Had the pad Thai with shrimp and chicken delivered via Uber. The food was still warm when it arrived. The taste was okay, not the best but not the worst I've had either. I appreciate that they put the peanuts on the side and that the order arrived fairly quickly. My main issues would be that there were only 3 medium sized shrimps and that the noodles were starting to get soggy. (Not chewy enough) also the taste seemed a bit Americanized, compared to the pad Thais I had at other authentic Thai restaurants. I got it with a 75% off promo on Uber paired with a BOGO offer. Had really high expectation for this place after reading the 4 star reviews. Ordered takeout, but from the front, the restaurant had a very authentic Thai feel to it. It lives up to the Grand in the "Grand Thai room". They also have two self order machines at the front for take out orders. Service: the waiter at the front was friendly. Food: ordered the dinner for 2, which came with red Thai chicken curry, chicken pad Thai, two spring rolls, and an order of jasmin rice. Everything was ready after 10 minutes of order. The red Thai curry was nutty and had a good amount of chicken + vegetables in it. The chicken pad Thai was very sour and had limited ingredients. Most pad Thais I have had includes the basic rice noodles, meat, bean sprouts, and tofu. This one didn't had bean sprouts, lacking the crunch. And it's overly sour. Overall, I think this is an okay Thai place. Comparable to Thai express - a fast food chain. Atmosphere/Service: It was so cute inside and cozy inside. The lights were dim, and the tiling was on point the front area's for take out orders, and there were ample of seating areas at the back. Some tables for bigger groups, and some booths for more intimate occasions. The service was really good as the servers knew what they were doing and about what to recommend. Menu/food: I love Thai food and they definitely do it better than most places I've been to. They have the right amount go spiciness to their food with the right amount of sweetness. Also their curry pad Thai didn't have that weird curry powder after taste that most places have which is a bonus. Their coconut rice is TO DIE FOR SOOOOO good I ate one whole bowl with nothing on it. Came here for an early dinner after work. Boyfriend didn't eat all day and definitely ordered too much for two people. We got the platter to share ($20). The calamari was delicious, chips were super crispy. The fried tofu was my favorite with the peanut dip. Mmm. For our entree we got the grand signature pad Thai. The flavours were fantastic, it was piping hot. I'm glad it wasn't overcooked and soggy. The portion was great for the price. I ordered the Malay curry with chicken. Let me tell you, the amount of chicken, curry and eggplant/potatoes was incredible. It was like endless dish. Excellent food and fantastic service! We came here for a group family birthday lunch, and couldn't have been happier with the quality of food or service. Everybody loved their meal, and the kitchen was accommodating to those who required less spice/flavour (the kids). We really enjoyed the appetizer platters. The calamari was crispy and cooked to perfection, and the shrimp were so popular that I didn't even get a chance to try one! The curry Pad Thai had just the right amount of curry and flavour, and the mango chicken had a good amount of mango and veggies with the very flavourful and juicy chicken. I didn't hear any complaints at the table, and there was more than enough food to go around to make everybody full. The atmosphere is clean and warm, and service was really friendly. Our server, Simran, went out of her way to ensure that we were happy with our meals, and even gave us some free fried bananas with a candle to celebrate the birthday guest. Overall it was a great afternoon here. We will definitely be recommending this place to our friends, and will be visiting again very soon. TLDR: 3.5 stars. Nice space with good service. A safe if uninspiring choice for orphaned SpringRolls customers or eaters who are cautiously exploring this cuisine with moderate expectations. I was there in February largely on the majority vote of my dinner party - people who 20 years ago wouldn't have set foot in a humble Thai eatery because it was "too smelly" but now that everything is unscented they are encouraged. Anyway... A nice place, from the entrance it looks like a traditional formal dinning room. A closer look reveals some shortcuts - the dim light may be a little flattering to materials & finish - nevertheless I like dinning in low light with maroon & brown hues. We appreciated the booths with comfy padded bench seating. Service was the highlight. Reservations by phone were a breeze & a table ready immediately. Our main server was great - a stout young Middle Eastern or North African fellow who's skill & manner suggested his travels had seen him work much higher end restaurants or hotels. Grand Appetizer Platter: Enough for a sampler between 3 people. Shrimp skewers were OK with the sauce, Calamari a little flat but passable with the dip, the Tofu & Shrimp Chips had no taste. IMO quality didn't justify the $20 despite adequate size. Green Mango Salad: Pretty OK, didn't really pop but it was within the standard range. Red Onions were more prominent than usual - we were all "Onion people" and were OK with this version, but those who dislike raw Onions should skip it. Signature Pad Thai: Got a sample of this, didn't stand out but taste was within the acceptable standards except it didn't include sprouts or lime. But the portion was a little bigger than averag. Massaman Beef: To me this just didn't say Massaman, too sweet & light, like westernized Khao Soi with an identity crisis. Taken on its own terms, it was a very tasty sweet curry with tender Beef. I imagine it pleases most customers (though it's now gone from the online menu) Beef Phad KeeMao: Just like the other mains, it falls within expectations for the kind of "accessible" Thai food you get in most places. You could taste & smell some Basil, other herbs & chili were just enough to know it's there without risking to offend anyone. Portion was pretty good for one. I disappoint more easily than other people when it comes to Thai. The rest of my party was more satisfied than me (see intro). It may seem I went into this with a negative attitude, but that actually developed later. A couple of hours after diner I went to a friend's place for a Pay-Per-View party and one guy brought his dinner from nearby China Gourmet - BlackBean Beef on HoFan - I sat quietly frustrated by how much bolder the smell was from his cold, $10 takeout than any of the items from our meal. read more

We went here today for dinner to try this new thai restaurant. The interior is nice as well as the washroom although there was no toilet paper at that point. Service is attentive but I am giving one star because of our disappointment with the food. 1st Drinks: I got a green tea for $2.50 which is typical just hoping that I get a hot water and just not warm water. The Nestea for $3.00 just taste like water. Appetizer platter: The grilled shrimp with pineapple is ok. The calamari is the same as any thai restaurant you go to. Shrimp chips is nothing special. Tofu is ok but bland I wish it would be more crispier. The spring roll I am not a fan of. The sauces are satay sauce which is not peanuty enough for me. The 2 other sauces taste the same and too sweet. For $20 for the amount you get is good but not for the taste. Chicken Curry pad thai $15. with extra 5pcs shrimp $4.00: First of all it would be ok to charge as the extra $ for shrimp if we are told ahead of time but we ask the server if we can have chicken & shrimp and she said yes it's possible as signature curry pad thai but we weren't told it is extra. Shrimps are big size though so it would be okay if it is fresh but it doesn't smell fresh nor does it taste fresh. The curry is mild and you barely can taste it. It taste more like a coconut cream pad thai. Signature pineapple fried rice for $16.: I was expecting it served in the pineapple but it wasn't the case but that's fine at least it has pineapple in it. However, the rice taste kind of spoiled and seems like they just tried to cover it up. We tried a few spoons but ended up taking it out and throwing it afterwards. It would be better if they just let us know that they are sold out of rice than to give us a spoiled rice. Overall I wasn't happy with this place and not going back. read more

We substitute the rice with coconut rice and it was the best decision we ever made! I could eat the coconut rice even without any curry! Came to Thairoom Grand on a weeknight, as my fiancé was craving something spicy to eat. I've passed by this place numerous times and had bookmarked it to try it out one day. This restaurant is a lot bigger than it seems. There are plenty of booths inside for a nice cozy dinner or there is a spacious entrance in which you could wait for your takeout (even a couch to sit on!). The reason I am not giving a 5-star was the beginning of our dinner. We were greeted by a gentleman who told us to come into the dining room, then said wait no go back. We went back. Then called us to come inside, but then retracted and said no please wait. At that point I was a little confused, but went along with it. We finally sat down and decided what we could get and waited for someone to come see us.... I believe we waited about 15-20 minutes until I finally got up and went up to a waitress to ask to be seen. Believe me, I'm okay with waiting, but when I have someone starving in front of me...it is no longer fun. We finally had our lovely waitress come to us who apologized that she wasn't notified that we were even there. One of the downfalls of the booths I guess.. We ordered 2 appetizers: fried calamari and the fresh veggie rolls. For our mains: I ordered the red curry with Thai iced tea and fiancé ordered the Malay curry. Everything was actually quite good! My curry was nicely spiced, although I as usual added some chilli oil into it for an extra kick. His curry was quite spicy to begin with and was very good. He had his curry with shrimp and based on the evidence of discarded shrimp tails, they were generous with the amount of shrimp they put. The apps were quite good too, my only concern was with the rice paper for the veggie rolls. It almost felt as if the rolls were pre-made and refrigerated, so the paper was tough to chew. Or, it was just too much rice paper? Not sure. Regardless, they were filled nicely and I really liked the sauce. Would I come back? For sure. The food was great and the service, other than the hiccups at the start, was very good. We came out full and very happy. read more

This restaurant has tasty dishes and good food, however, I would only recommend for take out. The lack of customer service for indoor dining makes this place lose all of its charm. When we were seated, we had to wait a very long time (30 minutes) to be served by a waitress. They were not attentive and when it came time to pay the bill they would not honor the weekly special as their manager was out for the day, but we had confirmed when ordering if we could get the special deal (green curry 25% off). The khao soi is good minus the dish being only lukewarm. I personally hate my food being lukewarm. If I go out and eat, I want it to be hot especially on a cold night. The portion of it was meh. I could have ate everything in about 5 bites. Think of it like a pack of instant noodle size. If you're Asian you know it's not a lot. First thing I noticed was the venue is very nice. It seems out of place because its surrounded by fast-food chains and take out places so it is kind of hidden. It is great for a date, not much traffic on Sunday night. Service was good except for when our group of 5 asked for hot water as our beverage to start, the waiter transported the mugs with his hands touching the inside of the mug. Food is fine, portions are small, not authentic by any means but were ok tasting. Papaya salad had no papaya. My friends and I decided to check out this place because I got a takeout menu in my mailbox. The atmosphere was relaxing and comfortable. Food is well priced and service was great. My friend has kids and the staff were willing to help them put baby food in the microwave! I ordered the grand pad Thai with chicken and shrimp while my husband ordered the Malay curry with roti. The pad Thai was delicious and noodles were well cooked. The curry was very thick and their roti was actually crispy. It's been a while since I've come here, but it is a beautiful place when you enter into the restaurant. It looks small from the outside, but it is big when you enter in. I've been here a couple times at four usually when I'm very hungry. You have to try out the green curry vegetable dish, it's one of our favorites. It tastes really good especially on a cold winter day. The other pleasant one is the pad Thai, which we usually get us a vegetarian option. They do have chicken and other meats that you can try, But I really love the vegetarian option. We also started with the shrimp chips platter, it's a must try. I recently ordered from Thai Room Grand as a treat for my 5 year old niece and 11 year old nephew. I specifically requested one mild Chicken Fried Rice for a child (so not spicy at all) and 2 regular Chicken Fried Rice order. I requested just regular and not extra-spicy. We were very particular to say "mild for a little girl" to ensure that the rice would be mild for my niece to eat. When the order came, we saw 2 rice dishes with nothing written on the lid and one with Hot Spicy written. We proceeded to give the one marked spicy to my nephew as my niece was not ready to eat yet. When she was ready, I proceeded to open the other unmarked container and told my nephew to just try it before giving to his little sister (as I do not eat meat) . His face turned so RED that we made him stop eating immediately. I then called Thai Room Grand and spoke with a pleasant girl on the phone and she said a Manager would call me back. Shortly after, the Manager called me and said "what's the big deal - you try a spoon of one and then give the other one to the other child". He had absolutely no regard for the fact that my little niece did not have anything to eat as a treat. He said " I cannot give you any credit or extra item as you had a problem before". We did have a problem before because they did the same error months earlier. I told him that I am not looking for a credit for $15 rice order but instead want them to take some responsibility. I told him this was a MAJOR error but he did not offer any apology or even care. If my little 5 year old niece had eaten the spicy rice, what would have happened? I have been supporting Thai Room Grand since 2009 when it used to be Thai One On, and lately it has gone downhill. HORRIBLE service and the owner does not care about customers. I will NEVER order from them again. I would hate to think of the lack of care this place has now. Too bad - they lost a customer that has been supporting this place for more than 11 years! read more

I got a khao soi and coconut sticky rice with mango. The khao soi was very sweet for some reason but still alright overall. The sticky rice was a really big portion probably enough for 4 people to share. However it was really soggy, it was a step away from becoming congee! I expected that it wouldn't have been super chewy due to the residual heat of the takeout container but it should not be this bad...
