This place has been around for a very long time and is really the only Thai place in the Mukilteo area. I was leaving SeaTac and wanted to order some soup so that it was ready when I got to Mukilteo. I called ahead and the person on the line was very kind and helpful! I told her I would be there in about 45 minutes and asked if the Tom Kha soup could be ready when I arrived. Well...it's impossible to predict Seattle traffic and somehow we wound up getting there a lot faster. I called back and asked if they could have my soup ready earlier and they were incredibly accommodating. When I arrived my soup was ready to go! I've never eaten inside, I've only ever gotten take out, but it seems like a nice place. They have a big bar area that's a bit separated from the main dining room. They now go by Hot Basil Thai Kitchen...but I don't think they want to deter people who call it Thai Rama III so they have signs with both names outside. read more

We're new to town and we were looking for something close to home, quick and delicious. Hot Basil Thai was exactly what we were looking for. I ordered the vegetable delight and my husband ordered the house rice. We were going to order the house rice and share it but good thing we decided to order the vegetables because the portion sizes are a little small for the price and we would have missed trying the amazing vegetables that were definitely a delight. They had the perfect flavors d were cooked just tender enough to enjoy without imagining all the nutrients cooked away. With Hot Thai being within walking distance, I'm sure we will become regular patrons. I ordered the yellow curry with chicken. The description says it comes with peanuts. The last few times I ordered it there were no peanuts. I asked them about it and they said it depends on the cook. Say what!!??? I said the food should match the description, no matter who cooks it. They said next time in the comments section ask for peanuts. I said I should not have to ask for something that the description says is included. I did ask for peanuts this time and still no peanuts. The curry is good, but it's mostly sauce - very very few carrots, potatoes, onions, and of course no peanuts. There is so much sauce and little else that now i have to order two sides of rice. Thai Rama changed ownership to Hot Basil...the differences are noticeable and unfortunately not good. My family used to love eating in. The service was fantastic and very personalized. The food was fantastic. Since the new owners took over there has been a steady decline in food quality with a steep incline in prices. We kept going back tho king they'll get better...they're not. We previously loved Thai Rama II and were not expecting the same experience at whatever the name of this place is (Yelp says Thai Rama III, paint on door and vinyl sign hanging outside windows of the restaurant say Hot Basil Thai, but old Thai Rama II signage is still posted and menus also say Thai Rama). I also don't write reviews often, but need to share our experience. We were greeted upon arrival and told to choose our seating. We selected the only clean booth available. Menu said Thai Rama and was from old restaurant, but had some dishes from the old restaurant crossed off. We ordered timely and were told rice came with the curry orders, which is also indicated on the menu. We received our food timely: spring rolls and yellow curry (1 cxn, 1 tofu) with white rice. Food was certainly different. Spring rolls were good but no appetizer plates so I used my single napkin to eat over. Consistency for the curry was thinned out, tasted watered down. My husband specifically stated the chicken tasted like the gum that used to come in the Topps baseball card packs. The tofu is soft, not fried like previous, but was fine. Our waters and sodas sat empty for about 15 minutes before flagging someone down to refill them. The server took our glasses back behind the bar to fill them, which isn't very common in a non-busy restaurant. It seemed they just didn't want to do dishes, honestly. We stacked our cleaned plates and set them to the edge of the table for clearing, and waited to be approached again for a box and our check with the card to pay also on the edge of the table. Ten minutes later we had still not been approached-- by this time we were one of 2 tables in the dining area. There was 1 table in the bar. At least 5 staff visible onsite. Staff was taking turns to play with what appeared to be an owner/employee toddler (she was a cutie!). However, we were being totally ignored. I walked up to the register by the bar to pay our bill and was asked by a server if I was being helped. Uh, no. We just need to pay our check. The server noted we had to wait a few minutes because they only have one card machine in the restaurant to take payment. A second server came to me at the bar while I was waiting by the register and asked if she could help me. This was the server who took our order and then ignored us the rest of the hour we were there. I noted I just needed to pay the bill. She just walked away. The other server came back with the card machine and bill. We noted the prices on our bill differed from what was printed on the menu, and the rice was charged extra-- despite me specifically asking if it came with rice. We were already so annoyed that we just paid the bill. To be honest I contemplated just walking out without paying, but my husband elected to leave a terrible tip instead. Overall, we were made to feel ignored and like a burden while there. We miss the old ownership and are sad we have to find another quality dine-in Thai restaurant in our area. We were visiting in Seattle, when my sister invited us to Thai Rama. The Spring Rolls were sensational with their Jumbo shrimp rolled into a beautiful presentation. Each of our meals was delicious, and the service was the best. It's a cozy place to have lunch or dinner. We'll definitely come back! read more

I ordered online. Thai Rama has changed name to Hot Basil. I ordered $200.00 worth of food. Never got email confirmation. Called restaurant. The woman who answered said they never got order. I said my card was charged $200.00. She said not her problem. I called US Bank and yes the payment was made to Hot Basil. I am now in dispute process and bank will not take charge off. Came here to celebrate a birthday. Decor was very neat, very clean restaurant. More space inside than what it looks like on the outside. Looks like there is good space for groups but maybe call and verify. Parking lot is small so I recommend carpooling. I managed to get a good spot in front. The food was okay. I didn't have any complaints on it but it wasn't the best I have ever had. Although the spring rolls were good it was two dollars for one and I felt that was a little steep, however the price for pad see ew was fair. They gave a good amount for what you paid for. Called in to rsvp for a party of 25, and Thai Rama handled it splendidly! I was able to order ahead and when we got there, they started preparing and handing them out very quickly. I gave them a list of orders with names which was very useful in handing out the dishes. Their lunch specials are very affordable and the food was pretty good! We ordered beef and broccoli, avacodo curry and ground chicken salad. They were all very yummy and we would definitely order there again. The restaurant is located near a quiet residential area. It was clean with friendly staff. Nice area for a sit down meal. We ordered take out and our selections were ready in under 20 min. They also have delivery. This was a delightful find. From the incredible courtesy shown to all their guests, to outstanding cocktails, AND very good cuisine, this restaurant deserves to be much more popular than what it appears to be! They ALWAYS go the extra mile to accommodate their customers. They honor special requests, and you can tell that EVERYTHING is made from scratch, from the freshest ingredients, with the greatest of preparation. This was my "go to" Thai restaurant when it first opened years ago. My favorite dishes were the chicken pad se ew, curry rolls, and their wide variety of curries. Something must have changed recently because the food is not the same. There are a few great places nearby. We ordered takeout from here last Friday. It was a large order, totaling close to $150. It was really a mixed bag. First off, they forgot our fried tofu and we'd traveled too far away to come back for it. Next, the two orders of sticky rice, costing $5.95 each, were small tinfoil wrapped clumps, not big enough to serve one person. The green curry was flavorful and full of ingredients. The only issue was approximately every other piece of chicken was chewy and rubbery, which was very unappetizing. Fresh rolls were tasty, especially the plum dipping sauce. This little gem of a restaurant is hidden away in the cute little area of Mukilteo with a tiny shopping area. The food is exquisite, the flavors are spot on delicious. Never lose the chef! My only advice is to either call in the order or order online. One time we placed an order in person and took our dog for a walk. But they didn't start the order until we got back. So order ahead and pick it up. If you can eat indoors, the space is super cute, lime green walls. They do play Asian pop music at a loud volume so watch for that. I used to go here more frequently and decided to come back to try this place out again after a few years. It's a little hidden inside an apartment complex. Parking is not the biggest but there's never an issue finding a spot. The place itself is pretty roomy, and the layout of the chairs and tables keep it feeling pretty open with plenty of space to move around comfortably. There's booth seating, regular table seating, and even a bar area. We ordered tom yum soup, pad thai, and pad see ew. The food was all made fresh and hot, and it was all very flavorful and filling. We were pretty satisfied with everything. Nothing too overpowering or bland. The service here is great. There's a lady who specifically greeted us so nicely when we came in, checked up on us once in a while, and gave us opportunities to give feedback on anything good or bad. Had to revise to say that I went back this evening and two out of three cooks in the back weren't wearing masks (again). I even asked the woman at the front "why the cooks weren't wearing masks," and she turn to her coworker, said something I couldn't understand, but no one made a move to put the mask on and she didn't even despond to me. She just stood there and waited for me to take my food and go. And the real kicker? There were HAIRS was in my food. Yes, more than one. LONG hair no less, buried within my food. Absolutely disgusting. It's disappointing that this is one of two restaurants in this little town center near my work. But I'm not coming back here. The convenience is not worth it anymore. Update: I called to ask for a refund, which I should get because I couldn't eat what I paid for with there hairs in it, and the employee told me I needed to bring my order from the night before IN to get a refund. Who keeps something that disgusting to bring it back?! This isn't a shirt that's being exchanged. So I said I had photos but not the food because why would I keep inedible food. She told me to call the owners on Sunday, and I said I would and would also ask why their cooks weren't required to wear masks either and the employee hung up on me. This is hands down the best Thai place in the area. They are incredibly fast at getting your food out, and it always tastes amazing. I am addicted to their Pad-See-Ew dish which I order with tofu and ask them to remove the egg to make it vegan. This dish is wide rice noodles with a black bean sauce, tofu, and broccoli and carrots. A lot of Thai restaurants make this dish with soy sauce as the base, which is an issue if you're gluten intolerant. I've never had a reaction from this dish and I eat it probably once a week. They have online ordering available too for takeout. But they have a very nice dining room and bar area as well. read more

Just moved to the area, I love pineapple curry and sticky rice and peanut sauce. My rice, regular white and sticky rice, weren't cooked all the way, and my white rice had yellow spots all over it, I was scared to eat it, and my chicken had a fishy smell to it. The only thing I enjoyed was the peanut sauce, with rice I ended up cooking at home. I may try again but I don't know, I feel like nothing was fresh and I'm terrified of getting food poisoning read more

"Appalled" is the word I would use to describe our experience at Thai Rama III tonight. It's unfortunate this restaurant will no longer be our neighborhood go-to Thai place. The 3 of us arrived at 6:30 pm; there was only 1 other table who were finished with their dinner. The waitress was someone we've never seen before. She told us to sit wherever and brought us the menus. We took our time to review the options and waited and waited and waited. Meanwhile, she was chatting with the kitchen staff, taking several phone orders, and collecting money. We glanced her way several times but was ignored. Fifteen minutes after receiving our menus, she was still busying herself with other stuff. Finally, as I stood up to put on my coat, she moseyed on over but stopped midway. My husband said "are you ready for us because we were about to head across the street?" She did not apologize but instead gave us an annoyed look and said "I'm ready to take your order but if you want to do something else, that's fine." Wow! She apparently has too many customers and could care less about losing a regular. A simple apology would have turned everything around. We decided that our business was not wanted and left. She promptly turned her back and walked back towards the kitchen counter. What a bleep with a bad attitude! We went across the street to Umami and received excellent service! read more

Thai Rama III is one of the few Thai options in the area, and food is usually right on. I've been in for lunch a few times and dinner once. Interestingly enough, I found portion sizes about the same, while the dinner pricing was a few dollars more. I always have Orange Chicken with carrots and pea pods, and it's very good. Sauce is really flavorful without being too heavy, a great choice on a warm afternoon. Service is friendly, but slow expect to wait a little bit to have your drink refilled or get extra rice. All in all, a good place for lunch, and really outstanding if you have business to discuss and it's quiet enough to have a conversation even when they are busy during the lunch rush. read more

Not to mention the receipt was conveniently creased and torn just below the items we received. Obviously done by someone and not how they tear it off; we actually recreated it on the same receipt.
