Lamb Curry
Debra M.

This is such delicious, authentic Indian food that a friend from India loves it as much as I do. The Onion Naan arrived still piping hot and smelled so amazing a squirrel attacked my food before I could retrieve it! Lol. Pic for fun. No matter, I devoured it anyway. My favorite Butter Chicken (Medium+ heat) was savory and delicious with tender chunks of chicken and spicy sauce. The sauce is rich and smooth and serves as a delicious dip for the naan. I also ordered the Lamb Curry and the oil floating on top was a little off-putting, but the flavor was still rich and warm. You get A LOT of rice with your order and leftover rice will make delicious fried rice in the coming days.

Paneer Makhani

WOW! Incredible food and service, Thaliwala is a must if you're looking for great Indian food! Every single dish that was ordered exceeded expectations. I tried the paneer makhani for the first time, following the recommendation from our waitress and loved every bite. It was rich, flavorful, and so filling. It's truly something I could eat almost daily! They gave us plenty of rice to share between the four different dishes we had and the Naan's were a great add on. You can choose different spice levels for each dish which is great but I recommend going a bit spicier and getting a Lassi to cool down in between bites! The Gulab Jamun was also a major hotdog dessert but all of them are worth trying! The restaurant itself is spacious and nicely done. I will absolutely be back for more!!

Chicken Momo (12 pcs)

Came here with a group excited for the thali, only to arrive learning that there's new management & they no longer offer it on the menu. We were all very bummed by this but we stayed and tried a bunch of other stuff still - momos, chicken 65, garlic naan & more. It was decent but nothing wow if you're familiar with Nepali food and quite a trek for those of us on the St Paul side. This place is a good option for those living nearby but imo, not worth the drive for those in the cities since other places do these same dishes. The servers were nice & it was very quiet so worked well for our mtg though.

If you find "typical" Indian food to be a mishmash of spices covering veggies or a protein in a casserole-style dish, head over to Thaliwala, which recently opened in a nondescript strip mall in Chanhassen. This sparkling clean, friendly restaurant offers traditional Indian fare, but their specialty is "Thali's," or plates. A plate is a large metal serving plate rimmed with metal bowls, each containing a small portion of chicken, lamb, or veggies seeped in delicious sauces, basmati or brown rice, and a variety of vegetables, lentils, a thick Indian soup. Each plate comes with papadums, but several types of nan are also available, as are the familiar samosas and momos, a meat or vegetable-filled dumpling. Dessert is Kheer, a sweet pudding made of rice, sugar, and condensed milk topped with freshly grated cardamom. There is also a variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. My take: Refreshingly different and delicious. I'm going back and hope to see you there.

Non veg Thali

Thaliwala is a hidden gem providing very authentic North Indian food in Chanhassen. Their management has changed recently, earlier this was a Nepali restaurant, now, while they have retained the 'momos', entire rest of the menu has been refreshed with a lot of options which you won't find elsewhere. The best thing is the staff and the Chef, who are extremely friendly and do ensure that you get a very pleasant experience along with good food. We tried Amritsari Chhole Kulcha and a non veg Thali. Both the items were very tasty and as per our spice palate. Non veg Thali had an appetizer, one chicken and one lamb dish along with dal and a dessert. They were very accommodating when I requested a few changes. Overall very good food, lot of options, reasonable pricing and excellent service. DON'T MISS this one !!

The owner and waitstaff are so very nice. The food was delicious and they give you a wide range of spice levels from mild to mild plus medium, medium plus, hot, super hot. Very reasonably priced and delicious. Large amount of choices on the menu and the restaurant was spotless clean.

The food is great. They seemed a little understaffed and it took longer than expected to get our order.

Expensive for what you get. The food was good. If I try it again, I'll try more spice.

It was my first time ordering from here but it will not be my last. From start to finish my dinner…read morewas five-star. First the Butter Chicken spicy was an omg-this-is-sooo-good mumble at first bite because the spice level was perfect, the chicken thighs succulent and meaty, and that sauce was a savory flavor bomb. I've always been a curry or tikki masala kind of chicken eater but this Butter Chicken blows those away. A must try. Good grief I'm salivating writing about it. The Garlic Naan was a perfect sauce-sopper for the Butter Chicken. I wish they offered pots of fresh chutneys with the naan, but that's ok. That's really minor. Lemon Rice sounded fresh and refreshing but holy spice, Batman! It was unexpectedly deliciously hot and had a deep lemon flavor. Cooked with whole roasted spices, slices of peppers and curry leaves this was a top favorite. Some of the whole spice things (not sure what they were tbh) were hard but most added a crunchy texture. The soups I had, Sweet Corn Soup and Hot & Sour Soup were home runs. Both had plenty of veggies and packed a spicy kick. The H&S soup was not like you'll get at Chinese or other Asian restaurants, but it was hot and not sour. It's just different but still so delicious. There are so many vegetarian dishes on the menu everyone should be able to eat well.

Such a bummer experience! I did a takeout order for two orders of butter chicken (which I had from…read moreKadai just last week and LOVED) and a sag paneer. Unfortunately I received two chicken tikka masala, not the butter chicken. Additionally there was no rice for the order. My husband called to let them know the order was not correct and Kadai said what we received WAS butter chicken-- apparently they use the same sauce for both butter chicken and tikka masala? Hmm. We'd had the butter chicken just last week so we know what that tastes like- it's super good! And we've had the chicken tikka from Kadai before (see my previous review) and it has a distinct taste that I don't personally prefer. Kadai was adamant that the only difference between the two is that chicken tikka has onions and bell pepper. Inconsistent experience and disappointing customer service.

After a long week, I was absolutely stoked to receive an invitation to dinner with my favorite…read morehost. Even better? We're going to my favorite Indian spot in the state. We started off with the vegetable platter, which features three delicious vegetarian appetizers. In addition to vegetable pakoras and samosas, there was bhajita, spinach and onion stuffed potato wedges. These came with delicious little cups of chutney--one mint and one tamarind. This appetizer was a hit, even for the most devoted carnivore in the party. We also tried the pashwari naan--it's a sweet naan that is filled with coconut and golden raisins. My mom in particular loved it. It would be a wonderful foil for a spicy curry. For our mains, mom ordered the kebab, which came with dal (we picked the golden lentil dal, and I might possibly have had "just a taste" several times. (Verdict: it's yummy!) I ordered the paneer chili balti, a comforting balti that is sweet, savory, and salty with warming spices. The rice was also exactly right--fluffy, perfectly salted, and just the right texture. We also got the mango chutney, which is a tart, sweet, salty, savory, amazing flavor bomb. Try it at least once. For dessert, we shared the kulfee and ras malai. These aren't on the menu at every Indian restaurant, and since first having tried them (at India Palace, in fact), I know that they'll always be my first choice when I see them, especially the kulfee. Holy wow. As usual, the service was great--friendly, attentive, prompt, and helpful, the staff here makes sure you get what you need. Despite the fairly full house, it was easy to have a conversation. This is a relaxing place to enjoy a meal. The music is quiet, the decor interesting, and the seating comfortable. All in all, the cure for a bad week!
