unless they live here, go to NIU, work here, or stopped in the middle of a destination. I am so glad this place exists. This was actually my first date with my boyfriend. I went here 5 years ago and I have been hooked since. The decor is pretty lousy, but their food makes up for it. I went there today and had their pad Thai and it seems to get better and better every time I go. I have also tried and love the spicy basil and love that too. The other thing we usually get is one of the curries: red or green, love them both! Service is pretty good. Most of the people get their food ordered for take out, but it's a nice little cozy place to enjoy a nice meal. I think I would drive a few hours just to eat this Thai food when I eventually move out of DeKalb. If I move out of the state I might just have to fly back for this hunger that I have for Thai food. Without a doubt, the best Thai restaurant in town! My boyfriend goes to NIU and always has a craving for some good Pad Thai, so one day we decided to try out Thai Pavilion since it's pretty close. The restaurant itself is very nice; quiet, clean, and nicely decorated. I love that you can seat yourself, instead of waiting for a hostess. The wait staff is very friendly and always there when you need them. Now, the food: the Pad Thai is simply delicious! Definitely the best I've ever had! It's made to perfection; it's very flavorful and refreshing, and the portion is pretty generous! That's all my boyfriend and I have ever ordered here, but based on how tasty it is, I'm sure everything else on the menu is just as good. Next time we'll have to try some of their appetizers! Unfortunately, I've only been here a few times (since I live all the way in Florida!), but if I lived nearby I'd definitely be here often for my Thai fix! They've done some cosmetic upgrades,such as finally reprinting the menus, slightly refreshing the decor,replacing the awful old torn awning, and ordering more matching glassware, which is good as the place was starting to look a little run-down. Instead of generic mints, you now get little Asian guava candies, which is a nice touch. The food is still very good; they also now have some daily specials which I don't remember before. My daughter and her friends were mistreated, racially profiled, humiliated and scream at for bringing up the fact that one of her friends is allergic to peanuts and the meal was not good. This a should have been enough for the manager to take action and kindly remove the food item. For a grown man to insult three young girls in front of others dinning is the most unprofessional behavior. No matter how upsetting a costumers behavior is to stand and insult someone dining at your location is horrible. As a mother of a young colored young lady I am proud of her for standing up and protecting her friend. Shame on you for doing this to people especially racially profiling. We can definitely afford to pay for her to go out to eat but to ask a costumer if the reason they are bringing up a concern is due to not being able to play is shameful on you. The first time we went here was around Christmas 2010. On that trip, we had the Lime Chicken, which is a delightful combination of fried pieces of chicken and crispy fried "greens" with a sweet lime sauce and small slices of lime. I've seen this on the menu at Thai restaurants only a few times, and it's a favorite. We also had the Larb (sort of a salad), also quite good. Our other entree was the Panang Salmon. Panang curry is one of our favorites, but we'd never seen it offered with Salmon. Gotta be our new favorite Panang meat. We went back a few weeks ago, and had another delicious meal. What a find for our party of three on Mothers Day. Surprised to find such delicious Thai food in DeKalb. We shared the Basil Rolls which were cut into bite-size pieces. Truly a beautiful presentation. Although I couldn't detect any of the shrimp that we had ordered, the dish was delicious nonetheless. My pineapple fried rice with chicken was some of the best I have ever had. Lovely presentation and a very large portion. The other two in our party had duck entrees. One had duck curry which was proclaimed "excellent. The other roasted duck dish looked tasty, but there was a lot of skin to contend with. Thai Pavilion apparently does not have a liquor licence. For DH and me that was a negative as we enjoy a good Thai beer with Thai food. Meanwhile we opted for water and Thai tea (hot). The comfortable, pleasant decor added to the enjoyment of the meal. Next time we are in the DeKalb area, we will make a point of returning to Thai Pavilion. While in DeKalb on business, I visited the Thai Pavillion twice and was extremely happy with my meals. Both days I was there during the lunch rush and even when extremely busy, the service was excellent and the food comes out very fast. I had the beef and broccoli once and the chicken pad thai the other time. Both were excellent! The lunch portion is more than enough each time! I'll be back! read more
