We love it here! One of our go to spots for lunch. They have an excellent menu for lunch that includes your choice of meat with rice & side. The service is always friendly & fast. Great experience! Met up with a friend for dinner on a week night and we were seated right away. They had a ton of cuisine options - from Thai, to Chinese, to Korean, to Vietnamese. I was a little skeptical and thought, no way could any of this be really good, since it' was such a wide range of Asian cuisines . Well, I went with Chinese and was not disappointed. The Hunan Beef had a nice brown sauce with fresh vegetables. I got the combination so it came with a heaping portion of chicken fried rice and I chose an egg roll. The egg roll was SO GOOD, definitely Vietnamese style. Everything was delicious and the portions sizes were fantastic for the price. Our server was attentive and we never went without water. We were also those annoying people who took forever to look at the menu and order, but the server came back twice and was kind about it. Thanh Vi is in Brooklyn Park's hot spot for Vietnamese food, meaning there are a handful of amazing Vietnamese restaurants in the area. That being said, Thanh Vi has amazing pho. What I noticed that makes their pho a bit different from the others, is that their beef bone broth contains some floating droplets of beef oil (from the process of boiling/simmering the beef bones). Some people may be deterred from this, but I love my droplets of beef oil because it adds another level to the broth, although it is subtle. Their wings are also really good. The plain ones are breaded, so it contains a nice crisp. Their oyster wings are also good, being covered in a dark sweet, salty, and umami oyster sauce. Definitely a go-to starter for me. A guilty pleasure of mine are cream cheese wontons, and Thanh Vi's are AMAZING! You know the usual cream cheese wontons where the fried wrappers are a bit thick and hard, and require a bit more jaw muscle? You won't have that here. Thanv Vi's wonton wrappers are paper thin. When you bite the cream cheese wontons, they are so thin and flaky, it easily breaks apart in your mouth. This may be the best cream cheese wontons I've had. However, one thing I noticed was the dishes weren't that bad or only Americanized. I only ordered one but the presentation and taste of the other dishes that my family ordered were fairly good and cheap too Ordered - Dry Egg Noodles (4.5/5). This was very good. The noodles were al dente, the meat broth was average, and there were lots of cuts of meats to diversify the taste buds. The soup that came with the noodles was refreshing. This place was on my "must try" list and I had a chance to stop by. The place is in a proverbial strip mall just past Festival Foods off 85th and 252 in Brooklyn Park. There is ample parking, and the place is spacious and clean, with nice ambiance. There are TV's on the walls, but not too loud and appropriate for conversation. Upon arrival the host was cordial and motioned for me to take a seat. They seated me at a table, of which on second glance I noticed a tupperware of spring rolls and a glass of water to the side. The waiter was embarrassed and offered me a booth by the window, which had a rag sitting on the table. I reluctantly obliged and he hurriedly finished cleaning up the table, and fished what looked like a used spoon from the sauce tray. Ok so first impressions weren't so good for these guys. They had clean tables all ready to go, and managed to seat me at a dirty one and a half cleaned one in one fell swoop. OMG. I looked over the menu quickly. With a name like Thanh Vi, I don't understand why these places insist on serving fake Chinese food. It is clearly a Vietnamese restaurant, yet all of their lunch specials, and the specials on the board by the front counter were all Chinese offerings. The more perplexing thing was that I looked around the restaurant and it was 80% Asian!! I ordered my usual Bun Bo Hue (spicy pork noodle soup). It arrived looking great, with all the nice stewed meats that I expected. The meat all tasted great. However the broth was something else. It tasted very watered down. I had to seriously "fix" it. And there was too much of it compared to the amount of food there was in the dish. There were definitely not enough noodles either. I wondered what would happen if they did not water down the broth, but just served less of it per bowl? There was more than a cup of broth left after I was done. That's not a good sign as I usually drink ALL the broth at great Pho places. Overall with the meh food and the customer service problem they got 3 stars. Pretty good as far as local Vietnamese restaurants go. It depends on what you order though. The Bun Bo Hue was bland and didn't have the depth you would want or expect with the dish. If you're a beginner being introduced to this dish and you don't like spicy food, go ahead and order this from here, but it's not for me. The broken rice (Com Tam) was actually really good and is our primary order here. We've gotten it a few times and on average it turned out really well. This is also one of the few places that serve the pork meatloaf wrapped in fried soy paper which is my favorite. The seafood stir fry noodles were ok. It's not personally my favorite but it's good while it's fresh and the portion size was nice and generous. Expect this place to be super busy in rainy or chilly days, so order Togo if you can, or expect to have a short wait. However it's definitely our go to local Vietnamese restaurant when we're craving it! read more

Clean restaurant with ample seating from booths to tables. Great for large groups as well. My favorite and go-to appetizers would have to be the egg rolls and spring rolls. The egg rolls are huge and crispy (yass!) and the spring rolls are fresh when served. I don't come here very often because I'm not a fan of the service, which is always slow, and the pho is just okay. If I'm being honest here, the broth actually tastes way better by itself without all the works added in. However, i can never eat my pho plain and always have to add in the sauces to spice it up. Than Vi has an extensive menu with other options for you to choose from. The bun mi sandwiches are pretty point as well as their lo mein dishes. Overall, this place is not terrible. Thanh Vi! When I go to a Vietnamese restaurant there's a few regular things that I look for; spring rolls, egg rolls, banh mi and Pho. Let's just say that if Thanh Vi is a lady, and spring rolls if her face, egg rolls is her body, banh mi is her style of clothing and pho is her mind then she would have the whole package. Atmosphere: The restaurant is very clean as well as the bathroom. The staff are very nice and helpful. Food: Spring rolls- What really makes these spring roll stand out from others is the mint leaves inside these "beauty" ;). It has a refreshing spice when biting into one. Furthermore, the spring roll sauce goes very well with the spring roll. I like adding sriracha sauce with the spring roll sauce to add a little heat. It compliment each other very well: sweet, spicy and minty. Egg rolls- One of the best egg rolls out there. These egg rolls are very "thick" and "meaty" ;) with a very crispy wrap. They serve it was a chili fish sauce which in my opinion is the best kind of sauce for egg rolls (not sweet and sour sauce). Banh Mi- Others like to "dress" ;) up there Banh Mi, but I like mine simple. Grilled meat, pickled carrot and radish with amazing mayo like sauce with cilantro all wrapped up in a crispy yet fluffy bread. Pho- This pho will blow your "mind" ;)! Very light and clean broth, not too beefy and right amount of spice. Serve with a big rectangular tendon, think slices of beef and meatballs. It's pretty darn good! This place is always my go to for pho in the Hennepin area (I almost think they have the best pho in the area). I always crave for their pho! When I order the combination pho, I always ask for extra tendon in the pho and ask for the raw beef on the side so I can put it in the hot broth once the pho gets to the table. Game changer if you've never tried putting the beef in the pho after! Their spring rolls are good, but sometimes I think they put too much shredded lettuce in it. The egg rolls are always a hit! Their special egg rolls which they have sometimes are also delicious (has shrimp inside). Their bun bo hue is ok. Good but nothing memorable. Banh mi's are decently good as well, but sometimes the bread is too hard or they don't add enough meat (hit or miss). We always order chicken wings too which are much better than Mandarin Restaurant down the street on 85th. Now, the only reason why I didn't rate this place 5 stars is because of the waiters/service. Hit or miss with water refills and sometimes, you'll have to chase them down for additional things. Also, I feel like they give better service to everyone else but Asians. Maybe I can't speak to all Asians as a whole, but I can vouch from experience and speak to the one experience that I'll never forget. I've been here more times than I can count in the last 5-8 years. Once, I took one of my Caucasian friends here and I was in complete awe at the change of the waitress' attitude. The waitress works there often so we have worked with her several times. It was kind of odd how she started acting SUPER nice, was asking about our day and making small talk, refilling our water and consistently making sure we were enjoying our food. She has never done that in the past. Normally, it's just a "hello, do you know what you want to order?" and then they get you the food and leave as fast as they can. I came home and told my spouse how differently the same waiter treated us vs how she treated me when I was with my Caucasian friend. I was shook. Maybe whoever is reading this probably thinks this is ridiculous, but trust me, you'll have to be in my shoes to understand!!! When you know, you know. Anyway, service is still the same there. In and out kinda service, but I still come for the pho because their broth is one of the best in the Hennepin area. Oh, and it's also cleaner than other Asian restaurants! Ive never realized that there are quite a handful of decent Vietnamese places in Brooklyn Park, and Thanh Vi is also one of them. I was searching online for a Vietnamese places that offer Banh Mi Bo Kho (Spiced beef stew with French baguette), and I saw that Thanh Vi offers this dish. I then decided to go there and give this place a try. I went there on a late Sunday afternoon. The place as not packed, so the service was nice and prompt. The decor inside looked decent, new, and clean. They also had a big flat screen TV on one side of restaurant wall. The menu offers about 50% Chinese and 50% Vietnamese dishes. I only ordered the Vietnamese dishes, so I cant say how their Chinese dishes are. They also offer lunch special with mainly basic Chinese dishes for only 5.25. For my meal, I ordered grilled pork spring rolls to start and Banh Mi Bo Kho as my main. An order of spring roll came with two decent size rolls. For only 3.75, I thought it was a pretty good value for the money. The dipping sauce was really nice. I think it was a hoisin-sauce mixed with vinegar, sugar, and some other seasonings. The other surprise ingredient that I liked a lot was the shredded pickle carrots and daikons that they put in the rolls. I dont eat Vietnamese spring rolls that often, and I thought their rolls were great. Banh Mi Bo Kho came in a medium-size bowl, and was served with a whole medium size French bread. This meal was incredibly cheap for the money (only 3.75), and it tasted great. There were probably 4-5 nice chunks of beef with several chunks of carrots, onion, cilantro, and basil on top. The French bread was nice and warm with slightly crispy crust and soft white bread inside. The only down side to this meal was that the onion and carrot chunks were still kind of raw. I would have enjoyed this dish a lot more if both onion and carrot were cooked through. Overall, everything tasted great and it was amazing value. I'll be back to try something else. read more

Came here to check out the egg rolls since I needed to order some for my son's birthday party which fell on a Sunday and my favorite egg roll place (Que Viet) didn't open until 4 pm. The egg rolls here are very similar to Que Viet so we ended up ordering here for the party. Many family members said they preferred Thanh Vi egg rolls. They don't do party size orders but the owner did give me a discount for the big order so that was nice. We ended up eating lunch here too. In my continued quest to check out the Asian eateries in my neck of the woods, I decided to try Thanh Vi to satisfy my craving for spring rolls. (*Sidebar: Not having something for a while and then indulging leads to a kick of wanting it for like a week straight - I had spring rolls just three days ago after months. This happens with sushi frequently) Thanh Vi is located in a strip mall that seems a bit out of place, but then again, when doesn't a strip mall seem out of place. You can't miss it - it's the most prominent of all the businesses in the establishment situated in the coveted, larger corner site. The cuisine they offer is Chinese and Vietnamese. A good decision by the owners because had they been strictly Vietnamese, Thanh Vi may not survive for long in the neighborhood it resides in. The place is very clean and spacious. The girl manning the front desk/check out counter was a little over the top friendly - innocent enough. Their menu is pretty extensive and has a good selection - more Vietnamese than Chinese, as it should be. I was thrilled to see bahn mi being offered (5 varieties) - I was definitely going to get one of those for later. Not all Vietnamese restaurants sell these well known sandwiches, usually more of a deli offering. Along with a bahn mi, I ordered a vermicelli salad with grilled pork and fried egg rolls as well as, of course, spring rolls (the main reason I came to this place). The total for my take out order came to just over $14, not bad - another reason I love Vietnamese food, so affordable! It took a total of 20 minutes to complete my order and 10 minutes into waiting I was told by the cashier that took my order that they ran out of bahn mis. This was disappointing to say the least and made me think that they weren't made onsite, more likely deli made and delivered - why else would it have taken them 10 minutes to realize they had no more to sell? I was asked to order something else within the same price range, which limited me to appetizers - ordered grilled pork spring rolls. The rice paper wrappers on the regular spring rolls were a bit soggy and soft - either they were let soaking for too long while assembling or the rolls were stored in too damp of conditions after being made. The grilled pork version was perfect. The dipping sauce was a hoisin/oyster sauce type of sauce, making for a very dark, sweet and salty concoction. Usually it's either a peanut or fish sauce variety and I've been known to add hoisin to the peanut kind, but having hoisin be the base of the sauce was new for me. The vermicelli salad was YUMMY and way more than enough for one person - good value at $6.95. They where careful to separate out the lettuce and veggies in a separate compartment away from the noodles and meat, which helps avoid wilting and keeps things crisp. I noticed the noodles were a little thicker than what you normally see for this kind of dish - I liked it. The thicker noodles stood up to the fish sauce dressing a lot better - by the time you get to the end, the noodles aren't completely saturated and falling apart. As mentioned, you get the traditional fish sauce dressing and the same hoisin/oyster sauce based sauce you get with the spring rolls for added flavor to the noodle salad. Next time I go back, I'm for sure getting some pho or the bun bo heu - been years since I've had bun bo hue. read more

I went here recently and found out they charged you a service tip of %15 ($7.xx) automatically now. I would had understood if it was for a party of 4+ (for any amount of automatically service tip charge) but it was just me and my significant other and we weren't there long. I will no longer come here if this continues but basically a service tip is a "tip" at the end of the day and giving out "tips" is earned and not something people have to give. It is a choice if people want to tip or not. Pay your employees more and stop counting on "tips" to pay your employees. %15 charge of service tip is a lot for 2 person. Very disappointed in Thanh Vi. The only good thing about my experience was that this time around our server was actually very good at serving us. I would had tipped but I got charged automatically so I didn't tipped on the paper bill. I want to be given the choice to tip or not. Definitely will not be returning. read more

I came here after finding out that My Huang (craving their coffee) closes at 6 PM on Sundays. I've only been here once before and i don't remember if was good or not. Upon entrance I did notice it is cleaner than the standard Vietnamese restaurants around town. (side note, has anyone else noticed that Asian restaurants are starting to become cleaner?) Kim Anh was closed and we didn't feel like going to Mandarin. I opened the menu and did get a sticker shock, Pho was pushing $8 a bowl and some even more. But here is the food breakdown: Wife: Walnut shrimp, this is a traditional Chinese dish, the batter was too think. I think it is supposed to be light and crispy with the tangy (secrets out!) Miracle Whip based sauce. This was heavy and too sweet and the walnuts look over fried displaying an unpleasant color. C- Tricolor - This was too sweet and was served with ice cubes. To anyone reading this that serves tricolor desert drink, PLEASE serve with crushed ice, trying to navigate large pieces of ice to get the good bits of beans and tapioca is rough (First world probs). C- Me: Crispy chicken with tomato fried rice. The chicken was tender and was actually quite crispy. I enjoyed the sweetened soy that accompanied it a well as crisp lettuce and fresh tomatoes. The tomato fried rice didn't really have a distinct tomato flavor and taken on a reddish hue, maybe the cooked it with ketchup. C+ Nieces: Beef and Potato, this was solid, thinly sliced and crispy potatoes (like chips) stir fried with beef. Simplicity at its best. Balanced flavors with the crisp texture of the chips. Comparable to Que Viet. B+ Service: It was aight! I think there was only one waitress there and she was running at full steam, she didn't really visit our table much but did deliver our food promptly, can't really complain. C Final Word: I'll go back because I live close by. I will still have to have try their pho and compare it against Kim Anh and Manarin. What i would definitely order again is their Beef and potato and maybe their crispy chicken. no to the shrimp and tricolor. This was my first experience with oily pho broth, so unfortunately, this place is at the bottom of my list for pho places (with Pho 79 being my go-to at the top of the list). I'm attaching a photo of my broth after I ate all of it (I'm Vietnamese, so I'll finish any bowl of pho you put in front of me, good or not!)- you can see goblets of the oil along the perimeter. It was also a pretty bland broth- I sipped a taste before adding condiments and toppings because I was curious and it tasted really flavorless and watery.
