So my aunt called me from California to tell me about Thai pepper, and how it's supposed to be one of the best buffets around. I love Thai food so it didn't take any convincing to head over. They are located in a cute pink building, with their own parking lot. Every time I visit it has been decently busy but we easily find parking. I have only gone for the lunch buffet and I am so happy every time I do. The buffet is small but mighty. They have plenty of vegetarian dishes, and meat dishes. Labeled to let you know what the spice level is. I always go for the fried fish it's amazing, Pad Thai, peanut chicken, basil chicken, egg rolls, fried wontons, eggplant, and spring rolls. So basically everything. I have eaten the curry and it's delicious as well. They are constantly bringing out fresh food, and the restaurant is clean. DO NOT GO HERE!!! Our chicken was OLD ! My mother and I went here for a lunch and our curry came out with slimy chicken. It was very clearly old chicken because it was chewy and smelled funny. We tried explaining it to the manager but she told us we didn't know what chicken tastes like!!? She sent out a second curry and the chicken again came out the same. Think this may be my new favorite spot in BR! The service was great and the food came out quick! The restaurant itself was cute, clean, and adhered to social distancing. There was also a small salad bar and a dessert area. I found a few things I really enjoyed. The desserts were not for me though we shared each one they had . If I had to describe Thai Pepper in one work then I would say "freshness." Their ingredients and food always tastes so fresh. I have seen plant pots with fresh basil growing in them so I know they grow some of their own ingredients which adds a level of comfort I have not really gotten from other places. They have arguably the best lunch buffet in Baton Rouge, if not the state. Unfortunately, the lunch buffet is a no-go right now due to COVID. Their lunch menu is great though. They offer an affordable, variety of Thai dishes that are quite sizable portions. They also offer 4 spice levels which I quite enjoy. Thai Pepper is my favorite Thai restaurant in Baton Rouge! It is a local family-owned business that always has fresh and tasty selections that are mostly healthy. The main attraction is the lunch buffet, which offers one many options to try. It rotates through the week, so you can try different dishes on different days. There is even a printed schedule that allows you to plan your dining in advance. Some of the highlights are Fresh Rolls, which are little spring roll like vegetarian creations of fresh veggies, herbs, and noodles in a rice wrapper. Pad Thai noodles are always a big hit. The Lemon Grass soup is always great, spiced with lemon grass which I am pretty sure they grow out back. The Thai Omelette is very good and has great spices. There are always a nice selection of vegetarian dishes, salads, and desserts. Be aware that the fried squid is some of the best I have ever eaten, absolutely excellent! Then there is dessert. The Black Rice Dessert is my favorite, different and very tasty. Then there are the creamy, fruity options. There are even a number of special drinks to try. A minor word of warning though, if they identify a dish as hot, they are not kidding! The ones marked medium or spicy are warm without being overwhelming. Then when a waitress acknowledged us and was walking us to a table, the lady at the cash register was yelling at her not to seat us where she seated us...but we went ahead and sat down and proceeded with lunch. For lunch, it is a buffet style Thai restaurant. I've never had buffet style Thai food so I was a little worried. However, the food was pretty delightful. The Thai fried rice was delicious. The chicken with peanut sauce was good and had great flavor and kick. The chicken larb was decent. The dessert I had (black glutinous rice) was confusing...I'm not sure if I liked it or not...it is something that MUST be experienced. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't bad and I'm not apathetic towards it, I literally don't know if I liked because the flavor profile was SO different to me. They have some really nice Thai food, but I still miss their buffet. They shut the buffet down during COVID but as of yet have not reinstated it for lunch. I find their closure between lunch and dinner problematic for myself because I tend to have a very early dinner or eat a late lunch. But, many restaurants in Baton Rouge have a similar situation and hours. My favorite dish there is their yellow curry with pineapple and vegetables. read more

This old pink building holds a gem of a restaurant. The food at this Thai buffet is fantastic. Always hot with lots of things to choose from. The workers get you in and out quickly, even when they are slammed for lunch (which is most days.) Come hungry because you're going to want to try everything! Growing up we ate their buffet and there were some vegetarian options. Today I revisited and accompanied a friend who has never been here before. No dinner rush so we had the restaurant all to ourselves for 10 min. We both had the Thai ice tea with whipped cream and it was good. I ordered the sweet basil without the onions and spring rolls and my friend had the combo pad Thai and chicken satay. I'm very sensitive to onions especially the red onions and she forgot to mention in the back. She brought it back to the kitchen but I'm not sure if they fixed me a new plate or just removed the onions...it just wasn't tasty. I hate to waste food so I usually bring my uneaten food from the restaurant and bring it home and try to improve the taste. I can tell my friend wasn't crazy about his food either because he usually finishes his plate if it was good. About an hour later, our stomachs were making all sort of noises. I started with Chicken Nam Sod which was very good, the spicy a plant also excellent with a hint of smokiness from grilling, the fried calamari was okay and I got a fresh salad with peanut sauce and a much too flavorless and mild coconut chicken soup. I was second guessing it by it being my first time eating Thai food and also being raised in Baton Rouge I always loved Cajun food but the food here was seasoned to perfection and we got everything Thai spicy! It isn't heat that makes your tongue or mouth burn but it can sneak up on you. Admittedly though, I'm a wimp when it comes to spicy stuff but it's yummy. However, this place is great. For lunch, I'd suggest getting there before noon as it packs in quickly, and it's a very cozy spot. My lunch was $10.50 for the buffet and water, before tip. This place needs to be in my regular rotation of places. The restaurant is authentic, well priced, and, though it is a buffet, is very fresh due to how busy the restaurant is. I was easily able to get in and out for lunch on a workday in less than an hour. I will say, the desserts were a little too savory for me (I mean, still sweet, but I didn't expect the level of savory) -- black rice pudding, tapioca pudding. I can't even really remember exactly what I ate because I took a little bit of everything during their lunch buffet and WAS NOT disappointed.
