Flavors were inconsistent; uneven sauce allocation. Very limited meat...a couple pieces of chicken and shrimp. Definitely not restaurant quality. So we ordered for tom yum soup and it just was plain boiled water..next was spring rolls which did not have salt in it..we ordered for rice with tofu n veggies n green curry and 90% of the rice was only tofu and barely any veggie..then we ordered extra rice and it they said it would take them 15 mins but it took them 45 mins to get the food..when they finally got the fried rice all they had were bell peppers, no other veggies.. Secondly when the waitress who was serving food did not even take the effort to keep the food on the table was rudely just handing it over from behind us..Also, the place we got had no lighting at all.we could barely even read the menu.. I would normally have given them 3 stars but my experience this time warrants only 1 (met in the middle with two stars). I am so disappointed with the Orange Chicken Balls (lunch item I had delivered). DO NOT ORDER! Quite frankly, Thai Talay shouldn't make or sell these ever again. The balls of chicken taste old - as in SUPER dry, weird texture, really tough and you only get 6 small "balls" to an order (comes with curried rice which tastes okay). This is one off my all time favorite Thai restaurants. I am here at least once a week and am always willing to go when I'm not in the mood to cook. I go for the Duck Salad and the Treasure TT appetizer is just incredible. My girlfriend loves the Cashew Chicken and my recent try the Orange chicken was great. I probably could have eaten a couple more but didn't really need it. So good. As far as service go for the food and let them do their job. A quick hello and order your food. I went here once years ago and experienced slow service and subpar food so I avoided it since then. However, my parents kept talking it up and so I thought, "Maybe they've changed! I'll give it a second chance." Welllll, I once again experienced extremely slow service and average food. Although the restaurant was not very full, my dish came out a good 10 minutes after the rest of my party's, so by the time I began eating they were halfway done with the meal. I could honestly excuse that, since you never know what's happening in the kitchen, except they didn't even offer an apology or explanation while I just sat there with an empty plate in front of me. To be honest I wasn't too impressed. I put in an order for Pineapple chicken kabob and they called back to say they didn't have it. NO biggie, I ordered Dumplings instead. They were decent. We all ordered food and when it arrived we were missing an entire order. We called and they didn't seem concerned at all with the fact that we were missing food. They told us they could have it to us in 30 minutes. A few minutes later, the delivery guy called and said he'd be by in ten minutes with the food. We were happy about that. After getting off the phone we realized we had still been charged for the pineapple chicken that they didn't have- so we called back. I'm hoping the office got it settled, but nonetheless- we hit two major roadbumps and the person on the phone didn't respond to them as we'd hoped. This is a very nice looking place on the outside as well as the inside, there is parking in the front on the week days after 7pm there is six parking spaces in the rear, we enter the rear and was warmly greeted and led to our table, the place is kinda elegant inside from the table setting, real flowers on each table, the ceiling round lamps were dim, low soft music was playing made great ambiance, there is I only saw one TV over the bar, the place really got busy as time went on. A wonderful find! Thanks to my good friends who live in the area and suggested this place, I now have a wonderful go-to whether I'm near the airport or just craving some delicious Thai food. From the street, it's not too noticeable. But once I walked in, I was really impressed with the decor. Unlike many other Thai restaurants I've been to, this one has a modern, classy feel and the owners really seem to have put a lot of thought into the aesthetics of the place. There were a good number of people in for dinner on a Thursday night but it wasn't crowded by any means. We were seated right away and the service was very friendly throughout. Everything on the menu looked absolutely delicious so I had a hard time choosing. I noticed there were a couple of departures from the typical Thai menu but they featured classics like pad thai and curry as well. We started with the dumpling delight, which was a pretty small order of 6 teeny little guys.. they kind of reminded me of the microwave shu mai from Trader Joe's... which I happen to enjoy. I ended up getting the hot and spicy eggplant with shrimp for an extra $2. I absolutely loved it! The eggplant was slightly crispy and much more interesting in texture than most Thai eggplant dishes I've tried in the past. The shrimp was well cooked and as I guessed, it wasn't spicy at all. I also had a nibble of my friend's pad thai and very much enjoyed it as well. The waitstaff was on point in refilling our drinks and checking in on us. Prices went up, and portions went down. I was devastated! My beloved Thai Talay had completely revamped itself, and I wasn't sure what to expect. When I received my first delivery with the new menu, I was so disappointed in the portion size. It was not that the portions were that small, but because they used to be so BIG. When I started to eat my food I realized that the quality and taste of the food was better then it had ever been before. I instantly became a fan of the new Thai Talay. Thai Talay used to be a place I would order from strictly for delivery. With their new upscale menu, I had to give them a try in person and see what their restaurant was now like. I have been to Thai Talay twice so far, and both times I was impressed with the dining experience. This past Saturday when I went to Thai Talay I order the appetizer sampler, pepper garlic with chicken, and I shared the Surf and Turf Rice with my wife. Everything was excellent, and I can't say that I didn't like a single thing! I was initially really apprehensive of Thai Talay's new direction, but it turned out for the best. Unappetizing? Absolutely. But conversely, the perfect time for Thai Talay. When I'm tired, hungry, and the laziest bitch on the planet, I reach for the phone and call my favorite thai place. Yes, I have to repeat my address and order an inordinate number of times, and yes, it's not the fastest joint in town. But it's always, always good. Standouts include the Chicken Satay (with yummy peanut sauce my new-found peanut allergy doesn't allow me to have...Thanks, World!); Yellow Curry with Chicken; Pineapple Fried Rice; Beef Larb; and Wonton Soup. They never, and I mean never, screw up my order. Food is always hot and of high quality. Better yet, when what looks like a family planning dumpster answers the door, they don't recoil in horror and instead, treat me with a respect my diminshed state hardly deserves. The location is small, and offers a cozy feel. Prime location on the West side of Lincoln Blvd. amongst many other casual eateries. Street parking in front is very limited. To go orders are prompt, I called ahead to order and the food was ready upon my arrival. The flat noodles with beef, Thai fried rice with chicken and shrimp, and orange chicken are a few of my favorites. The marinade on the orange chicken is delicious! Prices are very reasonable ranging from $8-$14 per plate. I would highly recommend this place if you need a casual quick bite to eat or for ordering to go if you live in the area. I got Thai Talay to go recently, and it was okay. I then went back for a sit-down experience, and I think I am going to deduct it a half star. The menu is pretty big so I imagine some selections are good, some okay and some bad. We seemed to be getting more of the okay and bad though. We went because we got one of those mailer coupons for 50% off your 3rd dish (which will save you about $5). We started with the wonton soup and the sampler starter. The wonton soup was okay. The broth was a little sweet. The sampler included chicken satay (a little dry; served with peanut sauce), spring rolls (good), golden shrimps (okay), and dumplings (okay; wish they were a little more flavorful). For our entrees, we had the BBQ pork, which was basically charbroiled pork pieces. They were a little on the dry side (kind of tough). The pork was accompanied by a spicy sauce for dipping. The spicy sauce was just spicy and hot. It did not really have a distinct flavor profile though. We also had the orange chicken. The orange chicken came out looking like yakitori chicken meatballs covered in an orange glaze. It turns out that it was exactly that. The chicken meatballs were very dry. I love yakitori chicken meatballs, but they are usually juicy and very flavorful. These were just dry and really tasted processed (almost like they were frozen). We also had the Thai fried rice with beef, which I liked the best. Rice was nice and fresh. It was well seasoned with a good portion of beef. The dish included cherry tomatoes, eggs, onions, and green onions. For a place that had entrees under $20, they did take a lot of time and care into the presentation of the food. The service was also very good. Another plus is that Thai Talay has a nice modern look--with a comfortable, elegant dining room. I just wish the food was better. Maybe there are a few choices on the menu that are really good. If you can hone in on those, you may have a very pleasant experience here. I definitely don't recommend this place.. go to Ayara Thai which is about 10 minutes down on Manchester instead! The worse thing about this restaurant is that it's very expensive for Thai food - the seafood phad thai was $15 (!) and the portion was tiny (a little bigger than my fist, and I have small hands). The menu is very limited and they don't even offer a regular or cheaper phad thai. Phad thai should be no more than $9 maximum!! The noodles were very gummy and overcooked, and I could barely bite them because they were so chewy. They were also smothered in greasy sauce. If i'm going to pay $15 for phad thai, it had better be excellent. For that price I might as well go to CPK and get a pizza. My boyfriend ordered the tom yum soup, which he said was good. The bowl however was very small and it was $6 for a single portion- also too expensive. On a higher note, the restaurant is definitely on the nicer side with dim lighting and fancy silverware, dishes, and cups. The service was standard for an Asian restaurant: brisk, no frills, and somewhat rushed. Parking is not too bad: you can park on Lincoln or the parking lot between 83rd street and Lincoln (by Chicago for Ribs). I have noticed that the parking lot is very crowded on weekends so watch out for that. There are many restaurants in the street, I'd go somewhere else. Green curry is yummy but again, I can get the same thing at other Thai restaurant at $7-8, instead of $10. I was taking my brothers to LAX but wanted to get food first. So I yelped LAX and this was at the top. I didn't have time to read any reviews, and just decided to check this place out, thinking it would be kind of hole-in-the-wall-ish like other Thai places I've been to out here. We parked on the street and entered. Our first impression was swank-y. It's dark with blue lighting and plenty of handsome dark half-booths and dark tables. The lighting fixtures were pretty interesting to look at - more on that later. So we look at the menu and it's pretty limited, but the food sounds pretty good. One brother and I got tofu pad thai, and J got the seafood pad thai (the other bro just stuck with beer). There were two other groups seating - both of which looked like they could star on "The Hills." Yep, I got to spend an awkward dinner with my two brothers talking about the hot chicks at the tables near us. It also seemed like they make a lot of business doing take-out, since the front area seemed constantly busy. What I love about Thai restaurants is that the food doesn't take long to cook and therefore comes out pretty quickly. Regardless of only two other tables being filled, we waited so long that I can fully describe said lighting fixtures. And the waitress was no where to be seen the whole time. The food came and it was okay, though no better than any thai takeout that I've gotten in West LA. It was overly saucy, which we all noticed - making pad thai really heavy. Don't get me wrong - I like pad thai sauce but not when it's noodles swimming in sauce. We finally got the check and our pad thai was $10 and the seafood one $15. This is really steep for a simple noodle dish - I'm used to paying $6-7 for a much better version of the food. It was easy to order online, and the delivery driver came before the time that was expected. Here is the reason why I am giving it two stars...When I ordered online I said I put in my order that I would be paying in cash. The driver came and had parked in the leasing office's parking spot. I live in a really nice area that has 24 hour security, and security was telling him he had to move, he didn't. Then I asked him politely to move, it wasn't for a while until he listened, then moved to ANOTHER leasing parking spot (it's painted on the ground "leasing office" and on the walls..and unauthorized vehicles will be towed..and I have seen cars being towed). The security was getting upset at him, simply because there are cameras all around the complex and he told the delivery driver that his car could get towed if the office calls the towing company, and I didn't want him to get towed. My delivery driver had me sign the sheet, and then he walked off....literally said "thank you" and walked off.....I could've gotten a free meal, but I 1) didn't want him to get in trouble and 2) it's called morals, and I would never do that. I told him that I had typed online that I was "paying with cash"....he didn't have enough to break my $100. I then said, that's fine, I'll call the restaurant, I have a phone conference that I have to be on soon. So he got upset with the security because they asked him again to move his car. He drove OUT of the complex...and I wasn't sure if he was parking or not. I waited outside, and he came back. I told him I would go get my card, if he would just wait in the sitting area. I had to let the security know that it was okay, because they were frustrated with him. He then called the restaurant, I spoke with a woman, who I had asked if she wouldn't repeat my card out loud, because I didn't want anyone around to hear or take down my card number. This was my first time ordering with them. She asked if I wanted to leave a tip, I said no. Why didn't I leave a tip? the driver didn't listen to security after MULTIPLE times of them asking please don't park in the leasing office's spots, or even when I had asked as well, it's clearly marked. Not to mention, he just seemed rushed the whole time, and he was about to leave without verifying that I was paying in cash. The biggest reason I am not giving this 1 star but 2, is because I do feel for the delivery driver. He was nice to me, although he seemed stressed out and rushed. HOWEVER, it was because the woman who took down my card information HUNG UP on me after she asked me if I was going to leave a tip. That in itself is horrible customer service. You didn't ask me why I didn't leave a tip. I had spent 15 minutes making sure that security didn't kick him out of the premises, or the office calling the towing company to remove his car. You were rude on the phone, and I can understand that your computer wasn't working, and it was taking a bit, but you never once apologized for your behavior. Food: we ordered the pad seeu and the pad thai. It was kind of warm when I finally got it. Thai Talay has just re-opened after closing to remodel. I must say that the quality of the food has gone up 100%. It was good before, but way better now. the ambiance is so beautiful inside and they have a full bar and the service is out of this world. I noticed someone wrote a comment about how the server will put the napkin on your lap, which I think is a nice change from your typical bad service restaurants where you can not even get your servers attention. Not only is the Food amazing, the service is an A+. The owner is very sweet and cares to know that his customers are happy. I go here at least 3 times a week. It is a bit on the pricey side, but you get what you pay for. Lunch specials are served daily, so if you are on a budget I suggest going in and grabbing lunch during lunch special hours. I see all the tranny comments... which blows my mind because it shouldn't matter? She is at the other location further up on manchester which is more fast food. i am always a little wary about asian restaurants that are set in a very modern setting- it makes me feel like they'll put too much thought into the decor but not the food. NOT THE CASE HERE. the food was presented in a fabulous way, and while the portions are a little on the smaller size, most of the things we ordered was quite delish! the PAPAYA SALAD is fabulous- it is tangy, refreshing, and fresh, and the CHICKEN SATAY was also pretty tasty. be careful of the RED DEVIL NOODLES because it's rather on the spicy side, but if you're a fan like me, it won't bother you [the rice noodles are YUM]. the PANANG CURRY, TOM YUM SOUP, and SAUTEED GREEN BEANS are also commendable. the seem to use fresh veggies, which is fantastic, and the meats that they used in the dishes aren't overcooked. YES. wasn't a big fan of the BANGKOK BBQ CHICKEN though- i felt like it was just blah compared to the rest of the dishes, especially since the chicken lacked flavor, but at least it wasn't dry or overcooked. what i'm not a big fan of are the 'plastic' waitresses [mean girls reference, woohoo!]. one seemed to have a problem with me, because she kept on glaring [does my disapproving face really show that much??], but serves her right to have me glare when i saw the 3 waitresses taking wine shots with this old [and i mean OLD] man at the bar- leaving the only male server to run around helping the rest of the customers. i don't mind the short dresses or the excessive makeup [god knows i occasionally indulge and do that too] but i expect excellent service and appropriate behavior- not a page out of girls gone wild. read more

The green curry and the pad see ew were both very good. But the BBQ pork came lukewarm. It had been grilled some time ago and reheated, so that wasn't nearly quite as good as it could have been. I originally clicked 4-stars, but that was too generous for the luke warm bbq pork, so I docked them a star. Recently remodeled Thai Talay now has a more modern, loungey atmosphere that is very chill and pleasing. It's right around the corner from my work so a group of us tend to go every other week or so. Parking is usually easy too, either out front on Lincoln or the little parking lot in back. The service is always great and since we are regulars the waitresses all remember our favorite dishes and always crack jokes with us which is part of the charm. My favorite dish is the chicken panang, extra spicy! The red curry is also delicious. The lunch menu is very reasonable. Everything is very good and you can usually get out of there for around $10. For some reason it is always practically empty during lunch. Sometimes there are a few other groups there but we always feel like we have the place to ourselves. There is a bar and flat screen on one end of the restaurant that makes it seem like it would be a nice place to get some drinks in the evening although I've only really been here during the day. All in all Thai Talay has great food at a great price with great service and a great atmosphere. As one popular cereal mascot would say, They're Grrrrreat!! read more

Seriously the worst take-out experience EVER. We tried this place because it had 4 stars on Yelp but that's a major misrepresentation. We placed a small order online at 6:45 Sunday night (just rice and the appetizer sampler); I wanted to be sure it went through, so I called the restaurant. The man who answered said they were swamped and that our order would be ready in 30-40 min; longer than we were hoping, but OK. My husband got there at 7:30, giving them a full 45 min to get our food ready. He texted me a few minutes later saying the service was awful, and I suggested not tipping. At 7:45 he texted that he was still waiting. I suggested yelling at someone, he said, "there's no one here to yell at." Finally at 7:50 I had to CALL THE RESTAURANT and say, "My husband is standing at the front door waiting for our food and no one has greeted him." The woman put down the phone (no "please hold" or "just a moment") and I sat there for a few minutes before a man got on the line. I asked him why no one had given my husband our food or spoken to him at all, and he said they were really backed up. I asked why we were told our food would be ready in 30 minutes when it was actually one hour, and the man said, "I don't want to make excuses, we're just really backed up." I guess he gets points for candor. They finally gave my husband our food at 7:55 p.m., 1 hour and 10 minutes after we'd placed the order. He told me that he only saw 3 people working for a crowd of about 60 people inside; every customer was furious. While my husband was waiting at the front, a woman came up to the host and said, "I had to wait an hour for my food, so here's what I think I should pay." The guy was so backed up he couldn't even argue, just let the woman shortchange her bill. I understand that restaurants have bad nights -- maybe someone called in sick, there was a kitchen backup or they got more guests than anticipated. But instead of trying to appease everyone and offering completely crappy service, the staff could have turned people away at the door or given me an honest expectation of when to get our food. I will go back to a place with average food and awesome service before I'd go back to a place with great food and awful service. Came here for dinner on a Saturday night. A nice crowd inside. Not too packed or noisy. Very attentive staff. Parking is a pain though. You have to find street parking or residential. They have only a few spots in the rear. They had a delicious seafood pad Thai and chicken panang. Service for the food was a bit slow but they were attentive in refiling our drinks as we waited. Ambiance was very modern and intimate. Very dim lighting inside. One of the better thai food places in this area. Would come back again! read more

Thai Talay opened recently and far exceeded my expectations for a restaurant in the tiny LMU-Westchester community. I was pleasantly surprised when I got served the best Thai food I have had to date. No joke. Things are a tad on the pricey side compared to other student options, but the price definitely reflects the quality of service and food. I'm just worried the place is a little too nice for Westchester... Thai Talay is a place to take a date or to go for those once-a-month special occasions. read more

I loved everything about this restaurant. I couldn't have asked to wait any longer than 50 minutes for our food. In fact, they didn't even start making our food after 50 minutes. Fantastic service, so gracious to offer us free Thai tea because I went up to the front to ask my our food was taking SO LONG, but we declined. They are true warriors in the food service business, no doubt about it! When I asked why our food was taking too long, one of the waitress said everyone came in at the same time, but as I looked around causally, the restaurant was only half full. What an excuse. I don't by that BS, but I totally understand. How dare I ask where our food was! How rude of me. I was starving and the only thing I was seeing was all of the takeout orders being made and fulfilled. I understand. People from afar are more hungry than those in the restaurant. I will be back here again, but make sure I order "takeout" before I come into the restaurant. I will take my "takeout" order and sit down in their seats because apparently that's the fastest way to actually get food here. I love it! Such a unique and inviting place to be. 5 stars!! Though it was a total drag to be offered nothing for an erroneous gift certificate sold to us, and our having come all the way out on false pretenses, we accepted the circumstance (they will attest we were most gracious and friendly about it!) and decided to stay and eat dinner there on our own dime. Their marketing vendor, in their name, sold us a false gift certificate, which they would not honor.... because it was the vendor's fault. Sure, they may be within their "rights", but in terms of how you treat people, that doesn't make it right. If you can't fix it (though usually you CAN), you at least soften the blow for your loyal customers who have been shafted. But then they treated us like criminals for apparently complaining about it (nicely!). We waited for eternity to get served while several tables around us ate. It took finally getting the manager to move things. Then the waitress never came around to check on us. I still left a tip, though my wife was hitting my over the head not to. I'm helpless that way -- a server has to poop on my head before I would completely withhold a tip. And she never said why she was treating us that way. We're not going back though. That's enough for me. All a bad taste in our mouths. Was the food good? Hard to tell. The experience ruined it. This is not how a reputable restaurant acts. read more

This has to be one of the best Thai restaurants I have dined at in the West LA area. My friend and I decided to go here for dinner on a Friday night and were pleasantly surprised. Since we were located walking distance from the restaurant, I don't know about the parking situation but there seemed to be some street parking in the area. Upon arrival, we were greeted by the hostess who took us to our table. The atmosphere was dimly lit, and there was a upscale yet casual ambience. My friend and I decided to order the scallop lemongrass appetizer, chicken pad thai, and beef pad see ew dishes. The only dish I was not very impressed with was the scallop lemongrass dish because the portion was very small. The chicken pad thai was perfectly seasoned and not too spicy. The pad see ew dish gave generous amounts of beef so they definitely did not skimp out. Quality of the service was superb and we always had our water glasses filled. I will definitely be returning to Thai Talay in the near future to enjoy Thai food! read more

This is my first time giving 2 stars. I always have no idea how to give out 2 stars, but this time I know! All right, rude service is my first impression of this restaurant. I usually give bad service restaurant below 3-star because they do not deserve high rating! The environment is pretty good, and the food is okay! At least my cousin and his friends like it. I've been here twice now...how does that saying go? First time - shame on you. Second time - shame on me. Well then shame shame shame on me for allowing myself to go back here again after a failed first time. My family met me here on a Monday evening after I landed into LAX and we ordered up a storm - salmon in curry lime sauce, steamed sea bass, seafood pad thai, spicy basil with chicken and eggplant with chicken. We got stuck in a corner table next to a ridiculously noisy family. Am I turning into an ornery cat lady?? Maybe but come on!! When your child is screaming and running around like the restaurant is a giant play pen there's a problem. Not only that but the lights were flickering making me think every 5 minutes that I was either having a seizure or going blind. Service was ok - a little slow and our waitress managed to make her every move drip with irritation (I don't blame her though - I'd be irritated too if I had to work in a noisy, rave like light show). Suffices to say I was in the red before I even ate. Then the food came out. I was HUNGRY...so I'm not going to lie - I ate a lot but it wasn't one of those "This is so good. I need more!" It was a "Sigh. I'm empty. I need sustenance. This will do." The pad thai was sickeningly sweet - dripping in tamarindy fishy sauce. The spicy basil chicken and eggplant chicken came out cold. The salmon was overcooked and its curry lime sauce was just weird and I didn't even want to try the sea bass. I have a headache just writing this review as the memories of screaming children, a bad light show and cold, sub par food comes to mind. Do yourself a favor - trade in the pretty decor of Talay for a hole in the wall like Wirin Thai down Lincoln. It may not be purty but your belly will thank you. read more
