Ok, so a coworker of mine always recommended Thai Silk. Now mind you that I'm not an expert on Thai cuisine, but I did enjoy their Pad Kee Mao with shrimp. It had a nice bite to it, and the onions and basil gave it a nice taste. Of course I had to get a Thai Ice Tea too. The service was great and in fact I felt bad for the woman who was running the place as it seemed like when her coworker went out to do a delivery, she was having to fend for herself. Which you could tell by her hustling to serve customers and was always apologetic. Nice to feel she has pride in her service and hospitality. As for the ambiance it was pretty clean and quiet, minus some rude customers that came in asking for a large order that was still not due for a few minutes. Granted with the short staff it did take a bit longer, but they didn't have to cause such a ruckus while others were trying to enjoy their afternoon lunch. My husband and I like to order Thai food every so often when we work from home together. Even though we love the place we usually order from, we figured we should try something new and found Thai Silk. I got the seafood rice plate, my husband got the chicken pad see ew, and dumplings to share. For the price of my plate ($16.99), his plate ($13.99) and the dumplings ($10), I thought the plates would be quite large (as they are in the other Thai place we like. I was shocked to find the plates are so small! And it didn't make up for it in taste either. My rice was so dry, unappealing and essentially tasteless. If it weren't for the dumpling sauce I used on the rice mixed with chili paste it wouldn't have been good at all. I was also very displeased that when we picked up the food and asked for sriracha sauce, the lady said she already put a different hot sauce in the bag--- and I said that's fine, we'll take sriracha too-- to which she replied, "so you want to give the other sauce back?!" Um, NOOOO! How stingy is she?!! Charging so much for such small plates of tasteless food, and still trying to cut corners with hot sauce. Lady, that's what made the plate tolerable! read more

They are now open for dine in and are still taking precautions to keep customers safe... I absolutely love Thai food and I'm glad I don't have to drive to far to get something good... I have ordered the shrimp wonton soup which was delicious, and the Mango sticky rice is a must have, it is definitely my favorite... I love that Thai food always has healthy alter if you don't want to eat rice or noodles... I have had the tiger salad from here, its good and not to spicy... I have also ordered the papaya salad which was ok... The pineapple fried rice is good and comes with a good portion of meat... The delivery guy is part of this family owned business and demanded to tip him 15% MORE (on top of $3 fee on our receipt). Delivery guy states that it's the law to pay the 15% - Umm excuse me sir.. It's 15%+ for dining in NOT for delivery! (trying to tax us!) Doesn't end there, when trying to give him additional $10 and the change for tip - the delivery guy had the nerve to throw the money back! (who does that!?) Great food. Friendly family run place. They also will deliver as long as you don't go through Grubhub, which don't do so well following delivery instructions. They have recently repainted the dining area. This place is the holy grail of Thai food. They have clean tasting delicious food, the food is very well priced, and they offer their OWN delivery! I've had the Pad See Ew, Pad Kee Mao, and the fried riced (all winners!). I've spent more time than I would like to admit trying to find a good Thai place in the area (no one has time to go all the way to Thai town). If I find a place that is good its almost $20 dollars a plate and the portions are so stingy. If I find a place with good prices the food is super lackluster. I crave the food here, they can make it SPICY if you want and they include more veggies with the rice and noodle dishes that other places. read more

Delicious! I participated in a class that catered from Thai silk express. We had pad Thai, pad see ew, and a chicken curry. The pad see ew was hands down AMAZING. It has a sweet flavor to it, a nice texture, and I was also really impressed at how good the curry was. It looks good, but tastes even better, especially with the rice. It was super satisfying to the taste buds. If you've never had Thai food before or are looking for a Thai place to go to in DTLA, come here. Order out, because you won't regret it -- you'll end up enjoying it!! The pad Thai though, was probably my least favorite of the three. Thanks to the wonders of Grubhub I was able to enjoy a delightful bowl of their Yellow Curry with Chicken! The curry soup was delightful, a perfect combination of savory and sweetness, the chicken was cut into thin slivers so it is easy to eat - almost bite site, a generous amount of carrots and potatoes was nicely tenderized in this dish, it is tender but not mushy. It is a nice bowl of goodness that will sure warm your tummy especially in these cool February days. I also ordered their calamari which is REALLY good, if there is one complaint I have about it is that the serving seems smaller than the usual serving I get from other restaurants BUT nevertheless - it was delicious! Thai Silk is a magnificent gem of a restaurant. I hosted a birthday gathering in August at my house. I strongly desired catering by Thai Silk, considering I frequently order by way of postmates. I popped in and prepared myself to order a day in advance (Saturday). The owner's wife offered to open the restaurant on their off day (Sunday) and deliver it on their way home so that my food would be fresh. I was astounded! The owner and his wife are lovely people, especially his wife, as I communicated with her most. I was so amazed by their hospitality that I ordered more than what I initially planned to have. Though I am not Thai and have yet to visit Thailand, Thai Silk is what I imagine home-cooked Thai food to be. I'm a massive fan of their yellow curry lunch special served with rice and a side salad. The curry is deep and flavorful; it's unlike any curry I've had before. Today, I switched it up and ordered the pepper and garlic chicken lunch special, and it was good. I've been here 4 years ago and it never disappoints. I would stop by for the chicken dinner plate or hot soup either seafood or coconut. They are one of the only restaurants in town that allowed in me with my bicycle. Fast forward to today, to my first time ordering online. We ordered pad see ew (spelling) and it was ok. Our favorite dishes were the Spicy Shrimp Coconut Soup and the spicy green beans with meat. The Chicken fried rice was yummy too but next time we'll be going with the shrimp fried rice. Although our meal was exceptional we had a problem. I made a mistake and asked my husband to pay at the door not realizing it was already pre-paid. Later that night I called after closing and the owner was able to not only fix the problem but when my husband showed up to pick up the money he offered him a ride home. I have 9years of kitchen and restaurant experience and can honestly say that I've never seen anyone go that far beyond expectations to make it right for their customers immediately. Completely lackluster Thai food. I don't understand how they achieved 4 stars on yelp. It's clear that the owners do not take joy in their food. The pad kee mao is pale white, lacking flavor, and had lettuce sprinkled in instead of the basil. The steak was cooked without skill: dry and chewy and no flavor. What a waste of calories and money. Came in here for a late lunch around 3 pm. Getting here was a little bit of a mess since I missed my exit and that inevitably led me to an added detour of 15 minutes. If I wasn't meeting a friend for lunch, I would have given up on coming here afterward. Google Maps sent me around the block thinking the location was in the back alley, so be careful it is in fact in front in the plaza near the El Pollo Loco. Parking was a breeze since there was plenty of space! The restaurant is on the smaller size, which made it a little hard to miss but once inside it was fine! Since we came at a weird time for lunch (3:45 pm) there was no one inside and we were able to get our food relatively quickly. I ordered the Red Chicken Curry extra hot with a side of rice. I personally love spicy food and although I ordered hot, I still scooped in an extra 6-7 scoops of their table chili sauce to add extra heat. The red curry was a little thinner than I would have liked however they were able to pack some pretty good flavors in it. I could taste the coconut milk inside and loved that I could still see some flakes sprinkled on top. I love eating the ginger cuts in a red curry and loved how they placed them on top of the dish almost like a garnish. The rice was a little dryer than I would have liked but after being dipped in the broth was not an issue. Overall, I would recommend this place if you are in the area and highly recommend being careful If you are using google maps to get here since I was extremely lost. read more

Talk about a hidden gem in Boyle Heights. An area that is dominated by birria, tacos, quesadillas, pozole, etc. and then there's Thai Silk Express. I've driven by here a million times on my way to the bank, Ramirez, or one of my favorite mariscos trucks that posts up right there on Soto next to the BofA parking lot, SHOUTOUT! I've always scoffed at the notion of getting Thai anywhere other than Thai Town in LA, but boy was I ever wrong. The first time I came I got a simple shrimp pad thai, and that was great. They didn't skimp on the shrimp or cheap out and use the tiny dehydrated shrimp like some places do to save money. The second time we got the "Tri Flavored" tilapia, papaya salad, and pad see eew. That salad and noodles were great, but the tilapia was above and beyond the best fried fish I have ever had. It was perfectly cooked, sweet, spicy, flaky. This is my neighborhood go to Thai place. I have been coming for over ten years. My go to dishes are the delicious Tom Yum Noodle Soup and the combination pad Thai. Both dishes are beautifully executed. The Tom yum noodle soul me has a delicious lime broth base which is balances out with the noodles and the crushed peanuts. This soup is perfect if you want something light or if you're feeling a little under the weather. Th pad Thai is not greasy or overly sauced like at other Thai establishments. I pair both up with a side of white or brown rice and a side of peanut sauce. Obviously staying away from carbs is not a big concern of mine. I ordered a larb salad and was given a really small plate that had no salad whatsoever anywhere just had the chicken on one side and some raw cabbage on the other side. Larb chicken had no Larb texture that is usual of larb..meaning they're was no heated/ground rice added. The whole plate only cabbage and chicken...disgusting and not well excuted.
