So we took advantage of the sunny weather and found this super cute cafe to get our cafe-culture fix. Roundabout Cafe has their own parking but when we pulled in, most of the parking was taken and so we parked in the stalls available a few steps from the cafe. The cafe has super cute French style seating up front and bar seating on the side. Inside, there are two bistro tables that seats 4 and window counter seating. The restaurant pleasantly asks if you're a single patron, to sit along the window during busy hours. Cafe has monthly specials that we took advantage of, a large selection of refreshing and caffeinated drinks, art for sale and ice cream that was suggested to order today, but will reserve for next time, and there will be a next time. Staff was super helpful and friendly making this a pleasant experience. We will be making this a regular stop in future family visits.

Didn't get a smile or an acknowledgment of us much at all. My attempts at chitchat were rebuffed with literally zero response. This is a small local business within. 5 min from my house in a generally more warehouse type district with little coffee shops but I won't be returning here! I ordered a mango smoothie and a Red Bull cream spritzer with mango and strawberry. The mango smoothie tastes "funny" I can't put my finger on it but something is off with it. I heard her mention she was using soft serve to make it. I'm assuming she's talking about frozen yogurt, but something just doesn't taste as good as I normally get anywhere else. I also noticed they use really shitty store brands whipped cream and i guess a lot of coffee places I do that but I think a lot more of them are making their own whip cream at this point in coffee etiquette evolution! Ok so the WORST part was the Red Bull cream spritzer, which is normally my go to FAVE drink! At this point it had been prob 10 min since we arrived and the main barista did mention they were training today, but she seemed almost as unsure as the girl who she was training. They kept looking up the drinks in the binder instructing them. I've been a barista before so it's not like I don't have empathy. When you make a Red Bull spritzer that has cream in it, the order you add the ingredients is important or you end up with a curdled drink. Immediately after she handed me my drink I could tell. She had added the cream on top of my drink and it was already curdling when I stirred it it bloomed. I pointed this out to them and she said they would "try " to fix it. I mentioned I knew there was a certain order to do to avoid this but I couldn't recollect it. I was with my little boy so I joined him in the upstairs loft seating for another 6 min they re made my drink I heard the main one say "ok add the cream first." If you pour the half and half directly on top of the ice cubes, it will coat them and freeze, giving the drink an unappealing texture. If you add flavor to the RedBull before you add cream, it will also not combine properly. Needless to say the second drink which wasn't even all the way full to the top, also curdled. I wish I could take my tip back but maybe I can save you a headache and $15.

Both the female and male staff members were friendly, attentive, and very efficient throughout our visit. Since I'm not a fan of alcohol, I chose a mocktail called "XXX," while others enjoyed the Wildside Punch Cocktail and other drinks. For food, we ordered the Queen Beans, The Marley, and Sweet Leaf Salad. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. We finished with the tiramisu, which was absolutely delicious and the perfect ending to our meal. The atmosphere, service, and food all came together for a wonderful experience. Now let's talk about my drink - Cookie Butter Hojicha Latte (hot)! I'm a huge fan of hojicha, but I don't get it often as it's not as common as matcha. When I ordered, I was actually thinking about a cold drink, but I'm so glad I didn't mention cold or hot, because the hot version is the best hot drink I've had this year - creamy, subtly sweet, the nuttienss of cookie butter just works perfectly with the hojicha. The store also carries baked goods from 2 local bakeries (one is Lobo Bakery) in Tacoma, and all the baked goods are reasonably priced. On our first occasion the latte was iced and on the second it was hot. Both versions of this drink were great! Hojicha is a roasted Japanese Green Tea just in case specifics are needed here. On the first time chef Jan Parker was also hear serving food from a small menu which made this coffee shop extremely busy! But on the second time when no additional activities or events were happening it was really chill and I was the only customer. Steve and I got baked goods too, a real Achilles Heel for us and they are very good. I believe if memory serves they come from El Lobo Bakery if we recall the signage correctly. So between the drinks and the baked goods Civic Roasters is a great addition to the Tacoma coffee shop scene.
