Meh.. I really don't get what all the fuss is about. The service was average, the food mediocre at best.. And the ambience was non existent. Free bread though, which is a plus. The tables are cramped together.. Right next to a very busy little road full of pedestrians and cars.. The risotto tasted like it was soaked in butter. But there was a lot of mushrooms in it. The pasta we ordered was alright... But we have had better elsewhere. All in all.. I most likely wouldn't eat here again and would say that That's Amore is definitely overrated. read more

Come on, this place is named "That's Amore". Ummm, tourist trap much? Despite my instincts, I decided to venture to That's Amore for lunch and it was a huge disappointment. People rave about the beautiful bowls of pasta in Rome. They tell tales about the heavenly strands of pasta and the divine sauces that will forever change your life. Perhaps it is better for me that I left, life unaltered. We ordered the carbonara and the meat lasagna. Both dishes were quite possibly --- AVERAGE, albeit both were quite heavily salted. This is definitely nothing amazing to stop for, and if anything, most likely a HUGE tourist trap. I mean, they do offer free WIFI. The best meal we had while in Italy! It is the cutest little corner restaurant in the central shopping area of Rome. You should definitely make a reservation or take the risk and get in like we did; our table was small and right next to the front door. Despite the negative reviews, we really had a very good time here, and I would not call us traditional "tourists" who are fooled easily. We came by before a show at the theatre nearby, without a reservation, and were quickly offered great seating at the bar. We were served quickly and the service overall was fantastic. Caprese salad was great, truffle pasta was nom, the gnocchi was "little pillows of happiness", and everything came at a reasonable price. The desserts looked great, but as is common with every meal I had in Rome, I was way too full to even think about eating anything else. If you are visiting Rome for the first time and looking for an overall pleasant dining experience, this is a great stop. read more

Very nice service. We called before to set a reservation for the same day. When we arrived we were quickly seated and even though the place was very cozy the people were nice and attentive. They had the windows open to allow the nice cool air in but it also let in flies. That didn't really bug me. (play on words) The food was good and the service was fast. They are a bit of a smaller restaurant and it seems like reservations are strongly recommended but my family of 5 got lucky and got there as another party of 5 was paying their bill. The service was exceptional. When we got there we were the sixth party in line to be seated with a few other parties behind us. I thought for sure we'd be waiting for a while but no longer than a minute after one party left the host would call the next party in line. We were seated towards the back of the restaurant which was a bit warm but there was a fan right above us. When the server came to take our order he used some sort of electronic tablet. We asked the server for suggestions and gave us a few options which was very helpful. Literally not even a minute after he walked away another server arrived with our drinks. Our appetizer arrived under 10 minutes after ordering. When we were finished our plates were immediately bussed and we were brought a new set of silverware. The servers and bussers were all very attentive; they all worked together as a team and were very efficient. We were very impressed with the service. Came here because of hotel concierge recommendations and Yelp reviews. Came in a group of two during busy dinner time. No reservation was needed which was nice. Space was very tight. We ordered one pizza and one pasta dish. Pasta was fettuccine with mushrooms. Pizza was the one that has egg, olives, artichoke, prosciutto. Pasta was decent. Portion is on the smaller side compared to other restaurants i visited on this trip, but still decent for one person. Pizza was made very haphazardly. The toppings were just thrown on there in different regions of the pizza which I think sort of defeats the purpose of having a pizza with multiple toppings. Eggs were slices harboiled eggs. Wish it were egg(s) cracked directly onto pizza. Taste was ok. Service is that part that wasn't the most impressive. We weren't offered bread. Can't say I felt like they cared. I would consider this as a quick stop for ok food. Not as excellent as most reviews claim. read more

When I am traveling, I never, ever eat at the same restaurant twice. There are just too many new places to try for me to waste an opportunity on a place I've already been. With the exception of That's Amore. The guy and I ate here three times. Back. To. Back. To. Back. The food is amazing. Obviously. The restaurant is a short walk from the Trevi Fountain and takes residence in a really cute, corner space. There are white table cloths, but the overall feel of the restaurant is casual and cozy. There's a guy up front who handles the reservations and walk up customers. He is nice and friendly. He even passes out free glasses of wine to customers who are waiting outside. I love it when people are friendly - especially in Europe! Our first dinner there, we order the bruschetta, Fettuccine Alfredo, Peposo alla Fiorentina (braised beef), and homemade apple strudel. OH. MY. GOD. Pretty much everything was the best we've ever had. The bruschetta was ridiculous. The tomatoes were plump, sweet, and so refreshing. The bread was crispy and garlicky. The fettuccine was spectacular. By being such a simple dish, it had to be perfect. And it was perfect. It was creamy, flavorful, and was so perfectly portioned, you really almost wanted just a bit more. And the peposo: I would give almost anything to have another bite of peposo. The beef was tender and tasted like sweet elf kisses. Like, seriously delicious. Like, delicious on another level. Like TOO delicious. The next night, we ordered the bolognese, tagliolini alla spigola,pachino,olive e capperi, and the tiramisu. OH. MY. GOD. Okay, hands down, the best bolognese ever. The tomato sauce tasted like an Italian mom's love. Or in this case, Fabio's love. I think that's the chef's name. The tagliolini (pasta with sea bass and olives) was very good. Not my favorite of all the dishes, but very, very good. And of course, the tiramisu was crazy good. Our last night, I had to order the peposo again. And the bolognese. And for dessert, we got the millefogle, which is seriously one of the best things I've eaten in my life. If you like the millefeuille, you will love their play on the traditional French version. I hardly ever finish my food, but I cleaned all the plates. And I almost ordered a second helping of peposo. Oh, did I mention that I don't eat beef normally? Came here after reading all of the great reviews and was a bit underwhelmed. We expected amazing dishes but found everything to be just average. We ordered pasta with truffles, linguini bolognese, and a linguini dish covered in eggplant and buffalo mozzarella. Each pasta dish was good but nothing special especially for the price. They charged the always ridiculous sitting fee which was expected but the service was great. My eggplant dish was a bit small compared to everyone else's main course but it was the best dish out of all three. The pasta with truffles was a bit tasteless and disappointing. I ordered a mojito for 8 euros and it was small and made with lemons rather than limes which ruined the typical mojito flavor. I think this place is just ok. I wouldn't go back because of the high prices for just mediocre food. read more

Great service and that's about it. There are so many other great places in Rome that are not tourist traps and truly care about quality. This is simply a waste of time. I was worried by all the trip advisor stickers on the door, a lot of tourists and the Facebook table tent on the table; not sure why I didn't trust my gut but we ordered anyways. Partly because it was 10:30 pm and in a pinch and needed to eat. We also went here based on Yelp reviews which are usually pretty accurate. Not in this case. We tried an appetizer and it was not good. For the meals, lasagna tasted bland, old and like processed food you'd find anywhere. I noticed at the table next to me someone didn't eat theirs either (After I ordered mine). We also ordered the truffle pasta which was definitely not fresh. Didn't finish our meals and paid the check even skipping after dinner drinks. Went to Harry's Bar instead for that. When we received our check the server handed us a comment card. No comment on that but we did accurately fill it out to let them know the service was good and food was poor. I was really excited to try out this place, as I've read excellent reviews on the quality of food here. We were seated an hour and fifteen minutes ago and our food still has not come (forty five minutes later we are still sitting at the dinner table with just water). I hope that the food lives up to its hype, but it's difficult to imagine that it will compensate for the most terrible service we've ever received. It took 30 minutes for the waiters to attend to us and for us to place our order. Every party in here, including the several that have come much after us, has been served their main course. Found this place because of yelp so we decided to take a long walk over. We were attracted by the semi-outdoor seating arrangement and masses coming out of the restaurant, but that's it. Service was just mediocre. Took almost 15 mins till our waitress came to us after being seated to get our drink orders. Took another 10 mins till we ordered, and another 30 mins to get our order. We went when the masses filed out so we figured it wouldn't take long - yeah that was not the case. It was just my husband and I too! We both got pasta and the taste on a scale of 1-5, we gave our meals a 3. Nothing too outstanding but not too bland. Prices for the food though should be cheaper considering the taste was not all that. The restaurant attracts tourists for its looks and not presentation of food or taste. The homemade fettucini was delicious as was the bolognese sauce. Fresh pasta Amatriciana was very good. Good portions and they are very generous with the amount of sauce. So, I was on a mission to have good food, excellent service and an authentic feel and I found it here. The food was delicious. I had a homemade pasta dish with a homemade apple strudel for dessert and my partner had beef stew cooked in red wine served with potatoes. Pizza was most often ok but pasta l dente seems to be a problem in Rome. But there was one big exception: That's amore. If you're going to eat just one meal in Rome, you have to eat here! This is the best restaurant in all of Rome. Most of the restaurants in Rome are just about serving food to passing tourists. That's Amore is an experience! From the amazingly personal service, the wonderful ambiance, and the absolutely delicious food you'll be in love by the time you leave. Located very close to Trevi Fountain, it's a hidden gem. There is usually a wait so call ahead for reservations to minimize your wait. The owners checked in on us several times and made this a wonderful experience. We're sad we only discovered it through yelp on our last day in Rome, otherwise we would have definitely come again. You know those restaurants which make you feel like family when you eat there? This is one of those. It would easily thrive in a food Mecca like San Francisco which tells you just how good this place is! I know I'll miss this dining experience when I get back home. read more

This place was hidden at the end of the street...I remember it being near Via Pannateria where Il Gelato di San Crispino was. The owner was standing outside and got my dad's attention. They do that everywhere in Italy, but my dad said "What the heck! Let's give it a try!". It had a Trip Advisor sticker on the door so I thought that it would be good. It wasn't good. It was great! It was small inside, but packed. We had to wait to get a table. Our table ended up being by the doors that would open out into the street. It was a neat feeling to be able to see all the hustle and bustle going on outside while eating. The bread...perfect. The balsamic vinegar was absolutely divine! I am a huge Balsamic Glaze/Vinegar fan and this was one was knocked out of the ballpark! Olive oil was just as great too. We learned that the owner has his own cooking school where he takes his students (which you could be for a price;) )to his residence a little out of Rome. It actually used to be a castle! It sounded like a great adventure, but we didn't have the time for it. I ate Pasta al Pesto. Boy was it yummy! I couldn't eat it all. Between the wine and bread...I was stuffed. Plus, it was only lunchtime, but lunch in Italy is a big deal. Everyone stops to take a break (even shop owners) and literally relax, have some wine, and eat a good hearty meal. It's the equivalent of a siesta in Spain. I am so glad we ate here. It was so quaint and picturesque inside. The walls had pictures framed everywhere. It wasn't trendy and it wasn't too traditional. You can usually tell by the music if it's a tourist trap, and I fell for it hook, line and sinker. When walking by I heard Frank Sinatra crooning, and I should have known better, but just gave in and went for it. That's Amore was pretty packed, but we got one of the last two tables. My sea bass pasta was pretty standard - but the capers were incredible! Really fresh, giant capers from Mars actually. But at 14 Euro, it was pretty pricey compared to the fantastic salmon pasta I had for 8 euros down the street at Gioia Mia Pisciapiano. read more

I have been due to write this review for a couple months. First, the service was fantastic, friendly and everyone was nice. We had a reservation and when we walked in we were received by the manager (or owner) Mario, who welcomed me by name. Nice touch. The setting was nice but the restaurant is small. The location is in the Centro Storico, which makes it much more attractive if you are a tourist in Rome. We were promptly seated at this super small table looking outside, which was fine since that is what you wanna do: people watch in Rome. But it was very tight and almost uncomfortable when another table was seated right next to us. You almost could not move!. Now, to the food, it was good but i was not impressed by anything. It had good flavor, nicely presented and well cooked but lacked the wow factor. Went to some other places in Italy and this just couldn't compare. However, i must say it was a good meal. We stopped in for a drink and an appetizer after a LOT of walking and shopping - we were beat. They asked if we had reservations (we didn't) but we were seated immediately anyway. The interior was nicer than I expected, with old pictures on the walls. This place apparently offers cooking classes as well, which is really cool. We ordered a prosecco, a red wine and a prosciutto and mozzarella plate with housemade rosemary focaccia bread. After a week and half in Italy, we had had these things more times than I'm willing to admit, but here, they were the BEST. With so many great restaurants in Rome, That's Amore blends into one of the average places in the city. It's not quite a tourist trap, but also not the most amazing place in town. My girlfriend and I ordered the seafood pasta and a salmon pasta. These seemed to be the popular choice here. The seafood pasta was good, but after having tried so many different versions throughout italy, this was not memorable. The salmon pasta was not what I had anticipated. While the plate was filled with salmon, it was also replete with mint leaves. The mint was so over-powering that the dish tasted like peppermint pasta rather than salmon pasta. Perhaps this is just an unfamiliar taste, but this really did not sit well with me. The pricing for the place is comparable with other pasta joints. But, with so much hype surrounding this on tripadvisor, I expected more. read more
