This place was fantastic. I had shrimp and scallop alfredo and it was delicious. Perfect combination of old country charm (not old country as in Italy, like from the old country. This explanation has gone on far to long) and semi formal dining. Plus you can feed sucks and geese day old pecan buns. Make sure you get some fresh ones for yourself. Three friends and I have been here a few times. We recently had lunch and it was disappointing. To start, service was very slow. Getting our waitress's attention was difficult. They didn't appear to be that busy but seemed to be having trouble keeping up. Drinks took awhile. The corn fritters and pecan rolls were very good as always. Chicken wrap was ok. Pot roast consisted of baked potato and roast/gravy. That's it. No carrots . Nothing. Very odd. Chicken wrap was just ok. Fish and chips, Burger was good. Friend wanted another drink took forever. Wanted more water but couldn't find our waitress. Asked another waitress walking by for some water. We were told to ask our waitress for some. Seriously? Staff was very curt bordering on rude. Not sure what has happened at this once nice restaurant but won't be returning anytime soon. It's a shame. We used to enjoy coming here. Hopefully, management takes notice of these issues. read more

The location is fantastic. Plenty of parking (there's a lot next to it and across the street) and it's just such a beautiful property. There's a waterfall and tons of ducks and geese. They even have free bread to feed them with. It's definitely a historic location with real wood and just a nice old vibe. The interior has several rooms and a gift shop at the lower level (the gift shop is very cramped). We went for Sunday brunch buffet. The wait time was about ten minutes. The buffet had everything: breakfast food, desserts, fruit, juices, dinner foods. We partook of a lot - favorite being the homemade crepes and the roast beef. Yum. Your drinks are included with the brunch prices ($19.99) and any alcoholic drinks are extra. I ended up trying the Snowball and it was fantastic. As I said, very crowded. Popular place. We did feel a little rushed as our waitress was taking away our plates before we were done but we still went back for desserts. Noise levels were pretty high too due to all of the families. I have been to the old mill twice now, and have been very disgusted both times. The latest time as soon as we sat down my wife noticed that her glass of water still had lip stick on it from a previous guest, then as we went to eat at the buffet we had to dig though a mound of plates to try and find one that did not still have food on it. Having worked here and eaten here many times- management needs to work on not making the servers make their own drinks! Weekends should have dedicated bartenders ! I used to come here all the time as a kid and recently came back for the first time in about 15 years. I was happy to find nothing has really changed at this wonderful place. Food was delicious as always, the place was packed and there was plenty of day old bread to feed the ducks outside. The pecan rolls and corn fritters you get at the beginning of the meal are the best part! Our waitress and the hostess were very sweet and accommodating for our party of five (including two very grumpy and hard to please family members!). Our group ordered the cobb salad, chicken pot pie, two orders of fish and chips and a big prime rib. Everything was fantastic, everyone was very happy. The 1761 Old Mill is a picturesque Mill restaurant and I have fond memories of coming here with family over the years. We most recently went for brunch on a June Sunday and the place was packed. There are about three parking lots and so we were able to circle and find a space. They do a lot of special events here (weddings, showers, etc) and it's a great family place or place to bring groups. The scenery is very nice any time of year with covered bridges and a duck pond. The food is decent but we were unimpressed with the pastries at brunch which were overly sweet and probably mass produced. They could definitely do better and get back to honemade (pies, muffins etc would be better). Overall a fun stop for families. read more

We arrived with a group and had our own dining room. Unfortunately, the tables were squeezed into the rear of the room making it difficult to get into the our chairs. The seating was such that one chair backed into the chair behind that was at a different table. It was impossible to get out of your seat if you happened to be sitting near the windows. What puzzles me was that there was plenty of space in the other half of the room, that just went empty. When I asked the server if something could be done, she just shrugged her shoulders, as if saying, "ain't my job buddy!" The entree was superb, but the "sticky buns" were not baked through, and the apple crisp dessert contained sour apples that were crispy and again, not cooked through. read more

First off... make a reservation, very popular and very busy. We've been there many times but I'm on the Yelp now lol. The fritters and maple syrup are to die for as are the pecan rolls. Both come with just about every meal. Great portions, it's been a while since I've had to have a doggy bag for myself but I did today. My wife had Wild mushroom ravioli with grilled chicken and I had surf and turf. The steak was done perfectly, properly seasoned and the scallops portion was good and they were cooked perfect as well. My wife said hers was awesome as well. What I can't speak highly enough of is our server, Madison. I worked in restaurants for five years a million years ago and was a waiter 3. Critical behavior is checking on you when your water or drinks look low and most importantly within five minutes of serving you your meal. She took very good care of us and I hope the next time we are there we're lucky enough to get her as a server. read more

Boy would I want to like this place. The setting is lovely with the antique buildings, the mill pond and the stream. The concept is great with an old school feel. There are fritters and maple buns. The menu runs to traditional, including their own chicken pie. Unfortunately at lunch today none of this really worked. The fritters were cold, the maple buns stale, the chicken pie was cold in the center. The decor is also looking a little tired. So this could be a special place with charm and good food. It just does not quite get there. That said, it is close to the Wachusett Mountain ski area and the food is vastly better and a vastly better value than eating lunch at the mountain. This place is very interesting. On the one hand you have unbelievable pecan rolls that taste like nothing else on earth however, that's where the good ends. I have been there probably about 8 times over the past year and EVERY SINGLE TIME I walk in there 1. There is usually no host or hostess to greet you and 2. When someone does greet you and you ask for a table it's as if you have asked them to solve some resounding global issue. Many times the person has to go get a second person as two people are often needed to figure out seating arrangements. So what usually ends up happening is that you wait for 5-10 minutes while they are figuring things out, meanwhile you look around the restaurant and the place is not that busy! I'm. I'm not talking a Friday or Saturday night..I'm talking like a Tuesday or Wednesday evening at 7:00. Not exactly peak hours. As I said above, this happens ALL the time! So now that you've been seated, you wait for those delicious pecan rolls to arrive, except you have to wait about 20 minutes for a server to come, take your drink order and then return 10 minutes later. Then you order then after about a half an hour you can finally feast on those rolls. It's really become quite comical as you can predict all of this ahead of time. The food is pretty decent overall but that's not why you go there really. You go for the rustic views, the nice covered bridges, and the ducks that you can feed those tasty pecan rolls to. I keep saying I'll never go back there as I keep thinking that the overall service can't be that bad. However, each time seems to get worse if that's possible! read more

Best Roast Duck Dinner You Will Ever Have. Period. The Old Mill has been an annual stop for my family after apple picking since I was 5 years old. Located in beautiful Westminster, MA, the beautiful countryside does it's absolute best every fall to show you the very best foliage. Before I even get to the food, the restaurant itself is reason enough for a visit. You can see the mill and waterfall. You can feed the very friendly ducks in the pond. And you can visit the gift ship which has an assortment of crafts, candy, candles, etc. The restaurant itself is authentic looking and very charming. The servers are kind and helpful. The menu is also very authentic showing the best that traditional New England cooking has to offer. There aren't too many places like this. The prices are very reasonable and you will get tremendous value for your money. Now, the food really can speak for itself. Living in Boston and dining frequently at all of the nice restaurants available to those living in Back Bay, the South End, and Beacon Hill, I can tell you that the Old Mill is just as gourmet in its own particular way. Traditional New England cooking is a rarity these days and few restaurants do it well. The Old Mill offers a wide selection of entrees. But for me, there is always only one thing to order: the Country Roasted Duck Dinner. Accompanied by corn fritters with maple syrup, fresh rolls, and sticky buns, you get a huge half roast duck packed with apple pecan stuffing, slow roasted so the meat is confit, and covered with a mild but delicious gravy. You get two sides of your choosing with this. I can never finish it and it always ends up coming home with me for lunch the next day. My parents have ordered other dishes off the menu and they are similarly prepared with great attention to the authenticity, freshness, and flavor. About a 60 minute drive from Boston, the Old Mill is absolutely worth the effort. A comment on other reviews complaining about the "old decor" and "cobwebs". The restaurant is an Old Mill. They are not claiming to be anything else. The menu is not going to have sushi or steak tartare. This is traditional New England cuisine in an authentic setting. And it's delicious! read more

Very, very disappointed in this place. I had been begging my boyfriend to go here for a while. All my coworkers rave about it and say how great the food is and I was dying to try it. We walked in and stood at the hostess station for about 5min before someone came over. We could clearly see the hostess less then 5 feet away. We were never acknowledged let alone greeted. When she finally did come over she couldn't be bothered to make eye contact let alone say hello. She was looking at her chart and mumbled something under her breath when my boyfriend said "Is she talking to us?" She then shot us a dirty look and asked if we had a reservation. When we told her we didn't she looked down started writing and mumbled that it was going to be a 20 min wait. We should have left right there. When we were seated the waitress came over and she was polite but far from friendly. She took our drink order but it was at least 15 min before she came back with said drinks at which point we ordered our food. The buffalo chicken appetizer was horrible. The chicken was definitely frozen with just some sauce thrown on there. We hoped our meals wouldn't be the same. When the waitress came over to remove the plate I had asked her for another drink. Our meals came about 15 min later (without my drink which I asked about again) and they were terrible. I had the fish and chips which frankly tasted bad, as in the fish went bad. I took a few bites and was done. My boyfriend's steak was mediocre at best. When we finished our meals I finally received my 2nd ice tea. I really, really, really wanted to like this place. The location and atmosphere is beautiful. It's a shame the service and food was so bad. One good thing I will say is the free pecan rolls were excellent. When I was growing up, the Old Mill was a fine dining establishment, despite being known locally as a tourist trap. There were candles on the white-clothed tables, and the service was prompt and cordial. It was a cozy place for fine dining, back in the day. No more....sigh.... We arrived without reservations on a Saturday evening, and the place was packed (as always). Despite the crowd, we only waited approximately 15 minutes for a table in the Westminster Room (where my wedding reception was held 30 years ago, by the way). There was a birthday party being held for a teen girl with about 15 adults and children of various ages in attendance. The noise from this party was magnified to headache-inducing levels by the fact that the room is very open with a wall of windows on one side. The racket was unbearable, and we asked to be moved to a quieter room to be able to enjoy our dinners, which were not bargain-priced by any means. Avoid this room at all costs...it has the atmosphere of a McDonald's Play Place....conversation is impossible! The next room was smaller, and much more relaxed and quiet than the one across the lobby. Unfortunately, we were seated next to an extremely unkempt serving station that was cluttered, had napkins and plastic bags hanging out of drawers that should have been kept closed, and the old candle lamps that used to be on the tables perching precariously on a crooked shelf over the station. There were only paper place mats on the table when we were seated, and it took a while to get our silverware and napkins. As a matter of fact, it took a long time to get everything. Our starters arrived after a 25 minute wait and our salads after another 15 minutes. Turns out that our server from the first room kept us on, but was not assigned to the new room...so we were essentially forgotten. We then asked for water, and she asked us why we hadn't brought ours with us from the first room! (Ummm...because we were carrying our belongings and the drinks we had already ordered, maybe?). Yes, service was not great that Saturday night either. The food was very good. I ordered a flatiron steak with gorgonzola, peppers and onions, and it was cooked to perfection and delicious. My friend's baked scallops were also very good, as were the house and Caesar salads, pecan rolls and corn fritters. If only one didn't have to endure the mayhem and poor service, this would be an excellent restaurant to make a regular hangout or a nice place to bring visiting relatives. Parking is tough to come by as well, but this is also a wedding venue, so can be crazy-crowded. Good place to try once to say you've been there. read more

Since this place is listed in yelp twice, I wanted to make sure I covered both listings. Here it is again: I almost gave this place one star, but we loved our waitress - she was awesome. Bartender was great too. I wanted so badly to go to the kitchen and tell the "chef" what I thought of his behavior, but thought better of it. I ordered the steak special, a NY strip, medium rare. My husband is a vegetarian, so he got the penne pasta alfredo with broccoli. We loved the corn fritters and pecan rolls that came out. I ordered a martini to be served with my dinner, but it came out right away. I didn't mind, since it was perfect. Usually when I say "Very dry" they don't believe me. This was dry. It was a bit of a wait for our dinners, but we were in no rush, and we enjoyed the view, the snacks and the drinks. My steak arrived, and it was cooked medium well. It was my birthday dinner, and I don't eat steak very much. I had REALLY been looking forward to a good steak. I asked my husband if he thought it was overdone, and he agreed whole-heartedly. We told the waitress, and she took it back to the kitchen. The "chef" made her take it back to me and tell me that the lighting in the room was not good, and I couldn't see that he had actually cooked it perfectly! I was shocked. She stood there while I tried it and confirmed to her that it was actually overcooked. She said he would cook one rare for me, but that's how they do medium rare. I told her, "Sure, give it to me rare." BIG mistake. She immediately came back with a RAW steak. I was fed up at that point and made the decision to cook it at home the next day. Even doing that, it wasn't a very good steak, as far as the quality. My husband's meal was delicious, but I will never order a steak at the Old Mill again. Disappointing birthday dinner. read more

This used to be a mill turned into a restaurant and store. I was there for lunch and the luncheon specials were a great deal, all about $10. It comes with three types of bread (corn fritters, pecan roll, and regular rolls) and all were very good. The main course itself was also very good (the chicken veggie pie and the scrod casserole). Could not finish all my food. They have kept much of the rustic mill look in the interior and exterior and definitely utilized pond that the mill is located on. I would have loved to have had lunch by the pond since they had many ducks and geese there. Those animals were so incredibly cute. Love them. This is what made this restaurant so unique. Pretty great food and scenery, especially if you're seated along the window side. The clientele, or lack thereof, was a bit disappointing, especially for a dinner restaurant at dinner time on a Friday. It was also quite obvious that they didn't dust, clean, wipe the tables properly, etc. The room we were sitting in, while beautiful, was fairly dingy and had a slight attic-type smell to it. Wonderful dining experience all around. We came for lunch this past Tuesday, it was our first time here. Parking was plentiful, the ambiance was delightful and the food delicious. Our waitress was quick and attentive bringing us warm rolls and fritters with a side of maple syrup and whipped butter. We started with the Buffalo Chicken Cheese Dip which had chunks of bleu cheese and so good that at the end of our meal we ordered one to go for a treat later in the week at home. My husband and I both had the Surf and Turf which was steak and broiled scallops (you also have the option of baked stuffed shrimp) . Our steaks were ordered medium and cooked perfectly. The side of roasted potatoes were scrumptious, just the right amount of garlic and seasonings and they melted in your mouth. We both had the Caesar Salad (for a small up charge) which was fresh and just the right amount of dressing and parmesan cheese. We ended our meal with a couple cups of fresh coffee - too full for dessert! We felt their menu was extensive and had a lot to offer, even for the vegetarians. It is sad when upon reading some of these reviews there are those that have a different taste in decor color their entire dining experience. Life is too short. My husband and two teenagers (16 and 13) went here for dinner while staying at the nearby Great Wolf Lodge. We were there around 7PM and there was plenty of seating. The grounds are beautiful and there were many people on the deck feeding the ducks in the pond. Allison was our waitress and she was excellent. I had prime rib and it was cooked medium, just like I asked. My husband had baked stuffed shrimp and he said that was also very good. Kids had chicken fingers and mozzarella sticks. The pecan rolls and corn fritters that they give you for a starter are soooo good! The cost of the meal was cheaper than what it would have cost to eat a mediocre meal at the resort. I would recommend having a meal here and we would eat there again. If you are going up for leaf peeping season and want to eat here, I would make reservations.
