Got the pastrami sandwich on a hoagie with spicy mustard and provolone and honestly... it slapped. The pastrami had legit flavor and didn't taste like sad deli meat, the spicy mustard actually had a kick, and the provolone melted in a way that made it feel like an actual sandwich and not just meat shoved in bread. Also the hoagie roll deserves credit because it held up and didn't turn into a soggy disaster halfway through. If you like pastrami and you like bold flavors, this is a solid order. Bread was soft with a good chew, not too crusty but held up under the weight of all the fillings. The #17 had a ton of meat--stacked heavy with salami and capicola, a nice salty bite but didn't feel greasy. Garlic mayo hit right away, super creamy and full of flavor, almost too much but not quite. The Italian dressing soaked in just enough to give a tang without making it soggy. Lettuce was crisp, tomatoes were fine, onions gave just enough edge. The Hill salad was big, definitely more filling than expected. Tuna salad wasn't watery, had a decent amount of flavor, didn't overpower everything else. Avocado spread gave it a nice creamy texture. Cucumber and tomato were fresh. Almonds on top were weirdly perfect, added crunch without feeling out of place. Service was fast, super friendly. Place is clean, chill vibe, nothing fancy but they care. A little pricey for a sandwich, but it's clear they use good stuff. Would go again, maybe try the Chicago dog next time. read more

Craving a taste of Chicago? Don't pass up "That Place" although you might do so inadvertently as it's in a little nondescript strip mall. There are daily lunch specials and they also have Chicago style Vienna brand hotdogs, but I had come for one of their famous "samiches" and it was fun reading the menu since the selections are named after famous gangsters like Capone, Gambino, Gambino, etc., but the choices were hard. I finally decided on #17 The Costello (ham, mortadella, capicola, Genoa salami, pepperoni, provolone, lettuch, tomato, onions, cramy garlic mayo and Italian dressing) Capo size rather than the smaller Crew size. While I waiting, I looked over the pics of some famous gangsters and watched my samich being made. I enjoyed talking to the new owner Kim and her crew, and then settled downinside (some seating, including a table and umbrella is available outside) in front of the neatly wrapped for ease of holding it masterpiece samich and aunique soda. It's been a long time since I had such quality meats, especially my long awaited mortadella! I took 1/2 home for later. The bread is a softer style than I usually prefer, but it was so fresh and perfect for the amount of filling since it would squish down enough to actually bite without effort. The Capone, The Gambino, The Lanky........They offer most of your usual subs or hoagies, ten kinds of salads, Italian beef and more. You order at the counter, pay, and either take out or seat yourself against the wall decorated with gangster photos. They also have two small tables outside. Soft beverages are offered. I tried an Italian Beef with added giardiniera. The beef was tender and tasty. The au jus was also very good. The giardiniera was very spicy but also tasty. The roll is that Arizona Type soft squishy bread. Other choices for bread are wheat, marble rye, spinach tortilla, and lettuce wrap. My husband tried a Castello (ham, mortadella, capicola, Genoa salami, pepperoni, provolone, lettuce, tomato, onion, garlic mayo (left off at my husband's request), Italian dressing. I ordered the #3, The Genovese. Filled with salami, ham, pepperoni, provolone, lettuce, tomato, and a garlic mayo. I got mine "mobbed" which adds on Italian vinaigrette and pepperoncinis. This sandwich was amazing. The meats were too quality and you could taste each one, the vinaigrette and the mayo were sweet to cut through the fattier meats. Bread was fresh to tie it together. The wife got the #16, The Castellano, a pastrami sandwich she opted for spicy mustard. They did simple right. I couldn't not order a Chicago Dog! The dog was all you could ask from a Chi Dog. Big beefy frank, crunchy pickle spear, tomatoe, pepperoncinis, onions, relish, celery salt, all on that iconic poppy seed bun! This was a treat. We ordered two Italian Beef sandwiches and 2 lemon blueberry cheesecakes for carry-out. The sandwiches were all bun and little beef. They tasted like a box of salt was put on them. Horrible taste!! You guys... this place is the BOMB! It's so freaking good, I could cry. I'm not the biggest fan of subs but when I have a craving, I want to satisfy it. I got the #8 Moran last Friday (and then again today, haha) and my husband got the #18 I believe. I also got a Chicago dog (which I ate before I got home, so no pic) and pasta salad. Everything was just delicious. The service is outstanding; both times that I have been in, the employees were super friendly and it was FAST, like I'm talking less than five minutes from ordering, paying to walking out the door with my food. You can add double meat to your sandwiches with an extra $2. I got a The Moran which is roast bee, trukey breast, provolone, lettuce, tomato and I replace the garlic mayo with honey mustard and was able to add cucumbers and black olives for free. This cost me $9.26. Service was patient and convivial. There's no tables inside; it's just a long countertop. There's two small tables outside that each seat 2, so not exactly an ideal place for 4 or more people. The sandwich itself was above average; it was somewhat lobsided with all the meat being on one end of the sandwich and the vegetables on the other side.
