The duck salad and brussel sprout salad were excellently balanced, with a great balance of crunch, sweet, spicy, and sour. The textures were perfect. The tom yum was strongly tamarind flavored with sourness and a rich chili flavor. The tod mun pla (thai fish cake) were delicious and juicy with a great dipping sauce. I had wondered how this place could remain under 4 stars despite being in business for 15 years. When I finally visited, I definitely understood why. I came here on a Saturday because I wanted Thai food and this place had the outdoor seating listed on Yelp (I needed to sit outdoor because of my young child). When I arrived, it was raining, and the outdoor tables had no umbrellas. So I could only order carryout. I was surprised they had no paper carryout menus and was told I could take pictures of the menu or access it online. During the wait for the food, I finally noticed the umbrellas stored indoors instead of used on the tables outside. So I asked the staff if I wanted to sit outside, would it be possible to use the umbrellas? When I asked this question, the rain had slowed to a drizzle and I could understand if they refused which is why I asked them "if". But they refused by giving a pathetic excuse saying the wind would blow over the umbrellas. There was barely any wind and the wind speed in Gaithersburg overall at the time was 10mph. I could understand if they didn't want to get wet but such an obvious lie is insulting. When the food was ready, the rain finally stopped so I did get to sit outside and eat right away. The taste in each dish was pretty good, but the texture of the meat in all the dishes were DRY. I'm a pretty forgiving person when it comes to meat quality but this was too noticeable for me to ignore. Been coming in for years with an ex-office colleague. The portions are good and the lunch specials (~$11.99-12.99) can't be beat. Add in $4 to get an appetizer and a drink. Being a creature of habit, I usually get the Pad See Ew with pork. Some places overcook the pork, but Thai Tanium always gets it right for me. Don't know about their carryout or delivery, as I always eat at the location, but I can only speak for my in-dining experience. The dish wasn't anything special, but the portion was generous and it tasted pretty much like all the other Thai restaurants I've been to. I also wanted to participate in supporting a local establishment during Yelp's Big Night On Saturday, May 30th. I looked up The restaurant on Yelp and the REVIEwS were pretty good. I ordered Drunken Noodle, Chicken Spicy Fried rice, and Spring Rolls via the Yelp application. Their delivery service is through Grubhub. My drunken noodle were ok. They were spicy but were greasy. I've definitely had better Drunken Noodle . The spicy fried rice with chicken was very tasty. I would definitely recommend it if you like fried rice. It's also very filling. We were a group of 6 and when we enter it was empty at around 4 pm but later on it started to get full. The interior is rustic with some nice calm music in the background. For appetizer, I order the steam dumpling, chicken satay, and the fried calamari. The dumpling was an explosion of flavors and the chicken satay was very delicious with that sauce. The fried calamari was good but pale in flavor compare to the other two. For my main course I ordered the beef fried rice. It was a good portion size and the flavors was very good but to much onion slices in the dish. The waiter was very attentive to our need and came to refill our drinks throughout the meal. 11/23/21 My friend and I came for lunch today. I haven't been here in years. I used to come with my family before getting married and moving to another county. Fortunately, I work in Montgomery County close by. They have a lunch special menu Monday through Friday from 11:30-3pm. There are 12 options and you have a choice of meat: $9.95 for Chicken, pork, beef, tofu, or veggie or $12.95 Shrimp or Seafood. For an additional $3 you can make it lunch set which includes selected drinks and appetizers. I chose Thai Ice Tea, Veggie Roll, and Pad Thai. The food came out fairly quickly, but we were the first patrons there for dine-in. I prefer my tea to be sweeter. Veggie roll were fine, but a bit bland to me. When the Pad Thai came out I thought there was curry in it based on the color. I've never seen it that shade before. I have a sensitivity to strong odors and feel nauseous by the smell and taste of curry. Fortunately it was a false alarm. Pad Thai was really good. My friend and I shared an order of the Taro Custard for dessert. It was delish. I've never had it before and thought it was interesting to have fried onions as a topping. Service was fine. Our server could have stopped by to check on us more frequently. Fortunately we didn't need anything and could have flagged him easily since we were seated by the entrance. We also ordered a thai iced tea and an appetizer of veggie spring rolls (not featured in photos) which was an extra $4. You have 2 pieces of small rolls and the iced tea mixed together ($2 each). Also, which were delicious and reasonably priced. Everything was delicious and decently sized for a tasty lunch special. We went around 1:00 and the crowd was not too bad. This is honestly my family and I's favorite restaurant. We come here often enough that the servers know who we are and can anticipate our orders. The inside of the restaurant is quite lovely and is filled with wonderful decor. The staff is always extremely nice and attentive. The menu is filled with a ton of options so finding what you like should be no difficulty. They also offer a lunch deal with is quite win in my opinion because you can get a drink, an appetizer, and entree for $20 (if I recall correctly). I've been to Thai tanium many times in the most, but most recently on a Saturday night about 8:30. The restaurant was not too busy and we were seated immediately. I order the "special deal" which is a glass of wine or beer, appetizer, and entree for $20. I got the calamari and the pad see ew. The calamari was a little rubbery, but the breading was good. The pad see ew came out quickly and was very hot and very flavorful. I really enjoyed this dish here and even commented that it was better than I remembered. I've been ordering from Thai Tanium for 4 years now, and the food is always good. This time I made the mistake of order on Mother's Day. I made the online order, and was going to pick it up myself. The online order said it should be ready to pick up in 45 minutes. I show up around 50 minutes after placing my order, and I'm told it will be another 10 minutes. 20 minutes later I check in and they say it will be another 15 minutes. As I had plans of my own I said if it won't be ready, just cancel the order because I had plans to deal with. So the guy comes back and say they have only one dish to finish, and it won't be long. I get my order and take it home only to find out that half the order was missing. So thanks for ruining Mother's Day. Late dinner, and the guest of honor didn't even get their food. So lesson learned, never order on a day you think they're busy, because they aren't good under pressure. read more

Well in my last review I said when I come back to Thai Tanium I will definitely be getting the pumpkin curry..and you know I did. Okay I'm a gal who loves fall and everything pumpkin related so this was just so me. There was a good amount of pumpkin chunks balanced perfectly with some tofu and other vegetables. Boy has this restaurant gone downhill. My family has been enjoying Christmas Day meals there for the last 4-5 years. 10 of us on Christmas Day with a reservation show up and right around that same time the carryouts started to pick up, and the restaurant started to fill up. No one ever identified themselves as our waiter?? All the employees were just running around to different tables doing different things at different times. What a mess. Of the 10 of us seven were finally served our meals, at the same time is our appetizers. We kept having to track down someone to get refills on drinks. 3 people in the party never did get their meals. Worst experience ever. I guess we will have to look for a new restaurant to celebrate Christmas together next year. Such a huge letdown we have been going there for 15-20 years on a regular basis. I, surprisingly, have never had Thai food before. So when a friend of mine a d I decided to go out for lunch, why not take advantage and try something I've never had! This place is located in the kentlands near a few other shops and restaurants. Parking is ok. If you find one close by, be sure to check the time limits. When I walked in, it wasn't busy and I was greeted immediately. I told her I was waiting for a friend but she was able to seat me. When my friend arrived we were tended to pretty quickly. We took advantage of the lunch special, which included a drink, appetizer, and entree which was around $12. I ordered ice tea, spring rolls, and pad Thai. The spring rolls were light and delicious and I especially loved the pad Thai. Everything was pretty filling and I was able to take home some leftovers for dinner. My friend ordered the tom yum soup and panang curry with tofu, which she also really enjoyed. The overall ambiance was nice and warm. It's pretty small, but cozy. There was a small bar near the entrance as well, but I didn't try any of their drinks. The staff were really efficient and attentive. First time going to this restaurant in Kentlands. It is kind of hidden across from the Crepe place. Inside is decorative and inviting. Got seated in a booth. Ordered Papaya Salad, Minced Chicken Salad appetizer, Chicken Pad Thai, and Lemongrass Chicken. Liked everything except for the Lemongrass chicken since it had kind of an Indian Curry flavor to it. Not really like the usual Lemongrass Chicken I get at Vietnamese restaurants. But all of the other foods tasted delicious, especially since everything was extra spicy! 3rd time here. My wife and I always love our food. The last two times we've gotten the summer special soft shell crab in the spicy chili basil sauce and it is so delicious! Loved it so much we came again just to get it before it left the menu for the year. We always get shrimp pad Thai as that is one of my wife's favorite dishes in general and she really likes the pad Thai here. The DC metro has some of the best Thai restaurants so this dining experience at Thai Tanium was was shocking. On the "Specials" menu, I ordered the $19 CRISPY Pork Belly which should have been called HARD AS ROCK Pork Belly. You couldn't chew it. I sent it back. They replaced it with the Green Curry which was OK but not that great. My husband said the Tom Kha was OK as well. Not the best, but not horrible. He ordered Drunken Noodles and Chicken which was subpar and the chicken was dry. I ordered a $4 Diet Coke which finally arrived for the last 10 minutes of the meal. A staff was sweeping the floor all around us and others were running around cleaning the empty tables. We had no idea who our server was as three different people came to the table throughout the night. We decided to try this place instead of our current favorite, Siriwan Thai 4 Sectors in Germantown. I asked for extra spicy lime juice with my larb Gai and Brussel sprouts salad to go. They gave me 2 tablespoons in 2 separate dishes and charged me $3.00 for it. I did not use a spice tray or ask for anything else. Very poor customer relations. I am there at least once a week and always tip well.
