First, I have to say, I am not one to leave reviews..... however, when this place went above & beyond to make a large group (fairly last minute) work... they deserve some kudos. We came in Sunday night with a group of 35+, they had a room ready for us & to make things much easier & quicker they came up with a buffet idea. The food came out about 20 minutes later & was very good. A shout out to the bartender (Jared) who took care of this mob! We had a nice time & enjoyed the view of the pond. Our daughter got sick (unrelated to the food) and despite my husband insisting on cleaning up, she was sweet enough to insist she understood and not to worry. This place was perfect after a long day of travel! It was very busy, long line waiting as we left after dinner. Beautiful venue- there was a wedding happening outside. Service was great. Food was amazing and generous portions. I had a bowl of clam chowder with locally made oyster crackers. Creamy and delicious. Then I had warm spinach salad. It was so good. You can add shrimp or chicken, I didn't. They bring corn fritters, dinner rolls and pecan rolls before your meal. I thought the fritters would taste more "corny", but good nonetheless. The pecan roll I saved as my dessert. So much food !! Great location for families or groups. There are several large rooms and a pub downstairs. Wonderful way to spend the night out. Sat outside and listened to the brook babble while eating some pretty good food. A classic menu with a few newer twists. Waitstaff were very attentive give there were only two people serving about 15 tables. Overall a pleasant surprise. read more

Dropped in for an early dinner. Were greeted right away, seated promptly, and our waitress, Olivia, was right over. We just had beers and burgers. Large portions, the fries were hot and crispy, the burgers were huge. The complementary bread basket is the best ever. The pricing is equivalent to any of the national pub chains - Applebee's, the 99, etc. but this place has atmosphere. Gorgeous setting. And no blaring tvs in the background. The ambience is wonderful, but the food was, at best, uninspired. The warm pecan rolls were grossly undercooked and doughy...inedible. The "fruits of the sea" entree looked and tasted like it was mass produced, frozen then quickly heated. The bottom of the fish was stuck to the plate, the sauce had a weird consistency. Had an amazing dinner with girlfriend after a long day of skiing. Both the surrounding environment and the interior design are beautiful and gorgeous. We ordered the roast duck and the old mill sizzler. The duck itself was a little bit too dry for me but the orange sauce made it an amazing entree. Nice scenery on a creek. Service was OK but it took an hour to get our food. Salads came out of the fridge... We had different courses but everything from the onion soup, calamari to steaks and burgers was tasteless, a real disappointment. Did not dine here, but purchased their corn fritters and pecan rolls. Corn fritters are very fresh, crispy outside, soft inside. Pecan rolls are a bit too sweet for my taste. If you purchase, ask if they have any warm ones, otherwise the cold ones are very hard. The ducks are the main attraction, and kids love them. read more

This is a very nice place to have a sit-down meal and family friendly. The view is great. Their food comes in generous portions. I ordered Irish nachos and a chicken salad but I didn't know they had lots of appetizers like pecan rolls and corn fritters. Those appetizers alone filled me up. The salad was average but the Irish nachos were great. Instead of sliced potatoes, they put crumbled bacon, cheddar cheese and other toppings on what appeared to be waffle fries. Corn fritters were pretty great as well. What I ordered were not the most healthy food but good comfort American food if you are in mood to catch up with an old friend. Charming restaurant, great atmosphere, OK food. The restaurant is a traditional staple in the area. It has a beautiful pond and wood exterior that is quite wonderful. Inside the wide wood floors and walls continue to add to the atmosphere. The menu is a typical New England traditional with items like New England Clam Chowder, prime rib, chicken pie, etc.. in addition to standard pub fare such as wings, burgers, etc. Service was a little slow, but we arrived towards the end of the dinner rush and it was clear our waitress had a long night in a busy restaurant. She was very pleasant and got to us as soon as she could. The bread basket features pecan rolls served with syrup and butter, corn bread fritters and standard bread rolls. The pecan rolls are really the star here. We had the pork chops and the chicken pie and also the clam chowder. The clam chowder was very good, thick and creamy. The chicken pie was good, but I wish the sauce had been a bit thicker. The pork chops were good, moist and not overcooked. Overall, the service was good, the food was just ok. We had dinner there. Beautiful setting. Waterfalls, ducks, rustic appearing. We were seated with some delay. The hot rolls and pecan rolls were heavenly. Kids pizza and chicken fingers were good. So I was wondering why they only has 3.5 stars. Then my sons steak came and it was over cooked and no flavor. My wife's shrimp scampi was ok. I ordered their steak sizzler and it came with sizzle but no flavor, dry, and it keep cooking in the hot skillet it came on and it was way over cooked by midway. Over food took too long. Our drinks were good. Although our server was pleasant, she had a big group to deal with, so she was difficult to find. Due to this we didn't order a second set of drinks or dessert. In conclusion our overall experience was a three. We won't go there again. read more

Little has changed about the Old Mill over the years and that's good and bad. A beautiful and serene atmosphere that still lacks good food. They get away with the bare minimum. The Old Mill is located in a beautiful part of central Massachusetts, next to a large pond and several small waterfalls. It's a peaceful and relaxing setting, that sprawls like a maze of bridges, staircases, and hidden rooms. There are many different settings to enjoy your food and drink - with a cozy hidden bar, and several dining rooms with views of the pond or the waterfalls. We stumbled upon the Old Mill by accident, and enjoyed the experience so much that we decided to have our wedding rehearsal dinner there. Throughout the process, the staff were exceptionally attentive to our needs and requests. In the end, the dinner was flawless - our guests all commented on the beauty of the venue and the quality of the food. While you're waiting to be seated you can feed the ducks and other water fowl on the picturesque pond with the provided bread. I really want to like this place. Just the ambiance alone is fantastic. Unfortunately my wife and I have had such bad experiences, that we've stopped going altogether. The service is incredibly slow. Don't plan to eat here unless you have several hours at a minimum. Stick to the specialty menu items. Other items are sub-par for the price. The prime rib is very good as is the baked haddock casserole. The salads appear to come out of a bag and twice my salad has been wilted. Unfortunately I think this restaurant remains popular due to it's long existence and the tradition of its faithful patrons. If was opening today and establishing itself ... Went there on a Saturday afternoon. Should have read more than just the first few good reviews. Yes, the fritters and pecan rolls are good, but intended there. My Wife got the Haddock casserole and I got the steak tips, both with salads. The salads looked and tasted like they were made 1 or 2 days before. The steak tips were mediocre and the Haddock was awful. The menu said it was topped with crab meat. My wife could tell instantly that it was imitation crab meat and that was confirmed by the waitress. Also both of us agreed that there was a zero percent chance that there was actually haddock in the dish. I'm sure this place was good in its prime, but they seem to be cutting a lot of corners now. read more

I think this place is going through an identity crisis. the food was ok all around. The kids burger was the biggest burger I'd ever seen and had a unique shape which leads me to believe it was frozen and not home-made. the kids steak was ok, just a small sirloin. I had some steak with shrimp on it which was just fine, I'm not sure what everyone else had but nobody was overly excited. The room was very very hot and no air was flowing through the vents though the server insisted the air was on. The beer was warm, ice-water was strangely lacking in ice, the mixed drinks I'm told were too strong, though the corn fritters were good which is basically all I hear about. I guess they are great at serving corn fritters and not that great at finishing the rest of the meal. Ok, Ok. we get it. The Old Mill is, well, old. The menu is not that exciting any more and the food is not knock-your-socks-off amazing, but if everyone stopped dining at classic old school restaurants like this just because they stick to what they know, then we wouldn't have nationally loved, iconic spots like the Union Oyster House in Boston, or P.J. Clarkes in New York. Those places are still doing exactly the same thing they have been doing for a hundred, if not multiple hundreds of years, and that is why people love them. For me, I could take or leave the current menu at the Old Mill, I'm never dissatisfied with my meal when I go there, but I don't really go there for the food alone. What I go there for is the timelessness of the place, the classic pastiche of a centuries old water driven mill building, and the old standard dining traditions of a family owned restaurant whose roots and principles would likely be appreciated in the 1940s, or 1960's, rather than the 21st century. Also, beyond the duck pond, and the foot bridges, and the rustic water wheel, is what I hold in my estimation as one of the coziest taverns in all of New England, the Cracker Barrel Pub, which is located on the ground floor is not to be missed, and an experience unto itself. The beer list at the Cracker Barrel could use some reviving, but otherwise you couldn't pick a better place to sit and sip manhattans while looking out the window at some really lovely scenery, or eating some better than average pub fare while watching the Sox play a home game on the TV. At the end of the day, you may judge the menu and the antiquated sensibilities behind this old favorite of mine all you want, but few and far between these days are the remaining time-honored restaurants that once made the dining traditions of America worth talking about. Take a moment to be happy that at least you still have the opportunity to 'rough it' with some classic american fare in a well worn, but warm and cozy place such as the Old Mill. Haute, nouveau, and fusion cuisine are all too common these days. Don't be so quick to rush a great old american restaurant out to pasture just because it knows and stands behind what has, and still works for them. read more

We ordered the tomato/broccoli Alfredo with chicken and the shrimp/scallop Alfredo. Both were rich and creamy delights complimented by parmesan cheese on the side. The buffalo wings were neither too hot nor too mild - just right. Just when when we thought the food was good, we were surprised to find they had given us dessert as well - even though we hadn't ordered it. A mistake? Maybe. But the little sweet rolls and fried dough with maple syrup and sweet butter were a welcome surprise. Would definitely recommend and try again. Please be sure to read my prior review below, however after my visit this past week I am updating my beloved mill restaurant with five bright and shiny stars. As you will read, I am a fan of this historic building and its atmosphere, but found the food was not quite prepared on point during my last visit. I had an absolutely delicious meal this week (my family agreed theirs was top notch as well) and definitely felt the need for a review update. I ordered the baked haddock (same dish as last time) and it was cooked perfectly. One of the best baked haddock dinners I have had in a long time. Keep in mind, the mill offers home style, classic, comfort foods in a peaceful, historic setting. It is a perfect destination for a Sunday drive out to the country. (Prior review is below). ************************* If my review were based on atmosphere alone I would grant the Old Mill five shiny stars. If you are a fan of old architecture you will love this unique 1761 structure. My parents used to save this destination for special occasions such as anniversary dinners and other family get-togethers. As a child I looked forward to feeding the ducks that inhabit the pond adjacent to the restaurant and loved running beneath the covered bridge before dinner. The ducks are still here and the landscape and original building are as beautiful as ever. A visit to the Old Mill is a perfect Sunday drive especially during the fall season as the leaves begin to change. As near and dear as this restaurant is to me, I cannot give more than four stars based on their decent, yet somewhat average food. As you may have heard in prior reviews, an assortment of pecan rolls, dinner rolls, and their signature corn fritters are served before dinner - winning! Maple syrup and butter are also offered for the fritters. If you manage to save room for dinner after the delicious carb overload, the Mill's menu offers a varied selection of classic, home-style dishes including steak, seafood, and pasta. We started our meal with clam chowders (good) and continued with the seafood theme. I chose baked haddock and a side of mashed potatoes. My meal was good and the haddock cooked well minus the slightly dry ends and my dad agreed as he ordered the same. My mom's meal was slightly disappointing as she mentioned the shrimp were overcooked and dry, yet thought the seafood stuffing on top of the shrimp was tasty. We had a wonderful server named Diana who was very pleasant, friendly, and attentive. Our table had a great view of the pond and I enjoyed watching the ducks swim about (yes I am a big dork) as we enjoyed lunch. The interior maintains its historic feel with dark wood trims, wagon wheel light fixtures, lanterns, and a large stone fireplace. After dinner be sure to browse the gift shop which is full of Old Mill souvenirs and other fun stuff. Today was a wonderful day and so glad The Old Mill remains unchanged and allows us to carry on another special family tradition. read more
