What a lovely gem Thai Phoon is! Gotta be honest, the main draw was the name. How adorable. Gave us a good laugh. But seriously. This place is great. From the service to the food we had a great visit. The staff was so nice and friendly making sure we were well taken care of. The food. We came for lunch so we got the lunch special which turned out to be a fantastic deal! You get to start with a spring roll and soup. Both of which tasted fresh and had soooo much flavor. At the table we had Pad Thai, Pad Se Ew, and mixed vegetables with tofu. All of us commented on how flavorful the dishes were. I will warn though, their medium is a bit spicier than most Thai places I've been too. Not terribly spicy, but enough to get all our noses running. Living in Citrus County leaves you with fewer options for different food items. Thai is one of my absolute favorites and I recently found out Thai Phoon was only a few miles down the road. My husband and I decided to give it a try and were very happy with our choice! The outside of Thai Phoon doesn't give away much about the restaurant. It's a plaza with a seafood joint and a half-empty Save-A-Lot, but once you get inside you can tell the staff really cares about the service they are providing. The menu is extensive enough that you can get traditional dishes or curry (many types might I add) and everything is labeled so you know exactly what is in each dish. We both got curry, which came out very quickly, and it was amazing. The bowl was full of vegetables and meat, so we felt the pricing was very fair, and left quite full. I'm super excited to have this spot close by, I'm sure I'll be coming back soon! read more

This restaurant is in a strip mall and the reviews were good so I figured I'd give it a try. I was glad I did. The lunch specials portions were large. Lunch comes with a yummy cup of soup and a veggie roll which was also delicious. I had cashew chicken. You get to decide how spicy and I chose medium and it was great. Just the right amount of heat, great veggies, lots of chicken. A great value for the price. My friend had a curry and loved it. I would definitely eat here again if I was in the area. Whoever was cooking or prepping the food for today has a dull palate. almost every item was either crazy sweet or overly salty. Even the curry puffs were stupidly sweet (an item that shouldn't even need sugar). When you have fresh ingredients, allow the flavor of the fresh ingredients to sing. salt and sugar are flavor enhancers and should never overpower or be the lead of any dish. The items that are normally sweet were ridiculously sweet and overtook the delicate natural sweetness of the main ingredients ie mangos and sticky rice and thai ice tea. Crab rangoons completely void of crab and scallion/onion flavor - just tasted of cream cheese and sweetener. read more

The Food tasted good here until.... Until I ordered the pad woon sen took a few bites then took a bite of rock. So many questions like why was there a rock in my noodles lmao. And how did nobody notice a rock in the noodles when cooking it. So I called to ask Thats when they told me they were sorry and can only offer my money back if i bring it in. Told them dont apologize then hung up. They call me back and tell me theyll give me a store credit and proceed to explain that the rock got in the noodles because they dry the noodles on the ground. I was not expecting too much when my friend and I came to Thai Phoon--it's in a strip mall in Crystal River, a city that has a fine geographic location and the attraction of ample natural wonders, but also one that has seen its economy take a nose-dive due to the general recession and now the loss of its nuclear power plant. Ecotourism and the remaining coal-fueled power plant are about the only big movers in the local economy nowadays and the poor local mall looks like it has one foot in the proverbial grave already. However, despite the location and small if cozy size of the restaurant itself, the food was amazing. The menu is pretty standard to Americanized Thai, but offers a good variety nonetheless and the atmosphere is a bit worn at the edges and yes, in a small space, but still comfortable enough and I would even say pretty inviting. The service is prompt and no issues there, but really, the food is what sets Thai Phoon apart. My red curry with chicken was great--simply great--and the spring rolls were pretty good, too. The quality of the food--simple, straight-forward, Thai home-cooking--would hold its own in any market, be it San Francisco or New York even. For Crystal River, this is certainly a very welcome surprise. read more

Looking at real estate in the area and our realtor suggested here or the seafood place next door. Since 30-40 people were waiting for tables next door we decided on Thai. The first measure of a Thai restaurant for us is the Tom Kha Gai. Theirs was spot on with a nice fresh flavor and plenty of coconut. My chicken was a bit chewy but the broth was perfect. My wife had a shrimp Pra Ram. She normally can't finish most entrees and I get some of her shrimp. Not with this dish. She finished it all. I had the Thai Chili Basil with pork. Good flavor but the sauce was more like broth than sauce. Not as much meat as would be expected but plenty of vegetables. If you don't want to wait a long time for seafood, you won't be disappointed here. read more

Really great Thai spot in the middle of nowhere! The food was amazing and the service was top notch. Everyone worked together as a team and we were never left waiting for anything, nor were we rushed. I am glad we checked it out! The plaza it's in is not the most glamorous, nothing in that town is... The food was stellar. Appetizers: Chicken Satay appetizers. The accompanying peanut sauce and cucumber salad were so good! I miss the old days of the little satay BBQ, but also remembering how many times my brother and I tried to make it smoke more as a child, I understand why they don't have them anymore. :) Fried Dumplings- Really good. Wonton Soup- a little bland at first, but after some soy love it was delish. Entrees: My dad had the duck curry, and loved it. I had the chicken massaman curry and it was really tasty. My kids had the volcano chicken, and the lady put the sauce on the side, but my kids enjoyed it drenched all over it. Good call for the kids! Chicken Fried Rice- I could have had two more orders of it. It was so tasty!!! Absolutely delish! Wine was decent and very inexpensive. Thai Phoon is a hidden gem in Crystal River. My wife and I were looking for something new to try and stumbled across Thai Phoon on Yelp. I have to admit that upon arrival I was a little concerned based upon the outside appearance of the restaurant. We decided to move forward based on all of the positive reviews from previous visitors. The inside of the restaurant is low lit and comfortable. We were immediately seated and drink orders were taken. Summer rolls are our favorite so we placed an order. The rolls came with two medium sized shrimp and a thin strip of chicken running down the center. The peanut dipping sauce was sweeter than normal and packed with peanuts. I went with the Panang curry (my favorite) and it did not disappoint. The bowl was massive and came packed with bell peppers, chicken, peanuts, and diced water chestnuts. The flavor was out of this world. The spice level was moderate. The staff was very attentive and my water glass never reached the bottom. I am sure that we will be visiting Thai Phoon again in the future! read more

Really confused. We ordered pad kee mao...which is drunken noodles and typically in a spicy brown sauce. We got chicken and veggies in an almost like sweet and sour sauce with a side of rice.
